I'll admit it--I came in with a little skepticism. My previous experiences hadn't been the best, so when a friend chose this restaurant for her birthday happy hour, she was pleasantly surprised that I still wanted to come. My attitude was simple: it's about celebrating my friend. I'm so glad I did because this visit completely changed my mind. The restaurant's new location (where Mellow Mushroom used to be) is beautiful, spacious, and has a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for gathering with friends. Since we were sharing, we sampled a little of everything, and it was all delicious. Favorites included the falafel, Lebanese moussaka, crispy Brussels sprouts with Aleppo date glaze, baba ghanouj, classic hummus, Rocca beet salad, and the fresh, flavorful fattoush salad. Every dish was colorful, well-seasoned, and perfect for sharing around the table. The drinks kept flowing, and everyone was having a great time. To celebrate the birthday, we finished with an orange olive oil cake and a rich dark chocolate cake with sauce--both were wonderful endings to a fantastic meal. A special shout-out to our server, Ariana, who was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind to everyone at the table. She helped make the evening even more enjoyable. This visit completely changed my opinion of the restaurant. Great food, a beautiful new space, excellent service, and a fun atmosphere made for a memorable evening. What a beautiful transition! Another great meal at Amar Mediterranean. We go the classic hummus, baba ghanouj, moudardara, and arnabeet mekleh. It was all fantastic and the baba ghanouj was one of the best I've had. The pitas were amazing, they came to our table piping hot and billowing with hot steamy air. We also tried the tabouleh. For mains, the octopus on lentils was very good. The lamb chops were great with mint pesto and very puffy rice, tho they came out a bit over done (I ordered them medium and they were closer to medium well). Not only is this restaurant beautiful inside and out, the food is amazing. The outside decor is compelling- inviting you to go inside. We sat at a table that gave us plenty of time for privacy and conversation. Sharing with a friend, we were able to share many items so we could try many different things. Some of my favorite things: Kebbet Laa'tin (Pumpkin kebbe, chickpeas, pomegranate, Swiss chard, onion, bulgur): love all the mixture of textures in this Arnabeet Mekleh (Cauliflower, tahini, almond, golden raisins): the smoky, caramelized cauliflower had such a rich flavor- and the raisins offset this so nicely Kanafeh (Kataifi dough melted cheese tart, orange blossom, pistachio): this was not only a showstopper- watching the liquid being poured on the entire tart tableside- the crunch on the outside, with the soft inside, was delicious! This was my second time visiting Amar, and it did not disappoint. I brought friends to enjoy their Habibi Hour, which runs from 4-6 p.m. and offers 50% off select mezze, cocktails, and wine. It's such a great deal, and the menu has plenty of options--every one of them flavorful and delicious. We arrived a little after 5:00 and ordered at the bar. The cosmos and espresso martinis were fantastic, and the dehydrated fruit garnish is a really nice touch. I asked for a table so we could sit comfortably while enjoying our food, and we were seated quickly. Our server, Dimitri, was friendly, attentive, and checked on us consistently. We never waited long for the next round of appetizers, and everything came out hot and well-seasoned. We shared the fried kibbeh, classic hummus, falafel, rakakat, chankleesh, and Rocca Beet salad. They've done a great job transforming the space--I barely recognized it from when it used to be Mellow Mushroom. The decor is elevated, elegant, and creates a lovely dining atmosphere. Service: 3/5 We ordered the Amar Mix Grill, which is listed at $100 and meant to be shared between two people. While the overall flavor was good, the portion didn't feel suitable for two. The lamb chops in particular were disappointing--very little actual meat and mostly fat and gristle. For the price point, we expected better quality and a more satisfying dish. The service is great they are attentive friendly and well informed on the testy and the menu which I loved cause I could ask them all about the menu and get and actual honest answer. It used to be great and now even better particularly at happy hour. The suspicion is they reduce the portions on half price menu but we had plenty to eat and took home some for tomorrow. I came here for the first time on Valentine's Day and the ambiance, the food and the service were amazing. It was crowded and even though we had a reservation, we did have to wait for a table at the bar where I tried the beiroot cocktail. It was so refreshing and really good. The bartender made it with culver tequila because I'm