I came here for a lunch with my team. I didn't order anything as someone else had ordered for all of us, but I really enjoyed everything I tried (a lot of it being Indian dishes that I was not familiar with). The service was pretty good, they were very attentive to us (we had a large group) and they even did a little performance with dry ice that was really fun. Absolutely blown away by this place! The food is next-level--authentic Indian flavors with creative twist that actually work. We tried several chicken, lamb and vegetarian dishes which were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. The cocktails were just as impressive with interesting names. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the drinks, not just the food. The ambience was warm and inviting, with just the right mix of modern and traditional. Great vibes for a date night or a fun dinner with friends. And the service? Impeccable. The staff was friendly, helpful, and made great recommendations without being pushy. Shosha means to "show off" and this restaurant does just that! Each dish is uniquely presented using molecular gastronomic techniques and is a multi-sensory experience. Located in Downtown Sunnyvale, Shosha is definitely a hidden gem! The interior of the restaurant is quite ornate and decorative. They also have a really nice full bar! For appetizers, the Dahi Papadi Chaat is definitely a great way to start the meal. This is an elevated version of the street delicacy and is a stunningly presented dish. Plus, it has savory dahi bhalla ice cream on top! Pani Puri Shots are my favorite, but these were definitely the coolest ones I've ever had! It comes in a stand overflowing with liquid nitrogen smoke and comes with three different flavored waters. Chicken 65 Tikka was another highlight. The chicken is tender and very tasty. The Flambe Tandoori Chicken is also a sight to see! They light it on fire!! The Butter Chicken is like no other butter chicken I've had before! Instead of whole pieces of meat, the chicken breast is pulled and formed into balls, fried, and placed in a rich yet sweet gravy. This is definitely an unexpected but enjoyable dish! We went for my birthday lunch buffet today. The person received us and asked if we've a reservation. I'd reserved a table but he was reluctant to make us seated. After a couple of back and forth, he told you need to pay first to be seated. We'd a elderly couple with us, if he would've made it clear in the first go, it would've saved us some time. And I didn't expect pay upfront setup from a fine dining place like Shosha. Secondly, coming to live counter. We were informed of the counter being present outside, when we reached there- no one was present to serve. I'd to go in again and request for a server outside. The starters and chats were tasty. The main course was not hot, room temperature. I expected and prefer eating hot food. The breads were served hot. Desserts spread can be better. The jalebi was cold. We went here in Mother's Day. They booked us for a 10.30 am brunch appt only for us to find out upon arriving that they are not prepared to open. It was awkward for us to watch them be under prepared with everyone walking around circles in front of us. Food - the waiter was very eager with recommendations which we went with. Our expectations from Sosha were unfortunately too high. The restaurant delivers well on "magic", with the experience, and have an excellent support staff that ensure the service is top notch. The food however disappoints, which at this price tag isn't worth it. We started our meal with the Pani Puri Shots, while it had the pizzazz of presentation, the dish majorly lacked any taste. Our favorites amongst the curtain raisers were - Chicken 65 Tikka and Seekh Kabab. The former being spicy but delicious, the later mastered to perfection. Do try their Mirchi Pyaaz Ki Roti. ShoSha means show off in Punjabi, and Shosha definitely deserves a round of applause for their beautiful and modern take on traditional Indian cuisine. Using molecular gastronomy techniques and authentic ingredients imported from India, the chef at Shosha creates incredible works of culinary art that make your eyes and your mouth very very happy. I have no words to describe how impressed I was with the entire tasting menu that I tried. Every dish was so truly unique and immaculately prepared, and I absolutely loved the strong emphasis on traditional Indian spices throughout their entire menu. Among some of my favorites (although to be fair I LOVED everything I tried): flambé tandoori chicken: super unique take on one of my favorite Indian dishes! They light the chicken on fire in front of you, which results in a subtle, smoky flavor. karam podi lamb chop: I'm typically not a super big fan of lamb, but I would highly recommend this dish! The spices mask the naturally gamey smell and taste of the meat, which is seriously so tender and cooked to perfection. butter chicken: again, a really unique take on another one of my favorite Indian dishes. The chicken is deconstructed into a fried meatball, which is served with a sauce that emphasizes a rich, sweet, and sour taste profile. Meen moilee: a lovely