Shorehouse!! I have a fond memory of brunch items in La Jolla area because this is the food group that I craved back in undergrad and LJ spots didn't disappoint. Shorehouse was no exception. FLAVORS I TRIED & RANKING: - Seared Salmon Benedict: DELISHHH. I loved the crispy exterior of the English muffin that this was on. The salmon was ON POINT too. The egg consistency was simply amazing, runny but also semi-cooked. Perfection. The Hollandaise was on point too. SERVICE: it was good! Be sure to check-in if you are on the Yelp waitlist otherwise they'll assume you just aren't here. I thought we'd get a text when we were ready but they just removed us, but luckily they bumped us back to the top of the list when I got there. PARKING: may be tricky to get right next to it, but there are definitely spots around - street parking - which is free. Overall, I totally recommend this spot if you are in the La Jolla area. And the tacos (Taco Tuesday deal) were tiny and pricey. I believe they were $4.50 each but about half the size of a typical street taco, so most folks would need 5-6 to call it a meal. Worth the Sunday morning wait! We got the mango pancakes that were out of this world and the Monterey omelet was probably the best omelet I've ever had. Staff was super friendly and quick to get us refills as well as get the food out even though the place was packed. Highly recommend trying this place out!! read more

Tasty smoothies with very fresh ingredients (try the Strawberry + Peach, not too sweet, with kale added). Reasonably priced at $6 for a 16 oz. We were visiting La Jolla for a week and had been looking forward to trying this spot for breakfast, especially given the high number of reviews and strong ratings. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations. We arrived around 9am and stood at the hostess stand for a good 5-7 minutes without being acknowledged. When someone finally came over and sat us, we were shocked to find the table still dirty -- there were crumbs everywhere and even the check from the previous guests was still on the table. It made us question whether the table had been cleaned or reset at all. Feeling uncomfortable and frankly disappointed, my husband and I decided to leave. We've never been sat at a dirty table before, and certainly didn't expect that kind of oversight at a place in La Jolla. As we were leaving, we asked to speak with the manager. Instead of a straightforward interaction, we were met with what felt like a game of hot potato -- no one wanted to take accountability, and it seemed like the manager was avoiding coming out. Eventually someone came out claiming to be the manager, and when we explained what happened, her response was simply, "What can I do to make this right?" At that point, the trust was gone. If this is how the front-of-house is run, it raises real concerns about the cleanliness and standards behind the scenes in the kitchen. Honestly, I don't understand how this place has over 4 stars. Love the Yelp waitlist feature. Only waited about 5 min once we checked in. Also appreciate the self serve coffee while we waited. Tried a Bloody Mary, Tahitian French toast and chilaquiles. Bloody Mary was decent and but not mind blowing. The French toast with Chantilly cream was probably one of the best French toast I've ever had. Thick slices with an interesting buttery / eggy vanilla caramelization but still moist interior. The chilaquiles were also very good with a good amount of flavorful carnitas. Came here for lunch by my friend's request. It's located on the corner. Looked like only street parking. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Came here on a weekday for lunch and was able to be seated right away. Customer service was good. Got our menus and drinks in a timely manner. They have two single restrooms available. We ordered: Short rib hash Monterey omelet Goat cheese flat bread Everything tasted good. We came here mostly for the pancakes because my friend was craving. SO delish!! We started with the dark and Mexican mocha (both with almond milk) and these were so creamy and not overwhelmingly sweet. We ordered 2 Eggs, Toast & hash browns and added bacon and the Pork Carnitas Chilaquiles. SO loved the chilaquiles and my eggs plate was super yummy too. Food was cooked basically perfect with the right temperature and served fresh. After the first bite... I realized why the line was going crazy outside!!! We also got The California K-9 for our 3 pups to share and it was cooked super fresh and yummy, even my picky eater daughter was enjoying it. Came here with high hopes based on Yelp reviews, and for the most part they are accurate. We had the carnitas Benedict which was wonderful, and the tahitian French toast, which was equally fabulous. The only disappointment was the Chai latte. I had ordered it with soy milk, but it came with regular milk and a layer of Pdry powdered spice on top. I don't normally complain, I just scooped off the wall of powder. After we paid and were getting ready to leave, they came with my actual drink. There are so many things on the menu I still want to try, we will probably be back. Side note, this place is very close to Scripps, and makes it a great place to wait for a loved one having surgery. place had been recommended by a few friends now, and i finally went for brunch on a sunday, added myself to the yelp waitlist around 10:15am, and got a spot for 2 around 10:30am indoors, so timing was quick and accurate per yelp! finding parking nearby wasn't the easiest but felt a lot easier than finding parking for brunch in la jolla cove!! server was super sweet and attentive and also gave us the option to be seated indoors or outdoors - we chose indoors because it was a heat wave day, and it was nice to be in shade and surrounded by fans. for brunch, was craving savory foods instead of their super unique sweet breakfasts (will do next time!) so ordered the seared salmon & baby kale benedict with hash browns and pork carnitas & poblano cornbread benedict with house potatoes. both were super filling and flavorful. the salmon was a favorite, so so flavorful of salmon!!! my order unfortunately only had one runny egg, and although the other was drier, was still pretty moist and yummy! also, the hash browns definitely outdid the house potatoes here! for drinks, ordered the caffe breve and coconut cortado, the latter of which is a coconut milk made in house. both were delicious - the breve was nice and light, and the the coconut milk for the cortado was quite strong in coconut flavor and sweeter than expected. the other coffees and cocktails looked super good and would definitely want to come back to try the other drinks! as good as this place was, it still didn't land a strong spot as my new go-to brunch spot in sd but it's up there for drinks, wait/reservation system, and if i strongly craved a specific item on their menu, like a salmon benedict or their pancakes and french toast read more

