After calling, we rushed here right at 8pm and although they were closing, they graciously accommodated our group of 6. Parking- not so easy. The restaurant is located on a small and narrow street. No handicapped parking. Service- excellent and fast. Food- we ordered 4 dishes and it was plenty for the 6 adults. - Farmers Salad: it has a light vinaigrette dressing. Really refreshing spring salad with shrimp, avocado and capers. Highly recommend it - Signature Fried Rice: huge portion with cha siu. - Sizzling boneless Kalbi: tender and enough fat content. Came with kimchi. Grilled well and flavorful - garlic fried chicken: big chunks of thigh meat fried perfectly. A sweet garlic soy sauce was drizzled on the crispy pieces. Many friends told me it's a locals' favorite, but I wonder if the chef was off that night. Every dish was over-salted or just overly seasoned. There's really on street parking if you're looking for free parking. There's a parking garage across the street, which will cost you a small fee. If you don't mind a short walk though, you can park in the parking garage for the Ala Moana stores, which is what I did. The dishes are quite large and seem to be catered to family-style, so be sure to bring family and friends. My girlfriend and I ordered the garlic fried chicken and their famous fried rice. The fried rice was alright. It was good, but I couldn't see what set it apart from fried rice from other places. The garlic fried chicken though, was amazing! Probably the best garlic fried chicken I've ever had. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. There also wasn't an extensive amount of sauce either. We ordered the fresh kajiki poke, Chinese style steamed Basa (fish) , signature garlic chicken, sizzling boneless kal bi and white rice with furikake. Believe it or not this order was for only three people. Our server was nice and did not judge us for ordering so much. But, when the food arrived, we were shocked /surprised as to the portions! Huge amount of food! Every dish was delicious. My daughter thought it was the best poke she's had ever. I have to agree the poke was uniquely seasoned. The steamed fish was very good too. It was flavorful with interesting ingredients. The garlic chicken was perfectly crispy and tasty reminding me of Korean fried chicken. We decided to eat here for a little get together with the family. We had a reservation at 5 pm but got there a little early. The staff was able to get us in earlier which was nice. It gave a sports bar vibe and it was a nice touch since we came on a Sunday. Our server recommended for us to get their Prix Fixe meals which consist of edamame, toss salad with vinaigrette, their signature fried rice, garlic chicken, fan fried pork chops and sizzling boneless kalbi. It was a nice little starter before the big boy foods come out. Edamame was okay and their salad was good. I enjoyed their vinaigrette. The next item that came out was the sizzling kalbi and ribeye. Both smelt sooo good made your mouth water as they both sizzled. The fried rice was next and then the chicken and pork chop followed. The portions for everything was HUGE. After everything was on the table, it was time to dig in. I got a bit of everything and the small plates they provided was loaded with food. My favorite would probably be their ribeye. We had it medium well and it was perfect. Tender, juicy and a bit charred, just how i like it. The chicken was also tasty and the skin was extra crispy. The pork chops was enjoyable. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The fried rice was good but with all the different meats we had, i think regular rice would be a better combo. Lilikoi baby back ribs, garlic edamame and fried pork chops, were delicious but the steak with chili water and the fried rice were my favorites. In fact that rice is CRAVEBLE!! If only I could find fried rice that good here in Las Vegas... A local's favorite! (I'm not a local, but that's what I heard!) That's how you know it's good! I showed up 2 hours before my reservation because our previous plans finished earlier than expected and was able to get a seat! Thanks so much Side Street Inn! We waited outside for less than 5 minutes and they checked vaccination cards before allowing us to sit. I came a few days before Christmas (12/22) and there was a live music singer singing a few Christmas songs. Such a good vibe! There are also TVs all over the restaurant playing different sports gams if that's what you're into. Service was great and we got these huge water cups. KALBI - Ordered this from the special menu. Least favorite dish of the night, but still good. Loved the onions and the mushrooms. FRIED CHICKEN - DELICIOUS!! I came specifically to Side Street Inn for this dish and boy it sure didn't disappoint. The chicken was juicy and tender, and the breading was perfectly crispy and full of flavor. Highly recommend!! Haven't been here since before COVID, but Sidestreet is something I crave very often!! We ordered the pork chops, kimchi fried rice, and garlic chicken. The star of the show as per usual was the kimchi fried rice - so buttery and generously portioned. Pork chops were alright, but they used to be much crispier. Now they're a bit soggy on the outside. This was also my first time ordering garlic chicken wings which were quite good and crunchy - a lot like Korean fried chicken. There were a few other groups, and we were seated after the server cleared off our table. The server was very nice and attentive. And the food is always great. If you love kalbi, come here! Came with a couple of friends on a Friday night. We unfortunately didn't know that happy hour was all the days except Friday...but I digress. But the real star of the show was the boneless kalbi! The meat was tender and juicy, the marinade was perfect, and the flavor came through so well. The grilled taste of the meat and the balance between sweet and savory was perfect. The dish also comes with kimchee, which complemented the meat well. 6/5. We also ordered the peanut butter crunch cake, which tasted like something familar (a candy bar, perhaps?), and it was a good end to the meal. The waitstaff was so friendly! A very enjoyable experience, food-wise and ambiance-wise. There's street parking available, but we parked at the mall and walked over. There were 10 of us but included 4 children. Still so much food for 6 adults. Hubby liked the yakisoba (not on pre fixe) and one of the specials was steamed snapper (Chinese style), the table enjoyed the fish. Also the portions are huge, so be prepared to take some home. Next day leftovers are great btw. The furikake encrusted fish was cooked to perfection and the crust on the outside - just right. If you're in the mood for yakisobe go for the one with kimchee. It adds a great tang and bite to the noodles like I've never had before. And don't forget the kalbi ribs. A bit on the pricey side