Beware of ticketed events. We purchased two tickets to the Billy Joel tribute band and were surprised by the venue layout which not only violated fire code but did not allow for all people to be in the room the band played in. Seated tables remained in the room while the band played and if you did not take it upon yourself to move chairs from upstairs down to fill the spaces in the room, you could not be in the room for the event, since every space was covered by tables or chairs with no standing room. We paid $50 to sit on a couch upstairs from the band with no view. This set up was not mentioned when we were seated upstairs for our 6 PM dinner reservation. Service was decent but the server often got drinks and entrees confused for our party of 8. I ordered the rare tuna sandwich which was overcooked with a soggy, disintegrated bun on the bottom. The grapefruit crush purchased at the downstairs bar had little more than a splash of vodka. I would consider this a one off if I hadn't had the same experience, along with other patrons, with that bar for an event back in June. I would not return here for a ticketed event and would caution others to confirm the venue arrangement before purchasing tickets. read more

I used to love this place for brunch. My experience today was less than disappointing. Apparently, they have gotten a new chef. The entire menu has changed and not for the better. The new idea for brunch is adding eggs to protein on the regular menu, adding it to a separate sheet of paper, and labeling it brunch. Not only are the menu options bad, it is not tasty. I really didn't want to recall that extremely unpleasant experience, but the attitude of the restaurant co-owner and manager was so poor that it compels criticism. On Monday, August 19th, a group of twelve of us had a gathering, so we went to that restaurant to enjoy the Happy Hour deal and the half-price wine bottle promotion they advertised on their website for Mondays. Issue 1: The waitress who attended to us was completely unaware of any discount policies. She had to go inside to consult with the manager before providing us with a brief Happy Hour menu. Issue 2: We initially selected a few higher-priced red and white wines from the wine list. The waitress took our order and went to fetch the wine, but she returned saying that all our selections were sold out. We made several other higher-priced choices, but each time we were informed that those wines were also sold out. In the end, we could only choose a few of the cheapest wines. This outcome was very suspicious, as it seemed the restaurant didn't actually intend to let us enjoy the full benefit of the half-price wine promotion. Issue 3: The waitstaff who came to serve the wine were completely unaware that it is customary to let the customer taste a newly opened bottle of wine to ensure it hasn't gone bad due to improper storage. It's surprising that a restaurant of such scale would have staff lacking basic training. Issue 4: The discount snacks offered only six or seven options, and the portions were very small. However, given the limited price and acceptable taste, they were still acceptable. What was difficult to understand and accept was that midway through the meal, a large man suddenly glared at us unfriendly and rudely snatched the discount menu from our table without a word. Initially, I thought this person was just another rude customer who urgently needed the menu and took it from our table to use, so I didn't think much of it. Later, when we wanted to order more food, we asked the waitress to bring the menu back after that person had finished ordering. Who knew that the waitress would inform us that this man was actually a co-owner of the restaurant? Since the co-owner seemed to be specifically targeting us with a very poor attitude, we wanted to ask him what he was upset about before we left. However, the waitress later told us that the owner had already left and that we could talk to the manager if we had any concerns, to which we agreed. But after waiting a while, the waitress came back to say that the manager was on the phone and then later that the manager was in a meeting and couldn't talk to us. The dining and service at the restaurant were far from ideal and not really worth mentioning. However, the attitude of the restaurant owner and the manager's shirking of responsibilities must be commented on. All of us in the group were over seventy years old, with half of us being women, so it's unlikely that we caused any disturbance due to being too noisy. The issue must have been caused by the Happy Hours and wine discounts. If the restaurant doesn't want customers to enjoy special discounts, why not just cancel them? Instead, they made all sorts of excuses not to provide the promotions after customers arrived or showed displeasure at customers taking advantage of the discounts. How could they not expect to receive a bad review? One star for the nice outdoor setting. Zero star for the rest. read more

