We decided to have an impromptu family crab leg feast at a relative's home since I was in town and we decided to get the crab legs from this ShopRite since we knew that all the other ShopRites we've been to steam the crab legs right at the seafood counter and season them with Old Bay. This was our first time ever visiting this location (and it is absolutely in dire need of updating / remodel) but we were happy to discover that they also steam and season the crab legs in house. We needed 15 pounds of legs and knew it would be a wait for them to season and steam them all so we were prepared to do the other shopping we needed for the meal. The gentleman at the counter was absolutely friendly and ensured that he fully understood how we wanted the legs prepared. He told us it would be about 15-20 minutes so we were off to shop the rest of the store while the order was being prepared. The layout of this store is beyond confusing and compares to no other locations I've ever visited which makes shopping the story slightly frustrating. There are lots of price checkers yet half of them aren't properly functioning. The bakery counter wasn't staffed and after 5 minutes of waiting I decided to go with a prepackaged cake since no one was there to get the cake I really wanted from the display case. Luckily the crab legs were ready so I grabbed them and headed to the checkout lanes. My cashier was absolutely over the day and wasn't in the mood to make small talk (or any talk for that matter with me) and when my phone number didn't work for the price plus card and I asked if there was a store card I could use, he simply said "NO" .... so I politely asked the gentleman behind me on line if he wanted to get points for my purchase if he was kind enough to scan his card so I could get the little savings for the sale items and he said sure. I knew walking out that I would never voluntarily return to this location ever again in life but I was still excited about the crab leg feast .... yet once we got home and set things up we immediately noticed that the crab legs weren't steamed long enough and 1/2 of them were cold :( read more

i am at the point that I cannot buy my meats in this store. It has been several times I go to cook something, and it winds up in the garbage. The smell is horrible, the Meat has not expired it is just bad. I have even found some in the cases that are expired, and bring to their attention. If I ask them to thin out something or a special cut it is always in 15 minutes or more. The store never has anything they advertise, I am sad because I always shopped here, I have been a customer there since they opened , and now I have to go elsewhere. read more

You make the worst store brand egg salad I've ever tasted and since the egg price thing you refuse to carry any other brand besides your store brand. The problem with your store egg salad is that you won't break down and use Hellman's mayonnaise and you also have something like vinegar in it. Please get sally sherman egg salad. read more

The first time ordering from Shoprite of Hackensack for delivery. Delivery went great, however all my produce including plantains, herbs, were all old, over ripe and yellowing upon delivery. My Rye Bread is already has mold on it and everything was only delivered on Friday. I have pictures. Never again. I deserve a refund read more

Shoprite, packed with folks grocery shopping and a terrible parking lot plaza that funnels people into a tight entry/exit corridor. Inside, standard chaos for a Shoprite, good value items at the end caps and they had a meat department that was fully staffed and helping folks cut prime rib and more for the holiday rush. Deli hot food behind the counter, so have to wait for help to pay ($7.99/lbs). Chicken wings were a bit undercooked, I had to rewarm at home. Checkout had a few lines that were self checkout, but I saw a lot of chaos there. A few longer conveyor belt self checkout lines, also inefficient. read more

This location definitely stepped up their game since the pandemic started, but it has room for improvement. Pros: lots of self-checkout lanes cause lines to move quickly, most items are in stock, the employees are pretty friendly, and they enforce social distancing Cons: the carts are not wiped down and have trash in them, they leave large pallets in the middle of aisles which make it hard to navigate, and the organization of the store doesn't really make sense It's a normal, neighborhood store. This is my go to grocery store. They always have a wide selection in the bakery and meats department. The lines move fast so they never seem to be badly understaffed. There are a couple customer service counter employees that always seem to be annoyed to have to help you with something (i only go up there for smokes though). Prices are reasonable and the place appears clean. One definite downside, which I guess isn't exactly with the store itself, but with the delivery service for Shoprite. I live a couple blocks away and home delivery is $20. That seems excessive when I used to use Peapod (Stop and Shop) for $5 at a farther distance. read more