not a fan on mezcal. We were seated outside and I liked how it was covered and decorated, so it still felt like the inside. We had the prefix menu, so to start we had the selection of cold and warm mezze: hummus, pita bread, fattoush salad, grape leaves, rakakat cheese rolls and octopus on lentils- it was so fresh and delicious. For the main we had the Amar mixed kebab platter and had kafta and shrimp- both were delicious and the shrimp were huge and cooked perfectly. I wish the kafta was hot because it was served slightly room temperature, but it was still good. After all of that food we ended with the assorted baklava, which was just 2 pieces of baklava. My experience at Amar Mediterranean Kitchen was delightful! The restaurant atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service is excellent, the food is delicious, and they even had entertainment during our dinner. As this was our first visit to this restaurant, the group decided to order several items to share. We started with two dips: classic hummus (chickpea) and baba ghanouj (eggplant), accompanied by soft, warm naan bread. The menu features several varieties of hummus, some of which include proteins (beef, lamb or chicken). They all sounded tempting and worthy of trying on a future visit. We then had falafel, which was made with fried chickpeas and fava beans. While the falafel was tasty, it was a bit dry and benefitted from some of the sauces and dips that came with our other dishes. Next was an order of fatayer, which is spinach pie. These were light and flavorful. The pies were well-stuffed with the spinach. For our main meal, we split chicken taouk, which are grilled chicken kebabs with a side of Lebanese rice. And we had the mixed grill, which is a large dish meant for sharing. It included chicken, kafta (ground beef), steak, lamb chops, grilled veggies and a side of the rice. Every item in the mixed grill was excellent. The food was well-prepared and nicely seasoned. It came with a delightful mint pesto sauce, meant for the lamb chops, but also quite good on the other meats. This entrée was an excellent choice for us to enjoy the variety of Amar's offerings. A lovely dancer flowed through the restaurant throughout our meal. She twirled various items each time she passed by, including a large scarf, flaming torches and even a sword. It started with a generous assortment of silky hummus and fresh, warm pita, followed by perfectly seasoned rice and our choice of protein--cooked to absolute perfection. As another reviewer mentioned here, I also really wanted to love Amar. Their menu looked fabulous, and as vegans, my husband and I saw many dishes that we could try out here under every category. Location is great on 6th right off Atlantic's incredible shopping district. Parking was no problem in their lot at 5:45pm - but by the time we left at 8:45pm on a weeknight it was FULL. Granted, we didn't order a LOT, but the dishes we got were no more than meh. We shared a HUGE beet salad that was nothing more than a mountain of arugula, heap of cubed red beets (ugh) and sprinkling of feta. No onions, seeds, nuts, spices or even tasty dressing. Like I could go to Costco and buy the 2 ingredients used here and make salads for 20 people at once. Other restaurants typically serve a beet salad with paper-thin slices of red and yellow beets beautifully marinated and artfully served. We also ordered the falafel plate, which came with 6 rock hard, overly-fried falafels with a dry, compacted texture. They were served on a plate with a small tin cup of flavorless yogurt. No fresh herbs, no interesting sauce, no garnish of anything else edible (unless you're a rabbit and like raw, minced cabbage?). By comparison, I have honestly had SUPERB falafels right at the food court in Town Center Mall. We also got the Lebanese Moussaka, which - puzzlingly - was served ICE COLD. I assumed it would be baked and warm, but the pre-baked dish comes so cold that the eggplant was more like some kind of gelatinous glop? Again, utterly tasteless, no hint of fresh ground roasted spices used anywhere in this dish. We also ordered the Labneh, but that never came to the table, and we simply didn't care to even follow up on that missing item. On top of which, we sat out on the patio. Be forewarned: you may need to DEET up, cuz I was eaten alive by those little fat, black mosquitoes outside. They devoured my shins and arms and sat on the walls outside next to our table taunting us. The music was loud, and the many fans roaring at FULL BORE (to keep these pesky biters at bay) made conversation nearly impossible. On top of which there is traffic noise on 6th to contend with. I'm thinking there must be a solution to this disappointing dining experience, starting with BETTER FOOD. There needs to be genuine passion and someone with a trained palette for Middle Eastern cuisine in the kitchen there. The competion is