BEWARE eating here! We ordered the Corn Tamale Bites and they were literally RAW inside - uncooked batter! When I mentioned it to the server, she just took them away and said she would take them off our bill. No apology. Entrees were okay, underwhelming flavor. We then ordered coffee. Server said she would make a fresh pot. Not true, coffee was literally burnt. Had to send back, so no coffee. Took that off the bill. Then our check arrived and was paid while I left the table. After double checking the detailed receipt, I noticed they still charged us $13.50 for the uncooked Corn Tamale Bites. I told our server and she left for a long time. She finally came back to say her manager credited the entire bill, then charged the same credit card again without the bites. I had to ask for the paper receipt to show proof of this. Lovely mansion turned restaurant/bar. Would love to take the tour the next time we are there. It was Friday night and we had called a week before and a day before to see if reservations were required. We were told no twice, so we showed up at 7:00 p.m. We made sure we were dressed according to the suggestion on their website which said business attire. Men had to wear collared shirts so the husband begrudgingly put on a button down shirt on one of the hottest days of the year. When we arrived, we noticed quite a few people wearing shorts and t shirts. We were asked if we had reservations and that all the tables were taken. We were told we could sit at the bar. Luckily, it was exactly the bar but the bar area with high tables and bar stools. Okay, not a bad option. Someone came by and told us that because it was 7:00 p.m. and happy hour ends at that time, she could get our orders in if we know what we wanted. We quickly perused the happy hour menu and order the one pound mussels and two steak fajita quesadillas (yep, both for hubby), and a side order of the seasonal vegetables. Really grateful for the lady who got was able to get our order in because those mussels were excellent. I enjoyed also enjoyed the broth of tomatoes, garlic, and onions. It was a nice portion of the seasonal vegetables (zucchini). I dropped a star because it was very loud in not only the bar area but the entire dining area. I hope they will work on some sound proofing in the main dining area if not the bar. But it was a lovely place. It was picturesque and I can see having a private event here such as wedding there. Good options for beer and wine and spirits. Quaint space - many little dining rooms, event rooms, and the bar area. Bar area has large TVs with sports or news. The bathroom indicates wheelchair accessibility, but that is not accurate. It is possible to squish in, but quite challenging and can't be done without assistance. Love the setting and atmosphere. Food is not amazing but pretty good. What really lacks though is the service, which is consistently terrible. Every time we have been here we end up waiting FOREVER for either the food, the bill, dessert...and there's always a group of servers just standing around chatting by the front entrance. Not sure who is managing this place, but they're paying for a lot of servers to do a lot of standing around. We went for the St Patrick's day event and we wanted to have the same experience as October fest but ended up in a back room away from music. New update: Just returned from there tonight and this was the 2nd worst experience I have ever had. Usually go for happy hour and sit at bar but was full and ended up in a side table, asking the waitress multiple times if we can get happy hour here she said yes, sat us, grabbed some menus and said she will be right back. After looking at the menus, none of them were happy hour menus. Five minutes later she came back and we asked for happy hour menu. She dropped that off and said I'll be right back, after five minutes again and passing us multiple times, she came and took our order. Order two drinks, happy hour shrimp and happy hour mussels. The shrimp came out, extremely hard to peel and extremely overcooked inedible. They came out with out mussels and a second order of shrimp, which we did not order, again shrimp was just as overcooked and in edible as the first batch. Looking at the mussels, they were not even open, out of the whole bowl the two that actually did open were complete mush inside. After 10 minutes of waiting, our waitress came back asking how everything was, and we explained the food was inedible and asked for our check. She said oh OK, took plates and walked away. Someone showed up asking what happen, when we explain to him what happened, he apologize and explained that he just started four hours ago and heard that we did not like our food and wanted to know what he could do. He said OK let me go find somebody, he came back stating he couldn't find somebody and then he said OK. Let me see if we can get your drinks taken off which he finally did. The only person that came to our table was the person who started four hours before this. We never received a visit from a manager, an owner or even our waitress. I attended a 85th birthday party for my mother in law in August. You definitely don't get your money worth for the price. The food was bad, the chicken was dry and the 2x2 inch of salmon was dry. I heard the food tasting was better than the food that was served. This place is overrated and I will never eat there again. The server limit your portions and were not very pleasant. When you pay for 180 guest you should prepare enough food for the guests. They tan out of some foods ‍The food was better when it was owned by Brookville Inn. Ridiculous prices - I attended a event Manhattan and Margaritas ($25.00 per person to attend). The event was a madhouse, two bartenders for over 50 people in a cramped room (awful for enjoying the band) most seats were not in the same area of the band!!!!! They were so busy with actually serving people they didn't even give me a receipt to sign and simply walked away when I asked. Really makes me think fraud was the end game for this place!! The bill for 1 beer and a 4oz. Soda was $15.00. This is beyond unreasonable!!! I'm really shocked that this establishment has the nerve to charge insane prices and have such a crappy venue!! Only the first 30 people who were all standing in front of the stage could actually see the show. Will discourage all events there in the future!!! read more

I was very disappointed with Silo Falls. I booked a Valentine's Day reservation on their website and when I arrived they told me the reservation would not be honored. It was almost impossible to find an alternate location to dine and the staff did not even attempt to accommodate us. Worked with Lydia, the events manager, to coordinate a holiday party for my Moms club. She was super helpful and responsive in helping us to plan the best event possible for our group. SF has an awesome little side room adjacent to the bar, that allowed us to have our own space, but still feel part of the action. They were hopping on a Thursday night! Our server Benjamin smoothly managed 16 guests, especially by helping us to coordinate our different checks. He never dropped a beat. He was very friendly and quick to fulfill requests/make helpful recommendations. As far as food, we ordered mainly appetizers, & one salad. We enjoyed the winter flatbread, mussels, crab/artichoke dip, brussel sprouts, chicken quesadillas, shrimp, chicken tenders and strawberry spinach salad. I would say our top two favorites were the sprouts and flatbread. The shrimp were good, but the breading was thick and fell off when trying to eat it. Everything else was exactly as expected/hoped. The prices for drinks were great, in line with many neighboring restaurants, while some even seemed more affordable. We are so excited to plan future events for our club, to try more food and cocktails. I think that The Manor at Silo Falls is a great addition to the Olney/Brookeville community. read more

