I've known this restaurant for many years, and it has never once disappointed me. What makes it special to me is that it's a true family business, one that has kept the culture and food preparation passed down through generations. That's one of the most important part of the menu, at least for me, and it's what makes this place feel like a piece of home. There's a touch of melancholic taste that carries all the way from Lebanon to these tables. I remember the father owner preparing the grape leaves one by one, with patience and love that image will never fade. The raw kibbeh, muhammara, and labneh are all incredible healthy, vegetable-based food, paired with good quality meat like lamb. The ambience is great, pleasant, Saturdays are more fun and loud with traditional music and hookah. Absolutely one of my favorite places in Pompano. read more

After a day in the sun we were craving some light food and stopped by Shishka for dinner. We ordered all appetizers to pick off of. They do have a full bar but we went with the Lebanese beer - Beirut and Almaza. The kids got mint lemonade and regular lemonade. We ordered fried kibbeh, hummus with meat, mujaddara, grape leaves, sfiha, fattoush salad, mouhamara and grilled haloumi. For dessert, we got knafe and malabieh. Everything was so delicious and fresh. It did take some time to have the drinks come - some appetizers came before the drinks did but overall good experience. We were looking for something different that is close by, has easy parking and no wait to eat. We discovered this lovely spot in the Pompano City Center tucked into a side street, under a staircase. I must have walked past it before but never noticed. Walking in the delicious aroma of Lebanese spices were intoxicating. The friendly wait staff seated us immediately. We were impressed with the ambience and soft music. The temp was perfect. We decided to try the Mousaka which is a cold dish made with eggplant, served with Pita Bread. Ummm Yummy. Then we ordered the beef and chicken Shawarma. It arrived with two different sauces, but were not needed since the natural flavors were wonderful. We took our time with this wonderful meal, enjoying a glass of wine with dinner, which was reasonably priced. And then, after a great dinner, feeling satisfied we vowed to return again soon. Came here with my ladies group. I was also celebrating my birthday! With that being said- I was very busy dancing with the excellent belly dancer! I really didn't get pictures of food! The owner was very accommodating & explained all the Lebanese dishes. Most of the people ordered from the lunch menu. I had lamb kabob in a Pita wrapped with hummus. It was delicious!!! Everyone was very happy with the quality of the food & we all enjoyed everything!!! The server - was very patient with us & got everything done right! All in all- this is a very cosy restaurant. What a great find! We went with a group of 9, therefore we tried multiple dishes. The hummus was the best I've ever had, and we tried many different entrees and salads, all of which were excellent. They were able to accommodate a vegan in our group. We went for a special birthday dinner for a 99 year old on a Saturday night which is the night the belly dancer performs , and the whole staff went above and beyond to make this birthday so special. This restaurant specializes in authentic Lebanese cuisine. We ordered the Baba Ghanouj, a delicious blend of baked eggplant, garlic, tahini, and lemon juice served with olive oil; the Fattoush Shawarma Salad, a refreshing fattoush salad topped with flavorful meat or chicken shawarma; and the Kibbeh Nayeh, a unique dish of ground select meat, cracked wheat, and special spices served raw. Still my favorite Mediterranean Lebanese food. Food is consistent and always good. Service is excellent. Weekends after 8 you can be entertained with belly dancing. Shawarma Hummus - amazing... fresh homemade hummus topped with thin sliced grilled gyro... so good Sajouk is still my favorite appetizer- grilled Lebanese sausage in tomato Grilled Shrimp entree came with 6 big shrimp grilled in Mediterranean spices with a side. We left a festival that had a ton of food booths because we knew we were near Shishka. We parked and wandered through an open-air mall of stores and restaurants. There were some people around, but one restaurant had more guests than any other - Shishka! We're vegan and checked out their menu online - they have a lot of options for everyone! Our server, Henry, was excited to present the dishes to us and congratulated us on our order. We ordered two pots of Turkish coffee and drained them both. We ordered a dish of rice, lentils and sauteed onions (Mujadara); a beautiful salad with fried pita pieces (Fattouch); pastries filled with spinach, nuts and spices (Fatayer); and a Veggie Combo platter of everything from falafel to stuffed grape leaves (Warak Inab). We sat outside and watched patrons smoking a fruit-scented hookah as we dug into the food. I loved the Mujadara and Fattouch salad - combined actually. The falafel was very crisp and delicious with the tahini sauce. The bread was thin (wasn't a calorie bomb) and the olives were tasty. And I just loved the Turkish coffee! Will we return? Yes! My husband found he liked the Tabbouleh salad with Mujadara. We have friends who eat a variety of food, and this menu has something for everyone - even our friends who might bring their kids to our next meal. Seems a bit off because considering this place has 4 star review we decided to give it a try since the other place we wanted to try was closed. We were seated immediately and service was good but slow. The food came out very slow and there were only 3 tables dining at the time. We ordered falafel, hummus, grilled combo and grilled chicken. I felt over all the food was very bland and could use more seasoning, especially the meat dishes. We decide to eat Lebanese food today after church. My nephew suggested this place and it's located at the mall toward the back of the mall. There is outdoor seating and indoor. We decided to sit inside. The waiter was very attentive