HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. When my furnace died they came and replaced it immediately, about 11 months ago. I also chose to replace the water heater at the same time. It is under warranty. But I've been without hot water for two weeks now. Their front desk person said a plumbing technician had to call me and it took me calling them several times to even get an appointment which wasn't for several days. Then they came out and said they were guessing at what was wrong but seemed unsure, said they would order a part, didn't give me a timeline, didn't try all the options. Why wouldn't they bring all the parts with them?? It's now been another week with no communication. What good is a warranty when you can't get service? And they don't have anyone except a completely useless front desk person on weekends. To say I am unhappy is an understatement. I will NEVER use them again for new work. read more

We needed our garbage disposal replaced. We provided the garbage disposal. We have used Sierra Air in the past. Replacing the garbage disposal should take, at most, one hour. We had a $75 discount card and the quote to replace the disposal was still $777. Under protest, we paid the tech the $89 dispatch fee and sent the tech on his way. Another plumbing company will be at the house replace the disposal for much less. Sierra Air charges flat rates instead of a hourly rate. That screws the customer. read more

Outstanding! Christmas Eve fell on a Sunday this year (2023) and I woke up to discover our furnace wasn't working and our house was 57°. I figured I was out of luck on getting it fixed that day. I had two strikes against me. It was a Sunday and it was Christmas Eve. I figured I wouldn't be able to get the furnace repaired until December 26th. However, since Sierra Air does routine maintenance on our furnace and air conditioner, I called them on a whim. I talked with an on-call representative, who said he would try to get someone to my house that day. He was honest and said he couldn't make any promises but guaranteed me appointment on Tuesday, December 26. About an hour later I got a call from Steve, a Sierra air service technician. He told me he was on his way to look at my furnace. I was 100% appreciative but also 100% shocked that someone was coming to look at my furnace on a Christmas Eve Sunday. Steve arrived and had the problem resolved in about an hour. He even stuck around to make sure it was working properly. He was knowledgeable, professional, and just a nice guy. We haven't had any issues with HVAC in Reno, but beware if you plan to use them in Truckee for any service. Both times, they failed to show up for appointments that were made at least a week in advance. The second time, I had to call THEM to find out the plumber just decided not to show up. I sent a certified letter to the GM, explaining why I was cancelling my Reno membership. While I did get a call back, it was from a clerk making a weak attempt to get me to reconsider. So a few years ago, our AC was blowing warm air. We called Sierra Air out to fix it. We were told we needed a whole new system costing tens of thousands of dollars! We bought a swamp cooler and have used that. Fast forward to last Friday when we went to dinner with friends. We were discussing putting the swamp cooler in again, the broken AC an etc. come to find out their son is a certified HVAC contractor and they arranged for him to come look at the AC. He flipped a switch at the breaker and all of a sudden we have air conditioning again. We had a flipped breaker and did NOT need a new system. Shame on me for not knowing that but SHAME on Sierra Air for trying to take advantage of my ignorance! I had an air distribution problem since the house was built. The master bedroom was last in line for the ducting and had insufficient air flow. I asked neighbors for a recommendation and Sierra was the overwhelming favorite. I contacted Sierra and Josh came over. He went up in the attic and mapped the entire system, went back to the office and loaded it into a computer program. Later, Tyler and Brian came out for the repairs. With the addition of three manual dampers, my airflow is perfect. Courteous and knowledgeable staff, clean work and priced right. I was working with a competitor that just quit returning my calls. I actually have 3 different reviews. I had different experiences with different staff. William did the estimate and he was very considerate. Friendly and informative. I greatly appreciate his help. Landon was the one who came to install. He did wonderful! He and his helper were patient and helpful! They were considerate of everyone in our home. And even with our dogs! Cody was a little curt. He did what he needed to do, but he wasn't too polite. I debated on how many stars to give because Cody made the experience bad. But because Will and Landon were respectful, 5 stars works. And because I was so happy to finally have central air, 5 stars works. The HVAC system works great, so 5 stars work. I do recommend that Sierra Air let their staff know they represent the company, not just themselves. read more

