Our family ate there several times during our two week vacation in Orange Beach. Even when it was very busy, we were seated quickly and our orders came out quickly and always very hot. I Particularly enjoyed the seafood gumbo and my husband liked the shrimp étouffée. And of course I have to put in a good word for their Bushwacker drink. They clearly are not aiming for repeat customers. We waited nearly an hour for food and saw multiple customers seated, order and food delivered after we ordered our food. After we asked about our food, several others served then they told us our order was marked as completed. They didn't apologize or do anything to make up for it. Awesome place. First, it was 6:30ish when I got there. So the busiest time. That said, the wait staff was doing the best they could so I can't really complain. The food and atmosphere is cool. Arrived late in Orange Beach, Alabama, after traveling all day. Hungry and not at all familiar with the area. The hostess at the front desk of our hotel recommended The Shrimp Basket for a quick seafood type meal. "But do they sell adult beverages?" was my only question. They do...lol. My wife and I each had their own signature draft beer, the Shrimp Basket Pale Ale. Very tasty and very cold, we decided to "try" two. The food was good. We were very impressed with our choices. My wife had the Gumbo, and I enjoyed the Boom Boom Shrimp Tacos. And they had tons of other options on the menu... boils, fish, burgers, etc. We were impressed. Our waitress was awesome! Very friendly and even sharing pictures of some cool things to see in the area. And the best part, we showed up 10 minutes before closing, and the entire staff was still friendly and helpful. We apologized for postponing their closing rituals, and they assured us we were OK. Can't say enough about the staff. Not sure if we will be back in Orange Beach in the future or if we will ever visit another Shrimp Basket (apparently there's more of them?), but it was a great visit. Definitely recommend. read more

Went to take part of the .79 cent oyster deal. They were good for the price. We also got a free app online- bonus win there. The wait time was ok, but expected for an AYCE time and a deal day like .79 cent oysters. For what the staff was given they did pretty well. I would rate it higher however, I think they need to do more training on how to be more polite and not engage/encourage gossip around customers especially while they enjoy a meal. We have been coming here for 20 years. This was the worst food ever. The Grouper was so fishy it tasted nothing like Grouper. The grits had the consistency of sawmill gravy. The fried okra was big clumps of okra all stuck together with some breading covering parts of it. The shrimp in the shrimp poboy were chewy. And the coleslaw which used to be called shrimpslaw even was less tasty than before. Finally even the sweet tea tasted like unsweet tea-it was not southern sweet tea at all. This was our first place we ate when we arrived for vacation. Loved the food and service from Heather. But we did have a big problem during our visit. When eating fried pickles there was a fried crab claw in there and I crunched down. I let Heather know and she apologized. It could have really done some damage and I let her know. We found this place closed to our hotel and decided to give it a try, we saw the menu and found no crab and the kids wanted that for dinner we almost leave the place but decided to ask the waitress and she show us some new items they haven't add to their menu so we got the green tomatoes and loved the chipotle dip, the queso was good but not up to my kids Texan taste same as the fish tacos didn't pass the test but we were starving so it saves you from that but let me tell you about the sausage, that sausage had more flavor than many I have tried in Texas it was a punch to you mouth DELICIOUS smoky flavor that made the shrimp so tasty. Not stellar food. Ordered the "All you can eat fried Crab fingers". The crab fingers were mostly crumbs of breading. Not much crab. We also ordered the all you can eat steamed shrimp. The shrimp was very good. The "all you can eat" catch is, they bring you small portions and it takes awhile to get another order. Overall the waiter service was excellent. Kept our glasses full. Terrible service, waiter made racist anti-Asian hate comment towards by step-kids last Monday April 3, at approximately 7:30-6:45pm. This was after he ignored us for 45 minutes and refused to bring us the food we had ordered from him! When I complained to management, and asked to pay for my drinks so we could go, the manager supported him and the waiter came out trying to start a physical fight with me! Located directly across from my hotel, it was a no brained to give shrimp basket a try. We ordered a small shrimp basket, kids fish and side salad. All