Hubby, my parents and I visited Homestead last night for a quick getaway and visit to the crater. Simons was our dinner spot, and it was amazing! We started with the cheese curds, which were so good! Crispy and yummy - and the tomato basil dipping sauce was so rich and tasty my dad wanted to eat it with a spoon. We ordered the dinner for 4 to share among us, and we all loved it. Started with bread baked in small terra-cotta pots, it was soft and hot and delish covered in butter. The salad was next, and was equally good. Crisp lettuce with mixed veggies and walnuts, tossed in just enough of the yummy ranch dressing to keep you happy. The main courses were so tasty. Juicy fried chicken, fork tender pot roast (I loved it... And I don't even like pot roast!), mashed potatoes, and roasted beets. There was plenty to go around, our tummies were full and happy... But Apple doughnuts finished the dinner off! They were sweet, spongy and so tasty. They came with a sweet sauce you could drizzle on, and it tastes like thick melted vanilla bean ice cream! My husband and I read the reviews and weren't hopeful but we just wanted to stay at the hotel and relax so we chanced it. We are sure glad we did. The food was excellent! We were served coattails by different perole-- just whoever was on the room at the time. The meals started with yummy bread baked in a flower pot. Very cute. The bread was light and yummy. I ordered the chicken marsala. It came with al dente veggies. The chicken was ok. I liked the marsala flavor. Another in my party had a sandwich with steak bits and gravy. Our family had a filling and tasty meal at Simon's. We started with the deep fried curds and chipotle artichoke dip and gobbled that right up. My husband had the coffee-crusted short rib special. It was fall off the bone tender and very delicious. I had the fried chicken and it was the perfect balance between moist and crunchy and perfectly seasoned. The kids meals were very generous; our two kids could have easily shared. Oh and let's not forget the homemade rolls. Yum! Our server was very attentive and efficient. Very good restaurant. Friendly staff and the dining area had tables by windows with great views of the resort grounds and Heber Valley. My wife had the filet mignon, I had the ribeye steak. We decided to try out Simons at the homestead resort after we went on a sleigh ride to santa (super cute by the way!). We thought it would be the quickest option, and the menu looked okay. Man, were we wrong! We sat down and it took 15 minutes for a server to even come to our table. Finally, when they came we ordered drinks and food. An hour and a half later (not even kidding!) our food came. We rarely got drink refills, and the food was just okay. For four adults, and 2 kids, our meal was $110 dollars. This would have been a 1 star, but there were a few things that made it a 2. We got the family dinner for 4 and split it between me and 3 friends of mine. It came with fried chicken, pot roast, beets and green beans as well as salad and mashed potatoes... it all had the potential to be good, but most of it wasn't. The dinner rolls were really good, the salad was mediocre. As we were waiting for the fried chicken we all joked that it was going to be KFC, in retrospect we wish it had been KFC it would have tasted much better, it was overcooked and bone dry. The vegetables were OK, and the pot roast was actually quite tender and flavorful (reason for the 2 stars). The service was mediocre, 1 of our servers was quite friendly and helpful but the 2 younger servers were not friendly or helpful at all. And as we were leaving we all noticed the wonderful smell of raw sewage that had apparently soaked into the carpets, in the entryway. This place was probably awesome 30/40 years ago before I was born, but now it just seemed like low quality food at high prices. read more

Heard how nice Simon's was so went with friends to enjoy the family dinner which was advertised on the internet as $50. The very uppity waitress told us the price had increased to $59.99 and that the price on the internet was "not legally binding". We ordered but asked to speak with the manager but got no response. She did say that the price had increased because they had upgraded the desert (cubed watermelon, 2 slices of apple, 2 strawberries and 2 raspberries). We gave her two credit cards at the end of the meal and she charged us 20% for splitting the check. Of course , she didn't tell us about the split check charge when we paid and the charge slip still had the tip section to be filled out. Bad experience but decent food. read more

