Been clamoring to come to Simōn ever since I read about them in the L.A. Times. Finally got the opportunity to do so over the weekend. It did not disappoint! What really caught my eye was that Simōn is unlike any other taco truck, as it has very exotic seafood taco concoctions. Since it was my first time, had to get as much as possible. Got five tacos fish al pastor, Baja-style fish, soft shell crab, shrimp & pork, and enchilada suiza. Fish al pastor was the one that intrigued me the most as I had never seen that before. Had that nice sweet, pineapple marinade flavor that I would have expected from regular al pastor. Baja-style crab was a solid fried fish taco. Soft shell crab was a whole soft shell crab, which kinda surprised me. But it perfectly fried and worked well as a taco. Shrimp and pork was alright, but it still tasty. The one that really surprised me was the enchilada suiza, as it's effectively shrimp and avocado taco layered with melted cheese. That one was quite delicious! Staff here were really friendly, no complaints from me. Having come around 2:30 pm, there was no line to speak of. Probably got lucky on that front, as there were several people that ordered after we did. Since everything was being made fresh and there were a few people that had ordered before us, it took us 25 minutes to get our food. I don't mind waiting because it was fresh out of the kitchen and piping hot! Parking can be a bit of a challenge at it is in front of a market with a small parking lot. Ended up having to park on the nearby street. However, the market is helpful though as they have seats outside where you can sit to eat. Overall, I was expecting something exotic and creative from Simōn and was not disappointed! Worth the drive and would love to come back.

Awesome taco truck. Among the top tier fish tacos in LA. Ordered three tacos: pork (cochinita?), fried crab, and the white fish with avocado. Each were big, packed tremendous flavor, and were unique. Really liked this place. Would recommend and would come back. Thank you Simon LA

One of the best ceviches ive had with such fun, unique, and delicious salsa bar. There are some tables nearby (in front of yummy supermarket) but overall ambiance is food truck casual. Service is friendly but wait is typically at least 10 mins or more. Makes sense bc they make/fry their food right when you order. Highly recommend their ceviche, soft shell tacos and alpastor fish

The al pastor fish taco really is delicious. Filled with the depth of flavor from Al pastor but lightened as it is made with fish. The sweetness of pineapple pushes the flavor up even more. Freshly made means a little wait as it is prepared and it is worth it. Also, service was very kind and helpful.

Some of the best fish tacos I've had in LA. Lovely staff, unique menu options. There is serve-yourself salsa station with an impressive array of house made choices. Do yourself a favor and get a crunchy fried fish taco and eat it right when it comes out!! There is limited seating out front, but you can usually snag a table in the shared space between the truck and Pine+Crane.

Pro: spicy salsas, creative seafood tacos. Grow: wait times, a bit pricy but worth it. I was taking a walk around the neighborhood and came across Simón. Luckily I was hungry and craving seafood which is their specialty. They serve creative tacos such as pescado Al pastor. The quality of the hand made tortilla and homemade salsas easily earned them my top rating. They do not have seating available, however, there is some green space with benches where you can enjoy the tacos. Food: I tried the pescado Al pastor which is a spin on pork tacos Al pastor. The portion size was great and it came with a slice of roasted pineapple which complimented the taco nicely. This was my favorite taco and I would easily come back to order more. Secondly, I ordered the shrimp and pork taco which is a spin on a deconstructed camarrones a La momia. The taco was also very well balanced and had a nice texture. The salsa bar had unique flavors I had not tried such as carrot habanero. I loved that they don't hold back on spice. Overall, this is a high quality and flavorful taco truck. I will definitely be back to try more of the Mariscos.

Got to try this truck for the first time this past weekend at Eeeeatscon! The soft shell crab is fantastic and worth the hype. Wait time a little long, but worth it.

Food was good. I think they may be short staffed the same person taking the orders is the same person called out the orders. Her voice was very soft. People kept coming up to the window to ask if their number was called. They may need to invest in a microphone. Will be back again.

One of the best fish tacos I have ever had! This is a food truck, and we were lucky enough to be at Eagle rock brewery and they were there on a Sunday. The food can be a little pricey but it has to do with quality. The ceviche was so amazing that I ended up ordering a second ceviche because I didn't want to share! I really wanted a fish and shrimp mix but the mixed ceviche had octopus but they were kind enough to create one for me without it and it was amazing! My husband and weren't a huge fan of the "el pastor" style fish taco but I think to is one of the more popular tacos. The gentleman working there was also very kind and helpful. Highly recommend coming trying this place out.

