They included butter and jelly. Hasbrown potatoes were heavy with turmeric like Indian food. I didn't mind it but really wanted a traditional breakfast meal like Silver Diner. The tea plus lemonade tasted terrible as if someone sweated it in so I couldn't drink any more without feeling sick and had to get a drink from the hotel.

For example, yesterday, I had their Peter's Special, a sandwich made from 1/2 lb of pastrami and 1/2 lb of corned beef. Except that it's not "a" sandwich, but three, all on delicious rye bread, each with its own pickle, and a small helping of slaw, sauerkraut, and a major pile of salad. It was my lunch yesterday; the remaining two sandwiches are my lunch today and tomorrow. That's three meals for $30, which, to me, is a reasonable price. The problem was that the more they do to create the food, the less flavorful it is. For example, on another recent visit, I had their Country Style Omelet. Again, it was huge and contained everything that goes into a great omelet. Except, there wasn't a lot of flavor. And that seems to be the theme. I grabbed a slice of their 24-layer cake and, again, big but not much taste beyond sweetness. If you crave a lot of food, then this might be the spot for you. However, if you prefer less and more, smaller portions with better, more nuanced flavor, then maybe try one of the other nearby restaurants.

My train's departure wasn't until 7:15 a.m. and at 5:45 a.m. the Lyft driver dropped me off at the Amtrak station, which is not open until 6 a.m. With at least an hour of waiting time, I headed a block down King Street to see what breakfast was like at Bob & Edith's Diner, located at 1743 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314. This early in the morning, the sidewalks and streets were pretty much empty, save for one of those large tourist buses that was parked in front of the restaurant, empty. I'm guessing the only customer in the restaurant other than me was the bus operator, busy reading a newspaper over coffee. My goal was to order a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a Philly sub roll ($9.99) to take with me on the train. The menu - featuring all manner of comfort food for any meal - was impressive. The dining area and restrooms were clean and spacious; service was attentive without being intrusive, and noise levels were low enough to allow inside-voice conversations. The sandwich was wrapped to go and smelled heavenly at 6 a.m. After boarding my train I headed to the café car, bought an orange juice, and sat down to eat the sandwich. Still warm, the meal was perfect! I've lived in Alexandria for about 15 years, and this is the first time I'd visited Bob & Edith's Diner under its current management. This is their only weakness, otherwise to find a 24 diner in Old town at a reasonable price just made my day.

Just note that in the name of "transparency" the prices are hiding the actual costs behind this fee. If you want to round it out to 20% with a tip, at least the fee tells you exactly how much that is. I have to assume the 10% fee is going to increased wages because that's what I82 is about. If the restaurant group is pocketing any of that balance then they are just stealing from their staff, which might explain why the staff is not upfront about the rationale for the fee.

