Last night we had the opportunity to take some good friends out to dinner. I am so glad we chose Shoguns! It has been so long since any of us have visited this particular establishment. Probably because when we have the chance to visit it is always for a special occasion or a birthday. Last night was special though. The manager welcomed us and got us seated right away. Maria our server greeted us and took our food and drink order. Shortly after she brought our soup & salad Maria was very attentive, fun, and always had a big smile on her face. Not too long after the soup and salad our the chef arrived at the table. Chef Vi was quite the artist! He gave us a big show. He was full of jokes and had a great big smile the entire time. Go for the fun and go for the friendly people but don't go for the quality of food. The food is just ok and there are much tastier options in Tulsa. Everything is over salted, way over salted, to the point where it was overwhelming in some dishes. The decor is old, needs a refresh and i am not a fan of carpeted dining rooms. If I could give them a 0 star rating, I would!! Me and my family had a reservation at 7 but wasn't seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time. When we were finally seated, it took someone 10-15 minutes just to take our drink order, then another 20-25 minutes before the chef came to start cooking due to the stove top not working and whatever other delays the restaurant had. Before the chef came out, the waiter that took our order bought the soup and salad out. When he took it off the tray to give to each of us, his thumb was in the soup and the salad and he got some of the he order wrong. We could've left after that but after traveling 7 hours from Houston, TX, we were tired and just wanted to eat plus it was late on a Monday evening. We complained to the manager afterwards but to say that the service was terrible is an understatement! I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. read more

Friendly staff and great food. I will say the floors were a little dirty and I have no idea why the restaurant has carpet instead of a flooring surface that would be more hygienic . Our chef was great and did his best to accommodate all our requests. Horrible management! Never go back. I asked for a glass of champagne and instead of opening the bottle which o would of had more than one glass of he pulled the bar tender away and told him to not open it for me to give me cooks that is cheaper. Maybe I came on a bad night (a Sunday?) but I was incredibly disappointed with my most recent experience at Shogun's. First, when we were seated, we were seated at the grill with a large party. I get that sharing table space is inevitable when you're at a hibachi restaurant, but this party seriously took up the majority of the table, whereas our reservation was only for 2. The host wouldn't re-seat them and give them their own grill (citing existing reservations and there not being any other space for them), and they walked out. I was on their side because later in the evening, there were definitely parties of 2-3 we could have easily sat with, instead of intruding on their large party. In fact, there was a birthday celebration of 3 people who got a grill all to themselves, like 20 minutes later. Secondly, and more importantly, the food was BAD. I remembered going to Shogun's a few years earlier and thinking the food as equally good as the show. During this visit, the show was okay, but the food was so bland and improperly cooked. I asked for my steak cooked medium, which I guess the chef interpreted as "Leave in the hot section of the grill for as long as possible." Seriously, the people who ordered CHICKEN had their protein taken off the heat before my steak was. The chef just let it sit there and cook, until it was the penultimate item on the grill. That was definitely not even in the ballpark of a medium cook. Everything else was not memorable, or I just blacked it out because I was swallowed by internal grief or rage over my overcooked steak. I'd like to give Shogun's a second try, but Tulsa has more hibachi options I'd rather visit first. TL;DR: I used to like Shogun's, but they overcooked my steak, and I was filled with negative emotions. read more

I am a huge hibachi fan, so I've seen the best and worst of these types of places. Shogun is not the best I've been to, but it's not even close to the worst. The thing that sets this place apart from the other places I've been is the HUGE amount of meat you get... I probably got ten ounces of steak with my meal. Usually these places load you up on veggies and everything else and skimp on the meal, but this place doesn't skimp on anything. Don't expect for every chef to be Asian and the best hibachi show you've ever seen, and you'll have yourself a grand ol' time. read more

Being with a large group, we wanted to eat at a Hibachi type restaurant. As soon as we entered, I thought "Oh boy, this isn't going to be good". There was a strange odor in the establishment. The bathrooms were dirty and smelly. So getting to the experience, our waitress was very nice. She took our drink orders, but came back to ask me what was a Grey Goose on the rocks. She brought a sheet of paper with all their available beverages with numbers corresponding to each. I told her #209 on the rocks. Really? Bar service was slow. The chef came out to start our meals. The chef was talented and entertaining. The food was really very good and not very expensive. $250 for 7 people with 1-2 drinks each. I won't go back. It's a one time experience kind of place. Teppanyaki grills like Shogun are very popular for the show that you get with the food. The chef also serves as the entertainment for the evening while you watch him cook your food. But if you have been to one, you have been to all of them. It's really fun to take people who have never been to a place like this and is definitely worth the initial experience. The food was good. First off we were served some sort of miso soup that was ok, I have had better. Then came the salad with a miso ginger dressing. Again typical for a place like this. Then came the grilled veggies, fried rice and shrimp appetizers. Once that was out of the way, they chef began to cook everyone's individual meat orders. I ordered the scallops and they were cooked perfectly that they melt in your mouth. The lemon sauce was a nice addition to the scallops. After that came the grilled bean sprouts to finish off the meal. Along with the meal came hot green tea and ice cream for dessert. I gave this place 4 stars for the friendly and attentive wait staff, nicely cooked food and atmosphere. I would come again. read more

