Overall, the food is mediocre and overpriced. The staff is very odd and unfriendly. I've been leered at in the morning and completely ignored at other times. I order catering from Silo Cafe for group lunches at work. Everything tastes good! The prices are good also. I tasted the ham & cheese sandwich, macaroni salad, and garden salad. Yum! The garden salad had fresh grape tomatoes and cucumbers. Last week I ordered the pesto salad w/ mozzarella . Good also! They're on time too when I order the morning of. I work across the street and come here most mornings for breakfast. They make pretty much anything you want and have tons of yogurt, fruit, and drinks ready to grab and go. They also have a lot of lunch options available (sandwiches, noodles, sushi, salads). The guys that work here are the nicest, hardest working guys around. It gets hectic around 830-9ish for the breakfast rush and the employees are as quick as is humanly possible to cook on demand. The woman at the cash register is very sweet as well. I am not a big Yelp reviewer but wanted to give these guys a shoutout as their management supported the guys when they were out for the Day Without Immigrants protests. This place is my office's to go spot whenever we have nowhere to go or eat. Always clean and the options are great. Price is good as well compared to a couple other places in midtown east. Buffett, Sandwiches, salads, sushi, teriyaki, etc..... I probably hit this place up once a week. read more

I'm really late on reviewing this place as honestly I've been going here for quite some time - not because it's great but because my office building is next door. Okay first of all DON'T come here after 2 PM .. the food is just gross and they make zero attempt to keep it fresh. Otherwise the 12-1:40 time range is fine. They have a huge variety of average tasting food. Watch out for any funky coloring. They definitely aren't the most sanitary, the works aren't particularly nice, but it's a good place to get over priced (typical city prices) average mixed food. They do have some good choices such as the cooked mushrooms & baked potatoes. The salmon is also pretty good. Their salad side needs work as everything seems to be dripping and marinated is oil/sauce. Either way.. just use common sense and you should be good! read more

It's like my work cafeteria yet I never say things like, "I wish they had..." or "I'm bored with...". Pretty good prices. Decent food bar. Whenever I have a seminar nearby I would come to this place. This is a great lunch eat. The place is very clean and has a variety of food. There is a hot/cold buffet, a line for soups, pizza, sandwiches, Korean food and sushi. The only downfall is that there are limited number of seats. read more

This is my go-to spot for quick weekday lunches. It's fast, friendly and well-priced. My favorite item from the hot bar is the roasted salmon. But, its everyone else's favorite item too, so head over early if you want some. They usually sell out by 1:30. Another favorite is the salad prep bar. It's really quick, fresh ingredients and not too pricey. This place is super delicious, but everytime I get a salad, I get overcharged. Make sure you count your toppings with your fingers in front of the dude's face when he's making it or he will invent a number of toppings to charge you for. read more

I work in the building and come here all the time. To be fair, I've really only ordered from the make-your-own-salad bar, and haven't tried the sandwiches or sushi or any of that. However, I highly recommend this place for salads! The line can get long around 12/1... but it moves super quickly, and the guy who works behind the salad bar is awesome! In the end, salads cost around $7-10, which is a bit pricey, but probably standard for NYC. One big plus is that there is plenty of seating in the 'atrium' area of the building, right by Silo Cafe. The food isnt bad and the buffet is actually pretty good but the people that work there are terrible. The guys that work at the grill don't realize that its 2017 and about 28% of NYers speak Spanish. The language and comments in spanish they make towards customers, especially women is truly scary. Even when confronted by a customer behind me in line the two continued to make comments about a women that were very inappropriate. I would stay away. read more

Despite a questionable health inspection review last year, I work near Silo and I think it has some merit. I stay away from most steam table/buffet situations, as I'm terrible at the "pay by weight" system that I can't game properly. The create-your-own-pasta bar is great and the main draw for me. It's also a more generous portion for the money than Europa's version. The udon is also tasty and a large portion you can have for under $7 (if you order the veggie version). No, this isn't the best food in the 'hood and the ladies at the register can be icy, but a lot of times it satisfies at lunch. Breakfast sandwiches/platters are okay here too, but the staff seems to get overwhelmed easily if there are too many orders being placed at once. read more

I used to love Silo when I started working in the area almost three years ago, but over the last 8 months I've been left more than frustrated. In the morning when I come for a sandwich there isn't any turkey back and they refuse to cook additional pieces despite it being 9:30 am and deep in the breakfast rush. At lunch by 2pm the same situation...fryer or grill is turned off or your only grill options are what's left out. Where is the customer service in not extending yourself? I know they have more meat, cheese or what have you for the next day so how does it hurt to reach in and make it for me. Let me start off by saying I love this place for breakfast and lunch. Every one of the guys behind the counters are really nice and very accommodating to whatever you ask. I often choose the salad bar food and have never gotten anything that tastes old, refrigerated, or drowned in too many condiments. It is always fresh and very tasty (hat's off to the chef). But, there's a big however here....twice in the last two weeks, I have chosen salad bar food that included red and green peppers, and both times I discovered a sticky label still on the pepper. Gross. My thought here is: Are they not washing the vegetables they are using? Eeewwww. Or was someone just too lazy to peel if off? Either thought grosses me out. The first time, I let it go figuring, "Ok, it can happen." But twice! I see a pattern here and while I will not stop eating here, rest assured I will never pick anything that has peppers in it again. Although it does bring me to the question: "If they didn't wash the peppers, do they not wash any of the other vegetables they use in salads"? Very disappointing to a loyal customer to say the least. If not for this issue, I would have given 4 stars because the food it that good. read more

Silo had a price chart at their cashier that I used on 7/19/12 to calculate the cost of my breakfast wrap, egg whites, cheese, lettuce & tomato: Egg Whites sandwich/ Wrap $1.95 with Cheese add $ .75 with Lettuce & Tomato add $ .50 (I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE CHART) I went to the area where they prepare food to place my order. When I saw that I was charged $3.75, I asked why. The cashier told me that the chart was incorrect & that the correct prices were displayed at the counter where I ordered. I explained that I did not see the new prices & that I based my cost on the chart above the cashier. She explained that the tortilla was an extra $0.50, egg whites $2.00 & lettuce & tomato $1.00. I complained that this was false advertising but she would not budge. When I paid with a credit card, the cashier gave me only the credit card slip. When I asked for the itemized cash register receipt, she refused. When I tried to take a picture of the new prices at the counter, the cook took it away. I spoke to the manager & he refused to budge. After I ate, I went back & took a photo of the chart at the counter. As I review my photo, there is no mention of a breakfast egg whites wrap w/cheese & lettuce & tomato. Since I am a senior citizen living on a fixed income, it is doubly upsetting to me that they are overcharging without displaying their correct prices. read more