Well let's just say I agree with the gentleman before about the negative star option... this place needs a HUGE negative star!!!! Where do I begin???!!!! Let's start with the blackberry sparkling drink I ordered when we first sat down... it was basically water, it did not have a drop of flavor and looked even worse with something floating on the side of the glass that wasn't supposed to be there! When I informed our waitress she said "Really? Well there is lime soda in it so maybe that's why?!" Why it tates like water? I didnt know what she ment by that but.... I then invited her to taste it and she objected... Since we went on a Saturday we decided to order the prime rib (they only serve it on Friday and Saturday)... it comes with bread (which they did have good bread), salad, a baked potatoe and broccoli. I'll start with the salad... some might say this might be a twist a on the traditional side salad but it was way too adventurous for me!!! Just like majority of places it was bagged iceberg lettuce with sliced purple cabbage... then this is where it gets too creative for me... a pickled salsa of some sort that consisted of carrots onions and tomatoes, which of course they piled on top!!! That along with the worst dressing selection ever made this side salad to gross to even choke down, oh and my friends salad was swimming in so much water it looked like soup! If that didnt set the mood for what was to come... Let's move on to the prime rib... now granted i have family in the restaurant industry and prime rib, in my family, has been served every Christmas since i can remember... but this prime rib was seriously confused for bologna! !! No joke! You could see the grains in it like it wasn't even real meat! And the smell!!! I took a bite and spit it straight into the napkin!! Now to give Simons the benefit of the doubt the prime rib of the person I went with looked a billion times better than mine (at least like real meat) but it still got sent back as well, unfortunately even though it looked better it didn't taste better. The potatoe was undercooked and cold and to be honest I didn't even get to the broccoli.... we sent everything back and raced out of there so fast to avoid the disgusting lingering smell of that meat! For about 30 dollars a plate I guess my expectations were too high but I will add an observation, the couple sitting at the table in front of us didnt eat anything they ordered either!!! I guess it's a 50/50 shot. We had a group of15 people and the place was empty,there was only 2 other people there. It took them over 30 minutes to even get seated. Then after out order it took 45 min to get or food. Most of the group ordered the family dinner, the pot roast and sides were good but the chicken was almost dangerous. Almost burnt on the outside and pink at the bone. I ordered Shepherds Pie and it was basically ground beef and mashed potatoes in a bowl of grease with a slice of cheese on top. It was inedible. My wife ordered the filet mignon and it was very good the mushroom gravy that came with it was very good as well. I guess it is a crap shoot but for over 25.00 a person the food and service should be much better. read more

I was staying at the Zermatt and saw that Simon's was serving a turkey pot pie. Turkey pot pie is one of my favorites, but I saw that the restaurant had a rating of 2.5 stars and was concerned. Then I saw the five star review and saw that there was a new chef and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did as it was a great experience. The service was great from being seated to the end of the meal. The turkey pot pie was great: turkey was moist and the puff pastry browned perfectly. My fiance had the fried chicken and gives is a 6 on a scale of 1-10. Fun conversation with Cass throughout the meal made us feel very at home. read more

I honestly do not understand any of the negative reviews on Yelp. As a heavy domestic and international traveler, I find Simons as one of the better places I've been for being served a good, high quality meal. We often stay in Midway because of its beauty, good hiking opportunities and fun things to do. We also come for the great food options in and around the Heber Valley area. We have dined at Simons the past few years for dinner and consider the food to be high quality, creative and very delicious. We enjoy the outdoor seating by the small lake next to the gold course. On this occasion I ordered the chicken fried chicken and my wife had the fried shrimp platter. She thought the shrimp was pretty good and I enjoyed the chicken very much. I noticed one reviewer basing a one star rating by criticizing the bread baked in a flower pot calling it "Weird." I do not agree with or understand her comment at all and question the motive for such a poor review based on a delicious and creative and complimentary appetizer (BTW, it's very good with the balled butter). I do agree prices are higher than MacDonald's but the quality is well worth the price. The help is friendly and fairly relaxed but attentive. I look forward to dining with my better half at Simons for years to come. Don't let the lower rated reviews dissuade you from enjoying Simons. read more