but seriously ono eats. Felt very much like family here. Like coming home to auntie's place who never let's you leave hungry. Staff was super friendly, helpful and attentive. We recently read in our local newspaper's restaurant guide, Crave, about Side Street Inn's renovation to a sleek and contemporary space while retaining its casual spirit of its founder, the late Colin Nishida. I fondly reminisced over my late night dines (in the 90s) here with former co-workers but admittedly having never been a cigarette smoker, I didn't frequent this place as often even though I thought the good local comfort food and beverages flowed from the kitchen and bars seamlessly. But, the news of its renovation to a more open floor plan and a more contemporary décor, brought us to return after decades of staying away. By the way, Side Street Inn is located in a light industrial area near the Ala Moana Center so its exterior isn't much to look at and street parking is often difficult to find. Since we arrived at Side Street Inn around shortly after 3 PM, we were dismayed to find their plate lunch takeout service had just concluded for the day. But, one of the servers who met us at the door provided us with a takeout menu and incentivized us by saying they'd be opening for dine-in service at 4 PM. Ah, our visit wasn't lost since my husband then suggested that we continue our walk and return for their early dinner service on our way home. I didn't want to be scratching at the doors right at 4 PM sharp so we took our time walking and got in seeing several customers already seated at the bar or at tables. We had seen the servers cleaning the dining surfaces with a sanitizing solution and the seating options are properly 6-feet apart socially distanced. Our server, Sara, quickly brought us beverage and food menus to peruse as she mentioned their Pau Hana 10% discount Tuesday - Thursday between 4 PM to 6 PM for DINE-IN customers only. Wow! We're already getting a deal for coming in for an early dinner. We ordered a couple of Maui Brewing Company's Bikini Blonde beers seeing they were on draught. Meanwhile, we perused the menu and decided on the following items. -Poke of the Day (Kajiki Poke): 1/2 lb. fresh-caught kajiki (marlin), kukui nut, Hawaiian salt, sweet onion, green onion, sesame seed oil, chili pepper water and SSI's housemade poke sauce. Garnished with dashes of cayenne. This poke was spicy and our thirst was quenched by the cold draught beers. The kajiki was fresh tasting and had a good mouthfeel. $16 -Liliko'i BBQ Baby Back Ribs: charbroiled pork baby back ribs basted with housemade liliko'i (passion fruit) BBQ sauce. The baby back ribs were so tender and flavorful. Usually, I don't care for wet or sauced bbq but these baby rack ribs were truly finger licking good! We liked the stacked presentation and I immediately thought of playing "rib Jenga". Haha. $21.50 -Lup Cheong Fried Rice: their Signature fried rice containing char siu, bacon, Portuguese sausage, peas and carrots with the addition of lup cheong 臘腸(Chinese sausage). I was surprised that my husband chose this fried rice to be our starch as I know that he doesn't care for peas. When our server delivered this huge platter of fried rice, I expected him to pick out the peas before eating but, he surprised me by eating the fried rice as is. I think he was hangry. $17.50 The portions were humongous but we managed to eat all of the poke and about 1/2 of the baby back ribs and fried rice. Leftovers filled 2 containers and now we have another yummy meal. Service by Sara was friendly, attentive and friendly. Her friendliness made us comfortable as we enjoyed the local comfort food in the sleek yet welcoming space. I was visiting my parents in O'ahu for my mother's birthday week and my brother picked this place to go eat and I was very amazed. This establishment is located in an industrial area and not so touristy which I like. I'd say kind of hole in a wall like where it offers local, comfort food with many local folks. Don't give these folks your time or business, we had eaten there on several occasions and were happy but not this time as the customer service in our opinion was nonexistent. After trying to call numerous times and no one answered the phone and the voicemail was full, we walked from our hotel and when we arrived at 5:45pm on Thursday evening and we were told that they were having a private party or something and despite the numerous open tables and bar area they would not seat us this despite the first hostess getting ready to seat us?? We fully understand special events and private parties but you should in our opinion either post something on your website , clear your voicemails or answer the phone. Dozens of excuses why they couldn't accommodate us but don't waste your time and money here there are plenty of great restaurants in the area. side street inn is one of my favorite places to go with a big group! portions are so generous and the food is delicious. the group meals are severely underestimated in portion size. the menu says the small size chef classics would serve 3-4 people and the large feeds 6-8 but the small can actually feed 6-7, and I would say the large feeds 10-12. we accidentally ordered two of the large sizes for 10 people and had sooo many leftovers. we were eating side street inn for days after! if it's your first time, I highly recommend the chef's classics. then you can try the other stuff next time haha. read more

For as long as I've lived on Oahu and the many times I've been back since, I had never been to Side Street Inn until Oct. 2020. Many of my friends always raved about it, so I had to stop by and give it a go. I happened to be there during the Covid pandemic so they were only accepting orders to go. They are literally located on a side street near the Ala Moana shopping center, which is how I assume they got their name. I ordered their famous fried pork chops with fried rice. It took about 25-30 min until it was ready. When I opened the takeout container, I knew that I would only be able to eat 1/4 of it on the first pass. The plate was gigantic! It came with one huge fried pork chop, 2 scoops of fried rice, and ketchup as the condiment - (only in Hawaii, lol). The pork chop was tasty, but not out of this world. The good news is that it wasn't dry. The breading was crispy. The fried rice was delicious. Together it made a good plate lunch. I probably wouldn't order it again unless I had someone to share it with or wanted to make 3 meals out of it. I can't really comment on the service, as I got my order to go, but I will say that the food took longer than they initially quoted, and I had to wait up to 10 min on the side of the street when I got there. One strong recommendation is to please offer mini plates for people who just want a regular size portion at a reasonable price. The pork chop plate was a bit pricey at $22. read more