No caffeine free coke, overhead signage means you have to get right in front of isle to read because some euclidean logic challenged employee mounted these so that they serve no useful purpose. All they had to do was move them forward and rotate the signs so they are readable. Prices are high compared to other stores. read more

Definitely the worst Shoprite I have ever been to based on terrible customer service, rude shoppers, and a squished parking lot. I recently called asking about a catering price for the brisket on behalf of a family member and after 5 minutes of ringing a rude lady answered and said "I can't tell you the price over the phone." She did not specify why or offer anything else so I hung up and definitely suggest you go elsewhere since the catering is frozen as it comes "cold" when you are supposed to pick it up (plus the nasty workers are no fun). The cashier I had today was a new employee and so old that he couldn't read the screen so my small $25 order took way longer than it should have. Fortunately, they just got brand new self scanners so if you don't mind doing all the work after spending your money and shuffling through the rude crowd then I suggest going there. The extra star is for the large variety of meats and low prices they have. If you come here be prepared for rudeness and slowness. That's the price of cheap though. read more

This review is for their online shopping and delivery. They should be embarrassed to charge $12.95 for this "service". 1/4 to 1/2 of your groceries can be missing and turns up it was left at store. You can enter notes so you can instruct what to substitute if item is not available. Good idea, in theory. Doesn't work if notes aren't read. No matter how much I think the next time will be better- nope. They should return to the original way they ran delivery service. read more

Shitty ass location. Go to get a cart you know where they should be all cracked out carts and only 4 in front of store either broken and 2 stuck together. Had to walk to where people put carts in parking lot to get a decent one. It's like no one does their job there regarding these carts. It was 3 in the afternoon so what the heck? Go to an aisle with 2 people ahead and cashier was like no and waved her finger no back and forth pointing to lady in front of me that that was it. Nice and classy. I placed a home delivery to be delivered on Monday the 3rd of October. I received a email around 1:30 letting me know that my order would arrive between 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm. When I got out of work I checked my messages and Shoprite called and said that I better call by 2:30 pm or my oder will be canceled because my card was declined. The number that shoprite called me jept saying that this was not a working number, I had to look up the number. I was put on hold forever. When someone finally took my call they told me that my order was still there and the only way that I would be able to get is ti come to the store and pay for it there. We'll that defeats the purpose of a home delivery. There was no other option so I said cancel it. Not good service. Never again Shoprite. read more

Fruit in prepackaging is always rotten and slimy! Poor selection of food throughout store! Be sure to check expiration dates of food as lots have already expired. This review is for the ShopRite pharmacy not the rest of this grocery store. I just left I'm so upset after going there for years for all my prescriptions I drove from Paramus. I didn't realize that it opens at nine so I walked around the store because it was 830. Finish shopping and I sat in front of the pharmacy waiting for the open with my newborn. 902 still not open no one's there. 905 still not open no one is there. Finally at 9:10 someone comes they open I walk up I asked for my prescription the woman flips out on May that they just opened and that I need to relax because they I need to give them a break. I don't know about anyone else's job but my job I have to be on time. And I was only asking her to fill the prescription I didn't mean she had her hands me out at second and then proceeded to tell me that I need to wait an additional 20 minutes. With an attitude and continued yelling at me as I was walking away so upset nearly in tears. I called my doctors office and had them change my prescription from there to Rite Aid never again I wouldn't recommend it. On the plus side the deli department everybody's very friendly there and I had no problems with the cashiers either super nice. read more