Medium-well makes this dish and steak overcooked by the time it's delivered to you. This was the case for me. The sirloin steak was a bit on the tough side...as know as chewy. lol Other than this, I have nothing but great things to say about my first visit to this establishment. The customer service was on point and everyone was so friendly. This!...& the Chicken n' Waffles dish won me over. We left pretty full and satisfied....which was a little disappointing because the desserts in the display cases looked amazing and I really wanted to dive-in on one of them! Looks like our evening took an unexpected turn from ramen dreams to diner delights! Who knew that a closed door at the neighboring ramen joint would lead us straight to the welcoming arms of Silver Diner? We settled into the spacious and inviting atmosphere, making a beeline for the bar where the real magic happened. Connie, our bartender/server extraordinaire, was an absolute gem. With a smile brighter than my freshly painted nails, she made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Now, onto the star of the show: the happy hour menu. Let me tell you, it was a culinary carnival! The old bay shrimp danced on our taste buds with their perfect seasoning and crispy fry. And those crab cake sliders? They're so good, they should come with a warning label--'cause once you taste them, you'll never want to share! But wait, there's more! The wings were fried to crispy perfection, and the drink selection had us feeling like kids in a candy store. Whoever thought up this happy hour deserves a medal. In short, we came for happy hour and left with hearts full of gratitude for Connie's hospitality and bellies full of deliciousness. I stopped by Silver Diner recently and decided to try the Super Lump Crab Meat Pasta. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much. I figured it would be salty like a lot of seafood pasta dishes can be. But wow, it totally surprised me. The flavor was on point. The sauce was creamy but not too heavy. But the crab? It lived up to the name - super lump. Every single bite had real chunks of crab meat that you could actually taste. To go with it, I got their mint chocolate milkshake. First of all, shoutout to them for serving it diner-style. It was in tall glass and the metal mixing cup with the extra shake just like Five Guys does with their fries. Basically two drinks for the price of one. And it wasn't just quantity; the quality was solid. The mint was refreshing but not overpowering, and the chocolate was rich without being too sweet. It had that perfect old-school, creamy texture that makes you want to just sit back and savor it. All in all, I wasn't expecting Silver Diner to blow me away, but this meal absolutely hit the spot. Would definitely go back for that crab pasta. Honestly thinking about it already. The service was amazing too. Our server was really nice and refilled our waters. I had a wonderful experience at Silver Diner in Skyline. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, and the service was excellent from start to finish. As someone who loves to come to Silver Diner for meetings or small get together the service was amazing. The bartender was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout my visit. Manager Karen also checked in, and her professionalism and kindness truly stood out. You can tell she cares about the guests and the restaurant's overall atmosphere. The food was delicious and fresh, with great flavor and generous portions. This review was long overdue. We have been regulars at this new location since it opened, at first only willing to sit outside due to the pandemic. However, the management made us feel safe enough to dine inside when the weather got colder. The entire staff is friendly and professional, however we wanted to note the exceptional service in particular from our regular waiter on Tuesdays, Levi. In addition, the food we get on Tuesdays is perfectly presented as though ready to photograph for the new menu or a gourmet magazine. poor service from Tiffany. Extremely rude customer service at the end of the meal. when it came time to pay Tiffany attempted to make her tip $40 when we were paying cash and once we changed to card once we noticed inaccurate charges and an incorrect total. Added a rude comment saying if you don't tip don't eat here when she gave poor service the whole time. The most attention we received during the whole meal was when she kept peering over at the cards when we were paying. read more

It's brand new and has diner decor but, is definitely more luxurious than those throughout the Northeast. I went for brunch and ordered an omelette which was delicious! I got the wood grilled jumbo shrimp to go. I was really interested in the whipped goat cheese and it did not disappoint. Actually, the whole dish was quite tasty! The pic is of a "deconstructed" dish, but I ended up plating it after the first bite so I could dip the shrimp in the cheese, corn and pilaf. Everything was so good! And the shrimp had the perfect smoky flavor.I don't like spicy food, and this had some spice (think how your lips burn after eating) but it was still good. This restaurant comes across as a basic neighborhood spot but I think it has some yummy sounding items on the menu and I would definitely return.

The prices are outrageous, the food is terrible, the servers don't take orders correctly, and the ambiance is a that of a blank canvass. Don't eat here. I'm really not sure what peeved me more: $4 oysters, $23 burgers, or the $24 risotto that I ordered that the server left off the ticket. 5/6 people in our party were served their entrees. Then a manager randomly shows up and tells me my order of risotto was somehow left off the ticket. So I'm sitting there like a schmuck for 15 minutes waiting for my order while everyone else is eating. Risotto finally came and was undercooked and lukewarm. Then, the bill comes and the risotto wasn't even comped. Don't eat here. Plus, they have a tiny menu. Tiny menus are a godsend if a restaurant does these items well. But Kiln falls so far short on this notion that it's just sad. Lastly, don't eat here. You have a choice in restaurants in historic Old Town Alexandria and Kiln shouldn't be one.

