I visited this donut shop last weekend on a whim. I had planned to grab a coffee elsewhere, but since the shop was unexpectedly closed, I headed to Silverton Donut Shop instead. I walked in a little before 11am and noticed that a lot of donuts were already out of stock for the day. But, always take empty shelves as a good sign, it means loads of people are buying donuts! I chose the donut holes, and were pretty underwhelmed. They weren't hot, for starters. And the dough itself was just meh, a little chewy, a little dry. Not what I have in mind when I imagine perfect donut consistency. I tried a bit of a friend's apple fritter and it was pretty tasty. There is also not much seating here, so the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. I do appreciate the nice ladies behind the counter though. I ordered a coffee and she was very attentive when asking how much cream and sugar I preferred. They do carry high quality roasts, which is a plus. If I was passing through and had a craving, I would consider stopping in. But if I want a donut, I want it to be over the top indulgent, and these are just okay. read more

I'm just going to come out and say it. SIlverton Donut Shop's donuts are better than Holtman's. Holtman's donuts are fine and I know Cincinnati is currently swept up in a love fest for them, but Silverton's are tops in my book. I'm a cake donut girl through and through. Silverton's cake donuts are so light and fluffy, never greasy and not overly heavy. Tear open a plain, old-fashioned cake donut and the texture inside is downright pillowy. Their cake donuts are perfectly complimented by a cup of black coffee. When someone grabs a dozen or two to bring into work, I always have a hard time deciding between powdered sugar, plain cake with chocolate frosting or a plain old fashioned cake donut. I won't go anywhere else for an apple fritter. I want to try other items, but I love apple fritters and am routinely disappointed by what I get when I buy one. The quality and size of Silverton's are such that if I lived closer, my health would be in serious jeopardy. My first trip there, they were sold out of the apple fritters, so I tried the apple crunch donut as a test, since I usually find them to be disappointing as well. I was so impressed with that donut that I gave the shop another try. They have had apple fritters available every time I've gone since then, and as noted above, I'm a fan/ addict. I should note that I have tried the Klunker, and found it to be too dry for my tastes. No reflection on the quality of the bakery; it's just that the Klunker is not my thing. read more

Silverton Donut Shop has perhaps the best chocolate glazed cake donuts I've ever tried. Many folks in Cincinnati would say they prefer the more unique offerings from Holtman's, but Silverton does the simple things and does them REALLY well. I had tried to place an order over the phone with Silverton the day before the project, but was unable to get in touch with them. When I arrived at the shop first thing Saturday morning, I learned that they had been closed all week due to an unexpected death and funeral of one of the employee's family members. The staff had not been in the shop for 4 days and they were only planning to fill orders that were already in the system and allow folks to pick them up. I explained to the man at the counter than I had some friends coming over and despite everything that they were going through that week, he offered to see what he could do for me. Not only did they sell me a dozen of the aforementioned chocolate glazed cake donuts, but he also gave me the price as if I had ordered them ahead of time (only $9 for a dozen). Four times, I've driven to the Silverton Donut shop in the morning only to find it closed. The one time they were open, they charged my credit card three times and I had to have the charges reversed. The donuts were decent and I'd probably make it a regular stop but I can't justify driving there again after being disappointed so many times. Okay, everyone is right these donuts are absolutely wonderful. I got there at 9:15 am on this Saturday. There were pretty darn sold out for such a rainy chilly day. I got only one apple fritter and it was the last one. I also got a dozen of assorted donuts cake and yeadt varieties. Came home and made coffee to go with these just super fresh donuts. And fresh tasting they were. I am now hooked on Silverton Bakery products. read more

I end up telling all of my friends about it, but then I regret it because that means they'll sell out faster and there won't be any left for me! I finally get to review Silverton Donut Shop. I was there once before, but it was around noon, and all they had left were some glazed doughnut holes. He sold me a dozen (I think there were actually 15) for $1 and I was nicely impressed. I've read about their apple fritters, so I got there at 5:30 this morning to be sure to get one. If your only experience with apple fritters is those squishy sweet things you find in grocery story bakeries, get over to Silverton to get your taste buds educated. I'll admit that I couldn't taste or feel a lot of apple in mine, although I could definitely see a good amount of apple, but the dough is light and fluffy, with a crust that defies description. Just the right amount of glaze finished it off beautifully. I also had an iced cake doughnut, which I think is the test of a bakery, and it met my expectations. I bought a dozen of their donuts before to try. Definitely good donuts, not sure if they're the best. They have a good selection, just wish they had long johns. Their donuts have very creamy, soft texture and just down right good. I honestly think their prices are fair. The shop itself is a bit hard to find. Look for the healthy food pink house and it's right next to it. I would come back if I get another donut craving. Better than Dunkin's Donuts any day and quite frankly cheaper. read more

This is the only place I go for donuts. I also work really close by so that helps. The people working there are very nice and always happy to see customers come in. I have not had a bad donut there yet. They are not dry and the variety is good. Near the end of the day they sell out of a lot of stuff so it's good to go early in the day. I love Holtman's, but if I'm in the mood for a simple, delicious donut I always stop at Silverton Donut Shop. Their cake donuts are so light on the inside, crisp on the outside and melt in your mouth. The only downside is that their hours are pretty unpredictable. They are closed a couple days during the week, and when they are out of donuts they are closed for the day. If you're not driving by, just give them a call to make sure they are open before making the trip. You won't be disappointed! read more

Lived in PR for a minute and this became our "go to" place. I love a donut (as in I could marry one-if you ever get to Asheville, NC check out Hole). LOVE. And I know this is heresy but I don't like Holtman's. Silverton is the bomb. Fresh. My fav donut is a cruller. They are hit and miss. This is a local shop with fresh made doughnuts. They have the techniques down, but the quality of ingredients is only adequate. Comparable ingredient quality to the 24 hour Busken's in Hyde Park. However, this shop has their own specialty doughnuts, and a big fan base around them. You would not be disappointed to get these and take them in to work or a party, but you also would not be thinking that they were as good as Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland OR or Bouchon or Doughnut Plant in NYC...or even that insane Krispy Kreme shop in Louisville with a river of boiling fat and bobbing dunkers floating by. read more

So.... a few years ago I found this bakery and fell in love! The donuts were amazing, the one lady that worked there everyday was the sweetest and they were reliable. After moving away and moving back home about a month ago, I was SO excited to go back to this yummy local bakery! Little did I know how much things have changed! I can't tell you how many times I have gone by the store during their business hours to only see a handmade "Closed" or "Sold Out" sign. As you can imagine... that's freaking frustrating. So today, the open light was on and I was SO excited for a jelly donut and a cinnamon twist donut... and a chocolate milk, of course. Except........ they barely had ANYTHING left. Mind you, it was 8:30 in the morning. I finally, with disappointment, made a selection. When I asked for a chocolate milk she said "I'm out of milk".. All I can say is you have to give this donut shoppe a try . I showed up when the shop was closed and the owner was getting in his car. He saw me with my girls and opened the shop for me.