and fragrant yellow curry made with a rare spice blend from the southern coast of India, coconut-milk, and white fish fillets. Highly recommend if you want a lighter dish! We came here on a Tuesday evening to celebrate our anniversary. So, the first thing the staff of the restaurant does when they come to your table is to explain that Shosha means "showoff". True to their claim, the presentation and plating of the food really is quite nice. We ordered jackfruit bao and Chicken Malai Tikka for appetizers, jackfruit bao was a 2 star was it anywhere near to what we where expecting. It no where close to the said india dish "dabeli". Chicken malai tikka was a 4 star. Tasted really yummy. For main course we got butter chicken with a side of onion kulcha and Spinach Cheddar Cheese Kulcha it was a 4 star as well. However, for the amount of money we spent (65$ per person for a meal of average quantity, including drinks, we definitely didnt gorge ourselves), it didn't feel special enough or particulary worth it, I've had better service at other high end Indian restaurants in the bay. From ease of reserving table for two, being seated right away and food served instantaneously, I can't find a single thing to complain about this business on my first visit last night. Upon arrival, I noticed the inside of the restaurant was filled with customers and even more diners out in the patio. I didn't get the name of the server, but he was consistently checking on our table and was courteous. We started off ordering our drinks. My guest chose a beer and I, the Goa Connection. Mine was pretty sweet (Rosé being the main poison). I was impressed with the presentation-- another waiter had smoked it in front of me, where it grew a huge bubble on the rim of the cup and after a few seconds, burst into thick white smoke and dissolved into this pretty cocktail. Sweet, but not overwhelming. The drink menu seems worthwhile coming back for as well as the rest of the menu. Tonight we ordered lightly and tried the Tandoori Salmon and it was prepared nicely. Panipuri - Presented very well with a variety of pani. 2. Chicken Malai Kabab - Finally found a restaurant that made this dish right. The chicken was marinated well. 3. Kali Mirch Chicken - As the name suggests, had a nice peppery flavor to it, and very tender. 4. Chicken Tikka Lababdar - This tasted similar to the regular chicken tikka I have had before. I preferred the Kali Mirch Chicken 5. Paneer Kulcha - Very soft with a generous amount of flavorful stuffing. Complimented the chicken very well. Would definitely want to dine here again. I have been eyeing Shosha for so long, my only regret is that we put off dining here as long as we did because WOW. I was not expecting to be completely blown away by an amazing dining experience on what we thought would be a relatively casual dining experience on a Wednesday night. Not only does Shosha look Michelin star worthy but the food is as gorgeous as it is delicious. The best thing is that the food isn't precious - the portions are substantial, comforting and filling and packed full of flavor. The menu is so vast, I think even ordering the number of dishes we did, we'd have to be back at least two or three more times to try everything.. but do trust the challenge is accepted :) The drinks, by the way, rival any specialized cocktail bar - they're so well developed, unique in their flavors and absolutely phenomenal. We may have had every cocktail on the 'special' menu... The owner was right there the entire time and she's a lovely, friendly woman. All of the servers are so friendly and have wonderful recommendations if you don't know where to start. We definitely took our time and didn't feel rushed and it was so lovely of them to scoot over an additional table once they deduced that the number of dishes we ordered would make us feel crowded at our four top - how amazing is that? Another thing worth noting is a family with a toddler came in at 9 15pm - the servers were quick to offer a high chair and didn't hesitate in seating them despite the later hour, this is so very non-standard for the Bay Area and refreshing because one doesn't particularly expect such a courtesy after 9. After hearing about this place a LOT, finally ended up there for lunch. Got a table outside and we were seated in a few minutes. Ordered Pani Puri shots, Crispy Hara Patta Chaat for appetizers. The shots arrived quickly and were great. It was definitely fun watching it! The spinach chaat was probably forgotten and did not arrive till we reminded them twice. When it arrived, it was cold and the pakoras were super hard. Did not enjoy it as much. Asked the server to get a piece of paper to keep the toddler occupied; that never arrived till the end of the meal. The servers were forever confused and kept asking everyone the table number when they arrived with the food. Strange for a fine dine restaurant. For mains we got the butter paneer, paneer kulcha and mirchi pyaaz ki roti. They were all delicious and glad they were served warm. Recommend the butter paneer for sure! They were out of desserts save the gulab jamun ice cream. Got that, it was great! Super delicious! Overall, good food, great ambience inside but TERRIBLE customer service. This place would have been 4-5 stars had it not been for 2 HUGE issues: 1)There is absolutely ZERO social distancing inside. When we arrived it was still early and there was only one other party inside. We opted for sitting inside because we thought they might seat us further away from the table. We were wrong. At least there was some distance. But what made the whole situation worse is when they seated a couple at a table for two next two us, and those the couple opted to sit next to each other rather than across. The woman's purse was literally touching mine and it made the whole situation super uncomfortable. 