I have been continuously impressed with the quality of service that Sierra Air provides. Over the last 2 years, I've needed help with my older AC/furnace units multiple times, and their staff is consistently reliable, professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I have remained a loyal customer to them because of the quality of their service. This past week, I finally broke down and replaced my entire system...A/C and furnace. I received a quote on Tuesday, and the job was completed on Wednesday and Thursday! (Next day service!!!) There have been some occasions in the past when something wasn't done exactly right, and there was a problem that happened with the set up of the new equipment. I say this because while everything has not always been perfect with their work, I am still giving them 5 stars because anytime something isn't right, they have always gone above and beyond to make sure to get it right without charging me additionally. It's complicated equipment, and my prior unit was 20 years old...so for me, the most important factors in considering who I want to trust and spend my money on is 1) do I feel like I'm in good hands with their employees being in my home? 2) their level of knowledge about their job and 3) how a company follows up when I have a complaint or issue. This is a company who stands by their work. Their employees consistently respect my home. They always take the time to fully explain the situation and recommended recourse. We purchased a two year maintenance plan with Sierra Air. They were supposed to come out and inspect the heater and ac. A total of four inspections two for the ac and two for the heater. Well, they did two for the ac but only one for the heater. We disagree on what they say they did. Also, we had to have our water heater replaced and were told they would come out one a year and do an inspection, then flush the water heater. That didn't happen either. read more

Bad customer service and zero accountability. We called to request a service appointment a week in advance and were told that we would receive a call the day of the tech visit to confirm the time of said appointment. We received an automated text message the day before to confirm the appointment. On the day of the supposed appointment, we waited all day with no communication or phone call. Upon calling in, we were put on hold for 10 minutes only to be told that the technician had cancelled service because they "do not service our type of system" but that they could refer us to a different company. Gee thanks! How thoughtful Perhaps next time you can give your customer a call to let them know of the change/cancellation or at the very least, ask about the type of system being used PRIOR to setting an appointment, instead of ghosting them altogether. A little bit of effort, communication and common sense goes a long way. read more

We were having problems with our heating system including that our smart thermostat (Ecobee) kept rebooting which caused the furnace to only sporadically heat up our house. The technician who came out, Logan, is a walking encyclopedia of HVAC systems and is obviously highly skilled at troubleshooting our situation. He walked me through what we needed to do at a minimum to get our system to run properly. He also offered while explaining in understandable terminology upgrades we could do to our system to enhance and improve the furnace operation. We had been concerned about substantial dust and small particulates that seemed to be steadily coming through the vents all over the house. We decided to go with his recommendations. Equipment Upgrade Day--this was a big job: Logan and his sidekicks, Brian and Rudy, came out with the necessary equipment. All 3 technicians were highly skilled and worked efficiently to get the job done. Thanks to Logan and his crew everything is working smoothly and the equipment upgrades have noticeably improved the air quality inside our house. We feel we got good value for what we paid. If you are considering using Sierra Air for plumbing repairs be aware that they unapologetically expect you to wait for them literally ALL DAY. They won't give you a timeframe of any kind. The "customer service" rep I talked to at 3pm after waiting all day wouldn't even tell me where I was on their list. She said "that's why we give you a 15-20 arrival phone call", so nice of them to give you 15 minutes free time out of your day. She then blamed me for not giving her the chance to tell me where I was on their schedule, and still had no idea when they would arrive. How can they be so oblivious of their scheduling? After talking to them I called Ira Hansen's Plumbing (who I normally use anyway) and got a next day appointment with a 1 hour window; that's the way an organized considerate company schedules their customers. Needless to say I cancelled my appointment with Sierra Air. I gave them a shot and they blew it. Never again. read more

I called Sierra Air out to find out if they'd be able to replace the dryer vent work in my condo. I told them that the pipe went into a slab foundation and was rusted out so everything would need to be replaced. They charged me $89 to come out, tell me that the pipe was rusted, and then said they weren't even sure if they'd be able to do anything about it, but they'd talk to the boss and I'd get a call back the next day. Well, they never called me, I called a contractor, and he had it fixed within 48 hours. So I paid $89 for them to tell me information I already knew, and then ghost me. Seriously, go elsewhere, there are so many companies out there. read more

Sierra Air sent 2 guys out to inspect our furnace, that had been making a rattling noise in Spring 2025. The tech. told us that our furnace was leaking carbon monoxide, and furnace needed replacement. We got suspicious. Said no thanks. Husband bought the same meter they used to show us that there was a leak. Our brand new meter said NO LEAK. Very shabby and unethical way to do business. THey charged us for a repairman's check on our equipment. Should be reported to the BBB. read more

Previous used Sierra Air for a duct cleaning... great service. Called about a quote to repair a vent duct to replace a damper (they previously cleaned) and was told they do not work on ducts and was referred to "legacy air". Person handling the call was rude, stating "it sounds like you're mumbling" while sounding like they were having a conversation simultaneously with a coworker. Asked if they understood what service I was calling about and they stated "no" but let me check. 5 secs later was referred to their competitor. Felt like employee was having a rough day but didn't want to put in work/effort. Resulting in loss of business over a Bathroom fan motor replacement and damper service. Was planning on having a new AC unit installed in spring along with cleaning all vents but will take business to competition as result of experience. read more

