This may be one of the only tourist-y places in the world that serves amazing food! Been a couple times now, both dine-in and take-out, and never have been disappointed. The first time, my fiance and I ordered a whirlpool wonder and build-your-own pizza with olive oil base, cheese and bacon (yes, we had leftovers) in the actual restaurant! Wait time was 0 minutes because we chose to sit at the bar. During other busy times (dinner), maybe 15-45 mins wait. The whirlpool wonder is basically the kitchen sink, a nod to the Whirlpool corporation located in Benton Harbor who makes all sorts of appliances. The pizza, filled to the crust with toppings, did not disappoint! For indecisive eaters, this is the best choice on the menu. The cheese and bacon pizza was a tad salty, but paired perfectly with the GIGANTIC schooners of beer! The second time, we ordered take-out via the phone. Note, you cannot order at the actual take-out counter after 5pm (prime dinner time). You have to call in. Before going to the beach, take a look at the menu at the counter and remember your order. Call in about 20 mins before packing your towel up and it'll be ready to go once you reach the counter! We tried the parugula pizza because I LOVE prosciutto (eat it as snack every day) and arugula! Personally thought that it could have used more arugula, but overall, was a great pizza. The meat portion was very good. In terms of sizes, small is enough for one person's meal. Mediums are good for one person's meal + one leftover OR two peoples' meals (speaking averages here, not olympic athletes haha). If you're in St. Joe you have to eat here. Best thin crust pizza around. Generous with toppings. Their regular cheese pizza is out of this world if you hate toppings. My favorite specialty pizza is The Boom if you're looking for something adventurous- it has fried shrimp and a ton of yummy raw veggies and a sweat and spicy sauce on top - not your average pizza. Great pizza! Cold drinks! Fun town! My family and I look forward to visiting Silver Beach pizza every year on our annual trip to Michigan. There is usually quite a long wait but they text you when your seat is available so with all of the great things to do nearby that's usually not a problem. This year we actually got in within 30 minutes right around 1 o'clock. My kids say this is their favorite pizza in the whole world and look forward to it every year. Plus they get a little dough ball to play with while we wait. Sometimes the Amtrak comes in while we're there and they get to see the train close up which is also very exciting for them. They have a good selection of beers on tap and a variety of cocktails if that is your thing. I usually get the ham and pineapple pizza but they have a lot of different toppings that you could put on which I've tried. The French dip sandwich is really good too but it is huge and you could probably share it with somebody else. Also the wedge salad is delicious and could easily feed two or three people. After you've had your pizza and moved your car be sure not to put your box of leftovers down on the hill by the awesome spray park because the ants will definitely find it and ruin your delicious leftovers. read more

OK, if you want pizza and you are in Saint Joseph, MI there is no other place to go but Silver Beach Pizza. Heck, if you are within 50 miles of St. Joe, go to Silver Beach Pizza. Not sure how they do it but it is one of the best I have ever tasted. This place is so popular that when people come into town the first thing they want to do is go here. Beyond just the food, atmosphere and great service, I will say the ambiance is fantastic. If you are a "local" you are bound to see many people you know and the ability to stroll along the beach afterward is fantastic. In the summer it gets very crowded so be prepared to wait but it is well worth it. I went there Thursday night with a business coworker and we enjoyed the evening. Great pizza, nice beer, marvelous view. It was a treat to stop here on my way back from Grand Rapids to Indianapolis. We sat up in the 21+ section on a beautiful June afternoon. The breeze felt heavenly as we drank our Bell's 2 Hearted schooners. We ordered a greek salad and the garlic greek pizza - both exceeded our expectations. The salad was refreshing and crisp with an oregano vinaigrette. Feta and olives were generous. The pizza was slightly spicy and delicious. I like this place a lot. I wish it would open a second location because it gets super busy with up to an hour and a half wait times during the summer months. (DANG TOURISTS. I JUST WANT PIZZA!) It sucks that the upper deck is 21+ but I guess it makes it feel more secluded and mature up there. Who cares I'll be 21 in a few years anyways. I feel like there is like 1000 workers in there. This place was