Been here twice, and both times the food is very good. The first time, there were some issues as they didn't call my name or text when my order was ready, and even though I was waiting in the seating area, I had no idea the food was ready. I submitted a survey response about this and they were very quick to contact me and promise this wouldn't happen in the future. This was also on a weekday afternoon, so it seemed very slow and there were no employees in ordering area, unless they someone walked up. Came back again on a weekend, and all the issues were fixed. A little more on the sweet side, but still delicious. I was not impressed with the mac salad. I feel like you need to at least have a decent Mac salad to earn 4 stars from me. The brulee over the musubi give a perfect blend of sweet and salty with a little hint of burnt flavoring. The honey coconut shrimp musubi pretty much tastes like honey walnut prawns. Came here over the weekend. Got the chicken sandwiches as that's what they seem to be most known for. The buns itself are on the smaller end but the chicken is huge. Love the sauce it was coated in. The sweetness from the buns and spicy from the chicken blended together very well. I had a kimchi aftertaste lingering in my mouth. The macaroni salad added another layer of texture to it though I couldn't really taste it because of the spice. The chicken is very crunchy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. I kind of wish they had some sort of slaw in the sandwich to balance out the spice but overall it was a tasty sandwich. 4 stars due to the wait times. I came shortly after they opened and they did tell me that it takes 15-20 minutes to make. i ended up waiting 22 minutes- which is fine, as i was aware it would take time, but it seemed somewhat extreme for 2 sandwiches. read more

Came here with my girlfriend because we heard good things about it from other friends, so we were excited to try it out. It's located in the Rodeo 39 Public Market area, and I think it moved locations within the market recently, so it might take a few minutes to find it. The prices are a bit steeper than what you'd pay or the amount you'd get for like a typical hawaiian bbq style type place, but there's a reason for that. It's not a typical place like ono or something, the flavors and offerings are much more unique. Plus, everything in this plaza is generally "overpriced", but if you're coming here, you shouldn't be looking for good deals, but rather interesting and new food places to try. Highly recommend the butter katsu plate/combo thing. The macaroni is amazing and of course so is the meat. I still want to try the other menu items, but I was thoroughly satisfied with it. I think I saw other reviews about poor service, but in my opinion, they're doing just fine for the volume of customers that come through. It's almost always super busy in this market, so if you have just a little bit of patience, I bet your experience won't be that bad. read more

I felt sudden panic when I visited Rodeo 39 and Shootz was not in it's regular spot. I got super bummed but when we walked around a bit more, 'lo and behold we find Shootz nestled in the corner where Hook & Anchor used to be. Shootz is my type of comfort food. I've had a few of their items, and I always find myself craving their musubis. They're a quick snack and leaving you full and satisfied. Today, we wanted something to easily eat and opted for their two musubis, the Spam Brulee and the Honey Coconut Shrimp. The spam brulee has a similar caramelized looking top like creme brulee, just not hardened. Think the top of a baked sushi roll. This musubi is on the sweeter end but gets balanced out with the saltiness of the spam. The Honey Coconut Shrimp musubi tastes just like a honey walnut shrimp dish. For some reason, I envisioned the shrimp used in the musubi similar to the traditional honey coconut shrimp dish (deveined and "curled" shrimp) and not a shrimp tempura (stretched shrimp). Either way, give it a try. I think you'll like it :) Notes: If you order alcohol from Shootz, you can only drink it in their dining area. We ended up not ordering alcohol there since we wanted to eat in another area of the Market where it was more open. read more

My entire party got the kimchi chicken katsu. First impressions: the meal was the perfect size and portion. To go plating was nice and organized. Taste: 10/10. I usually don't care for katsu but that kimchi taste in the batter was superb. It added great flavor to the katsu. Macaroni salad was good too. The kimchi butter katsu chicken was so devilishly delicious and I loved the cronch of the Jalapeño garlic shrimp. Don't let the container size fool you--this meal will make you FULL. Even my trash compactor of a boyfriend had to save some for later! The spam brûlée musubi was incredibly filling as well. The sauce on top is what I imagine to be similar to a Lion King bake sauce (mayo, cheese, ponzu, and sugar). Even if I'm wrong, whatever it is, it's delicious. Maybe next time I would ask for it to be torched a little bit more because I love the seared flavor. We were also big fans of the macaroni salad as we loved the addition of tuna! Lines are usually long, but their contactless menu helps with that. The Hot Kimchi Chicken Sandwich is a must. It's sooooo good and flavorful. The two times I visited were generally good but the flavors differed a bit in terms of intensity. My first visit was great, balanced, and intense without being intrusive. My second visit was too saucy, too spicy, too much mayo, and too much butter. Generally speaking, the flavors were the same so that was good, so maybe someone was just being a bit too heavy handed in the kitchen that day. Service on both occasions was super friendly and engaging. Packing and presentation were clean and attractive. The mac salad is great when there isn't a gallon on mayo in each scoop. I love the vibe of Rodeo 39 and how many different options of food there are. We opted for Shootz since we don't eat hawaiian food all that often. Between the two of us, we shared the spicy kimchi butter katsu chicken plate and an order of brûlée spam masubi which was more than enough. The flavor of the katsu was unique and the butter was prominent. If I didn't know it was kimchi flavored though, I wouldn't have guessed. It just tastes like very well marinated buttery goodness. The chicken was not dry and perfectly fried. One of the best I've tried for sure. As for spice, it had a little kick but nothing too crazy. The sauce from the katsu submerged the rice bed underneath and it was delicious. Because of the butter, I think it gave it an Italian taste. Soo good! The mac salad kinda threw us off because there were tuna bits in it. I wasn't expecting that and it made the flavor of the mac salad fishy. Other than that, it was made deliciously.. just wish there wasn't the canned tuna surprise. The brûlée spam masubi was also pretty unique and delicious. The spam was brûléed as well as the sauce on the top which gave it the smoky charcoal taste that I love! I think the way they cook the spam makes it less salty and sickening. Thirsty Thursday deal (5/5): worth your money. Comes with the fishbowl which has 2 bottles of soju in it and an extra bottle of soju on the side. You get to choose the mixed juice that comes in it and all 3 soju flavors. We got cali sunset + strawberry soju + yogurt soju. You can sample the mixed juices. They put extra shark gummies in our fishbowl since they didn't float. Sharks we're kinda hard even though they were soaked in the cocktail. Soju bottle comes chilled with shot glasses. It is STRONG. The fishbowl alone is recommended for 3-4 people but I came with just one friend and finished everything. The room was spinning after that. Must finish all the alcohol in the shootz area. O M G Absolutely delicious! Usually I dont like katsu because so may times the meat is dry and in order to make it palatable I needed to dunk it into a massive amount of katsu sauce! But this place absolutely blew me away! I got the Kimchi Butter Katsu Plate and right away from the first bite you can tell that the meat is juicy and soft, and as you chew the sauce on the fried coating starts to engage your taste buds. First the kimchi flavor kicks in beautifully and then subtly the butter flavor melds into your tongue. Whoever came up with this recipe is a true master! Im just blown away by how I got to taste such an artfully made katsu for such an affordable price! I also got the creme brulee musubu and the coconut shrimp musubi and they were both great but nit as amazing as the kimchi butter katsu. If you want to try a unique musubi I would recommend getting the creme brulee musubi. Overall I was very surprised and happy that I got to experience the kimchi butter katsu.