we're tasty and very satisfying. I ordered takeout from my mobile device and my order was hot, fresh and ready when I pulled up. Overall great service and great food! We attempted to eat at the Pensacola location in Perdido Key. The waitress who was supposed to seat us ignored us, pushed past us, came back by us, and ignored us again. All the while she was muttering to herself and acting disgusted. We decided to leave, and we are so glad we went to the Orange Beach location. We were immediately greeted upon our arrival, and seated quickly. Our waitress, Kristen, could not have been any sweeter... She gave us menu Suggestions, answered all of our questions, and was very attentive throughout the meal. We ordered the crab cake platter and the flounder platter, both with sweet potato fries and Cole slaw. The crabcakes were delicious, as well as the flounder. The sweet potato fries were a little bit of an up charge, but they were definitely worth it. Not only was Kristen attentive, but the manager came by to check on us as well to be sure everything came out OK. All of the wait staff seemed to be very friendly to the customers. This location is definitely not managed by the same person who manages the Pensacola location . Do yourself a favor... choose the shrimp basket in Orange Beach! And ask for Kristen! read more

Disappointing: We visited at night and got 6 orders for take out. The person taking out order was not very nice or helpful. We asked for recommendations and she stated she didn't really eat the food here. I guess that should have been our first clue but it was late and we were there. Positives: our daughter really liked the Cajun pasta and the chicken strips were pretty good. I ordered the grouper sandwich and while the bread was not that good the fish was well seasoned. The negatives besides the service: The shrimp basket we ordered was so disappointing it tasted mediocre at best especially considering the name of the restaurant. The fries were soggy and tasted old. Staying close to the condo on our last night in town, we ventured out to the Shrimp Basket. Despite being in a strip mall location, the restaurant had plenty of seating. This place was terrible! Our waiter seemed to be high off of god knows what. We sat outside and the chairs were very tiny and uncomfortable. My 3 year old ordered a cheeseburger the waiter put in chicken strips and when he brought the food to the table I told him that's not what I ordered her and he admitted he put the order in wrong. I asked him if he could please get her the cheeseburger we ordered and he told me we would have to pay for the burger and the chicken tenders even though it was his screw up. I got a cowboy burger and I kept getting a weird paper taste only to open up my burger and see they left the plastic paper wrap on my cheese that was on my burger, yet still charged us for it. I feel extremely sick after eating here. Not to mention we asked for honey mustard 3 times and never received it. Also we seen our draft beers sitting at the bar while our waiter was running around cleaning tables not worried about our drinks several times. And the bill was almost $200 and food was disgusting. Tyrone was an awesome server! Both of my daughters have celiac and he spoke with the kitchen to make sure their food was safe. They were able to have fried food in a gf coating that was fried in a pot vs the fryer to avoid cross contamination! Both girls were so happy that we are going back again tomorrow and both girls used their own money to buy a shirt. Update: Just finished dinner for the second day in a row. Tyrone rocked it again! Food was so excellent! Everyone in our party got something different and we all shared. The portion sizes are very large and everything tasted great. My personal favorite was the crab cakes, but I also enjoyed the burger with grilled pineapple. Despite our large party size, the food came quickly and our server was very sweet. What's unfortunate is that the food is actually pretty good aside from the oysters. The oysters came out after we waited for 30 minutes. The ice had started to melt and the oysters were warm. We ate 8 out of the 12 and had to spit the others out as they tasted off. We waited for drinks for about 20 minutes and the refills came back without ice. We ordered two bronzed (grilled) grouper sandwiches and they were good and so were the chicken tenders. The main complaint was that the service was so so bad. For example: we asked our waitress if we could order (knowing we might not see her again for a long time) she said "hold on I have to cash these people out" and then we watched her take 3 tables orders before us even though we had sat down long before them. We saw a couple a few tables over order beers and an appetizer. The beers took 20 minutes and they were in bottles. We love the Shrimp Basket so it was disappointing.
