My partner has enjoyed the lunch thali and convinced us to give this place a shot. The menu's selection impressed my parents. The bhature veg kheema masala's presentation was nice, with the large bulbous bhatura. This vegetarian kheema uses soy granules. It was nice to try but it was quite salty, even for my mom who will consume an ocean worth on a normal day, so I wouldn't try it here again. But I'd get the bhatura with something else. The benne masala dosa was interesting to try. I had it at Bharat Bhavan and its two smaller, well fermented dosas. Comparatively this one is bigger, softer, thicker, less fermented flavor. I prefer the one from Bharat Bhavan but I don't regret trying it. The potato masala was super fluffy and well seasoned without being too salty - if I were to go back I'd get something else with the potato masala. The chai was warm, mellow, cardamom dominant. I liked it. It was a good balance to the heavy meal. A couple notes - I see reviews complaining about heavy use of oil in the food. It is indulgent, heavy, often deep fried or heavily buttered (with ghee). Totally valid! However, going here will be the Indian vegetarian equivalent of eating a big, heavy brunch and needing to go into hibernation to recover. I had to drink tons of water, take a walk and a long nap to recover. So I recommend keeping your schedule open. As for cleanliness, I didn't walk around much, so cannot attest to trash, bathroom quality, etc. - the staff seems incredibly busy, so they deserve grace if the toilet was clogged once but I'd be upset if I told someone and no one fixed it within a reasonable amount of time. Our table was clean enough. The utensils and napkins are in a holder on the side of the table so I used a napkin and water to clean my spoon and fork before using. All in all, will I go back? Maybe if I'm in the area. But I don't know that it was special enough to drive for. My rating is a 3.5, which rounds up to 4. read more

The food here is genuinely excellent -- authentic, flavorful, and worth coming back for. But the table mat artwork is a serious miss. It depicts women confined to the kitchen and a young girl being trained into the same role, which reinforces outdated and regressive gender stereotypes. This isn't just "traditional" -- it sends the wrong message in a time when cooking is a shared responsibility and profession across all genders. Restaurants help shape culture, not just serve food. Continuing to display this kind of imagery feels careless and out of step with reality. At a minimum, replace it with something inclusive -- show men and women cooking together, highlight professional chefs of all genders, or simply focus on the food and culture itself without stereotyping. I ordered a malai kafta for delivery at work. It was just okay, not the best but eh. The rice was not basmanti rice, but clumpy jasmine rice. I requested utensils, and there were none. That was a bummer. The best and most surprising thing about the food though was the paneer naan. It was DELICIOUS. It was huge, spicy, and lightly filled with veggies. Firing on all cylinders from the time you are greeted and seated, the menu is clearly marked with an array of options from which to choose. The aura and energy of the atmosphere immediately transports you to India. I felt comfortable. What I truly appreciated was the depth of flavor. It is clear that they put a lot of love and care into their food. It was my second visit and I tried the paneer butter masala and butter naan. The lime soda was particularly refreshing and delicious. It will be my go-to menu items on future visits. Niki was our server and she made sure we had what we needed during our meal. I'm sharing this review after my **3rd visit**, and unfortunately, the experience has been disappointing every single time. **1. Seating arrangement:** I made a reservation for **6 people**, but we were given a table where even **5 people could barely sit comfortably**. This is the second time I've noticed that when some customers request better seating, they seem to get accommodated, while others are given poor seating arrangements. If reservations are made based on the number of people, seating should be properly managed. **2. No AC / uncomfortable atmosphere:** The restaurant had **no proper AC**, and it was extremely hot inside. Honestly, who can enjoy food while sweating in such heat? Paying around **$150 for an uncomfortable dining experience** does not feel worth it. **3. Food quality:** I have lived in Dallas for the past **6 years**, and this was honestly among the **worst food experiences** I've had. There was **no quality, no taste, and barely enough table space** to even keep food properly. Especially the **McKinney branch** -- I never had this kind of experience at the Irving location. * **Idli** - very poor taste * **Dosa** - honestly one of the worst dosas I've had; even dosa bandis are much better * **Corn** - probably the only decent item * They call it a "complete lunch," but many items were not even ready and the setup felt poorly managed * Their famous **Kheema Biryani** tasted completely different from the Irving branch and had **no flavor at all**. When asked why, nobody had an answer. **4. Service issues:** Service was very slow. * Water took **20 minutes** after requesting * Curd and additional items took too long to arrive * By the time things arrived, we had already finished eating The **only thing that came on time was the bill**, which made it feel like customer experience mattered less than collecting payment. Please focus on **staff management, food quality, seating, and customer experience**. If quality cannot be maintained consistently, especially between branches, don't waste customers' time and money. We've dined here a few times now and they operate very efficiently and the waitlist process is very organized. Be aware though that the wait times can get pretty long during peak lunch hours so I would suggest you go early (they have limited resys for lunch time). The food menu is huge and per the manager they've taken inspiration from various parts of south India and put it together and while they also have a North Indian section, you go here for what the name says "South". Dosas are excellent, the thali is very creative and the chutneys are so fun. Staff is polite and always on point. Keep up the great work team! read more

