I have heard about Showmars when in the Charlotte area. We love Greek food and wanted to eat lunch in the area. It is a very popular place, but everything was moving smoothly and quickly. You order at the counter, then a staff member brings the food to the table. My son had the small pita and rice. I had the gyro and greek salad. Everything was delicious. I was glad to see small portions of regular items instead of a basic kid's menu. The gyros are full of meat and the veggies on them were fresh. I loved the Greek salad. There's a Charlotte address in my history of residences, so I was familiar with Showmars long before they arrived in Winston-Salem. Thus I knew what to expect when I dropped in for lunch at what I believe used to be the Tijuana Flats location on South Stratford. For those less familiar with the chain, Showmars is a CLT-based mesh of Greek food with Southern influences and an emphasis on speed. It's not meant to be fancy, nor is it an honest reflection of Greek cuisine (though neither are many of the other Greek restaurants in this area). Order at the counter, take your number with you, and soon after the food will arrive. I sampled the gyro pita, which isn't bad, though there's better to be found. I found the tzatziki especially lacking in flavor. But again, this isn't supposed to be gourmet Greek. Rather, it's an affordable and quick way to eat something that isn't run of the mill fast food. And the quality of service represents that. At least three times during my brief visit, an attendant checked to see what I might need: drink refills, extra napkins, etc. So go in with reasonable expectations about the food, and I think you'll come away giving this place a thumbs up. read more

I heard the show was coming and now that it's here, I'm actually impressed. Touted as a Southern Greek restaurant, Showmars is a chain out of Charlotte that took over the old Tijuana Flats space (RIP salsa bar) in the Hanes Towne Shopping Center off Stratford Rd. I'm not sure how Greek this place is, but the menu has Greek salad as a side, souvlaki, gyro pita and platter, Santorini chicken pita with grilled peppers, onions and tzatziki sauce. They also have burgers in pitas, fried seafood plates, salads and chicken tenders. Mediterranean food is my favorite cuisine on the planet but before exploring the Greek options on the menu (I'm really into trying the gyro next time), I just had to try the seafood. Popcorn shrimp speaks to me like no other item from the sea and the flounder is advertised as being sustainable, so I really could not resist. I got the Flounder and Shrimp platter which comes with 2 sides. I opted for crinkle fries (although the salt and pepper tater tots seemed interesting) and cole slaw--It is not listed on the menu board but it appears in the carousel of spinning photos on the digital menu. I ordered it,a 1/2 sweet/unsweetened tea all to go and before I got a good look around the place (which was PACKED, no tables were available but there seems to be table service; someone was wiping down a table so a group could sit), my food was ready! Less than 5 minutes! Well-packed with ramekins of cocktail sauce and tartar sauce, napkins and a smile, I was a happy customer. Everything was well-prepared, crispy and there was enough to save and eat for dinner. The fish was thin with crisp edges and the tartar sauce is full of pickle relish and a touch of lemon. The platter even came with a fresh slice of lemon to squeeze. The cocktail sauce was tangy from horseradish and a little sweet on the backend from the corn syrup-laden ketchup. Still good, though! The coleslaw was just okay. Kind of sweet, very mayonnaise-y, made with a standard cabbage coleslaw mix with carrots thrown in. Next time I'll try to eat-in, get my gyro and maybe try those tots. read more

My husband and I decided to try Showmars yesterday. Neither of us had ever eaten there. We both got burgers, my husband got the bun and I got the pita. They were both delicious. Great fish sandwich! So good in fact we went back again the next day for lunch again. Both lunches included popcorn shrimp which was delicious as is the fish sandwich. The small salad is also amazing as it includes cucumbers, tomato slices and red onion slivers. We had ranch dressing for the salads and also enjoyed that. All fried entrees are fresh and crispy as are their tater tots and retro crinkle fries. The servers are patient and polite! Overall even at the end of the busy lunch hours the facility is clean. Showmars is finally here! They brought a little taste of Charlotte to the Triad. Showmars is a great spot with super fresh ingredients and fast, friendly service. They have fresh salads, juicy grilled chicken, THE BEST tzatziki sauce, gyro, pitas, cheeseburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, pasta salad, the list goes on. You'll get a lot for your dollar as their portion sizes are pretty substantial! They are "Greek Southern" in their approach to food. It is a casual order-at-the-counter-and-grab-a-number style dining experience which makes it perfect for a quick lunch or dinner with a group. They chose a great location in the heart of Stratford near LA Fitness. Our food today was fantastic, as always. The staff came around and made sure our drinks were refilled. I was really disappointed in this place especially for the price. The burgers are meh and not worth it

At first I was underwhelmed by their menu, a little bit Greek, a little bit Southern, and a certain chain vibe that felt like nothing would be authentic. However, the service and the food were just right. We ordered the Bacon Cheddar Burger on a pita with tater tots. The burger was good sized, well seasoned, bacon crispy and veggies were fresh. The Salt & Pepper Tots were nothing special, but were hot and fresh, but surprisingly lacked any of the Salt and Pepper in their name, but there were shakers on the table to add our own. We also ordered a Flounder and Shrimp platter, and both were great, lightly battered and fresh. The shrimp batter has a seasoning that was nice, but the flounder seemed to be more of a plain batter, but with salt, pepper, lemon, cocktail and tartar sauces, you can season them up as much as you like. The hush puppies came with it and were lightly sweetened. Instead of fries and slaw, I upgraded to Mac & Cheese which was very creamy, but not a lot of cheese or flavor, a little salt and pepper fixed it up. I also chose Hummus with pitas and loved that side option. We also got a piece of Baklava, which was gooey and sticky on the bottom with a flaky crust on top. It was served chilled, but it was surprisingly good, better than most Greek restaurants in town. We will be back to try the Gyro and Souvlaki next time. One week later: Made it back to try the Gyro. It was great! Plenty of thick pieces of meat, not the thin, pre-sliced pieces so many other restaurants serve. Now that they have drive-up for online orders, getting a meal from Showmars is even easier. I'm getting takeout frequently here, and every order has been perfect. I'm from Charlotte and I ordered food from Showmars once a week for 15 years and never had a bad meal. However after moving here and being so excited about this new location I can honestly say that I'm disappointed. Ordered two old fashioned burgers with fries and drinks and the fries were cold (no onion rings at this location ). I felt the price was a little high for the quality. Tried them again and ordered 2 Greek salads and the lettuce was not fresh on either one- quite wilted actually. Ordered a chicken pita and there was virtually no seasoning on the chicken- quite bland. I so wanted to love this location after being a regular customer at the Charlotte locations but sadly this location leaves a lot to be desired for quality. read more

Growing up in Charlotte, Showmars was always a favorite of mine & I can't even express how happy I am to finally have one nearby! The restaurant was almost completely full when we went but our food still came out in less than 5 minutes. The dining room staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious as always. So delicious in fact that we practically inhaled it before I remembered to take any photos. Their seafood, chicken souvlaki, tzatziki, slaw, and chicken tenders are all amazing!! I lived in the Mooresville/Charlotte area in college and I LOVED Showmars when I lived there. When I heard there was a Showmars coming to Winston I was so excited! I've been twice since they opened and both times my experience has been great. The inside dining is clean with a vibrant design, and there were a number of staff regularly checking on me and my party. I had ordered a to-go meal with my dine-in order and it wasn't made until I was asked if I was ready for it which was great! My second trip was an online order which I picked up curbside. The staff member that brought it to me was friendly and kind. I highly recommend this place :) I'll be going back regularly! read more