Introduction:…read more Updating my 3-star review from 13 years ago. I'm pretty sure it's the longest gap for an updated review I've ever done. So, Ted's Montana started in Ohio. I already included Ohio established restaurant (my local Bob Evan's) for my America 250 series. But I'll include a 2nd Ohio-established restaurant, and since I didn't have a restaurant representing Montana, I can count it. Representing Montana, Ted's Montana Grill! After this, I'll have 4 more states: AZ, CA, OR, & WA left in my America 250 series, unless of course I come up with more before I end up writing the last one for Washington state. August 14, 2026 experience: I had visited Ted's Alexandria in 2012 & maybe another time not long after that. I had been to the Gaithersburg, MD a couple of times including as recently as Jan. 2024 for a friend's birthday. Sadly, the only MD location in Gaithersburg closed. But Gaithersburg isn't close to where I live in MD either; although closer than Alexandria (or Crystal City Arlington). I forgot what the Alexandria looked like inside. It's old style western decor featuring a Bison head above the entrance to the kitchen. Sign asked to use their revolving door, which I was happy to do as revolving doors are kind of fun. Bartender Cassi greeted me asking if I wanted to sit at the bar. I initially had said I preferred a booth or seat than the bar. The server said he'd come back, but after a minute, I decided to go with the bar as Cassi was very nice. I told her about my free dessert with purchase. She tried to upsell me on the bison burger. I was honest saying it's great but so is the regular burger and not worth $2 price differential for me even with a bit healthier. Since I was getting dessert, I figured I ought to go healthy with my side choice. I realized asparagus was an upcharge and wasn't worth it to me. I got the broccoli, but I modified to make healthier. It's not just simply broccoli. They normally add grated parmesan cheese on it as well as drenched in olive oil for cooking. I requested no cheese & light oil. It was still enjoyable the way it was made and quite a bit healthier. But admittedly, I would enjoyed with the cheese & drenched in oil even more, but I wanted to cut back somewhere. The burger was awesome! I think it's the single best burger I've had in 2026. It's 8 oz beef. I got the plain jane burger as I knew I was getting the free dessert too. I added mayo to my burger; never been a fan of ketchup or mustard. I asked Cassi her recommendations on the desserts. She mentioned the Kahlua brownie, which I asked if it was a la mode. She also mentioned the cheesecake with wildberry. I asked her what the seasonal dessert listed was, which she said was a strawberry shortcake, which I said was kind of boring, but probably would've been good too. I also asked about the milkshakes, since my free dessert was transferable to a milkshake, but she said vanilla, chocolate, & strawberry, which I said was boring. So, I opted for the Kahlua brownie. Wow, excellent brownie a la mode with caramel & chocolate drizzle. It was a nice presentation. But this thing was huge! I told Cassi I never eat this much dessert in one sitting. Normally, if I'm getting dessert somewhere, I'm splitting with my girlfriend. So, I wasn't accustomed to eating so much. The brownie a la mode was like its own meal of in its self. I was feeling a little nausea near the end and left 3 bites or so behind, but I had like 25 or whatever bites of these huge brownie/ice cream before that. Besides the great food, bartender Cassi was very personable. Granted most of the talk was about Ted's Montana Grill menu, etc., but also about my work, movie recommendations since I mentioned might end up back over here tonight at AMC Hoffman for a movie, etc. Overall, all the food & great service was a solid 5-stars!

~ ~ thursday group social event that turned luncheon ~ ~…read more service: five stars | JOHN, SATCH, CHRIS our event was meant to be more of a "refreshment, snacking, social setting" and less of a sit-down lunch. so when the group started ordering full meals, the staff did a great job switching gears getting our large group order and pushing food out of the kitchen. any concern with dishes and drinks were quickly addressed by the wonderful JOHN and SATCH. both JOHN and SATCH handled our group event very well. they were friendly, hardworking, and accommodating to all our groups wants. their ability to multitask while staying composed is noteworthy, especially because they were working the entire restaurant and our group showed up earlier than planned. thank you for making the event a success, JOHN and SATCH! thank you for tolerating all the times i asked for whatever i asked for and making it happen so quickly. both of you are rockstars! another thank you to CHRIS, the proprietor, who also went above and beyond for us. this isn't the first time i've seen CHRIS jump in without hesitation running food, bussing tables, and checking in with customers. They were OK. A little too sweet for me. I feel like I can add some ice/water when I get home and some mint and whalaaa! :) The gentleman working was welcoming and friendly. The store was clean.
