The roasted pig, duck, and soy chicken over rice is perfect for lunch. Price is very reasonable. When you are waiting in line, look through the menu so you can order when seated. Great authentic Cantonese style restaurant located in the heart of flushing. They're open super early in the morning and they have the best congee! It's smooth, flavorful, filling, and it's my perfect comfort food. They also have many congee dishes to pick from. Be careful when you take your first bite because it's always boiling hot! The char siu and the duck are also a good choice. The skin of the duck is always crispy and warm. It is a bit oily but it's expected. If you come here often, the waiters do remember you, they'll get to know you, and greet you whenever you come in. Overall, the staff are super friendly, quick, and attentive. Wontons are big and a hearty amount of "hor fun" noodles to the point where we struggled to finish the bowl. The wait staff plentiful,attentive, and friendly. Majority of the food in Flushing is "mandarin cuisine" or non-canto food, so it's good that there's a place like this in Flushing. Also, this is a good place if you're not a fan of spicy foods. The restauarant format is like the Elmhurst location. You can sit in or take out and there's a section where they showcase the hanging bbq meats. But given the location, it can be hectic/crowded. The type of congee they serve includes fried cellophane noodles (which gives good texture and thickness), and you can order this anytime during business hours (some places only offer it in the morning-early afternoon). Honestly, you can't really find a place with this taste and style in Flushing, which is a shame because Flushing used to have a lot of canto places to eat but the area is shifting/changing. I encourage people to go during off hours or buy food to go. As I've mentioned, it can be crazy crowded. I came on a Saturday around 11:30pm and it was crowded. A lot of elderly Chinese customers, an old lady grazed my butt to ask a waiter for a table. The employees here all speak a mixture of languages (english/cantonese/mandarin/taishanese) if you listen closely they kind of mix up all the languages up sometimes. One unique thing about this place is that they offer char sieu cheung fun (roast pork wrapped in rice noodles). They also offer jia leurng (fried cruller wrapped in rice noodle). Reliable spot for Cantonese food. No frills here - the staff is focused on serving food hot and fast, so they can come off a bit curt at times, but don't let that offend you. Most recently I've been impressed by their preserved egg and lean pork congee. It's something I order occasionally from Hong Kong style bakeries in Chinatown, but it's not nearly as tasty or chock full of goodness as the version made here. They don't skimp on the egg or pork and the flavor is brothy and delicious. They have several other kinds of congee to choose from but the preserved egg and lean pork one is my favorite. If you're coming here to eat family-style with a group, bear in mind that the portions are quite large (unless you order the dishes over rice, which are also large but composed of mostly rice). I like the roast meats - the "san bao fan" (translates to "three treasures over rice") lets you sample three different kinds of meats without ordering a ton. Came here first day with my husband and mother in law for dinner yesterday. The service was not even decent. No management on the floor. Some of the waiters and waitresses looked confused. It would cost $3.00- Dag! That's expensive! I thought it would be additional $1.00 but it's not at this Shun Won Restaurant in Flushing. Then, I just ordered roast duck with noodle soup. The portion was small for $5.50. They gave me good pieces of duck and it was okay. Can't compare the food portion in Chinatown, Manhattan. My husband ordered the small dish of roast pork- $7.50, one salted fried bread which tasted stale for $1.25 and one wonton noodle soup for $5.00. My mother in law ordered the beef stew & wonton with Ho fun $7.00 and one order of Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. The Chinese broccoli was not even rinsed well. We've tasted the dirt. Their congee is so good! Make sure to get a fried dough stick to go with it. Service is fast and straight forward. Don't come here expecting to linger for a while because they get pretty busy. Great chinese take out restaurant if you're looking for the traditional staple breakfast food items (congee/cruellers/steamed rice rolls), rice and noodle dishes and BBQ items (char siu/duck/soy sauce chicken/roast pig). Their congee is just as good as Big Wong and Wing Wongs in Chinatown without having to drive all the way out to the city. During covid-19, they have a system where a staff member will take your order and then have you wait off to the side for your food. While waiting there is another kitchen staff member constantly spraying sanitizing liquid and wiping down the handrails. The food is reasonable priced and the wait is not long. It's like NYC Chinatown moved to flushing. Some staff from the former Wing Wong on Lafayette street are working here. Typical faire of wonton noodles available in a flash after placing order. They have rice rolls made to order. I usually order a shrimp or beef. The rice roll is a little thick