The chai latte was divine for a chilly day (and the nice waiter warmed it up for me as it got to room temp) the lemonade was not too sweet and free refills were a hit with my kid. We got the wild mushroom omelette and split it and they brought it out on two separate plates. The homemade biscuits with butter and jam were worth the extra add on. And the waiter accidentally dropped one of the sausages on our plate and brought out a whole new plate of new sausages so that was nice. The crispy hash browns were delicious. This place is super packed on a weekday for brunch/lunch. I'm super surprised how popular it is. I heard so many great things that I couldn't wait to try their food. Service was good and tentative given all seats were full and packed. I got there late but my friends already waited about 30ish minutes. I couldn't decide the rating of this place so when I come again it might be updated. I decided to rate this a 3 stars in which yelp indicates 'ok'. Specifically for my meal and that there's a wait time to be seated. I ordered the Angus Short Rib & Hash Brown Potato Cakes and well it just looked like what I can whipped up at home. I'm not sure why they called it Potato cakes but it definitely was just super fried hashbrowns with overdone eggs and overdone short rib. If the short rib wasn't so dry it would have been good. Also everything was just dry with no type of seasoning or sauce. I added of course salt and pepper. I definitely expected more. There's four of us and everyone else enjoyed their meal. The portions were perfect sized in that I was satiated but not stuffed after eating. Prices seemed similar to other restaurants, but with a smaller portion size. Relative to how much food we got, it seemed a bit expensive. But maybe portion size and quality ingredients offset each other. Shorehouse Kitchen is located by the beach which makes for a great weekend brunch spot if you want to soak in the sun by La Jolla Shores. They have a Yelp waitlist so you can put your name on it and time it so you can get seated soon after you arrive. Note that your entire party has to be present in order to be seated. One issue is that parking can be difficult to find. There's residential parking throughout the neighborhood and some parking in front of the businesses if you're early or lucky enough. I ordered the angus short rib & hash brown potato cakes ($16.95) which needed a little salt and pepper and hot sauce but was good; the short ribs were very tender. I also tried some of the caramelized tahitian vanilla bean french toast ($16) which was soft and light. The pork carnitas chilaquiles ($16.25) were also good and the sauces were pretty spicy. All of the food was good as was the service. Overall this is a solid brunch spot for a decent price. read more

We stopped by here while visiting UCSD campus. It was the perfect choice. I had the short stack and a side of eggs. The pancakes are a must have, they melt in your mouth. I also liked the dirty chai if you like cinnamon you will enjoy. My son ordered the club sandwich. We had looked at the reviews for sandwiches and were a little apprehensive. First time to Shorehouse and got in without much of a wait Bc of immense rain. But I'd definitely come back again even if we had to wait. The food was very good. We had a wide range at our table of 6, which is a squeeze but can still accommodate and I'm sure when there's no rain it's easier. We had the French toast, pancakes with fruit on top, fried chicken sandwich, grilled cheese, Monterey omelette and the angus beef. All were excellent. Angus meat was tender and flavorful, the brioche for sandwiches and French toast were fluffy and buttery and the hash was a perfect crispiness. They even did the bacon extra crispy. Chicken was tender and everything was a good flavor. I'm not one for too salty so I liked this amount. Service was great. They came by frequently and did all the little things - warmed up syrup, kept the coffee filled, provided nicely individually bottled preservatives, and beautiful latte art :). Waiter was friendly and accommodating and very pleasant guy. Ambiance was nice although it's a small space esp if you cannot use the outdoor patio. Had some subtle sound paneling for the main room, 2 bathrooms anyone can use and a side cafe, coffee section too. Love the natural light and corner location. Now it feels like it's made without care or skill.
