Decided to give this place another shot and I'm so glad I did! Being a weekday, it was a different vibe than Saturday brunch. It was quiet and relaxing. My review after my first visit mentioned that my burger was salty but it must have been a one-off because I ordered the same thing today and it was perfect. The garlic fries were even better than I remembered. We also tried the loaded tots. Really good! The cheesesteak sandwich was also good. It's a slightly sophisticated version of a Philly. First time here, and we would definitely come back. My partner enjoyed the Absolut Prawns, although he would have liked the heat kicked up a notch. But he likes really spicy food, so this dish is probably hot enough for most people as is. He did say the sauce was very flavorful. I was craving fish and chips. As an ex-pat I'm looking for a good pub-style dish, and I'm often disappointed. Not this time! The fish was excellent, thin crispy batter with good portions of juicy fish inside. The chips were perfect too. Other items on the menu looked interesting too, so I guess we'll be back! I went to this restaurant today for dinner. My friend's birthday was a few weeks ago, but today was the day that worked out for both us to meet up. Her sister also joined us. My friend suggested a couple of restaurants that are located in Downtown Pleasanton and then decided on SideTrack. I got there first so I requested to sit outside since it was a beautiful day. This was my first time here but I thought it was a good choice because the menu had a good variety of options. I ordered the Absolut! Shrimp. I thought it was good and it had bite. I was torn between that and the fish and chips so the waiter helped me decide. He was polite and he checked on us often. We had a cauliflower appetizer and we ordered a side Tater Todds. My favorite was the cauliflower appetizer, it was so good. My friend and her sister shared a Jumbo Shrimp Crab Louie salad. It looked delicious. They were nice enough to split it so that they each had their own plate. The food had good presentation. The birthday girl ordered a drink, she had a mule. I didn't explore the inside of the restaurant but I still felt the restaurant had a cool vibe about it. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Went to this place with my boyfriend and dog the other night, because they have a dog-friendly outdoor patio area. Bonus is the big tv in that outdoor area for watching sports games- but since there is only one tv, it may not accommodate everyone. Our waitress was super nice but she seemed to disappear for long periods at a time. They also have runners (separate from your waiter/waitress) delivering you food out to you. Their system is a little chaotic. I was offered someone else's food at least 4-5 different times while we we sitting there. That stuff just shouldn't happen. It's just awkward and shows how disorganized they are. I ordered the Almondwood Bacon Burger with fries. I asked for the burger to be cooked medium and it ended up being well. The flavor of the burger was good as a whole- it had caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, cheddar cheese, and crispy bacon. But the burger patty itself was just more dry and over-cooked than I prefer. My boyfriend also ordered the same burger medium rare and his turned out to be medium. So it seems like a consistent error in cooking. Fries that came with the burger were solid- nothing special but they came hot and the portion size was just right. My boyfriend ordered the lava cake for dessert. He wasn't impressed. He felt like it was quite small for the price. I ordered an Oreo milkshake, but asked to be in a to-go cup because I didn't think I could finish the whole thing in one sitting. I saw someone else at a different table order the milkshake and it was served in a pretty big glass. When mine arrived in the to-go cup, it looked very sad in comparison- wasn't even filled to the top (with whipped cream included). It was tasty but not super amazing for $6.50. Judge for yourself. All in all, this place is decent if you're looking for a casual sports bar vibe. I mainly gave it 3 stars because they seem to have adequate staff but just super disorganized- a lot of people just running around and looking confused. read more