Made reservations for 8 o clock didn't get seated till awhile after... the restaurant was so hot due to poor ventilation. The waitress was a straight up jerk by glaring when my father and I asked for a soda. The chef that was cooking in front of us didn't give us a show at all.. but the other chefs surrounding did an amazing job from what i had seen. The chef didn't do any tricks and the only "trick" he did was an egg slide to which he then cracked the eggs over the spatula and let it run down onto the stove top. Food was mid, chicken was extremely bland and when the waitress asked us what ice cream I wanted I said strawberry and she came back with a scoop of sherbert and maybe a spoonful of strawberry ice cream and looks me like I'm annoying her and with a blank expression says "We're out of strawberry". For some reason, this has become the place for high schoolers to take their dates before the big prom. I'm not sure what that says for the quality, but it seems to work as a prelude for hormonal happiness. The food always is secondary to the chef's show at these places and they all have the same bag of tricks. It's a great place to experience once. It's a fair place to experience twice. It's pretty stale by the third time. The soup is bad but the rest of the food is passable ... literally passable around the table, if you wish. Try it, you'll like it. This was my first time at a hibachi steakhouse, so my review may be a bit bias b/c I have nothing to compare it to...but it was just amazing! Our chef was very seasoned and knew what he was doing. The NY strip and scallops were cooked perfectly, seasoned well and super fresh. The rice, veggies and sauces were just icing on the cake. This is a great place for groups. Last time I will go to Shogun's. My last experience was not good and tonight even worse. I had always loved eating here. Not any more. Wondering if they are preparing to go out of business. The inside of the restaurant was COLD and uncomfortable. It was freezing outside and I was freezing inside. The KOI pond had no fish, the equipment in the pond was not functioning. The table top cooking equipment at the table we sat at was not working . They did not move us and the manager came over several times to try and get the gas to function. Our cook had a small area that functioned and it took more than an hour for him to cook for 8 people. During the whole time we were all freezing. I sware they did not have the heat on. The food was not good at all. The waitress was so pushy and seemed annoyed when you did not go with her suggestions. She was trying to go home and kept trying to pick up our dishes while we were eating. While we were eating our dinner she brought our ticket and then asked if we wanted ice cream. My wife and I went on New Year's Eve for the first time and were amazed. Our chef, Kevin, was great. Very personable and we loved his showmanship. This restaurant hasn't changed in 30 years. In some ways, that's good. The food is still pretty tasty. In some ways, it isn't so great. The atmosphere is really tired. The woodwork as you walk in is totally falling apart. The carpet inside the bar is sticky. The drop down ceiling is stained inside the restaurant. I would say to think twice before going to this place. It is in dire need of a refurb. It's a shame though. This used t be "the place to be" when we were in high school. Let me start of by saying, that my experience last night here with the food and management was so bad, that I am writing my very first review. I'm devoting this time to hopefully save others from wasting their money and time. I have been coming to Shogun since before they moved to Memorial, so 20+ years. Slowly but surely the last few visits have become more and more disappointing. Last night was the final straw. Here we go: 1. The towels that they hand you to clean your hands at the beginning used to be piping hot, now they are cold. Don't know why, but its off putting. 2. You have no time whatsoever to decide what you want to eat, be ready to order drinks and food within 3 minutes of sitting down. 3. First coarse- The salad with "homemade" dressing was sitting in a bowl of water, it was a bland sloppy mess. 4. Second coarse- Put simply, soup was just bland and boring. 5. Next comes the vegetables. Let me state that here that for years Shogun's vegetables were some of the best I've had anywhere, period. This time, overcooked and almost too bitter to consume. 6...Probably this biggest let down of them all.. Fact: The famous ginger sauce is no longer the same. Not as rich and savory. This was by far the best ingredient Shogun has ever had, and its now gone. 7. My wife orders the "Rising Sun" a shrimp meal. They are now using shrimp literally half the size they used to. Of coarse your still paying full price. I really wish i could post this picture I have, but I've already spent enough time on this review. It was a slap in the face to say the least. 8. The bean sprouts used to be fresh, bright, and succulent. They now look like they've been stored for weeks and are sloppy, and taste old. Very gross. 8. Your no longer offered green tea. This is also a fact, it has happened the last 3 times. I spoke with management at the front desk about our issues. He could not have cared less. He was basically just waiting for me to go away. I don't recall his name, but he has been there for years. Told him about the shrimp that was served, his response was that nothing has changed. The best service offered from management was "Sorry Charlie". Worst 100 bucks I have ever spent. The server and chef were nice. Shogun is truly a shell of its former self. So I came here tonight with my son. There was 3 other people at the table with us another mom and her two young kids. Our waitress was great very attentive, nice and made sure we were all taken care of. The issue was not with our server but with our cook. Shogun is suppose to be a family place where the chef comes out and puts on a great show for everyone...That did not happen...he has no personality he did nothing at all but cook the food normal. I could of went to Sarku japan and paid less for the same food plus more...Before we left our kind waitress informed us that he was a new chef was a bit shy..Which I feel for him and i get how overwhelming and stressful and nerve racking that can be , but then have him shadow another chef until he picks it up or have him practice ahead of time before shift or something ... the experience was just terrible. The food wasn't great either it wasn't seasoned it was very bland he forgot to cook the shrimp appetizer and the sprouts until the very end he apologized and again I don't even really blame him if he was that knew they shouldn't have had him gone out there alone. I felt sorry for him you can tell he knew the entire table was disappointed. Hopefully he gets some more training before they put him back out there! Our chef was great with the kids and the food was absolutely amazing. My kids had the kids shrimp and my wife and I both had the Hibachi Steak. Generous portions, a great course pace. Shogun's has been my favorite Japanese Steak house since the 90's here in Tulsa, but not anymore. The service has hit a all time low, not enough waiters or cooks, but plenty of hostesses. The food is still good, but doesn't out way the wait time at your table (2 hours last night) for everything and getting orders wrong after the wait. One waiteres for the whole restaurant and 2 hostesses standing around doing nothing, not sure why you need 2 hostesses at a restaurant that only has 15 tables. read more

We eat here every few months and it's always a special treat. The food is pretty awesome. I like and have eaten every item they serve. The cooking "show" varies from chef to chef but even the new chef can be fun to watch. You won't be disappointed. read more