2)I'm not sure if the bartender is also a manager, but that dude kept on talking down to our waiter and just commandeering the people around instead of making drinks. Our first round of drinks came after our appetizers even though we placed the cocktail order first. We were seated directly across from the bar so I could see that he was not focused on making the drinks. That said, the cocktails were BOMB! Recommendation: please be mindful that the patrons can observe you. Treat your staff with respect and get us our drinks quicker so we can oder more. Other than that, I thought they put a lot of thought in making it a memorable dining experience both from the food and service perspective. The dishes were interesting and our party enjoyed (almost) all of them: -White tomato soup: the soup itself had an interesting flavor. Unfortunately, the garlic crisp that was served with it was very burnt which made it taste bitter. Also the soup was hard to eat:it was too hot to drink from the cup and using the spoon to get the soup out of a tall glass was awkward. I'd skip this dish -The butter chicken dish was great. The sauce is a bit sweeter than I'm used to, but still good. As for the chicken itself, they use shredded white meat that they deep fry into these crispy balls. The meat was surprisingly juicy and the added shell crunch was great. -Garlic Naan was amazing -White rice is HUGE. Great value and awesome to mix it with the sauces. I came here on Thursday for Diwali and was excited to check this place out after seeing pictures and reading a few reviews. This spot is in the middle of downtown sunnyvale and when you walk in you notice it immediately stands apart from the other food options with its interior design. It's simply beautiful and clear that expenses were not spared on that front. I made reservations in advance and we were able to get seated right away even though we were running a little late. We were in a corner of the restaurant and unfortunately found the table placement terrible. Waiters kept bumping into the back of my chair trying to get to the next table and I was pretty close to the table behind me. As for the food, I enjoyed the appetizers. We got the pani puri shots and the aloo chaat which were both tasty and fun! I loved, the flight of pani options which included a mango one which I found unique. As for the main, we tried the dank bungalow chicken which was a much smaller portion than I expected for the price. It wasn't bad but nothing to rave home about. For dessert we tried the gulab jamun ice cream which ended up being quite grainy/gritty texture-wise and wasn't my taste even though I'm a huge fan of jamun. The wait staff was a bit insistent on drinks (which we ended up ordering) and also seemed a bit all over the place in terms of checking in on us, but understandable for a new restaurant. Lastly, I didn't check the menu before arriving so one of the first things I noticed was it was pretty oddly priced in my opinion. Entrees varied greatly and price and the desserts and appetizers felt overpriced in comparison. I felt like I was paying SF/city prices but in sunnyvale and for service that wasn't that tight/put together. Overall, I'd be willing to try this place again, but I definitely plan to wait a few months when things are running more smoothly. I left a five star review here after my first visit, and I stand by that review for my first visit, but my second experience there makes me feel compelled to update my review. As I predicted, you now need a reservation to get a seat on a Friday night. My friend and I visited at this time. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Once we were seated we immediately noticed that the staff was disorganized - we were served by multiple servers, and the communication between servers and their communication with the kitchen seemed to be a bit off. We received two amuse bouches - we're not complaining about this, because those amuse bouches were just as good the second time, but it was just the tip of the disorganized iceberg. It took a while, maybe about 20 minutes, before we were able to order. When we placed our order, I asked whether the Suhag Raat dessert could be made without nuts, and if not, we'd order something else. I mentioned that my friend had a nut allergy to almonds, pistachios, cashews, etc (naming those three specifically). The server told us that there was a separate female part and male part, and that the female part could be made without nuts, so we decided to order it. We