and explained the menu to me as this was a first for the Lebanese food for me. My brother and sister-in-law both had the grilled salmon with broccoli and cauliflower, my nephew and his wife had the lamb and chicken. I liked the lentil soup and my dish was the vegan one with the hummus and salad. All the food was very filling I was unable to finish my meal. There menu prices are high in my opinion my meal was 20.00 just for lunch and with tax and tip 25.00. About the owners. The Chef and Staff Shishka Lebanese Grill was established by two brothers Walid and chef Gus Zabib in 2011. The brothers are originally from the city of Beirut in Lebanon, where they grew up among a big restaurateur family. When they came to the United States, they found that there were only a few Middle Eastern restaurants around, but hardly any of them were really that good. Zabib's family decided to open a restaurant where you could get a good home-cooked Lebanese meal the way Mom used to make. The food is amazing!! There are vegetarian and vegan options (my friend is a vegan and was able to order a salad and falafel). All the food items are made in house and keeps with the Lebanese traditions. Shiskha is located in Pompano at Copans and US1. It is located in the little square area facing US1. I had the mixed grill platter, 3 skewers (Chix, lamb and beef) with a side of hummus). My only food critique here would be to offer different bread/pita. It was so bland and not warm. I have been to other locations with similar cuisine and this is one area that I look forward to trying is the bread and dips. Other than that this place is top notch for food!!! The wifey and me were in the mood of some good Midle Eastern food this evening and after driving around for a while we pulled out our old trust YELP app and came across this little authentic Lebanese joint in a Mall in Pompano! The decor and ambiance is perfect for a nice quiet dinner which we were in the mood for. The menu is extensive and it all looked appetizing, and looking around we noticed a lot of the clientele was ME which speaks well of the food here. We went with the combination grilled and mixed platters and it all was very tasty...... well that quiet dinner I mentioned a little earlier was temporarily broken with the arrival of this amazing belly dancer who had moves better than Jagger! Shishka is the only truly authentic Lebanese spot in town and it is absolutely the best! Coming here reminds me of my Teta's cooking! The staff is friendly, the service is prompt, and the food is outstanding! When you sit down at your table your server will bring you fresh zaatar, olives, and warm Arabic bread. For appetizers we always order Kibbeh Nayeh (for all you meat lovers, this is a Lebanese steak tartare--make sure to eat it with chopped onion, mint, and olive oil). It is the best I've had outside of Lebanon! We also order the Grilled Halloumi, which is a white, salty cheese. Try it with fresh cucumber and tomato, which it is served with. Their hummus and baba ganouj (smoked eggplant dip) is also to die for! For my entree I always go for the Mixed Grill. If you like meat and chicken, you can't go wrong with this. It comes with a sample of Shish Tawouk (grilled chicken kebab), Shish Kebab (lamb), and Kaftah (minced lamb). It comes with the most delicious rice and vegetables. Be sure to eat your chicken and meat with the toum that it comes with (garlic paste). The prices are decent, and it is conveniently located in a shopping plaza. This was our go to middle eastern restaurant for a local Pompano place until La Vie Lebanese opened up closer. We hadn't been here in some time, and honestly I'd forgotten how good they are. The restaurant is tucked into the Pompano Square Mall. If you park in the front (the federal highway:US1 side), you enter by the eyeglass place and go down a bit towards the back. You will see the outside tables (and maybe some hookahs) on the left. The restaurant is small but cozy. As we remembered portions were large, we decided to share. We were going to order a couple things and then a couple more but we stopped at two and a dessert. They start by bringing you warm thin pita and a small bowl of spices -- zaatar with sesame seeds. You add the olive oil (already on your table) to taste. I like to add some salt also. You can dip the pita in this while looking over the menu. We are a fan of chai tea. The tea here is aromatic and perfect for the cool day we came. A small pot would have been enough but we opted for a medium size. I wound up taking a large to go cup home and as it gets stronger near the bottom of the pot, I was able to add hot water at home to refresh it. So good. We started with their hummus with shawarma. This is a bowl of hummus (chickpea dip) topped with your choice of chicken or beef. We chose the "meat" which means beef. The hummus is creamy and smooth and the added meat makes it more of a meal than an appetizer. We always also request some sumac -- the red spice that tastes slightly salty and lemony to sprinkle over all our food. My husband loves their chicken livers so this was his app choice. They came out tender, lemony, and moist topped with parsley. Much better than I remembered them. We were full after just those two apps, but had saved room for dessert. We chose their kunefe. There are different versions depending on which country in the Middle East it's from. We are used to the one closer to having a "shredded wheat" topping. This one had a creamier wheatena-like topping over the cheesy middle. It was also served with a separate circle of puffy dough and a small pitcher of sweet syrup. It was very good and a new experience for both of us. From previous visits, I can say that they have good salads, soups, entrees, etc. I've taken one of my vegetarian friends here, happily too. Our server, Mark (?), was very friendly and pleasant. I helped a couple at the next table who were trying to decide what to order by answering their questions. Mark wondered if I was looking for a job. We both had a good laugh. And yes, we won't wait so long to come back next time. read more