My son and I dropped by this establishment after shopping at Stonebriar. When we first walked in, we were greeted and seated at a table. There were many people standing around the host stand, but none seemed interested in checking on guests. I saw at least two people trying to flag down staff, not a good start. Once seated, the menu tablet decided to shut itself off. I should have taken that as a sign, but no, I pressed on. I ended up having to flag someone down to put the code in, which was 9999, as the server impatiently explained to me. Before she left, she made sure to tell me (in between coughs) that I could just use the QR code on the table. My first thought was: why give me a tablet in the first place? My son and I eventually settled on a family-sized dosa. He, having ingested too much tea, decided to head over to the restroom. This is where things literally went Simply South. He said there was one toilet with what appeared to be multiple bowel movements. He said the stench made him lose his appetite, and his will to live. On his way back from the restroom, he noticed boxes stacked in different areas of the restaurant. It didn't seem clean, and he felt uncomfortable dining there. Since he no longer had an appetite, we decided to leave before trying any of the food. I came in to order an entrée and instead left feeling like I needed to shake out my clothes. The two-star review reflects the service we experienced, the lack of attentiveness, and concerns about cleanliness. Hema was an awesome server. She took care of what we ordered. She was knowledgeable of the menu and guided us. While in Ashley furniture store, our sales agent recommended Simply South. We decided to give it a try. The restaurant was packed as it was Saturday evening. We got a table assigned in few mins. We ordered Thali and Benne Dosa. The thali came in quick time. My wife and I shared the thali as we were not aware that thali cannot be shared. Hema and other saw that but did not stop us at any time. About the thali, each and every item in thali was made to precision. Mango Dal, Drumstick tomato curry were very tasty. Palak paneer sabji was too good. Veg haleem was the first time I had in my life. Sweets were amazing; prasadam was divine. This place is a food lovers heaven. Never had such good food. There was no space in stomach for Benne Dosa. All the chutneys were very good. We could not stop ourselves the next day and ended up back to same place. We ordered Veg Kheema Dosa and Jack fruit fry biryani. Again the veg kheema was superb. It had the smoky flavor to it. there was lot of kheema in each bite. But the star of 2 days has to be their Jackfruit fry biryani. I can write one page worth of things on this biryani. Never in my life I had such an amazing tasting biryani. The flavors were so well balanced. Abundant jackfruit bites were there; almost in each bite. Jackfruit was so well cooked. The base of jackfruit had nice balanced flavor of coconut in it. The rice was perfectly cooked. Monika was our server and she was very good. She answered lot of our questions. Loved the brass look cutlery. This is a food paradise for people who have turned vegetarian after being non-veg eater for most of their life. One will never ever miss eating non-veg food. It is a over priced, underdelivered and extremely overhyped ,over publicised restaurant .In reality nothing is great in this restaurant .If you visit the restaurant in weekend at least you have to wait 30 to 45 minutes . Food is also not so great but the price of the food is highly exaggerated . Today we have visited the restaurant at Mckinney for lunch waited 45 minutes before our turn comes and ordered two thalis as well as al carte menu . Each thali cost $25 which is not worth that much but highly overpriced . There are good restaurants around where you can have lunch buffet for $25 with plenty of varieties. Also in one of the dish we found hair and informed waitress and they have no regret for that. So I will suggest people not to visit overhyped, over publicised , over priced and under performed restaurant. If there would be zero star I would have given that since that is not available giving single star. read more

She was extremely friendly, attentive, and made sure we were comfortable throughout our visit. Hima was patient in explaining the menu, gave excellent recommendations, and checked in regularly to ensure everything was perfect. Her warm and welcoming attitude truly enhanced our dining experience. The food was absolutely delicious and authentic. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with traditional South Indian spices. The dosas were crispy, the curries were rich and aromatic, and the chutneys and sambar tasted homemade.