This review is about the.Shoprite From Home Service at this store. Today rotten tomatoes and bananas that will be rotten tomorrow AM were delivered in conjunction with my order. When I call to complain, I'm told "the truck was late today" so that was all that was available when the order was picked. What's up with that? Why not call and advise there is an issue and find out if the customer wants to delete those items or perhaps accept a later delivery slot when presumably fresher items will be available. It's also clear Wakefern doesn't give a rats ass about what's going on when you call customer service. I was told by a supervisor that customers don't want to pay a premium for the home shopping service so it's challenging to provide good service. There may be some of us who would be willing to accept the higher shopping fee that existed last year if good service was the result. There are other Inserra Shoprites that provide great service (example Northvale.). Maybe what's needed is a management swap to get things working favorably for those of us in the Hackensack area. Update to review 3/23/19: So here we are two weeks later, and the Hackensack Shop From Home department delivered "fresh" sliced cold cuts to me with a "sell by" date of 3/22 in conjunction with my weekly order today. As the cold cuts receive a sell by date of the day after they are sliced, these were sliced on 3/21. The store is replacing the cold cuts tomorrow but they honestly do not appear be aware that selling "expired" food can result in a consumer protection complaint. The store claims that they pick produce, deli, dairy and meat the day of your order. Buyer beware as this is apparently not the case as the store does what wants when it wants with your order. This review is about Shoprite from Home. They just switched to a new delivery service and my order was delivered with 20% of it (dollarwise) missing. So either delivered to wrong customer or stolen. Big supermarket with tons of inventory. Their seasonal aisle contains lots of goodies that pertain to holidays and a few random items that have no particular allegiance to any holiday. This is definitely a one-stop shop. Prices are decent but you'd do well to clip coupons and coordinate with their weekly circular for absolute savings supremacy. Parking is a breeze and their public restroom is usually a decent option. Most of the cashiers are fairly speedy. It would be nice if there were a couple of self-check stands but there aren't. The store anchors a strip mall where you'll find a few dining options and a Chase Bank. During the summer they have random classic car shows at night. You might even see a low rider or too. I live right around the corner from this Shoprite and its great. Clean, large, well-stocked. There's a Dunkin Donuts in the bakery, and they have fresh sushi by the vegetables so that's always a plus! Have had a couple of instances where the item doesn't ring up at sale price, so I just get my price modification at the customer service counter. Overall, great store. read more

Usually the Shop Rite I frequent near me is located near Paterson. I have only been to this place a few times while I was working for a company, trying to find something to eat in between classes from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and now just a for a quick shopping trip. What I do enjoy the most about their store is the fresh hot food that is made daily. Their ribs are so succulent, the mac and cheese I cannot complain about, and the rest you will have to try on your own As for the rest, my favorite desser to buy from them is a classic Tres Leches slice of cake. Cut into a square moist dessert it is to die for. It never fails in it's sweetness, melt in your mouth delectable characteristics. The selection of the produce,meats, breads, home goods, are more than adequate. During this visit the color of the produce popped out of me. It is important that you understand that more of my review is about the store setup and service than it is about their products. Like every other ShopRite, they have most everything you need in the way of groceries. I would even say that their premade sushi is very good and rivals the sushi restaurants in the area. HOWEVER, after shopping in ShopRites in Parsippany, West Caldwell, Morris Plains and more, this one gets barely 2 stars based on other factors. I shop here often for lunch or a few items to take home (I work in the area). I have never seen a store that allows the front end to get so backed up with shopping baskets without collecting them and bringing them near the entrance. Often there are none outside and you need to make your way through the slow moving checkout lines, reach under the counter and take one that is there. Speaking of lines, is it store policy or just luck that who appear to be slowest checkout clerks are assigned to the express lines? I love spending about 4 minutes picking up the items I need and then 14 minutes on the express line. I apologize if this could hurt any store employees but this is one location in desperate need of self-checkout lines. Either that or a comfy waiting area with couches and snacks to hang out in as one waits their turn to check out. Finally, whoever is in charge of merchandizing this location should be subject to random drug testing. The entire front end of the store has that "just drop it here" look with displays appearing out of nowhere and racks of expiring goods in prime locations. Finally, I would like to know who the cashier at the first express register has to pi** off to be assigned that spot. When the door opens for a customer, it is like a wind tunnel which, when it is 20 degrees outside, is terrible for the cashier and the 1,500 people waiting for hours on that line to check out. read more
