Finally made it to try out this place which makes fancy cocktails. They have a menu (which in my opinion was bourbon and whiskey heavy) that you can order a lot of drinks I haven't heard of before. I ended up trying one which was ok. Then I asked the bar tender for something just slightly more citrusy and man did he deliver. So moral of the story, if you know what you like and don't see it on the menu, ask the bar tender. They were both good that night and knew their stuff. Ambiance is relaxed and cozy. Not overpriced for what you get. But warning it's hard to find this place if you aren't looking for it. It's in the back corner of the building near Sushi Garden. My friend knocked her glass over ( she tends to talk with her hands ) and cut her hand. They said they'd bring a bandaid but after completely ignoring us for the next twenty minutes, never asked to replace her drink , brought a bandaids or even checked on her. Avoided eye contact as I was trying to get their attention then just put the bill on the table. Literally ignored us while she was sitting there bleeding. I think I'm starting to like this better than the Tough Luck Club as far as old fashioned bars go. I've been once on a busy weekend night with friends and once on a chill weekday night with a date, and even though they were obviously different, I found the vibe pleasant both times. I don't know why I don't go more often. You don't have to dress up or look fancy, nor is it somewhere that feels so casual you may as well have not gone out at all. The drinks are solid and I think the pricing is fair--a little higher than what you'd get at your average bar in town, but also higher quality ingredients, so it makes sense. It's always clean, and the bartender (owner?) seems laid back and friendly without making you feel like you have to hang out forever before going back to your friend/date. The place is clean and comfortable; I wish I had more interesting things to say about it that would make this review funnier or more exciting, but mostly I just have to say that I like this place and would like other people to like it too, but not so much that everybody goes there all the time and ruins it. read more

This place is a visual and olfactory feast as well as a repository of incredible cocktails. Premium bar. Any citrus they use was hand squeezed on site, and it does make a difference. They don't have anything over 11$ on the menu, but they could charge more(though I'm glad they don't). I liked how there were no TVs in the whole place. It made in more comfortable and more of a place to sit and talk with someone. This would be ideal for a place to bring a date. I recommend the "bowed and tied" drink. It was absolutely superb! The bartender was very friendly and recommended relevant drinks for me. I knew I wanted to try green Chartreuse but I knew it is really intense by itself and he was knowledgable enough to know of a mixed drink with that particular ingredient. Ooh, I like it. Sidecar has been on my list of places to check out for awhile and a friend and I recently decided: it's been a long week--a cocktail is much needed. :-) I had the "Prohibition" which was really light and refreshing--delicious, really. I don't find myself saying cocktails are particularly delicious very often, but that's truly what it was. So tasty. The space is small but I think we lucked out by coming at a time when it wasn't so packed, even better. Great hidden gem! There are some really interesting other restaurants nearby that I'll be wanting to check out soon. This bar is kind of hidden behind whatever is facing broadway and the other hidden yoga studio next to it. It's a great little bar with a variety of drinks, great ambiance and a very clean area. It is a bit small, but there weren't too many people when I went. There is an outside area as well where dogs are allowed which is great on a cool Arizona day/night. I immediately asked if they could make a Pisco Sour (not on menu), a popular drink in Peru and Chile. The bartender claimed he makes the best Piscos in Tucson. They take great pride in their craftsmanship, as a truly great spot should. Case in point: Garden Shears - a seasonal drink made with housemade strawberry simple syrup. My wife may have had the last two of the season as the bartender showed us the bottle and said it was the very last of it. The notes of basil did not overwhelm. It was a very thoughtful and tasty drink. The Kentucky is one of their signature drinks and it's easy to see why they sell so many of them. Manattanish with a touch of citrus notes; it really hits the spot. The Negroni is your basic mixture of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth, but the bartender says he puts his own special twist on it, which was lost on my plebeian palate. Nonetheless, it was well-executed. Lest I forget the nosh: They seem to switch up the rather limited menu but offer things like chevre and crackers, olives, nuts and, when they don't run out, they have cookies from Sugar Sweet bakery across the street. They have some beers on tap as well as wine, but if you don't order a cocktail here, you are doing yourself a disservice. One of the more unique spots in town. Most of these cool places are going in downtown. It's nice to know we have a midtown spot to have a nice grown-up cocktail. read more

A small and limited menu of super light bites comprised of mixed nuts and a cheese plate is available too. Service is friendly and fun, but can get a little slow when the place is busy. I don' think they intended to have table service, but I highly recommend they have servers available for that, as the bar can get tied up leaving folks sitting at tables inside and out, with a bit of a wait. He was helpful with selections, funny to talk with, and overall provided a great experience. I tried the Julip Reyelle and it was very tasty. But then, after figuring out happy our, I switched to the Kentucky on the sidecar menu. It was strong and hit the spot. FYI, happy is 4-6. $1 off draft beer, $2 off wine, $2 off the three items on the "sidecar" page of the menu. They have a rotating tap of four beers from local breweries. They also have a cheese/snack board of sorts. It isn't much, but can take the edge off if you just need some nibbles. This place makes me laugh. Very good bartenders. Career bartenders. Sometimes they need to lighten up and stop lying about the Miller Lite in their own fridges at home. Definitely feels like the cool kid table in the high school cafeteria, where everyone is carefully posed just in case another cool kid walks by and glimpses them there. Sarcasm aside, I was very impressed by my cocktail (off-menu.... I asked for something floral and green, with St. Germain in it, but not sweet or fruity--he made me something that was PERFECT for what I'd requested). One other person with me got a cocktail (Moscow Mule, I believe, and she was equally impressed) and the others drank beer. Cool beer. The kind of beer of which only hipsters have heard. Beer with coffee and a goatee and skinny jeans. You probably wouldn't like the beer. Again, this place just makes me laugh. I've been a regular at 47 Scott almost since it opened, and have been to Sidecar about half-a-dozen times. I regret to say that as it has gotten more popular, the service has gotten progressively worse. To my chagrin, I ignored this growing awareness this evening and arranged for a small group of new east side business owners to meet at Sidecar for a get together. Since it was cooling off, the two of us who arrived first occupied the patio which was empty. I've received table service three or four times here, not always quickly, but always courteously. Since we weren't in a hurry, we figured there wouldn't be a problem. After going inside to make sure our presence was recognized, we grabbed a table on the patio to wait for menus and our other guests. After 10 minutes, we called the menu up on our smart phones, mulled over the choices, and greeted a couple of the new arrivals. After 15 minutes, several members of our party elected to see if one of the other nearby establishments might be more inviting. Shortly after that, a server stepped out and said that if we wanted anything we'd have to come in and order at the bar. No "Welcome to Sidecar. Here are some menus. Sorry about the wait." Just "If you want something, you have to order at the bar inside." When I asked "Do you not do table service outside anymore?" the server responded "Well, it's just that we're pretty busy inside.... You can always bring your drinks with you outside though if you want." She then turned and walked away. And so did we. I texted the rest of the party, changed the meeting spot, and we all had a lovely evening just down the street. I truly appreciate that this small business is doing well and I want it to continue to do so. Mine is not the first Yelp review (nor the only word-of-mouth opinion I've heard) that critiques the service at Sidecar, however. I hope that Ari Shapiro can help his wait staff become more professional. This is a somewhat risky location that people will quickly stop visiting if the experience doesn't make it worth it, especially with all that's happening downtown now. As for the cocktails, they're pricey but excellent. It's just that you might end up so frustrated with the service, that the delicious relaxation a perfect cocktail can evoke may be unfortunately undermined. read more