This is one of our most memorable vacations at the Homestead Inn and our excellent dinner at Simons put the icing on the cake. The wait staff were friendly and very accommodating, visiting our table often to make sure we had everything we needed. The hard lemonade with sweet tea vodka and the peach sangria were the perfect start to accompany the cheese curds as our starter. home made bread was served in a terra-cotta flour pot with butter and strawberry jam. It was like homemade bread I remember my grandmother making. Then we shared the Prime rib which was grilled to perfection. We had no room left for dessert. We sat on the deck and it was absolutely delightful. We highly recommend Simons. read more

Simons restaurant came highly recommended BUT was a dismal disappointment. The hostess was very pleasant but our waitress had the personality of a wet moldy dish towel. If you enjoy paying Ruth's Chris prices for sizzler quality food then Simons is the place for you. Everything about this restaurant caters to the Utard mentality. If you are not a UTARD, save your time and money. I ordered the special which was steak and shrimp, the waitress did not even ask me how I would like my steak cooked, they just brought it out well done, which was comparable to shoe leather. The shrimp which were not good quality shrimp but flash frozen shrimp from Vietnam or somewhere in Asia were drowning in what I can only assume was cheap prepackaged minced garlic, total overkill. Everyone else in my party ordered the fried chicken which came highly recommended by our waitress, we have three orders of fried chicken that would've lost to KFC, and KFC is absolutely horrible. My daughter ordered a bowl of soup that is supposedly made in house, it was inedible. None of us could finish our meals due to the poor quality and poor preparation of the food. It's really surprising that such a top-rated and otherwise upscale resort has such a mediocre dinner restaurant. And equally surprising that the breakfast/lunch restaurant on the same property seems to get far better reviews. We ate dinner there last night, and had mixed results: My wife's salmon was very good, but her salad was not up to par. The house made salad dressing lacked flavor. I had braised sirloin tips and ordered medium rare, and they came well done and very tough. The replacement make-good sirloin steak was cooked very rare and had a tough gristle thread throughout. Then again, the entrees were $17-$18 with two sides, so perhaps I should have not expected much in the steak arena. Our waitress, a tall, slender brunette with long braided hair, was very accommodating and had a very cheerful personality. She was the bright spot in the meal. I think they should keep the waitress and overhaul their menu and cook staff. read more

We had not eaten on the deck before, and the wonderful weather was very inviting. My wife enjoyed the Greek salad, and I enjoyed the brisket over polenta with green salsa. The service was terrific. Truly a disappointing experience. The food was actually alright but the attitude of the staff spoiled the experience. We ordered wings and were given no napkins. When we asked for napkins, we were handed two small cocktail size napkins. I asked for a dinner napkin and the waiter was clearly annoyed at my request. He did bring us dinner napkins but when our next order arrived, the same waiter carried his attitude forward and literally dropped the dinner plate onto the table. This place was highly disappointing. First they put three of us at a very small table of two (even though the reservation was for three). Granted one of us was a small child this still was not enough room - anyone who's dined with a child knows that more room is preferable as small hands will grab everything. Second the service was less then stellar. Our server didn't really seem interested in being there and was aloof. We had to ask for a children's menu which seemed like a missed opportunity for an up sell on the restaurants part. Third the food was blah. Not bad but definitely not worth the price (eve with a coupon). The steaks were ok but the baked potato had minimal toppings and was slightly undercooked. Fourth when the plates were placed on the table not one but both had the steak knife handle facing my child. Additionally almost everything brought to the table was placed right in front of my child - a mess waiting to happen. Lastly the car park is not well lit and if I didn't k ow where the restaurant was I would have definitely got lost. Needless to say I would not go back anytime soon.
