Disappointed with the Service I used to love coming to Simply Salads in Cerritos. The staff used to be friendly, courteous, and welcoming it's what kept me coming back. Unfortunately, today will be my last visit. When I walked in, I went straight to the pick-up counter. The two employees were in the middle of a personal conversation, which I don't mind but there was no greeting, no acknowledgment, just a cold, "Are you here for pick-up?" In my head I was like that's why I'm standing at the pick-up counter. I just replied yes. The employee who helped me had an obvious attitude, like she didn't want to be there. She asked for my name, grabbed my salad, and just set it down. No offer of a bag. I had to ask for one, and when I did, she handed it to me without a word no smile, no "here you go," nothing. I ended up bagging it myself while she went right back to her conversation. It wasn't just the lack of help it was the clear message that their conversation was more important than their customer. A colleague told me about this gem a week ago and we went to their location in Long Beach and I absolutely loved the convenience of ordering online and picking it up. I love salads but I'm usually hungry a few hours later. However, this is the second time trying their steak salad for lunch and it is very fulfilling. Wraps are made to order, I have walked in behind a mini line, so there can be a wait sometimes. I recommend placing your order ahead of time. That being said, other tip, check your order when you pick up (a couple times had a mishap). I really like the wraps here, they are tasty, fresh, filling. When I arrived, there was only 1 spot left with a bunch of cars waiting. Ordered the Thai It Up with light dressing mixed in. The wait can take a while since they take time to put everything together. I feel like the process might be better if they lined it up like chipotle? Pretty much you tell someone what you want and they mark it on a piece of paper and pass it down. Some folks take a long time when customizing their own salad. Came here for Saturday lunch and boy the line was long! But definitely thought it was worth it based on the amount you get. I got a make your own salad bowl, while my boyfriend got one of their specialty pre-made bowls. It's basically like cava and chipotle, where you order your main bases, then add protein followed by add ons. There is such an extensive list of toppings that it was hard to make a decision right off the bat. Not to mention they take your order in the front and check off items before they start making it - which I thought was highly inefficient. I had a hard time of seeing which items were available and what I wanted. Though ordering system could be optimized better so that wait times are less, I'd still come back because this is one of the only places that really serve healthy options! I should've known something was up as the cucumbers specifically tasted "different". I thought it was just the type of salad I got and finished the whole thing. Well, I was wrong. In the middle of the night I started to feel sick and had diarrhea the whole night. We had a flight in the morning and I barely survived it. From that night till 4/23/24, when we returned from Hawaii I was EXTREMELY sick! Diarrhea, vomiting, headache, clammy, chills, body aches and nausea. I was MISERABLE! Even got to the point of going to ER twice cause I thought I was dying. What a HORRIBLE experience and such horrible timing as this was our WEDDING! We spent TONS of money on what I feel was a wasted trip. Not a great experience and definitely NOT what we had planned for our wedding. This new location is super spacious and clean. You order similarly to as you would at blaze or pieology - choose one of the premade salads or opt for a custom. The base salad is $8.95 and the base wrap is $8.45) Any salad can also be made into a wrap. There are charges for extra toppings and premium additions. I got the Chinatown Salad $11.95. Along with what comes in the salad, it also came with pita chips and more crispy wontons on the side. You have the option of getting your dressing light, medium, heavy, or on the side which is great if you want to take the salad Togo for later. Staff was extremely attentive and seemed organized for it being the very first day open. I downloaded the app to join rewards program. You get $10 back for every $100 you spend. Man I do not know why I keep coming back here. The first time I tried this place, I ordered a salad in person and it was actually delicious. I got the Cobb salad and the worker recommended adding croutons and chipotle ranch dressing. It was awesome!! I was excited to make myself a regular at this place. Since then I've ordered from them maybe about 4 or so more times and each time something has been wrong. When I order for pick up I order about 5 salads total. The second time I ordered from them they forgot to add dressing to one of the salads. I messaged them and they said they would give me a credit for a future purchase--they did not. The third time I ordered, I wanted to try the Steak Out salad. When I got home and opened it up, it had literally everything on the description except the steak. I went back on the website to make sure I didn't read it wrong. Maybe I ordered wrong or didn't add the steak or the steak was literally "out" of the salad. I called the restaurant to clarify and gave them my receipt/order number. They said they would issue me a refund and never did. Finally, I wanted a salad and was still riding the high from my first time there so I ordered the Cobb Salad again. Not only did they not dress the salad, they mixed in brown avocado. Like someone just thought "it's all mixed in--no one will notice this absolutely browned avocado that I throw in." I normally don't mind a little discoloration but this looked unhealthy to eat. My partner also mentioned the portion sizes are getting smaller and smaller. I really enjoyed my first time here. But the slow and steady decline of my enjoyment and experience makes me really disappointed in a place I was previously very excited about. On top of it all, the need to order ONLY via their app and pay ahead of time (as opposed to being able to call an order in and/or pay at pick up) just makes it overall not the best for me. Really tasty wraps and salads and a great option for something healthy. What I like are all the different choices. With all the different proteins, add ins, and dressings there is a great variety. My advice is to order from the app and pick up your order. This avoids waiting for them to make it, and indecisiveness of having to choose from all the options while people are in line behind you. My other recommendation is to get the dressing on the side. The wraps were so packed with flavor that we used a lot less dressing this way, and also you are able to control how much you want to add. Everyone really liked what they got. My complaint is that I can't find descriptions about their dressings. I ordered two different asian style dressings (far east and asian soy) and I still don't know which one is which. They were both good, one was more of a vinaigrette and one was more creamy. Dear [Store Manager / Customer Service Team], I wanted to share a disappointing experience I had during a recent visit to your location. Before ordering, I asked an employee for the bathroom code so I could wash my hands. I had just thrown up and was with my 4-year-old child, so I needed to clean up before placing an order. The employee responded that the restroom was for customers only, which I understand may be store policy. However, what bothered me was the judgmental attitude I received -- when I turned around with my child, I caught her giving me a dirty look. It was uncomfortable enough that I considered leaving without ordering. No customer should be made to feel judged or unwelcome, especially when taking basic hygiene precautions. I did speak to another employee at the counter who was understanding and professional, and I appreciated his considerate attitude. It's perfectly normal -- and in many cases expected -- for people to wash their hands before eating. A smile or even a neutral tone would've gone a long way, especially when dealing with someone visibly unwell and with a child. I hope this feedback can be used as a learning opportunity.
