UPDATE (2/18/18): We came back to give it another try. Same results: great food, once it arrived. It took more than an hour for three breakfast meals to arrive. By the time we left, we'd been there more than two hours. Even our waitress came by at the hour mark and said, "Still no food?! Im so sorry." I'm not sure the kitchen is staffed well enough to accommodate the number of patrons. Not sure we'll be back again - the wait for food is just far too long. -------- PREVIOUS VISIT: For those that don't want to read the entire review, here is my overall take: Locally sourced food at reasonable prices, but be prepared to wait (for the food, not the table). We spent 2 hours there (not by choice). Go for the specialties, or something outside the box; if you're looking for basic breakfast platters, you're better off at the G Lodge. Pancakes were just "okay," littered with pockets of raw flour throughout - Anna Marie's still takes the cake in this category (see what I did there?) I ordered the Dutch Style Omelet with Kielbasa and Pepper Jack - phenomenal. Highly recommend. Will we go back? Yes, but not on a weekend, and not for the basic platters or pancakes. 5+ people recommended Shorty's Sunflower after an inquiry on Facebook for local breakfast spots. We arrived at 9:15a on a Sunday, and were seated within 20 minutes (not bad). Plenty of comfortable spots to wait, both inside and out. The restaurant is pretty big, larger than you would expect... But the entryway and counter are a bottleneck. We were seated in a comfortable booth surrounded by some great artwork. Our server brought out water and coffee within the first five minutes seated, and took our order about another five minutes after that. I ordered the Dutch Style Omelet with Kielbasa and Pepper Jack, my wife and daughter both ordered the Deluxe Breakfast: two scrambled eggs, rye toast, bacon (crispy), and home fries. We also ordered one "Big Original" Buttermilk Pancake, and a side of sausage for the table. After 45 minutes (and only one coffee and water refill), our food arrived. (Little did we know we'd be committing an entire morning to this restaurant). My order was great, other than the random piece of lettuce - the result of sloppy plating. Kielbasa was FANTASTIC! Both my wife's and daughter's bacon was greasy and limp, and their scrambled eggs crunchy (likely cooked in cast iron without enough oil or fat). The bacon was sent back and returned a few minutes later, the same pieces - a bit crispier, but still not done properly. (NOTE: this is not unique to Shorty's, as many restaurants do not cook bacon properly). The sausage was regular Italian Sausage - not breakfast sausage (but still good), butterflied and cooked a tad over (not really juicy). Typically, I love the outer edge of pancakes. When cooked properly, they're crunchy and buttery on the outside and moist and soft on the inside. The edge of our pancake was dense and chewy. The center was much fluffier and moist, except for the many pockets of salty, uncooked flour. Overall, a bit dry and totally average. I finally got that coffee refill, but waited 10 minutes for more cream (it was crowded, so the servers were very busy). Overall, the specialty dish was DELICIOUS, and the wait to be seated wasn't that bad at all. The wait to receive food was way too long, and the basic dishes left something to be desired. I'm sure we'll be back, but maybe earlier in the morning or on a weekday, and we'll try more special offerings. I respect what they're doing here, and really hope our next experience is better. read more

Food is delicious and unique for this area. At times you can wait a bit for your food to be delivered, but then again this is a small restaurant with a small kitchen. The short wait is absolutely worth your time. There isn't any place around here that I would compare to Shorty's. They never have the same specials and the jam/jelly is made from scratch. They only accept cash as payment. No big deal for me, but some people don't carry any cash at all. read more

We waited 45 min to get a table, it didn't seem that busy, waited almost 30 min for our food, breakfast items. My eggs were over cooked, pancakes under cooked, as well as the home fries. My bacon, idk. Never got it. My partners food was the same. Not worth the wait, most disappointing and overpriced brunch I've had. read more

We had my daughter's shower here this past weekend. I can't say enough great things about them!!! It was so well done, from their help and accommodations to anything we asked for, to the great service we received. Julie is terrific and so nice - all the guests commented on how great she is! Liz has a wonderful catering business, and she earned the crowds she gets. Great menu selections - and the food was wonderful! I heard from people with all four entrée selections, and everyone was pleased. My sisters want to go back for lunch soon. I'm so glad that we had the shower at the Sunflower - so memorable! Where do I start. It's all in a name, Shortys, short on taste, originality, and ambiance. Dirty vent covers, rickety tables, and sticky store brand syrup bottles. If this gets good ratings from the locals, then you're in a bad horror movie and these zombies don't know good eats. This is one for dumpsters and dumps. Had the flying Dutchman, he didn't pass flight school. And tried the oatmeal pancakes, on the dry side so needed plenty of syrup from that sticky bottle to coax them down. read more

