We enjoyed a great breakfast at Shorties prior to heading to Busch Gardens for the day (only 10 minutes away). The service was awesome, plenty of smiles to go around. The food was just as great. The pancakes were huge (no I mean really huge) and fluffy. The breakfast sandwich on the buttermilk biscuit was delicious. The place was filled with local residents. Good old Yelp didn't steer us wrong!!! We stopped by Shorty's for breakfast before taking the drive home from Williamsburg, choosing it as a result of Yelp ratings and its proximity to where we were staying. They have a decent but relatively basic no-frills sort of menu... nothing fancy. Wifey had the cream chipped beef on rye toast, and it was tasty and B-I-G huge! I opted to try the biscuits and gravy, as well as a country ham biscuit. The former was again of massive size-- two big fluffy biscuits and an above average but not great sausage gravy... I prefer my sausage gravy spicier, and with more taste. The country ham biscuit was quite different, as the ham was very thin sliced and piled between the biscuit halves, rather than being the usual thicker style. Pretty good overall, but I again prefer mine heartier and bolder (read: saltier)! The coffee was about average, and flowed freely. Props to the staff, from top to bottom. The waitresses are friendly and efficient, and help one another out-- a big plus in my book! The owner not only keeps an eye on things, but pitches in. Clientele appeared to be a good mix of regular locals (always a good sign!), business types trying to sell time shares to clients, and tourists. The food is amazing. I had the country fried steak breakfast two days in a row and its the best I've ever had. Staff is extremely bubbly and welcoming. The only thing from keeping me from giving the joint 5 stars is each day I had an issue. the first day I brought 20+ people and they were able to get us all seated around each other in a reasonable amount of time, this was great. We had a 12 year old with a major gluten allergy and asked our server for eggs, hash brown and bacon but that it has to be watched over because of the allergy- she didn't know what gluten was or how to discuss this with the chef. After explaining it three times calmly she asked if we wanted bread with the breakfast or a muffin. Then after speaking to the kitchen came back and told us they are too busy to accommodate this request and that she can have a salad for breakfast. I tried to explain that the three things take no more than a few minutes to prepare and only need a pan to themselves and a salad for breakfast was unacceptable but no one was having it. At one point a lady said she would go in the back and do it herself and she did, and we thank her for this. The second day the kitchen gave me my boyfriends eggs (over easy) which weren't cooked at all, the white of the egg was still clear and he got mine over medium which came out over hard. I would come back in a heartbeat but I hope the little issues get sorted out. read more

I was in a hurry for breakfast and worried I didn't have time for a sit down. The parking lot was full yet I went in just to check the wait. I was seated and eating a great breakfast in less than ten mins. The food was ample to overboard and done right. If there were more than five stars I would have given them a higher grade. read more

Very busy restaurant with friendly service. Food doesn't have a lot of flavor. Tried French toast, country fried steak with gravy and philly steak sandwich. The only thing out of all was the philly steak. If your wanting to go for girls with short skirts this is the place. If your looking for good food I would try some place else. read more

This place is great for when you want tasty breakfast food or sandwiches and burgers. The staff are friendly but may result in some ankle kicking from your significant other (don't say I didn't warn you). The portions are generous and at decent prices. The country fried steak that I had was cooked well, fork tender, with plenty of gravy. Definitely worth the pit stop of you're in the area. My only lament is that they don't do some of the other diner favorites like meatloaf, turkey, etc. I imagine that has more to do with the kitchen size...pretty sure it used to be a Pizza Hut....than anything else. Definitely not due to lack of demand, the place is always packed (but strangely not much of a wait thanks to the staff that are kicking butt and maintaining a high turn-over). read more

Stopped here before heading to Water Country USA. Typical diner. Huge pancakes, yummy french toast, side of sausage was just 2 links. Average prices, not particularly cheap but something different than a chain. I heard the corned beef hash was good if you're into that. We liked Southern Pancake & Waffle better, but they are comparable. read more

The food was good nothing to write home about but good. Great for the prices I guess. My problem was the staff!!! Super sweet waitresses dressed poorly for a place that's open 6am-2pm. Staff bar I get it skimpy tanks tops and short skirts are ok for a bar open til 2am but a breakfast joint?!!?!?! I was almost uncomfortable with how little clothes these girls had on!!!! I'd rather my daughter be a stripper and make stripped money than wait tables here for $2 something an hour!!! It made a big impression on my experience read more

The only reason I can't give this place five stars is because of the way the waitresses dress. They wear very tight shirts with their cleavage showing. I have never been to Hooters, but I imagine this is what it is like. What a shame that they think this is what will drawl people instead of their food. read more
