My friend ordered an appetizer thinking it'll come first bc well, it's an appetizer, when My friend asked where is her appetizer & she answered "It takes time to make!" Duh! We knew that lol. My friend also asked for some to go boxes & they were going to charge us $1 per box! Our bill was $80, we can't even get boxes for extra food we ordered! My goodness. The owner is really nice. I usually get their tonkatsu to go. Portion is pretty generous compared to other Japanese restaurants. Their side salad is also good. Only downside is you have to pay extra for miso soup. read more

I come here fairly regularly - maybe once every two to four weeks or so - and have yet to complain about this place. I usually get the bento box with tonkatsu and california roll. The gyoza is delicious! Their other rolls are all right - not the best, but not bad either. I've found the service to be quick, and the owners and servers seem friendly. read more

Ordered sushi to go and it was NOT GOOD. It's also my first time trying this place out, and I won't be coming back. I ordered the golden dragon roll With cream cheese added into it and it was just so soggy and soft. And there was a bunch of oil at the bottom of my to go box. I could feel the oil on my lips! HiI invited a client of mine to dine at Shogun yesterday. I am still in aw of the way the ownwer carries himself. when taking our order he was lecturing us on how we have to try something to know if we like it instead of him recommending an item off his menu. Then he saw my Avon book on the table and in front of my client he told her how bad the product is and to not buy any. After the meal came and we paid. I approached him and tried to tell him that I am an Avon rep and what he said was out of line. He became irrate and put his hand in my face and didn't want to hear anything I had to say. No matter how good a restaurants food is this type of service is unacceptable. My client stated she will never return to this establishment. The sad part is that the Avon Center is next door to this establishment and we could have given him so much business. read more

I was totally blown away by our experience at this restaurant today. My husband and I have been coming to this place for a long time and were very shocked at how the owner went literally CRAZY today. I have never been treated this way in my life. This is a warning to people with children "Do Not Come To this restaurant, You are not welcome!" We were sat to have dinner. Our twin boys were sitting in the high chairs, making normal chatter that babies do. I never felt they were getting loud or disruptive but suddenly out of nowhere, the owner approaches our table crazily telling us that our children were bothering the other customers and that he had a sign on the wall stating he could refuse service and he wanted us to leave. It was so unreal and embarrassing. Now I know why the restaurant is always so empty. My advise to the owner is that he have psychiatric help ASAP. Very sad experience. read more

I've come here since I was little (like 5) and I'm not sure where the bad reviews are coming from. As far back as I can remember, it's been the same owner so at least 16 years. He even remembers me as a child and comments about it all the time. He has always been very nice and friendly with me and my parents, even when the restraunt was very busy. I'm not sure where the reviews come from with having to pay for boxes. We've gone home with 3-4 boxes of food and they usually ask us if we want boxes. The food has always been delicious, though it does change ingredients sometimes; but who doesn't like variety? It's Def my most favorite sushi restraunt in Stockton, not only for memory purposes (I've celebrated every birthday/new years here since I was 5) but because I genuinely like the food since it's always been fresh in my experiences. read more

My wife and I have been to most of the popular sushi establisments in Stockton and Shoguns is our favorite. The rolls (especially UOP) are outstanding, the service impeccable, and decor/environment is pleasant. As mentioned in other reviews the salad & dressing are absolutely wonderful - probably the best I've had of any sushi restaurant I've been to. The bento boxes are good portioned and the chicken teriyaki/tempura we usually get are great. We wish the meat in the sukiyaki would be cooked differently as every time we get this dish the meet is over cooked to the point where its chewy/rubbery - otherwise the broth is delicious and goes well with the tofu & mushrooms that are part of the dish. The restuarant is probably difficult to find for those not familiar with the area - its next door to an Indian restaurant and across the parking lot from a Smart foods grocery store. This is the first place I ever ate sushi, and this was years ago. Since then it has changed owners and I know several people who became snobby after that, but I actually think the menu improved under the new ownership. I have never had a bad experience dining here, and I've eaten at Sho Gun many many times. There are other more trendy places in town, and I like several places, but I have some serious love for Sho Gun. Fresh every time, great staff, and nothing bad to say at all. I love how friendly the owner is. He's a very kind hard working man. Always checking on us when we eat. Most of the staff is always friendly (except for one female server). I like the soups when I'm feeling under the weather they make me feel better. I enjoy the sushi to for a fair price. He doesn't sacrifice quality for profit either. He wants to give you the best and fresh available. I think they could use a remodel in the bathroom areas and maybe get at point of sale system in. If I could give this place zero stars I would !! Worse dining experience of my life! I have never been stereo typed and profiled for the color of my skin! Me and my two children went to this restaurant to eat light and beat the heat first we walk in no service for 5 minutes. When there is only one couple in the restaurant. Finally we get seated after 10 min. I stop one man walking by if we could please get a menu . The women who from prior reviews I belive is the co-owner brings menus I ask for water with lemon and no ice after about 10 more min. She comes and asks are we ready to order I said can we please get our water she says OK. After about five more min. She returns with bottle waters I said we asked for water with lemon She says we don't serve water during covid I said you don't have tap She says yes but no ice I told her that's fine I asked for no ice. Finally we get our water and order food was good but portion sizes are small. I ask for bill I notice I still am charged for the bottle waters bring it to her attention to adjust the bill she seemed to have an attitude and my card was not reading the chip after several tries I point out to tap it and she asks me for ID I told her why she didn't ask before the card wouldn't read chip ? She just gives me slip I sign and say thank you no response she locks the door right behind us ! We leave I am parked in front of the door as I'm pulling out I notice she is in the window with her phone taking pictures of my car . I get back out and knock on the door and she comes and I ask why is she taking pictures of my car ? She says no she wasn't when my children seen her as well ! I told her I wouldn't be concerned about my bill if it was stolen and less than $40 worth off food ! I was in business work attire with my six year old daughter and seventeen year old son. I have never felt profiled before and she locked the door because she knew she was going to take the pictures. This place was empty and finally reading some of the reviews horrible service I understand. I like to help small businesses but for her to treat guests like this I won't be returning or recommending to anyone them to anyone and beware !! read more

We LOVE this place. Surprisingly it's never very busy. The service is amazing the rolls are delicious and priced well. My husband and I bring our two year old here about once a week and they are always so sweet to her. She loves her some salmon nigiri and the pieces are huge.