also ordered the paneer kulcha, rose lassi, chocolate lassi, flambee tandoori chicken, garlic naan, alu tuk pops and pani poori shots. The lassi came out within a few minutes. It was thick and delicious, and served in pretty cool engraved silver glasses. The rose flavor tasted like natural rosewater, and the chocolate in the chocolate lassi was actually a shaved chocolate bar. It was also interesting to taste the shavings of the chocolate bar inside the lassi. However, The first course took at least another 30-45 minutes to arrive. It was the chicken. My friend said it tasted good and that the quality was good. We also got the Alu Tuk pops around this time. My Kulcha and the garlic naan arrived about 20 minutes after that. The kulcha was not as good as last time - it was stuffed with a lot less paneer. This was disappointing, especially since I was looking forward to the generously stuffed kulcha that I had last time. The garlic naan was not bad - same as last time. The last item to arrive before dessert, after another 20-30 minutes, was the pani poori shots. What should have been an appetizer came a long time after the entree. It was creative and tasted good, but I was disappointed that I didn't get them until all the way at the end. The biggest disappointment of all was how the dessert was handled. After our Pani Poori shots, I managed to get the attention of one of our servers (rare, because throughout the rest of the meal, it was difficult to get the attention of the servers), and he said the dessert would be out shortly. I confirmed that the female part of the dessert was being made without nuts, and he said it was. After another 30-40 minutes, the chef finally came out with 2 suhag raats. one for our table, and one for the other. Normally, if there were no allergy restrictions, and had I gotten the dessert 30 minutes earlier, it would have been a great experience - the chef himself comes out, tells a story about suhag raat traditions, and says how he incorporated those traditions into his dish. It's a nice story and a nice message, and he sprinkles dried rose petals across the table as a final flourish to what would otherwise have been a great dish. Except...IT. HAD. NUTS. In both the male and female parts of the dish. Touching each other. When we asked the Chef about our request for no nuts in the dish, he was like "well...there are nuts." In particular, there were almonds. Which I specifically mentioned at the beginning of the meal that my friend was allergic to. And mentioned again after the pani poori shots, 30 minutes before the dessert came out. I was very upset about this, especially because I informed the staff multiple times about the nut allergy. Consequently, I ended up having my Suhag Raat by myself :( My feedback based on my experience is: 1. Hire more staff or seat fewer patrons at a time, so that patrons are not kept waiting for a really long time for their food. This can easily turn an otherwise delicious culinary experience sour, and can result in bitter customers. I docked one star for the excessively long wait times. 2. Emphasize to the staff the importance of checking and double checking food for allergens, and emphasize the importance of honestly disclosing whether or not a dish can be made without the allergen. Dish contains almonds? Can the almonds not be removed? No problem, as long as you tell me in advance so that I can order another dessert. On the flip side, if a customer has an allergic reaction based on your staff's representation, it could present a serious problem. 3. 3.5 STARS Shosha means "show off". If you like being wow'd or flexin' on social media, Shosha is the place for you! The only thing I have to flex is my turkey neck arm so I'm just here for the food... Shosha serves Modern Indian Cuisine with a molecular gastronomy flair. Reminds me of SpiceKlub but with a stunning, panty-droppin' dining room. I wanted to see how Shosha compares to Modern Indian restaurants in the Bay Area like Rooh, Ettan, SpiceKlub, Besharam, and August1Five (now closed) so I wanted to give it a try. I read reviews that they get very busy during dinner so opted for lunch (same menu). Glad I did because it was very quiet and there were no long lags with food service. Indoor and outdoor dining (dog-friendly). The street is closed off to cars which is a big plus when dining outdoors. Reservations available on OpenTable. I made one for Saturday lunch but it wasn't really necessary if you eat before noon. Some staff wore masks, some didn't. Sunnyvale is THE place to go for all sorts of regional Indian food. But, there's nothing fancy and progressive like Shosha in Sunnyvale. They have potential but I think they need improvement for a fine dining restaurant that they're aiming to be. I hope they take this as constructive feedback. M E N U The menu emulates a performance but its comes off confusing with sections like "curtain raiser", "supporting cast", "collabs", and "climax". Given it's DT Sunnyvale, I think the menu items could use better descriptions for those not familiar with Indian cuisine. For those with allergies, I noticed that ingredients made an appearance but weren't stated on the menu. Lastly, the