Delicious food and amazing drinks! The staff is kind and I'll always come back. I get the Vietnamese iced coffee and their lemon ricotta pancakes

There's a couple of items available for just about everyone - there were a small number of items that were or could be made vegan and gluten-free, which I appreciated. Not really anything on the breakfast or brunch menu, sadly, but at least there were the rice/noodle bowls that could be made both vegan and gluten-free. I got the sesame tofu salad bowl and it was delicious. (I'm pretty sure it was listed as gluten-free when I was there, but it doesn't seem to be anymore?) It was a decent serving of tofu and made for a nice light brunch. If I'd been hungrier, I'd have also gotten some bubble tea - maybe next time. I will say that it took a while to order - the seating area isn't even really that big but they seemed to not have enough staff to take orders from people dining in and people getting take-out at the same time. Probably didn't help that we were there at near peak brunch time on a Sunday. Non-vegan boyfriend and his brother got pancakes and avocado toast and eggs that they were extremely happy with. They ended up ordering take-out online (while seated at the dine-in tables) and eating it there because it was complicated trying to get their orders taken in person.

    Thai Iced Tea Boba

Great location, super loud music, mediocre service, decent food, tasty Thai iced tea & soft boba. Walked in around 7:30 PM after checking out the vintage store next door. There wasn't anyone at the counter nor a bell to ring so I waited for a bit. Eventually the front register person came out of the restroom and greeted me. I don't expect people to be super bubbly and warm but she was borderline cold and I felt quite unwanted. I ordered a Thai iced tea with boba and a pork belly banh mi. I tried ordering a black sesame boba but they were out, but the Thai iced tea was really yummy. The boba was on the softer side but I didn't mind and it was a nice level of sweetness overall. I'd come for takeout but not to dine-in. I'd also opt for calling in my order ahead of time to save time and my ears.

Short grain is a staple of downtown JC. I have been coming here since I moved over a year ago and have not had one bad thing here. Every time I come, it's consistent and excellent. Highly recommend anything on their menu!

Grabbed a couple of lattes and service was fast and coffee splendid. Prices were fair. Smallmplace with a couple of tables. I would grab and go coffee. Not giving 5 stars yet until I try more things

Although I have lived close to Short Grain at 183 Montgomery Street in Jersey City, today is the first time I had breakfast there. It was quite a delectable experience. I had their Avocado Toast with Fried Egg, Red Onion and Chili Powder and an Iced Latte Coffee. Both were totally amazing and way more than satisfying. The cuisine is Asian / Australian / American fusion. Owner Jon was friendly and hospitable. Indoor and outdoor seating. I highly recommend Short Grain and cannot wait to go back.

Updating my review because...Look at that , I came back for the avocado toast. Short Grain is still A good spot to come get a decent breakfast or lunch. It's more of a take out spot than a sit down place. They have some tables inside but very little And some tables outside. Let's talk about that avocado toast though! Plenty of avocado, feta, and pickled onion. I'm not a fan of sourdough bread so I wish it was on multigrain. However with so much flavor on top you couldn't really taste the bread. Had the granola bowl as well which was packed with blueberries, strawberries, traditional oat granola, yogurt, banana and chia seeds. Loved it. Maybe I'll try a lunch item next time.

    Pork Adobo Sandwich

Pork Belly sandwich at $11 4 stars for the soft and moist pork belly that melts with each bite but not mushy. The bread is the banh mi (Viet sandwich bread) crispy and fresh. The flavor was nicely seasoned with cilantro topping.

Cute little cafe near Grove Street. I got two orders of the chicken curry bowl to go. Cafe is small and has a covered outdoor seating area. There's even a printer for people to come in to have a coffee and print their resumes. I arrived a little early for my pickup order, but the staff immediately got to work on it. The chicken bowl was pretty flavorful, chicken was a little on the dryer end but the sauce made up for it. This seems like a nice place to get some quick healthy and hearty bites to eat, which is a good reprieve from all the burger joints that are popping up overnight in Jersey City. I'll be back to try some of the other dishes and their pastries!

    Tamarind Shrimp Bahn Mi

I loved the charming, simple decor of the interior. So bright, homey, and welcoming. The menu too was a one pager - nothing more annoying to me when you have to scroll through hundreds of options and can't decide what you want. While the appearances are simple however, the food is incredibly and deliciously complex. I got to try only the Tamarind Shrimp Bahn Mi, but the fresh bun with layers of tangy vegetables and spiced shrimp was a firework of colors to experience on a cold Jersey city night. I'll definitely be coming back to try the rest of their menu (HOTCAKES? SERVED ALL DAY ) which is fair priced, quickly served, fresh, and elevated than your typical fare.

I'm so happy I finally checked out this cafe! Came with my sister & ordered an iced coffee, avocado toast & pork sandwich. Ended up sitting outside (their outdoor seating is super nice). I ended up really enjoying the avocado toast the most & the coffee. I think the sauce used in the sandwich was a little overpowering for me but the pork itself was super rich & fatty! Looking forward to coming back & trying more of their menu!

Avocado toast was just okay, coffee lacked flavor, and the small space with a printer by the window was distracting

This was my first time seeing one with roasted duck though. Just a heads up that the street felt a bit sketchy even though it's near the edge of Chinatown. We were unfortunately harassed by someone outside of the store and ended up giving him a few dollar bills... *Chinese Sausage Mala Wrap $10 ** The lap cheong was spread so evenly throughout that I got some in almost every bite. The mala aioli was quite spicy, but not overpowering or lingering. The crispy shallots added such a nice crunch too which I loved! *Duck Tsangwich $16 I was quite surprised that the roast duck skin stayed crispy! The crackly cookie topping could've been thicker since it was pretty flat. They give you chili oil on the side, but it was already super flavorful with the hoisin sauce. Only thing I wished for was more cucumber and scallion to help balance out the richness.

Pretty good. I wished it had a little bit *more* though. The Duck Tsangwich was really tasty, but…read morewhen I was done with it I was left thinking "that's it?" It was heavy on the duck, but actually a rather small sandwich, and with not that much room for any of the other toppings, so I didn't get a great sense of the mix of flavors. It kinda just felt like I was eating a bolo bao with some duck. Does that make sense? You know how a grilled cheese sandwich does not taste like eating bread and a piece of cheese, like how there's a special new thing that gets created when you make food that specific way? I didn't get that from this sandwich. It felt like I was eating two separate things in one bite instead of an interesting new thing. That's maybe too critical but the ingredients were really exciting, I just wish they were tuned differently.