91°F in Silver Lake in October. Let's head to Simón and grab some tacos, and actually remember to take some photos this time. 6 months ago, we stumbled on Simón after doing some shopping at the adjacent Farmer's Market, and have been meaning to return. We walked right up to the window at 2pm and ordered the Fish Al Pastor Taco, the Soft Shell Crab Taco, and the Octopus Taco. I opted for the Steak Quesadilla this time around as well, both because I was in the mood and because I couldn't find a picture of it on Yelp. The cousins who run the truck are as jovial as they are efficient, as hospitable as they are talented. All that's missing is a place to sit while you eat (and Topo Chico to drink - but you can grab a bottle at Yummy.com while your food is being made) They are doing something special here, and if they launch a Brick & Mortar space within 50 miles, I'll make it a point to visit, so I can bring friends to sit and share this beautiful food with. Prices have increased since our last visit (not complaining - everything else has gone up too), but the $4 tacos we had in April are now $5.25 Still absolutely worth the price, especially considering you get access to their fantastic, ever-evolving shelf of refrigerated salsas with taco pairing suggestions written right on the jar if you need some guidance. TIP: on your first visit, make use of the 1oz containers and grab a bit of each salsa, so you can mix and match different bites, and pare down your list of favorite salsas for your next visit. The Carrot Habañero is still the winner for me - I'd put it on anything and everything. I'd clear out space in my fridge if they'd allow me to purchase some to take home. I'd swim in it. I'd add it to my nighttime skincare routine. I've added some photos below, but y'all already know the food is beautiful. Thankfully it's just as delicious as it looks. Bring your own pack of Water Wipes for your fingers, as this is a Grab & Go, or "Grab & Stand Next To a Planter To Use As A Table" situation (which is what we did.) The Quesadilla is decadent and greasy in the best way, with a layer of cheese coating the outside, as well as the inside. Unless you're careful, *your* outside layer will be also covered in cheese by the time you're finished. But that's ok, because you have the Carrot Habañero Salsa to wash your face with.

Just for us to order, a bit disappointed honestly. The food arrives decently fast. I dig in, Mama B is hungry y'all! The shrimp is cheap, okay. Small, fishy, rubbery Walmart type of shrimps. The corn plasticy, cheap and just disgusting. The potatoes, poorly cooked and under seasoned. The clams... no notes. Now at this point Mama B is scared y'all...I wasn't trying to get food poisoning. I'm disappointed, honestly the most flavourless seafood boil I have ever had the displeasure of eating. What's horrifying is the bill was $91...$91!!!! I feel like this math is just not mathing. I believe the tax is ridiculously high and possible charged for water cups? I really truly could've made a mean Walmart seafood boil for a cheaper price, that'd actually be seasoned... Not Mama B approved, go elsewhere.

We forgot how difficult it can be to find parking in LA, but we managed to find one on the side of the road, just to find out... this restaurant has their own parking lot. Hehe. Went around 5pm and saw we were the first ones seated while a handful of people came and gone for to go orders. I immediately ordered the soy marinated crab and live uni. There is a combo order of both, but it includes the American marinated crab and an extra small live uni. With their recommendation, we opted for the Korean marinated crab and small uni to share with 2 adults and one kid. When the food came out, they gave us another live uni on the house and I was so happy because I didn't want to share mine! The food was so homey and delicious. The seafood pajeon was so loaded with all the seafood bits and the soy bean soup was the perfect palette cleanser. Service was great and they were so helpful to answer any questions we had. They gave us extra water for our little one and refilled our tea when it was a fourth full. They were so tentative and asked how we liked the food. We loved it. We also enjoyed the banchan!

The marinated crab was very delicious, and spicy crab was even better, but the marinated crab is definitely higher quality, so if you want to get the best of both worlds order both or get the combo. When we finished ordering, appetizers came immediately and basically covered the whole table, and as a Korean restaurant with such warm hospitality I assume you can get more side dishes if you want, but we didn't want to waste any food. All dishes tasted great. The uni wasn't very surprising but it's still good, so if you are doing à la carte you can skip it. All in all a 5+ for the restaurant, also the restroom seems pretty clean so it's another plus for this smallish restaurant.