I had my first dining out experience here for my birthday. My friend and I were the only ones here for an early lunch so it was nice to have the patio to ourselves. There weren't a lot of options that had outdoor seating so I thought we would try it. We both got burgers which were decently sized. I added sweet potato fries. All of the staff members were wearing masks and practicing social distancing for the most part. Service was ok. If you don't like being bothered you will like this place. They take reservations which I recommend so you won't go when there are lots of people. This is a nice addition to the downtown area. It's a little tucked away from Main St so check it out. I am delighted to update a 2-star review to 5***. The owner, Todd, and I had a wonderful exchange after he read and replied to a less-than-stellar review of a place I've supported since it opened. He told me he had addressed and fixed everything. Yesterday I went back and it was back to PERFECT -- the cocktails were available, the food was delicious and plentiful, Jesus is the consummate waiter who always remembers us, and Todd and I were finally able to meet and shake hands. My husband & I finally got the opportunity to check this place out and it was... Fine. Honestly, nothing too over the top, the food didn't wow me but they hit the spot. I got the salmon sandwich and my husband got the Rueben sandwich. Both had good servings and filled us up plenty but we weren't wow'ed and it cost just as much as any other nicer joint. While the food was fine, the service was good and they did have a good selection of drinks to choose from. We also enjoyed their outdoor seating which was bountiful. Love that they have outdoor seating and their own little parking lot. Staff were very friendly, but when it came down to the food, this place was just okay. We ordered the coconut shrimp as an appetizer and it was rubbery and not the fried crunch you're looking for when you bite into one. We ordered a plain burger which was straightforward and ordered the crispy chicken sandwich which was again not crispy at all! I don't know how this place wasn't already packed full considering the rest of the restaurants on Main Street had an average 1 hour wait time (we checked!). Pretty large menu selection and ended up grabbing the Sidetrack Burger with sweet potato fries and a cup of clam chowder. Everything was delicious. Our High school was having a fundraiser at sidetrack. I always love an excuse not to cook. We decided to get take out because our nerd herd was tired + cranky and needed to turn in early. When I called, I think the owner may have answered, he was very friendly, helpful, and patient. My kids ordered chicken strips and fries, my husband ordered a burger, and I ordered a hot pastrami sandwich with sweet potato fries. Everything tasted great! My sandwich had a zesty cabbage slaw, the perfect amount of yellow mustard, and the rye didn't even get soggy during transport. It was exactly what I was hoping for. I loved that kids meal came with sliced grapes. I stashed some in the fridge and used them for school lunches the next day. The menu offered a lot of other tasty options, onion rings, tots, and more than one of those salads is calling my name. I look forward to returning, maybe for a casual date with the hubby. Friendly service and a clean atmosphere. For some reason I feel that this place looks larger from the outside, but it wasn't too busy when I visited. I could see it being packed on a weekend. The Happy Hour beer menu is unbeatable in the area if you're looking for good prices for good beers. For food we just did a handful of starters and they were all great. Specifically the Burria tacos were all delicious- but I don't think I would want to pay the normal menu price for the 5 smaller tacos on the plate. read more

I have been craving for bbq but can't find any locally that suits my taste. Also, I didn't want to travel too far. After browsing Yelp for places and menus that may be appealing, I came across Sidetrack off Main in Pleasanton. It was a pleasant yet chilly day and the outdoor heaters were on, so I was seated outside. The closest item to bbq was their Texas BBQ Burger. It was so ordered. Food delivery was reasonably quick. The burger was plated and looked intimidating. On top the burger were the fixings and fried shredded pork. I didn't think I can open my mouth wide enough to bite into the burger. A side order of sweet bbq sauce was drizzled on the patty. It made it much better. A side green salad was ordered instead of fries to keep the calories down and satisfy my greens intake. The burger and salad were good. Bottomless iced tea was serviced and completed my meal. The service was pleasant, atmosphere was pleasurable, price was fair, and food was good. Although not quite the bbq adventure that I was seeking, it satisfied my tummy. I highly recommend a visit when you are in Pleasanton downtown. read more