QR code wasn't working so we were given one menu to share with some marks/stains. Usually, I wouldn't care but as a fine dining restaurant, the menu should be better presented. Full bar. The mint aioli was very mayo-ey tasting. * Pani Puri Shots (6 pc - $12): https://bit.ly/3DGgq8a Served with a roaring fog on top (dry ice), the pani puri was just ok. The puri (fried hollow balls) was nice and crunchy but the flavored waters (shots) could use more punchy flavors. * Dahi Papadi Chaat w/ dahi bhalla (lentil) ice cream ($18): https://bit.ly/3DG9U0P My fav chaat of the two because wow...I mean look at all those vibrant colors! And, it tasted as good as it looked. The papadi (wheat crackers) were thick, crunchy, and held up well to the chutneys, yoghurt, and savory lentil ice cream. I really enjoyed the contrasting textures and temperatures, and sweet, sour, savory, and tangy flavors. That pomegranate made this dish pop. Literally. * Keema Pav: Minced lamb stuffed in bread w/ edible soil ($18): https://bit.ly/3DSpuqD Standout dish, loved this creative take on keema pav. It was delivered with a glass dome infused with smoke. The rich, savory minced lamb was stuffed in a thin bread, rolled up like cigars, then pan-fried. Deliciously crunchy and satisfying with the edible soil for extra crunch. The flavorful lamb packed good warming spice so the dots of chutney was a nice cooling element. GET THIS! * Chicken Tikka Masala ($25): https://bit.ly/3lECJ7G Ok, I know I'm a basic b*tch for ordering this but I wanted to see how they execute a classic Indian dish. Arguably, the best part of CTM is that rich, velvety smooth, mouth-watering gravy. I was disappointed that the BOH let this out of the kitchen. The gravy was curdled, broken, and oily....the taste and texture was like a spicy, chunky marinara sauce. The chicken breast pieces were super tender and moist (sous-vide?) but the gravy ruined it. When I told our server, I was told they'll let the kitchen know but that was it. * Garlic Naan ($5.50) The garlic naan was standard. Golden brown spots with crispy edges and a good chew. Could have used more garlic flavor. S E R V I C E Cordial but serious. Water was offered to TT which I always appreciate. Since we were the only table there, food service was prompt (in/out in 45 minutes). When we dined last weekend, the outdoor area looked uninviting with plain tables and retro wicker chairs in a white tent. Glad to see they have since revamped it with pretty new rose gold chairs and did away with the tent. P A R K I N G Easy street parking; two parking lots in back of Murphy (free). But, beware of the Farmer's Market on Saturdays. Overall, I'm happy to see Shosha bringing something new, exciting, and innovative to Sunnyvale. Birthday celebrations continued as we explored Shosha (means show off in Hindi ) is all about! Truly, after a loooong time we enjoyed some great Indian cuisine, ambience and of course with some "show off" moments Located amidst many other restaurants, it's welcoming and we did make a last minute reservation to get a spot for early dinner 6.45pm. Welcomed with non consumable concoction (I believe it had jal jeera spices), to welcome prepare for some immersive dining experience! Cocktails: loved their Calcutta paan cocktail, a bourbon infused with Calcutta paan, some coconut rum, rose shaped ice cube, and bottled shaken in cherrywood smoke! Appetizer: complementary Indian version of bread stick, nice flaky breadsticks with some yummy creamy chutney dip. Chutney dusted paneer tikka(veg)- this was so yumm every bite Tandoori machli (pomfret fish) - this is whole grilled spiced fish which was again very tasty(spicy) Breads; tried variety of 'em; mirchi roti( awesome) cheese spinach, onion kulcha (best) Curries; mirch paneer masala, they recommended smoky baingan bharta another yummy curry. Also tried paneer tikka masala(creamy mild yet flavorful), and heard butter chicken (a twist here, pulled chicken breast balls dipped in creamy curry) was finger lickin! Accompanied by some jeera rice and climaxed with some hot gulab jamun with rose petal ice cream Overall a great dining experience, tad pricey and great to celebrate occasion or want to treat yourself with some fine Indian cuisine! Service was outstanding with frequent checkins, and quick service and takeaway boxes for leftovers! This restaurant is incredibly disrespectful and I sincerely hope nobody spends their hard earned money there. My wife and I went to the restaurant for dinner on Saturday night. We had checked open table earlier and given there was a lot of open available slots the whole night, decided to walk in at 7:50pm. When we asked for a table for 2, the staff told us the restaurant was booked completely the rest of the night both indoor and outdoor, even though we saw 4 table of 2's open. We then checked open table (see screenshot below) and there were so many open reservation slots left for both indoor and outdoor. Since we were turned down, we left the restaurant only to see 5 tables that were completely available outdoors. This was the most disrespectful restaurant l've ever been to so don't bother giving a cent of your money here!!! read more