Saw them seasoning it with fish sauce. I wouldn't have guess to do that but it works very well. - Silican Crudo - I always love a crudo. Very Yummy - Scallop Tostada - The apple, yuzu, and scallop are paired so well with each other. - Hot Shoft Shell Crab Sando - Lobster Bisque Roll My favorite dishes we got were the chowdaaa, silican crudo, and scallop tostada. The restaurant is small, would recommend getting a reservation. The inside is basically one long bar with a few 2 seats tables along the long hallway/bar. They had a couple tables outside that could sit 4 people. We didn't have a reservation but got there about 20 minutes before opening on a Sunday on lunch. They ended up having probably 20 ish people in line by the time they opened. They had Cape Cod and Maine oysters the day we went. The biggest…read moreissue was that the kitchen was clearly in the weeds, and our outdoor table took the brunt of that. People indoors seemed to be receiving their food just fine, but the larger tables outside suffered. For hours. We got pretty much zero communication on what was happening; it took almost 2+ hours to receive any cooked food whatsoever. The raw items came out 15-20 minutes into the meal, which meant that we sat for the majority of the time with no entrees and no updates. Keep in mind that one of the hot items we ordered was the clams and mussels - a steamed dish that was literally dumped into a bowl with a pile of raw garlic and fries on top. The broth had a strong alcohol taste that did not cook off. Super underwhelming and disappointing after the 2 hour wait. Moreover, dishes came out seemingly at random, so our table of 4 people ate at different times, with no coordination (I realize some items are family style here, but sandwiches are clearly not). It's not fun/convivial for everyone when some have already completed their meal, and others have not even taken a first bite of their entrees. Ultimately they did offer to take the bread and one tostada off or our bill. A concession, but by no means an acknowledgment of the unpleasant overall experience. I think we're going to give this place a long break. And maybe only come back on a weekday when they're hopefully less busy.

We started with the oyster sampler featuring selections from Hollywood, MD; Pope's Bay, VA; Buzzards Bay, MA; Chesapeake Bay, VA; and Wellfleet, MA. The oysters were exceptionally fresh and served with great accompaniments. We always order oysters when visiting seafood restaurants because freshness is so important to us, and Water Grill absolutely delivered. A must-order. The grilled Spanish octopus, served with fingerling potatoes, Niçoise olives, roasted tomato, pine nuts, and olive oil, was very good (3.5/5). We're fairly picky when it comes to octopus, and while we would have liked a bit more char, it was still among the better versions we've had. The New Zealand king salmon sushi with avocado, hazelnuts, papaya, and white soy-lime vinaigrette was fresh, clean, and delicious (5/5). While not particularly unique, it was executed perfectly. The crispy calamari with harissa aioli and cilantro-mint sweet chili sauce was also well done (4/5)--crispy, not oily, and very enjoyable. Calamari is another dish we frequently order, and this version met our standards, even if it wasn't especially memorable. The standout among the appetizers was the New Zealand pink bream ceviche with cilantro, red peppers, onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors were incredibly fresh (5/5). We only added a touch of salt. This is another must-order dish. The Peruvian bay scallops with pistachio citrus pesto were somewhat underwhelming (3/5), and the Brussels sprouts with bacon and chestnuts (3/5) didn't leave much of an impression either. The lobster itself was excellent (5/5)--sweet, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The accompanying coleslaw wasn't our favorite, but we'd happily order the lobster again and probably go for a larger portion next time. The absolute star of the evening was the Massachusetts black sea bass. It was easily one of the best dishes of the night and possibly one of the best fish dishes we've ever had at a restaurant (5/5). Tender, juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. To top it all off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert featuring chocolate cake, vanilla cake, oatmeal cake, and ice cream. It was thoughtful, delicious, and a wonderful ending to the meal (5/5). Overall, Water Grill earns a well-deserved 5/5. The quality and freshness of the seafood were outstanding, the beachfront ambiance was beautiful, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Definitely a must-try seafood destination in Los Angeles. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable experience--we truly appreciated it.