If I could go negative stars I would. Do not trust Sierra Air. They inspected my furnace and the camera scope they used scratched the metal inside (not a big deal). But they said the scratch was actually a crack and I needed to immediately replace the unit. I bought a CO2 detector that registered zero (no crack and no leak) and realized they were lying. They came back out for a "reinspection" and told me again that the unit was indeed defective and dangerous and "really they should shut it down right now." Although the unit was working fine prior to their 2nd visit, after they left the unit indeed didn't work. When I went out to inspect I found that the gas valve inside had been shut off so the unit wasn't getting gas to the ignitor. Note, after I turned on the gas valve and have been using the CO2 detector, the unit has performed fine for 2 years. I've had it inspected by 2 other companies annually and in all those inspections the unit has been found in good condition. TWICE Sierra Air tried to swindle me. There's no way, no how, no ever that I'd give them a dime of my business, no matter how much their mom's like their commercials. Don't do it. read more

I'm giving them three stars because I'm averaging four stars for the response time of coming out same day and fixing our A/C same day (Weekday not a weekend or holiday though) with two stars for the fact that the price was pretty steep in my opinion. Long story short, it was the fan capacitor but the total cost was $300!! $70 for visit (we have a contract so it's a little cheaper than the typical visit charge) and $230 for labor and part! I had to work a twelve hour day the next day and we didn't notice it not working until 8pm that night and would have not had that part or I could have done it myself. That's like less than half hour of work and a maybe $20 part if that. I guess I'll order some capacitors and have them on hand so I don't get myself in this situation again. We already had got a contract with them and our first service (a/c cleaning etc) is coming up and will update review at that time. read more

It took them about 3 days to install both systems, and they did 1 furnace at a time so we could still have heat in our house. They did an excellent job and got a great discount for getting everything done at the same time. They were very professional and respectful. They made sure to clean up after themselves every day. Called to get a second opinion on a quote for a 1:1 swap out on my 22 year old air conditioner. The home advisor, Ty was very pleasant and thorough and gave me several estimates on different options for my heating/air conditioning needs. In my research, I found Sierra Air to be one of the more pricier HVAC establishments, but they appear to do a thorough job and back their service by warranties. Larger Northern Nevada company and still growing. More estimates to get and no decision made at this time. It is a "big ticket" item to consider. read more

Predatory company with no integrity. Run, don't walk, from them. We had them do a winter tune-up of the furnaces (working perfectly; just preventative maintenance) and the tech reported corrosion of the heat exchanger that was "leaking dangerous carbon monoxide levels." The carbon monoxide detector in the house reads 0, but sure. They say it's 5. That, per the CDC, is the level in a house with a well-adjusted gas range, which it has. But it's an older furnace, so it may be worth looking into a newer one as an investment in the home. The tech is not actually empowered to give any pricing information and it will require the sales rep, so that's a red flag. They send their sales rep, who immediately requests access under the house and to the attic. He doesn't check with the person living in it to see what if she has any issues with areas of the house. He reinforces the carbon monoxide story to make sure she's good and scared. He reports the ducting is an atrocious throughout the house and needs immediate work. In the end, a furnace tune-up turned into them trying to sell us two furnaces, two air conditioners, and ducting to the tune of $31k as the very low end - the bronze tier. $31,000 to replace four working units and he never checked with the resident of the home to see if she had any areas that were uncomfortable, if her bills were high, if she had any issues, etc. Call Lincoln Heating. They do one of our other houses and have been a model of honesty and integrity. Please, do yourself a favor and don't even bother with Sierra. If you do, get a carbon monoxide detector with a digital readout ($45 at Home Depot) to save yourself $30.9k. If you don't believe me, read the reviews from the last two years. I observed No heat from the furnace. I contacted Sierra and was impressed by their excellent Yelp ratings. During the 1st visit, the tech spent close to 90 minutes and was informed heating was fixed, only to find the same night that the heating was again not working. I was charged close to $250 for this visit. The next day I called, and they said we would have to order the board and see if that would fix the issue. Tech visited again, installed some pressure switches, billed me close to $300, and said things were fixed. Again the same night, things are broken. The next day I called, and they sent a tech and suggested that I needed a new furnace and redo the ducting, they quoted roughly $25,000, and they will open walls, floors, and ceiling, and I will need to redo the sheetrock, flooring, and paint work myself. I said no way. Found another local HVAC renowned company in Truckee, they fixed it all for $650, and it has been working fine ever since. read more