Todd was a great planning partner and helped us put together a food and beverage menu that included something for everyone, even our vegetarians. This place is GOOD. Been here a couple times for lunch and I thoroughly enjoyed my food both times. Sidetrack specializes in American bar food - think burgers, sandwiches, salads, and sides. I've gotten the Reuben sandwich ($16) and Cubano sandwich ($16). I'm not one to usually pay $16+ for a sandwich or burger, but the serving sizes here are BIG and the quality is there. I could tell quality and value are both points of emphasis here. The sandwiches come with a ton of meat - two people could really share one. All burgers and sandwiches also come with fries with the option to upgrade to sweet potato fries +1 or tater tots for +2. Between the meat, bread, sauce, and seasoning - everything is very yummy. Sidetrack also has a cool, hip vibe with a bar, TV's playing sports, and an open kitchen. I would say service could be a little better (food could take awhile to come out) but overall this place is a great addition to Downtown Pleasanton. read more

Went there for dinner lastnight. We were seated at 7:50pm they close at 9pm. After sitting there for about 10 mins or so, we were approached and told there were closed. I looked around a noticed it was slow, but I was completely amazed that they were telling me this after being seated. It was as if the employees took a vote and decided to close early. We have been here too many times to count. But, I will no longer give my money to a RUDE and unfair treatment and completely unprofessional for a restaurant to treat customers. If a restaurant runs like this, I could careless if they survive or not, because they are alienating their customers base which is what makes them or breaks them. read more

This place was a disappointment. The service was absolutely fantastic, but everything else fell short, especially the food. The restaurant looks really cozy inside but it was quite cold. Annoying that they wouldn't turn up the heat when it was freezing outside. Ahi Avocado Poke ($14) - Poke with avocado and jalapeño, served with wonton chips and a soy sauce. I feel like this would have been really good with a different sauce. The fish and avocado seemed really fresh but you couldn't taste either because the sauce was so overpowering. The entire dish just tasted like teriyaki sauce. Pancho Villa Burger ($15) - Topped with roasted poblanos and jalapenos, avocado, and cheese. The burger was incredibly under seasoned and bland. The cook on the patty was uneven. It wasn't remotely spicy. The accompanying fries were too thick and not crispy. Texas BBQ Burger ($16) - Topped with braised pork and wasabi coleslaw. Went back for a second visit with a friend, yesterday. We had a much better experience. Hence, the upgrade in my rating. :) This time, there was no Brunch Menu to contend with - just the standard Lunch Menu. I ordered what I wanted to originally order on my first visit - Brooklyn Style Hot Pastrami Sandwich ($16). It came with choice of a side dish. I chose Onion Rings. My friend ordered the Cubano Sandwich w/tossed green side salad. My pastrami sandwich was very good! The pastrami was sliced on the thick side but it was moist, flavorful and a very good quality. I found it satisfying. The Onion Rings were nice and crispy on the inside but the inside was slightly overcoolked so the onion no longer had any real body but was kinda mushy. But, it wasn't greasy! My only quibble was - while the amount of pastrami was generous, the Rye bread was very skimpy. It was more like the size of a large cracker. That made it really hard to eat since the pastrami sliced kept falling out and onto my plate or lap! My friend thought the Cubano had really good flavor but it was just a tad dry. Try the scuzzi.. unbelievably delicious. I'm a regular. I get other stuff too but the scuzzi is a MUST.

Our experience was very ok- good, but not great. I love the location and their outdoor patio- it's nice for bringing a dog! And the staff were friendly. But the food sort of fell flat. The burger wasn't special- for being their signature namesake menu item I was expecting better. Maybe a better toasted bun, actually cooking it medium and not well done, and better craftsmanship. There were six of us for lunch. Three had brisket items, all Said they were amazing. I had the beet and goat cheese appetizer. I asked for some of their balsamic on the side. Everything about it was delicious. The balsamic was so good with the beets. The waitress was nice enough to send me home an additional container of balsamic with my leftovers. The wait staff was very nice and friendly. We will definitely be going back. This was my fourth or fifth time here and every time I go the food is amazing the people are so friendly and helpful. Super friendly downtown bar and grill, with a wrap around patio that's the perfect spot for a beer (or two) with friends, or dinner with the family. Definitely ask your server about what they are serving from the smoker they have out back. I got the ribs and they were the best I've had in a while.