but it's nonetheless quite filling. I was recently turned onto one that has a green cilantro added to it. It was quite tasty. The thousand egg w/ pork congee for breakfast is delicious. My favorite Cantonese places in Flushing are all completely gone when I visited Flushing a few weeks ago. Where have they all gone??!!! I was only absent from Flushing for a few years. So when I saw Shun Won today, I was glad to see it. Flushing need more Cantonese restaurants like Shun Won. It's cheap and very tasty. The restaurants with hanging ducks in the window are starting to be a distant memory, so thank goodness for Shun Won. The bulk of the "over rice" dishes fall in the $5.25 to $6.00 range. The barbecue meats like roast pig, roast pork, roast duck or soy sauce chicken over rice start at $5.25. Congee (rice porridge) is sold here and it falls mostly between $4.25 to $5.75. Soup noodles like wonton noodles is $5. If you top your soup noodles with wontons and barbecue meats, it goes up to $7. As an added bonus Shun Won makes fresh steamed rice rolls in the morning for breakfast only. My favorite rice rolls are roast pork, beef, minced dried shrimp (which too bad I am allergic to now) and fried bread rice rolls which has a fried savory cruller inside a rice roll....YUM! The owners of Shun Won are the old owners of Wing Wong that was on Lafayette Street in Chinatown Manhattan many many many years ago. It was over 20 years ago! Wing Wong used to make a wicked Cantonese style Chow Mein (noodle dish). I also used to like Wing Wong's fried chicken wings when it was in Chinatown Manhattan. They closed the Wing Wong in Chinatown Manhattan and opened up a Shun Won in Elmhurst. Now they are opening a second store in Flushing, YAY. I have to try the wings at Shun Won in Flushing or Elmhurst one day to see if it's the same as I remembered it from Chinatown Manhattan. The Flushing location is huge compared to the Elmhurst location. Just the dining area is more than twice the size of Elmhurst. Thank goodness! The Elmhurst location is too tiny for the amount of business they take in. The Flushing looks way more comfortable than Elmhurst. The parking in either location is hard. It's the nature of the neighborhood. I am definitely coming back here for more Chinese takeout because it's familiar and cheap. Yay for hanging ducks in the window. I guess when I want to dine in Flushing, this is going to be one of my go-to places for this type of Cantonese food. read more

My parents come here at least twice a week. Waiters know them by name and they always give us extra stuff. It's run mainly by Cantonese/Malaysian people, even the waiters. One of the few Cantonese places around now. I particularly love this place because when I order a lb of LEAN meat roast pork , they actually give me lean meat. I usually order half and half of either roast pork, crispy pig or pork ribs. The duck is too oily :( 1lb last me about three days. I pair it up with rice and vegetables I make at home. Good for lunch and dinner when I can't cook lavishly. When I'm sick they also have THE best THE best fish congee or thousand year old egg with beef congee. Most places skim out on the ingredients so that it's almost watery rice soup. But this place makes it a hearty meal. You can eat it even when you are not sick. it will warm you up during the harsh winter months! Don't expect five star treatment. The food is pretty cheap. Get a whole individual meal plus tip probably under $10. It's a fast pace restaurant. You sit , u order and u eat or u take out. Not fancy. In my recollection, flushing does not have anything this close, in terms of taste, to the chinatown versions. The dishes are big, and very well priced. So both my friend and I ordered a chicken and duck over rice for lunch. We went to pick it up, when we opened the lunch box, it's a total disappointment. If you think how can this typical Chinese food goes wrong? This place is! So my order came with almost all duck "neck" and all dried up chicken breast. The chicken is so dry and it looks like they re-cook the left over chicken. My friend ordered the same thing, his lunch box came with almost all duck skin with fat, no meat in the duck at all. Chicken was also dried like mine. They charge almost 7 dollars for the lunch, which is not too expensive or cheap, but they only give you some trash food like that. I definitely like to eat with my eyes first and I have to say that I have had some of the most perfect char siu ever at this restaurant. Nice red color and each morsel was moist and cooked well with just the slight hint of sugary char. I am a big fan of shun won in elmhurst so I was very excited to see that they had opened a restaurant in flushing. I always like to have an affordable meal with cheap prices and I can count on shun won to deliver that each time. Recently I have seen a lot of my favorite bbq meat places closed down and it has been way more difficult to find cantonese food in flushing lately besides your dimsum joints. I get a lot of takeout here but I do have to say that I have a problem with the waiters. The familiar manager at the counter register is always on point (I recognize him from big wong in chinatown) but if you decide to eat there sometimes the waiters do not know what they are doing. They get the orders wrong or they don't explain the menu items correctly or sometimes they will just plain ignore you because they think you are with another party. Great food but needs to work on their table service. That is why I always opt for the take out here. But they have the usual fare of wonton noodles, lots of other rice and noodle dishes and of course crispy roast pig, juicy duck and roast pork and they are open early so you can get the rice rolls and congee with the fried cruller for breakfast. One of my favorite cantonese spots but have to take off a star for service. I wish them well and hope they train their waiters a lil better cuz I really like this place. read more

