I made a big mistake of ordering from the wrong restaurant. I usually go to Wabi Sabi like right down the street, but for some reason, I ordered from Shogun, and regretted it as soon as I got home. I ordered from the dinner menu, so it wasn't cheap, and when I opened my food, it was BURNT! I was disappointed that a Teppanyaki restaurant would burn food? I didn't understand. The shrimp was so over cooked that it tasted like rubber. Also, I ordered togo at about 4:00pm, so I doubt they were super busy. I am only giving an extra star because the guy who took my order was super nice. His name was Sebastian. I would definitely never come back, and will always stick with Wabi Sabi. read more

This used to be our favorite Japanese restaurant. Service is very poor. No one can to the table for 10 min. The young girl who did adjusted her shirt to show he tummy. The server was inattentive. I had to flag down a bus person to get walking Dani and ginger for my sushi. Can you imagine not having it served with the entry?? The garnish looked like it was taken from the garbage pile. Had reservations for 12:30 and we walked in at 12:27. I know this because I texted my niece to let her know we were there and she said she knew that because she was 10' away. Forty minutes later when I asked why we hadn't been seated, I was rudely told by the hostess that it was because we arrived late for our 12:30 reservations. No we didn't but even if we had, why did we have to wait almost an hour to be seated with reservations. Too many other good restaurants around to waste my time at this place ever again. read more

We have been to Shogun in La Verne several times years ago, but recently had opportunity to go back to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Parking: plenty of free parking in lot. Reservations: I was able to call a couple of weeks ahead of time for a table of 12 and was easily accommodated and the over the phone service was great. Host: super friendly and got us to our table right away. Servers: extremely attentive!! Several times when my beverage was running low and after turning my head for a few moments to converse, turned back to the drink and it was refilled...awesome. Chefs: put on a pretty decent show, some better than others, but overall high quality and talented. Food: good food overall. The fried rice is fantastic and the shrimps are great. New York steak was pretty good as well. Special occasions: definitely do a good job making the person feel special and acknowledging their reason for celebration. Don't go here. We went for lunch and had one of the worst experiences we've ever had at a restaurant. Service was horrendously slow--an hour and a half for a simple lunch. They charged for tea (most Japanese restaurants don't charge for hot tea), And it was a lukewarm cup of water with a tea bag. The tempura batter tasted like it was cooked in old oil. The katsu chicken was ok, but not hot. The server kept apologizing for the wait, but it never improved. He said he'd bring soy sauce and never did. I'm not a big fish eater, so after going on yelp to see what else they offered, I decided to give this place a try. Let me start off by saying the Gyoza was amazing. Great flavor with just enough crispiness. I went for their teriyaki yakisoba, and while the portions were more than generous, the chicken was actually a little bland, and the noodles weren't that great either. It wasn't terrible, but certainly nothing to brag about. I took my leftovers home, and even my brother wasn't too fond at the taste. Ended up throwing $20 away, right into the trash. By far the worst experience ordering take out. Chris the manger and the two ladies taking orders have no idea what is on their menu. They are rude and have no capacity for costumer service. I've tried the other shoguns and this is my least favorite. They have less sushi options and skimp on the sushi and appetizers. I can't fit the sushi in my mouth elsewhere, but here It fit right in. The appetizers are also have the size of other shoguns. We ordered asparagus and chicken appetizers it was about $7 for the asparagus, and let me just let the picture do the talking...... and I kept asking them to please not put wasabi and ginger on my sushi plate, and twice the wasabi was all in my sushi space! Didn't get seat until 845 pm and the whole time waiting the kids behind the counter were giggling and laughing saying there was nothing they could do. Came here May 8, 2021 with my family ordered food. Gave small amounts of the food (steak, shrimp and fried rice) to my 1 year old son and he got sick real bad. That same night (Sunday morning) he was awake and fussy, tossing and turning in his bed. Sunday morning he woke up with diarrhea and his fever started Sunday night. Since then he's had fever for 3 days highest it's reach each was 101.2 degrees. Has had diarrhea since and lasted until about Saturday the 15. Took him to urgent care on Tuesday the 11th, in Glendora and he got a stool sample and it came back positive with SALMONELLA. We will NEVER be coming back again. Shogun has a long list of violations of cleanliness. You can look at all their violations on La county health department. I would avoid this place at all cost it's not worth you or you little ones getting sick with this bacteria. The "general manager" Jose needs to get Fired immediately. Our family of 16 has been coming to this Shogun at least 10 times a year for birthdays and events for the past 11 years, and this is the first time that we were treated very rudely to the point where we were forced to leave due to the manager not accommodating a simple request. A general manager should be able to conduct critical thinking and all José did was repeat the reason he was not going to help accommodate us. This was the nicest dinning out experience i have had since the Covid shutdown. The wait staff was friendly courteous and professional. Waited 30 min for a table(ok fine we didnt have a reservation). Ordered appetizers ( edamame and crispy rice). The crispy rice may have been the worst I've ever had. Not only was it not crispy, it was soggy. I think someone needs to take a lesson from Chef Weiner at State Social House. Used to come in to this location quite often.. but will no longer do so. It seems to have gone really downhill over the years. Our Chef Arturo was horribly unprofessional from his personality down to the quality of service/cooking. It was so bad infact that we decided to leave before he even began cooking the main course. He got our order wrong, and began to act rudely when I to address it. Arturo acted like he was doing us a favor cooking for us and that any modifications we requested was over-the-top. I think Arturo needs a serious reality check and appreciation for customers that come to pay money to be served. He had to go to the back in order to remedy the mistakes, really odd considering the waitress I was addressing was right there. At any shogun I've ever been to the chef has always asked the waitress to go to the back to get anything once they've come to the grill, and after comporting himself with such poor character we honestly no longer trusted the food.. and that's saying a lot given the fact he has to cook it right in front of us. This place used to be good. Not sure if it's because the new management but the service and food quality had gone downhill. The tables were sticky and dirty. It took them 20 minutes for someone to finally approach our table for drinks. Apparently they forgot about us. After that they got all of our orders wrong. When speaking to the manager, he apparently doesn't know the menu because it's "new". Would not recommend this place for the price. read more

Our adventure of the week brought us here. We tried the Crunchy roll and shrimp tempura appetizers. All tasted very good. The service was excellent and the place was busy. The only negative was the shape of the Restaurant. The booth we sat in was highly used not dirty just overused. The bench seat was cracked and there was grey duct tape on the wall. My friend and I have eaten at Shogun various times and we have had great service every time. Today we decided to go again for lunch. Our chef was very quick to finish and very messy...not really giving our table the full shogun experience. When it was time to serve, some of my shrimps ended up on the table. When the time came to divide the food, my friend and I were last to be served and I gotta say, we both got what was scraped off the grill, very small portion and burnt. My friend ended up getting her rice after everyone was already eating their food. Our waitress was extremely busy and her service and attitude reflected it. Today was not a good experience at Shogun.