Had a Panasonic Split Unit that wasn't putting out cold air. Dwayne was our service tech. He called ahead and arrived at time estimate given. Good start. Our AC hasn't been used for a few years; it was a tad old as well. I didn't have high hopes, but it was pretty clear the compressor wasn't running. Dwayne tried a bunch of the usual things (pressure switch override, etc). He wasn't absolutely certain the compressor was dead since it wasn't shorted... it wasn't getting the right voltage? Could be a bad control board (costly) or maybe the compressor (even more costly!). We started to talk about options (and he says, "let me check to see if there is anything else I can do...". The guy was super relentless on trying to get the unit to work, other techs (from prior experience) would have just said time to get your big wallet out... Nope, this guy is going to figure it out and have a problem-solving victory (and less costly solution fix). Sure enough he checks "every" wire connector on the control board and finds two wires that were chewed through (disconnected) that some critter had fun with! Does a patch up on the wires. We now have the right voltage going to compressor - and poof - a little more refrigerant and we have a working AC unit again. The bill charge was a couple hundred. Pretty reasonable in my mind with a great finish. Result: One customer for life just created... and big thank you to Dwayne for staying on finding a fix in an honest/ethical way of servicing a customer. read more

Frustrated with this company. My furnace worked fine until I signed up for their home comfort 20.00 month plan. Not sure what they did when they went into my attic but the next day, AC blowing into my bedroom had different air flow and not cooling as before. Called them back but had to pay this time 80.00 to have them go back up into attic and move things back into place. Winter comes and they call me to do winter servicing. Everything working good on my end until tech shows up to inspect and again goes back up into my attic and next day, same thing happens - air flow all messed up and now I am either freezing or over heating. I change thermostat one degree higher and I am burning up, I turn it one degree lower and I am freezing and heater doesn't kick on for the bathroom. I call tech and he says well you have older air conditioner and you need a 2 step system for 25,000. What? Yep and if I do it by the end of the month, I get a discount - just like a car salesman. So in my experience, the company feels like a scam. I am freezing in my house after the tech went into my attic and I don't know what they are doing up there but the remedy they offer is ONLY a new AC System. We closed escrow on a home in SLT late August. So far, we used Sierra Air for thorough vent cleaning (including dryer vent), full Heater check and service, and then last week we had them reinsulate all of the heating ducts in the crawl space. Not only did they work diligently all day to finish the work, but they went out of their way to clean up the crawl space (from a previous hibernating bear). In addition, their bid was reasonable and about $1000 less than a previous bid from another company. Shout out to Kevin, who gave us the bid and held to the price of the estimate and for his patience in all the million questions we asked, as well as his prompt communication. They provided pictures of the finished work in the crawl space as well. We will continue to use Sierra Air for our service/maintenance needs and whatever other issues may arise. read more

We have a service agreement with Sierra Air. During the recent hot weather in early August of 2024 in Lake Tahoe, our A/C stopped working. Because of the heat, Sierra had a backlog of a week. A local A/C tech was available the next day and diagnosed a bad capacitor, replaced it, and the system began to work again. Fast forward to the end of August and the system stopped working again. I called Sierra and they sent out a tech, Eugene, the same day! Eugene, listened to the system as it attempted to start, but failed to work. He diagnosed a different problem and showed me the actual trouble -- the blower in our 17-year old furnace had begun to seize up. Eugene thought he might be able to get the part locally, but, instead, it was in Reno. Most techs, at this point, would mention needing to get the part and return on another day. Eugene made trip to Reno and back and completed the repair on this same day. Once the repair was complete, the difference was obvious -- the system was now operating whisper quiet, rather than noisily, as it had before. The price of the repair justified the service agreement-- a modest site visit fee plus the cost of the part. This is another excellent experience we have had with this wonderful company (they performed the complicated install of our A/C system six years earlier). Their techs are knowledgeable, professional, and diligent -- all the qualities we experienced with Eugene, who, I believe, went above and beyond the call of duty to rectify our issue. This is not to mention that Eugene may be the most polite service tech I have ever met -- he is a very fine gentleman. When heat waves come, wait times will be extended. I cannot fault Sierra for that reality. What I can say, is that Sierra has always gotten the job done for us in the last six years we have signed on with them. I asked for a bid primarily from Sierra and Yelp put it out to an additional 4 companies. thus I got contacted within 24 hours from all 5. My only request was how much is a spring tune up. the ONLY ONE that actually answered the question was Sierra. The rest were evasive, wanted to talk further, add travel time, quote an hourly rate that was nebulous because they didn't tell me how many hours it would take. I just wanted an answer to a question ... that's all. Sierra got my business and I signed up for their service plan too. they have yet to come out but they are obviously into doing business in a professional manor and with all the good things I've heard about them I'm sure it will be a long and pleasurable relationship. read more