I debated leaving a bad review, but it's clear from other reviews that they have a pattern of abysmal service. My friend and I went for lunch today at noon. Things started off well, but quickly went downhill. Apparently there was a wedding party inside, so we thought maybe the bad service was due to that, but seems like this is par for the course at this restaurant. My friend ordered a soup & salad, and I ordered a hamburger. Guess what. The waitress put hers in as appetizers and mine as lunch (??), so I waited 20-30 mins for my food to come out AFTER my friend got her food. One thing to note, I am 7 MONTHS PREGNANT. For the sake of my friend, I tried VERY HARD not to get hangry. Waitress also said she'd check for a nonalcoholic drink with the bartender--never happened--and bring us dessert menus after I asked--also never happened. We didn't see the waitress again for a LONG time. I went inside to use the bathroom and asked another waiter for dessert menus. I also served my friend and I more water. The waitress apologized twice for bad service (??). Seems they have events here pretty often, soo not sure what the problem is. Either get more staff or don't open the restaurant when there are big events. No discount on our bill, which would've been a nice touch. Even a small discount. For such a beautiful location and expensive menu (obviously we didn't order expensive food today), you'd think the service would be way, way better. read more

Went this afternoon to enjoy their summer band series. 'Off Color' band was playing and having so much fun singing and dancing post-Covid! Unfortunately, at 5:30pm today (Sunday), someone came on stage and said the band had to stop due to neighbor complaints! Rest of the live music evening was cancelled at 530pm on a sunny, Sunday afternoon. This must be appealed by management/owners with the county and neighborhood, or else I don't see how there can be any outdoor music or venues here. Sad and disappointing. I want to recommend this place but it's so hit and miss! It comes down to service, and it's such a shame because the location is great, and it's not a chain, and I can bring my kids. That being said, we usually do spend quite a bit to come here because we like to order beer or wine, an app, entrees and a desert for the children. So when it takes 15 minutes for someone to bring us water and a drink menu, it's not fun. We had to flag down our waiter many times and ask if we could order a bottle of wine. Then every time we put an order in, the busboy who runs the food out doesn't seem to know where the food goes and you watch it walk around the patio or dining area. I feel bad for him. I just don't feel like it's worth the value and the time commitment. I hope they get some more help. read more

I drove past it twice because I wasn't expecting it to be a quaint little house, but was very impressed when I walked up to see the set up! I went a couple months ago and the tables were all spread out which made it feel super "safe" and covid friendly. There were a good amount of people walking around but my friend and I still felt like we were in our own spot on a farm. A live band started playing which added to the ambiance. The food was good, limited menu which is to be expected now-a-days, but was good nonetheless. Ordering got to be a little out of hand once more people started showing up because the line would wrap almost around the building at times. This of course due to social distancing, but it did discourage us a little. Good time good food and great ambiance so I can't wait to get back once the word goes back to normal. read more

Beautiful property! Looks like it would be perfect for a local wedding. They do not make beer but sell bottles, drafts and mixed drinks. They all seem to be reasonably priced. We came here as a going away hoorah for a friend. This was after silo falls was shut down for an employee who had Covid. As much as they post signs and have tables spread out, it is hard to implement the rules. There was so many people there the day we went. They had straws and things out at a table separate from the bar. This would be fine if there wasn't a disease killing thousands of people who have basically cross contaminated. It seemed like the bartenders/staff were overwhelmed/way too busy to actually care about safety. My husband and my friend waited in line snd ordered drinks. I was able to explore the ground with my son/keep him busy. It looked really gorgeous at night. I assume it looks even better in daylight. There was a live band in the gazebo. Tables were spread out all over lawn. Some tables had more than the allotted number of people. Wood was available for purchase If you say at a table with a fire pit. It was a pretty cool atmosphere. If only I saw more employees checking on people/implementing Covid safety rules. read more

My husband took me here for lunch to celebrate my 40th birthday. Their property is beautiful and it was a lovely day to eat outside. We chose to take the food "to go" and head to the back area where there are spaced out tables and chairs. Our crab cakes were divine but I think the real star of the show was the melon/cucumber salad. Wow. That was awesome. Back to the crab cakes - all crab and so good!! We got salads instead of fries and that was perfect. If there was one tiny gripe it's that I wish it was more eco-friendly to go containers. The restaurant is lovely and the service was very accommodating. The cream of crab soup was great, not too much Old Bay seasoning which is common. I know many enjoy that, I don't. The main course was good, just a little bland. The creme brulee was okay as well, just would not have used as much sugar for the crust and I would not have used apples as garnish.