super hyped up so we were excited to try it. We went to sit down in the winter and it was so crowded. Our waitress only brought 1 water? The pizza took forever to come out and we asked for ranch. Our waitress never came back to check on us - to see if we needed that ranch or a beer refill. I had to go to the bar to get the ranch before I could start eating my cold pizza. Then it took 30 mins after we finished eating to get our bill. Update: I am extremely impressed with the response of this establishment in regards to my concerns below. The follow-through was instantaneous. Because of that, I updated my rating, as it is clear that the owner truly cares about his business and his employees. First of all, I will say that the atmosphere is awesome. We had a front row seat to the sun going down! Now onto the food. The cauliflower bites were amazing. We also ordered the Greek bruschetta, and it would've been absolutely stellar however it was severely lacking olive oil. If you are going to offer a Greek dish, I would definitely serve it with olive oil. We asked the server for some, and at our table he casually looked around and said I'm not seeing any right now. We then ordered the David pizza, and to our own misunderstanding, and did not realize that it doesn't come with cheese. So we cannot really complain because it does state that in the menu. It would've been great with cheese. Finally, we ordered the jerk chicken sandwich. It was really good. Lastly, onto service. Sadly, this is where our experience took a dive. Our server, who was working in the bar, while attentive, was just not friendly. It seemed like everything was a chore, and sadly at a place like this service should not be the determining factor of a poor experience. I don't know if it's because we really weren't drinking Or what, but he just seemed annoyed to even deal with us. We asked about something regarding our food, he had some excuse as to why they didn't have it or he couldn't find it. If you're telling me that a pizza place does not have olive oil, I am shocked. The calzone was amazing! Homemade sauce was truly homemade and we loved it! The parking was a little confusing but the atmosphere is so neat. They did a great job on making the place their own while also keeping the train station roots. Around there is so much to do within walking distance (beach, discovery center, carousel, park, sightseeing, downtown, etc.). Being a mom I always judge places based on their kid friendliness and bathrooms. This place exceeded my expectations on both of those. This is located just a few blocks down from the beach and part of the train station. It was large, bustling, and the line was out the door. So we did all of our walking around first, then went to put our name in, which was our strategic mistake. We checked in at 8:45 on a Saturday night and still had an hour long wait to get a table. They contact you through your phone when your reservation is up, and if you have the free app, it lets you know where you are in line. So it would have been better to check in first, and poke around the area while we waited. There are also benches outside to sit on while you wait, though we did get bothered a bit by creepy slobbering drunk guys. There is also an upper deck that is 21 and over that takes reservations up to 2 weeks in advance. There is a parking lot behind the place, but it's small and crowded, and they do offer $5 off the check if you park in the city lot. Beach parking was $10 daily fee for non-residents, and even though we got back to our car late, you can still get out of the lot. The drink menu has a nice selection of cocktails and craft beers. We had shrimp jammers and cheese garlic bread for appetizers, which were both decent. It was followed by two pizzas, the margherita and the palladium (a 4 cheese blend). The margherita was good, but the palladium was phenomenal. Our (awesome) server told us afterwards that sometimes people request "the palladium cheese" on other specialty pizzas as well, so other toppings are added to that. I was also incredibly impressed that they not only have gluten-free crust but daiya cheese for pizzas. There was no need for allergy considerations the night I visited, but my mom can't eat gluten or dairy. Gluten-free crust you can find once in a while, but I've never seen a dairy-free cheese offered before. They also have gluten-free appetizers (GF pitas with hummus, GF garlic bread, and GF bruschetta). read more

They have a little take-out window outside where you can order. We do this and the pizzas are ready fast and we eat them at a picnic table or on the beach. We were not disappointed. I love thin crust pizza. While not the thinnest, the ends were crispy like I prefer. The sauce was slightly sweet. The cheese was a blend that was excellent.