close by in Boca, and it's PHENOMENAL - will say no more. I love Middle Eastern cuisine, but felt that Amar is coasting on its reputation? I should mention that the staff there is SUPER friendly and helpful, and they deserve a restaurant that knocks our socks off. This was the 2nd time I went to Amar Mediterranean, but this time I brought with me two other couples because I loved it so much the first time. Unfortunately, the problem this time was that we ate on a Friday night and not during the week. Between the traffic, and the noise at the restaurant. even at 5:30 PM. which is still during happy hour, it made it impossible to totally enjoy ourselves. I could not hear anyone talk at the table. The parking is extremely hard to find even though there is a parking lot right next-door. It's rare to find a free spot. Otherwise, it cost $10 for valet. The restaurant is impossible to find on your navigation. So when my friends got there, they were very, very stressed out. I went through the same thing two weeks ago when I went there for the first time. I almost turned around and went home except I found someone nice on the street who told me exactly how to get there not using my navigation. During happy hour, they have wines by the glass at half price and appetizers discounted. The hummus is delicious and they serve fabulous pita bread that is warm for the table gratis. The hummus comes with shredded lamb on top. Four of us had the Bronzino entrée. It comes with rice and it was excellent. Two others had the lamb chops which they enjoyed as well. None of us wanted a dessert. Coffee was $8 - overpriced. So if I decide to ever go back, it will definitely have to be an early dinner during the week. We dined here on a Saturday night arriving at 6 PM, and ate with two friends. By the time 7PM rolled around, every table was occupied and the sound was deafening. The tables are very close to each other, so much so that when I wanted to get up to use the WC, I had to turn sideways and even then almost didn't get through. I don't think I am the first to mention this, and for that, I took one star off. After all, the owner could install some sound deadening materials, or take a few tables out, but of course, that would affect his bottom line. The restaurant was participating in the Downtown Delray Beach Restaurant Month, 3 course dinner, one course being dessert (baklava only) for $45. I thought that was a good deal, and our friends had eaten there before, and they agreed to go with that suggestion, even though one of them didn't think it would be enough food (4 mezze). That's because he has big eyes, and a big appetite, and couldn't get enough. It was more than enough food, especially with all of their special bread that we downed. Three at the table had the PAN ROASTED SALMON, served with a very large portion of sumac potatoes(delicious). I ordered the Branzino, called SAMKE HARRA and I left 1/2 of it on the plate. It was smothered with "spicy tahini sauce, peppers, garlic, onions, pine nuts", and frankly, it was making me nauseous, even though I pushed it off the branzino. It was partly my fault, I should have asked to have all that on the side, and also ask that the fish be well done. It wasn't well done at all. All the mezze were excellent and large portions, certainly enough for our table. We also ordered a bottle of Lebanese KSARA white wine, $58, recommended by our server Sarah, who was delightful, helpful, efficient, and professional. Yes, a lot of praise for her. I hope she doesn't get a hearing injury from all that noise. Would we return? Yes, but not on a Friday or Saturday, and only at 6 pm. They do not have valet parking. They have outdoor seating, which is really on the narrow street closest to the curb. I would NEVER want to eat there, with dozens of people walking by, and all the vehicles driving by, some of them with revved up engines. NOTE: The owner is on site, greeting and seating you, and he seemed like a nice man, although he never stopped by the table to ask if everything was ok. it's been three years since I've been to this restaurant when they were a small restaurant now they have a new home which I must say it's a beautiful restaurant indoor outdoor seating. We had a lovely waitress name Nicole. She couldn't have been more pleasant. and professional The food is still the kind of food that is not really something that I eat a lot of the shrimp dish was delicious. The shrimp skewers we like that a lot the hummus was also delicious. That comes with pita bread and I asked for cucumbers because I don't eat bread and they charge five dollars for that. I thought that was a bit tacky I've been to other restaurants where they just give you the cucumbers We had some pumpkin appetizers, which was just something I would never order again. I did not like them, but that was my taste We also had lamb pie, which was different and interesting.
