The reason I gave 3 stars is the place was not very clean, the tables were dirty and the cushions were sat on wear dirty and at the edge of the long cushion I was sitting on had food on it. The floor could have been swept since we saw remnants of food and dirt. Maybe if they updated their restaurant with a cleaner vibe I would go back? Did a lunch pick up. When the order was placed, they asked if I wanted eggs or bacon. I didn't see on the menu that either option would be included, however it stated bacon is an extra $4. I assumed incorrectly that it would be included, so I paid $4 extra for something I wouldn't have ordered in the first place. They also charge extra for to-go orders. I didn't know that, so keep that in mind. Their socials to update the menus because my French toast cost $2 more than expected on top of the other fees and add ons. I also wouldn't call this French toast. It was just bread with sauce on top. There was no custard texture. It looked like the bread was barely dipped in egg. I couldn't even finish it. Who wants to eat dry bread? There was a weird onion aftertaste so maybe the fruit or something was next to the onions. My friend couldn't stop raving about this tropical fusion spot, so I finally gave in--and I'm glad I did! The moment you walk in, it feels like you've stepped into a mini island getaway. I had the virgin margarita, clam chowder w/bread bowl, and that OMG bread pudding. Everything was unique, taste and look. The bread pudding served on a cutting board with several sauces and pretty sure that was crème fresh as well and then a small scoop of ice cream. I, at first, thought it was over kill, but the ice cream and every other component to include the fresh fruit were vital to this desert. I eat and have eaten a lot of clam chowder, never have I had clam chowder like that and I want more. The drink was just yummy, be sure to take a little taste of the salted rim, before you sip, that again is a unique and perfect blend of heat and tropics. Oh my. We arrived in the last hour before closing. Could not have had a better experience. It is a very fun look with flowers, plants and rattan. I had the tortilla chicken soup and dare I say OMG. Best one I can recall. The flavor and the fire was a great balance along with the creamy sliced avocado on top. I then had the wonderful seafood tostado while my daughter had the chicken chilaquiles with an egg on top. So much flavor. On top of all this their cocktails are wonderful. Such a fun tropical ambience! Wouldn't have known it was -15 out with fresh snow! We were greeted warmly as soon as we walked in the door. Our server was friendly and attentive. The only thing that could be improved would be having our water refilled during the meal itself. The crunchy chicken wrap was so yummy and so filling. Winter got you down? Come here! I got the Monte Crisco special! So freaking good. Wow I mean how do you do it. This was magical, so savory and sweet. I was blown away with this dish. So good. When we left there were several homeless men that appeared to be intoxicated blocking the path to her car. I ended up driving her to her car. The area is covered with unscrupulous characters. The menu features Mexican comforts like chilaquiles done in an artsy, cleaned flavored and hip sort of way. Think -- tons of colors, avocado, chiles guajillos, pickled red onions and esquites. The restaurant itself is new and hipster-esque meets boho and cool. It's cute, it's well designed and has a lively atmosphere and warm upbeat Latin music. The not so good: the service. Service is not good. There were more staff than customers and it was pretty slow getting food. Refills? Not once. They seem to be having a good time in the back and reluctant for front of house. I ordered the Tuna Ceviche, and the tuna was fresh, tender, and slightly firm. It was marinated in fresh citrus juice, which gave it a zesty flavor. As from the pictures already posted, this is a cute, heavily decorated tropical lunch spot downtown on 4th and barrow. It was even humid like you were on a tropical island. Nicely cooked, real bacon, aoli sauce, and tomatoe. Came with chips, salad, soup I chose chips but I would try their soup ir even salad next time. The spousal unit ordered the Asian salad - it came with two different dressings; one sesame on the soba noodles and the other a peanut-based dressing at the bottom of the bowl for the remaining salad. Delish, but unexpected. Also ordered the chicken pesto sandwich which I think would be better served as an appetizer as it was rather small, but still very tasty. Bottomline - will return. First off, what a very satisfying experience with the cute and tropical decor inside (look up) and outside, friendly service, and tasty food! Ambiance was very reminiscent of an all-inclusive lunch with desserts in Mexico! What's missing is-- the beach. Location wise- it's not an ideal area downtown but the food truly makes up for it. Hoping they'd stay open a little longer than 4pm too. I'd like to go after work hours (430). Service- The owner Diego was very welcoming and friendly as well as all the staff. Accommodating and attentive. Food! They NOW have their beer and wine license folks! Sampled 2 refreshing cocktails that are not on the menu yet. Both sweet and delicious! The dishes consist of MANY fresh ingredients-- all of which were very flavorful and did I mention all fresh!! You'll have to try for yourself. My favorites were the salad.. literally eating the rainbow! As well as the ceviches (halibut, shrimp, and tuna) in citrus juices mixed with veggies and mango bits. Delightful eating with crunchy tostados. Gotta get that creme brûlée again, not too sweet! This place makes for a charming brunch with the ladies or a lunch date with the hubs! Wow what a fun addition to the Anchorage restaurant scene! This is the only restaurant of its kind, and the food is so creative as well as delicious. The decor is tropical & chic. It honestly feels like you're being transported to some beach side restaurant in Mexico for a short while. Definitely a little oasis for us especially once the weather turns colder. Do be aware that it is an extremely small space with limited seating. When we dined there was a bit of a wait for a table about 15-20 minutes; I'm not sure if they take reservations. When we went it was when the restaurant was newer though so not sure if wait times have evened out a bit. We went on a weekday in the late afternoon so I imagine weekends are a pretty lengthy wait for a table. If you have a small group there is a bar area you can sit at. This is a brunch/lunch spot with Latin fusion dishes. We got the Palmeira & Pina Negra smoothie both are super fresh, and they do not add an additional sugar or other additives. The Palmeira was more flavorful than the Pina Negra. We shared the tomatillo chicken chilaquiles, halibut tropical ceviche & BLT sandwich with a side salad. The ceviche was so flavorful. I was honestly super impressed that a brunch spot had such tasty ceviche. The chilaquiles were beautifully presented, and very flavorful. I would've liked them to be spicier, but my mom can't handle spice so it worked out ok! The Blt was for my toddler, and not something I'd normally order, but I was impressed by how much flavor it had. They use a chipotle mayo to give it a little kick. For dessert we ordered the passion fruit roll. The presentation was phenomenal, and the flavors were 10/10. They came to the table, and poured the passion fruit sauce over the roll & you could add as much as you wanted. The staff were all friendly and so much fun. The kitchen staff were dancing around and it just seemed like everyone was having a good time, which we love to see. We received a sample of the cafe de la ola since it was the end of the day and staff didn't want to throw it out. They told us they get the coffee beans from someone locally, but I believe they're roasted in Central America. Then they add in a house made cinnamon sugar syrup & it was delightful. I typically never take coffee without some type of dairy substitution, but this coffee did not need any creamer. Palmeira is a vibe! Found my new favorite local restaurant for lunch! I have been wanting to come in here since it opened this fall and today was my day! I ordered their take of the crunch wrap with shrimp and it was so good. It was covered in a fresh chipotle sauce and full of juicy shrimp chunks, whopping full of flavor. My friend ordered the special rancheros dish that looked amazing as well. It's small and colorful. A total bright spot to have lunch during the cold winter months. I will be back! read more
