Stayed down the street from this food truck and let me start off by saying that the woman (and staff generally) was super sweet and helpful. The garlic shrimp was good. I'd skip the popcorn shrimp next time just because I didn't really feel like there was anything great about it and probably try the coconut shrimp instead. I went back to try their coffee float drink a subsequent day and although Yelp and Google said they were open, they weren't so I'm not sure if that was a fluke or there's a discrepancy in listed hours and actual hours of operation. This food truck was the most randomly amazing food of my entire trip. My husband and I ate these overpriced meals all week only for this food truck to blow it all out of the water. Pretty solid spot for a garlic shrimp plate! The food itself is about 3 stars to be honest, but it gets an extra star from me for these reasons: 1) there's never a long line. I would rather get my food in 5 minutes and sacrifice a bit of flavor to not have to wait in line in the hot sun for an hour like you do at the more popular trucks. 2) there's a nice clean bathroom in the store (Ching's) that the truck parks next to. The other shrimp trucks on the side of the road have port-o-potties that are disgusting and hot and smelly. 3) the workers at this truck are 200% fun and aloha spirit. 4) they offer a lot more than just garlic shrimp. They have crab legs, clams, mussels, steak, etc. lots of other shrimp trucks just do... shrimp. So this is a bit more of a crowd pleaser. 5) they have smoothie floats! Yes, fruit smoothies with ice cream. Bam! If that doesn't "float" your banana boat, Ching's store has allll the drinks you could want and some desserts and poke options. You can shop at both places and have a true feast! The shrimp situation is this: 2 scoops rice 1 small dipping cup of melted butter About 12 medium size shrimp with the shells - the last time we went they were overcooked Tons of garlic! This is my favorite place to eat on the island. Lots of places do garlic shrimp but none do it better than Shrimp Shack. The food is amazing and the service is awesome too. So this spot is WAY better than Giovanni's - make this your first stop on the North Shore shrimp route! We ordered the crab cakes, popcorn shrimp, mahi mahi and the spicy shrimp. The shrimp was juicy, filled with flavor and absolutely delicious. The mahi mahi was perfectly cooked and went amazing with their tartar sauce. The popcorn shrimp was crispy and amazing. Plenty of cocktail sauce and additional garlic butter sauce for the shrimp. Loved the service, the views of the ocean and the deliciousness. This was my second time visiting the shrimp shack. The first time I really enjoyed it, but this time was not the greatest. The food was not as seasoned the 2nd time and the food was somewhat cold- I got the shrimp dish. I wish the food was just as good as the first time, but I am hoping when I visit in the future, then it will be just as good as the first time. I went to the shrimp shack with my family and it was their first time. Thankfully, they enjoyed the food. I did truly appreciate the great customer service provided. The employee that helped us was very sweet and told us about the history of the shrimp shack and how it all got started. I would suggest trying out this place next time you are on the island! Terrible. They do not de shell or remove the poop vein from the shrimp. Then you're left with a plastic fork to de vein yourself. Terrible. Eat anything anywhere else. Customer service was terrible. We asked for our money back on the shrimp part of our steam and shrimp and they berated us for trying to eat two of the seven shrimp. Normally I try to give something a second try if it sucks at first but learn from the mistakes of others don't eat here. They offered a refund then didn't honor this offer. This place did not disappoint, we tend to shy away from most because of the expensive prices, but this place was not only affordable but so delicious. This truck looked a little intimidating from the side of the road but man does it have FLAVOR! The location has multiple areas to eat at. One area is against the red building next to it or across the street on the beach. My husband and I both got the coconut shrimp which surprised us with a buttery garlic rice and a guava honey sauce it was MOUTH WATERING! We also sucked down a Kona ice cream coffee and wow we are driving down the road and our mouths are still watering over how delicious the flavor was! Unfortunately the day we came here I couldn't eat a lot :( It was already 3pm and I had to be at a dinner by 6pm! UGHHHH! Not fair =___= I love shrimp trucks! My husband and I eat at this shrimp truck faithfully every two weeks. It's a little far from us. But the trio is worth it.. the ladies are very nice always accommodating. The food trucks on the north shore are absolutely legendary and Shrimp Shack didn't disappoint. It's a total dive, attached (not physically) to a wonderful small market. Shrimp is clearly not local; they couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me where it came from. I had the spicy shrimp on white rice and it was delicious. Shrimp Shack was the first shrimp truck experience in Oahu. It was featured on Food Network some time back. If I had only tried this truck and none of the others, I would have rated it 4-stars. However, I later discovered there are some better shrimp trucks in Oahu. After trying 3 different trucks, this is what I concluded: Pros: Delicious butter dipping sauce and excellent rice. Friendly service. Cons: Shrimp could be bigger and more plentiful. Other places split the shells down the back to remove the vein which also makes the shrimp easier to peel. read more

Not bad and the prices were pretty comparable to other shrimp trucks I've frequented. Hubs and I stumbled upon this shrimp truck while driving down Kamehameha Hwy. We screeched to a halt, turned around and were able to find parking off the side of the road. I had the Pan Fried Garlic Shrimp and hubby had the spicy version of what I had. No complaints here! It was fresh and tasty although I have to admit I like Bluewater's just a tad bit more...sorry. The owner was friendly and chatted it up with us for awhile while we ate. Topped it off with some homemade butter mochi from next door and were all set for the day. Good stuff! We went to two other shrimp trucks on the North Shore before eating here. All three places including this place were GREAT. This place however offers half steak half shrimp. They also have a few tables right on the sand with a view of the ocean. Would recommend to anyone and the staff was awesome and friendly ! read more

There were several tables for customers to sit and eat alongside the Ching's Punaluu store. The food was served quick. The deep fried shrimp and calamari had a fresh tender juicy crunch. I specially drove far to try the shrimp here and was so disappointed. The garlic shrimp was not cleaned well as it had black stuff inside and was covered with a thick garlic paste that was almost too difficult to eat. The shrimp itself I could not taste at all. The rice was a mush and the whole dish was not good according to me. My friends did try the coconut shrimp( fried) and liked that but I guess fried shrimp is always a safe bet. I however prefer a flavourful shrimp when I'm by the ocean not something fried. read more

The best thing about this truck is NO LINE! And they have a pretty extensive menu. I got the mahi fish and garlic shrimps combo and husband got garlic shrimps only. The shrimps are bit smaller than Giovanni's which we went the day prior, and the sauce here is very runny. So by the time you get to the end of your rice, it's an oily mess! They do have seating tables and the worker will bring out your food with a cute marker to put on your table.