Sunflower Cafe is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Pottstown. The atmosphere is slightly hipster like you are in a hip part of Philly. The menu items are fresh and seasonal...thoughtful and delicious. I found this great place this past November. It is a really cute little cafe. I've read some of these reviews and have to disagree about some of the issues mentioned. Service is excellent at Shorty's! They are quick to refill beverages, especially coffee. The food is spectacular. I've had regular (boring) items like bacon and eggs that you can get anywhere, but then I've also had their dirty egg roll and zucchini bread which is good. I usually go there on weekends and order their breakfast enchilada special which is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Every week it's different and seems better than the last. The cafe is also very clean and they are quick to bus tables. Suggestions for visiting: - Bring cash, no credit cards accepted - Expect to wait for a table if you come later in the morning/afternoon (it's a small quaint cafe) - Order off the specials menu (you can't find the items anywhere else and chef Nate is quite imaginative!!) - It may take up to 20 minutes to get your food, but it will be well worth the wait!! We've been fans of the Crab Dip Melt since your food truck days at the Phoenixville Farmer's Market. When I saw that it was on your takeout menu, we decided to give it a try. This place is sooooo good! They have interesting spins on classic foods. It's not run of the mill things you've eaten a million times, it's much better than that. Went here for breakfast and we loved it. Excellent food and service. Our waitress Jules was very attentive and friendly. Chocolate chip pancakes were great- homemade jelly was excellent too. If you are up to waiting then this place is for you. I have no problem waiting on a Saturday morning, but after waiting for 30+ minutes I don't expect to wait another 40 minutes for 4 plates of food. If the food is great then waiting is worth it, but the food was terrible with under cooked pancakes, an omelette that was full of dead veggies, and marginal french toast. Silver lining here is that our server was friendly and did a good job considering the disorganization. The "special" coffee was tasty and plentiful too. I will not return. read more

We love this breakfast and lunch place. Their pancakes are out of this world. Actually, I have never had a bad thing to say about this place. It is extremely popular. You could wait an hour for food, which for some is fine, but could be problematic if you have small kids. My recommendation is to go early when they open or more towards lunch. I've got to confess, I don't normally give out compliments too easy, but this place is well deserving. The cooks constantly come up with innovative ways to present you different mash ups of traditional breakfast fare. Staff is friendly and up for conversation. You must try: Baked oatmeal Homemade zucchini bread with their homemade jam Kielbasa Dirty egg roll Offers great outdoor seating for those beautiful summer days. This place was good when it first opened, but in the past few years, i am consistantly disappointed, so i give up. This final trip: Wait time was short, 10 minutes on a busy sunday. -super uncomfortable make-shift bench seating... painful -promptly took our order, great! Friendly wait staff -waited about an hour for food....... got there just afterr 11, food served at 12 -flies in our syrup bottle... like, 5 fruit flies, because their syrup bottles are just open squeeze bottles... we were given a new one when we asked but blech...also lots of fruit flies buzzing around -french toast special was good. But it wasnt really french toast, so much as a cake- streussel type thing with ridiculously sweet raspberry sauce over it. -friends got the enchilada breakfast special...typically enchiladas have some type of sauce on them, these did not, but they were tasty. -the decorating is tacky. Its like my 4th grade neice put her art projects up on the wall, and someone let her paint the sticky tables...merrrr Bring back the Cowboy breakfast, re-vamp and simplify your decor, and hire an exterminator and faster cooks. read more

We come frequently and usually have no complaints about the food. It's never write-home-and-tell-yo-folks good, but it's also not bad. The kitchen is VERY slow on weekends and there is frequently a very long wait to get a table. The waitresses are very attentive though (frequent coffee refills). Just be prepared for a slower pace dining experience. read more

Not a good morning at the sunflower - our usual place let us down big time today! Ordered our toddlers food early so she would be content, but 20 min later her pancakes arrived with our entrees. The food - usual star of the experience was warm, bland and disappointing! My daughter had the banana pancakes on special - we were expecting bananas IN the pancakes not just the regular with some bananas on top - not worth 7dollars! I had the dirty egg roll - just warm, bland, think they forgot the cheese too. My husband had the breakfast enchilada was too warm and bland - garnished beautifully though, too bad it was flavorless! My husband (and friends!) LOVE to come here for breakfast. The food is always delicious, service is always great, and the atmosphere is good. I also always enjoy checking out the local artwork. The only reason I left out a star is because you have to go super early or a little later to avoid the breakfast rush, as it is a small place. Also because it is cash payment only.
