You really can't complain about the price and portion sizes of the food here. $7.49 for the chole bature and it will definitely fill you up if you can finish the whole thing. The bhatura was nice and fluffy and the chana masala was very flavorful as well. I honestly started getting full after eating one of the bhaturas. It felt very filling to me. I love the dahi puri. I could have eaten 20 of these. It was like a flavor explosion in my mouth with so many flavors and textures going on. Loved the flavor of the potatoes and all the sauces that were on this. It's a must-try if you go here. Service isn't the greatest. You go up to order and my friend ordered for us, but the woman picked up a few phone calls while we were standing there so we stood there awkwardly for around 5 minutes. We had lunch here after driving in from Dallas for a wedding. We tried a variety of items and enjoyed them all. I loved the Bombay sandwich, but could do with out the potatoes in it. The bread is buttery soft, but has a crunch from being toasted. The thali, papdi chaat, and masala dosa were all good. The pani puri filling is a bit lacking in flavor, but the pani is so good! The mango lassi was a little to thick for my taste, but I loved the falooda. The thali had a good variety of items and it comes with rice, and your choice of roti or bathura. Excellent authentic Indian food at an amazing price! My boyfriend takes me here occasionally - mainly whenever I'm craving papdi chaat as we've found that this place does it best in Houston. It's counter service and can sometimes get a little busy on Sunday afternoons so expect a little bit of a wait, but it's definitely worth it! P.S. Always good to try new food! We usually dine at pricier places, so it was a fun change of pace. The experience was definitely new for two of the three in our group. The third is a regular and wanted to introduce us to Indian street food. The atmosphere is extremely basic and casual (the location is a sketchy strip center with homeless people asking for money as we left.) Service was pretty much non-existent, which seems appropriate for the type of establishment. You walk in, seat yourself if you can find a clean table, then order your food by table number at the counter. Eventually someone calls your number, and you go and retrieve the food from the counter. We ordered quite a bit, so several trips were required. Some of the food was quite tasty. The textures and flavors were interesting, and the application of various sauces and spices was a nice change of pace for me. Some sauces were too sweet, but others shone while others still left much to be desired. It is exactly what I guess I should have expected for "street food meets fast food" and prices reflect accordingly (it's verrrrrry inexpensive.) I'm Colombian but have been really into South Asian food because it's has some of the most flavorful vegetarian food options. Safe bets if you have never been and want to try get Samosas, Paneer Paratha, and definitely a Chai. If you are more seasoned try any Dosa. This place is ALWAYS packed so get ready for a bit of a wait. It's one of those order first then they call out your order. This is easily the most bang-for-your-buck vegetarian spot in Mahatma Gandhi district. I'm talking seriously delicious food that's cheaper than pretty much any other Indian place in Houston. And given that description, it's unsurprising that I've been here at least 10 times since I first heard about it a couple years ago. My go-to order is the thali - it's a large plate of a bunch of small curries and dishes with rice, papadum, and your choice of puri or chapati. I *always* opt for the puri - it's deliciously oily and tastes great dipped in most of the thali bowls. They mix up what's in the bowls relatively often - usually there's a vegetable one and sambar, and they alternate the rest. There's usually one dessert - I had kheer last time and loved it! I've tried a few of the chat options - kachori, sev puri, and some others. I enjoyed all of them, but my go-to still remains the thali - it's really the best deal! My dad loves the masala dosa here (also delicious), and I tried some of my friend's chole bhature and it was really good! I don't think you can go wrong with pretty much any offering on their menu. Pro-tip: if you buy the parathas at the front counter (also delicious), make sure you reheat with some water or a moist paper towel, or they can get a bit tough. It gets very busy on weekends, so if you aren't familiar with Indian food it might feel a bit rushed and confusing. Favorite Indian Place in Houston! This restaurant is always bustling when I go, but the lines move fast and the food comes out super fresh! The menu is upfront by the cash register and easy to read. They also sell some small snacks in the counter that are perfect for munching at the restaurant or at home. Some things to note: water, glasses, and napkins are located upfront, orders are served at the counter by number, and trays can be left on the table after eating! If you do not enjoy really spicy food, I would recommend you do the same. Even with saying no spice, I still think the chutney is still spicy. The Dahi Puri is the perfect combination of sweet, spicy, and sour. The Bhel Puri gets soggy real fast, so I would recommend eating it first. The menu is pretty elaborate and vegan options are not marked, so I had to rely on the counter staff to help me choose. She recommended the Sev Puri appetizer and a Masala Dosa. We visited my parents' favorite Houston area chaat place for a light dinner last night. It was good! The restaurant, which serves all vegetarian food) is clean. You order up front and they call your number when your order is ready. We went on a weekday around 7pm. There was a small but fast moving line to order, and the food was ready within 10-15 minutes, though not all at once. We tried the pani puri, bhel puri, papdi chaat and mixed chaat. The papdi chaat was really good. The tamarind sauce under the papdi was a little too sweet, but since it wasn't mixed it, I was able to control the sweetness to some extent. I would ask for less tamarind sauce the next time. I'm not a huge fan of bhel puri, and this bhel puri was too sweet for my liking (though I suppose it too can be ordered with a request for less tamarind sauce). The pani puri (last to arrive) was simple but good. The potato and black chickpeas were served on the side, as were the tamarind and green sauces. There was no onion, cilantro or sev, which would enhance the pani puri. I didn't try the mixed chaat, but it looked pretty good. read more