To me only the congee and beef chow fun are good. -Pan fried noodles and yee mein is very bland. -Wonton is very sweet, must have seasoned with a lot of sugar. -Fried rice does not have "wok hei". -Roast pork and chau siu are okay but Corner 28 is better -Roast duck is no good either In general, what's need to be cook inside the kitchen is usually bland and lackluster. Have order, fish flounder & tofu, pork chop with onion and Steak Hong Kong Style whic left a lot to be desired. Some of the staffs are rude. They are very busy because they are the only Cantonese no frills sit in restaurant, which were widely abundant and popular back in the days in Chinatown. But Cantonese food tasted a lot better back in the 1990s. Where did all the good siu fu went? Retired? Can't wait for more of these kind of Cantonese restaurant to open up in flushing. Came here at 7 pm-- dinner time. My boyfriend ordered the wonton ho fun noodle soup and I ordered the Sam bo fan. Upon ordering for my Sam bo fan (which usually includes 3 meats and rice) we were told they actually don't have char siu (roast pork) or roast duck and only had chicken and another type of pork. When the food came, the rice was mushy and the egg that came with 2 meats was not runny at all. Additionally, the wonton noodle soup came with the wrong noodles and when we tried to tell the waitress, she tried to tell us we ordered wrong before putting in a new order. The noodles were bland too.. these dishes are the most basic of Chinese food and the fact that it was a mess on many levels was disappointing. I was in the mood for some roast duck today and decided to stop by flushing for dinner. There used to be a hole in the wall joint on Roosevelt avenue (can't recall the name) I had visited a few times several years ago that no longer exists. I decide to try somewhere else since I felt like I needed to satisfy my cravings. So, I try this place (Shun Won) that had roast duck on their menu stapled outside of the restaurant. Also, a total give away was the glistening roast ducks on the window display. I walk in and the staff sits me on a vacant table set for one right away. I already know what I want so I go ahead and ask for 1/2 order of the roast duck. The waiter asks if I want anything else and I ask if it already comes with rice. She replies no so I open up the menu and she suggests fried rice. I say "Sure, sounds good." After a quick glance I say, "Make it a seafood fried rice then, thank you" and hand the menu back over to her. She leaves and puts in my order. I'm sitting there pouring the hot tea beverage into the cup looking around the busy restaurant thinking this is awesome. So many ppl here, this place has to be great! After a few sip of the tea and some more glancing around the open front kitchen of the restaurant area, my order of duck arrives cut up into pieces (just the way I like it). I fugue I'll take a bite before they bring the rice so I pick up a pair of chopsticks and get to it. The duck was barely room temperature and I like my roast duck to be warm. I think no big deal, I'll just ask them to warm it up. The rice should be on its way soon anyway. It takes almost 5 more minutes for the rice to arrive and when it does I simply ask the waiter (different waiter than the one who took my order) if it's possible to warm up the duck since it's a bit cold for my liking. She happily oblige and walks off with my cool plate of duck. Looking at the rice it's definitely warm so I pick up my chopsticks once again and get to work. Disappointing! No flavor what so ever. I mean how do you not have flavors in a fried rice dish? I scan the rice and realize no herbs were used. Barely any salt or butter or eggs or a decent portion of seafood in there. Seems like just steamed rice with peas and some seafood spread around. I think to myself I should've just ordered the $3 white rice and not this ridiculous $12 seafood rice. I see the first two waiters (1st one taking the order and second waiter who went to reheat my duck) are busy with other patrons and I assume maybe someone else will bring the duck back to me. Now I'm sitting there for almost ANOTHER 5 minutes for my reheated duck. The waiter was passing by and looked at me and my bowl of rice and without me even saint anything realized there is something missing from my table - eureka! The duck! She sprints off to the back of the kitchen real quick. I appreciated that. She comes back with a warm roast duck and apologized for the late arrival. I assured her it's ok and then take a bite. Much better.. It's warm. I enjoyed the duck now. The rice, not so much. Anyway, there are hundreds of restaurants in Flushing.
