One of the best Vietnamese restaurant around the lower Bergen county area! I used to be a loyal patron of their former self - Mo Pho in Fort Lee and was very sad when the owner told me they were leaving to Tenafly. I loved their beef combination pho for the unusually rich and slightly pungent broth and generous portions of good quality ingredients. Well, that was nearly ten years ago and I am glad that I can say the SAME thing about their beef combo pho now in this "new" location. I was there for a Sunday lunch with a group of 8 friends and really enjoyed the beef combo pho. They also served the shrimp puffs with the hot dipping sauce as snacks when we sat down and those went pretty quickly. They gave us refills when asked to. Somehow there was some miscommunication between the servers and they forgot to give us a tray of sprouts, basil, lime wedge, and jalapeno peppers, but quickly recovered. They even gave free dumplings to one of my friends when they missed an order? or something. Nice gesture. Tenafly/Englewood peeps are lucky to have this gem nearby. Only other place that is on-par with them in the area is the Saigon Kitchen in Fort Lee that also offers robust pho (maybe lighter broth) but with larger seating area and impeccable service. Simply Vietnamese is my favorite place to get Vietnamese cuisine in northern New Jersey. The decor is simple and the space is tight (even after they expanded), but they do what they can to accommodate your party size. The food is satisfying and will hit all the spots your taste buds are desiring. In fact, I have never had a dish here that I didn't enjoy from the appetizers to their main dishes. Something I noticed on my most recent visit is that they have seasonal dishes that are posted on their chalkboard with the specials that evening. The seasonal dishes sound interesting, but I haven't tried them, so can't really tell you if they work - for example there was something pumpkin this weekend with a coconut sauce. The service is friendly, and reasonably attentive given how busy this place gets. Their prime dinner hour seems to start at 7PM, so come earlier if you want to walk in and be seated without a wait. And finally, my own personal cherry on top to Simply Vietnamese is that it's BYOB! read more

Had the summer rolls with shrimp, the house noodles with veggies, and a Thai ice tea. The summer rolls were delicious and came with a peanut n sauce. The house noodles were unfortunately smothered with way too much sauce and it was too, too salty (a little too sweet as well) and It just didn't feel healthy. I would not call this Vietnamese food. There are many other alternative places to eat good Viet food in Bergen County, go somewhere else instead. The "pho" broth was sweet and didn't have much beef in it - just bits of beef. The buns were sitting in so much oil (see photo). I had a really weird experience here. To start, the food was okay; I got the beef pho and my friend got the coconut lemongrass soup. The pho broth was pretty good, however, I personally did not like the ultra thin rice noodles; I tend to prefer more noodle bite in pho. I think what did it though was that the bowl was very small and the beef was of poor quality, chewy and overcooked. They did not have any rare beef options at all, just beef and beef balls as well as jerk beef pho. I wasn't really looking for the latter kind of fusion. My friend's coconut lemongrass soup was screaming for salt or acid, it was severely underseasoned. The coconut milk gave it a nice texture and broth feel, though. My friend commented that the chicken had a gummy/soft fast-food quality to it. Ultimately what really threw me off was the service. The staff was all super weird and robotic. Our main waiter never said "you're welcome" the dozen times I thanked him. None of them made eye contact at all, and they kept asking us if we were done eating even though it was clear that my friend had only eaten about a quarter of his food. It kind of rubbed me the wrong way and I probably wouldn't come back here. Either way, there certainly are better spots for Pho. read more

The food never disappoints. The service is on point. Lenny has been there for many years and is very helpful navigating you to the right food choices you desire. Their summer rolls are delicious, the chef's soup with rice noodles is substantial as well as the beef Pho is hearty and can be shared. Their shrimp sautéed with ginger and string beans very satisfying. The salads and sandwiches are so good. At the end, to give you an extra kick try a taste of the Vietnamese coffee, drip coffee with sweetened condensed milk. The shrimp puffs with the chili sauce are a delectable complimentary start to your experience here. The staff is well versed in the menu and will help if you have any type of food allergens. I have attached screenshots highlighting I tried contacting the business beforehand to report how rude the manager is. By asking to speak with owner about the manager having an attitude when I asked where my food is and he said "dude it right over there" and asked to speak with manager and he said "I am the manager". As you can see on my Facebook message to Simply Vietnamese it was ignored. They didn't ask what the issue was or anything. In addition, I have attached my DoorDash receipt which you will notice is the day before I contacted the business to address my complaint. This is the behavior of an unhappy customer. Not "conflict of interest". Not sure if Simply Vietnamese is an advertiser with Yelp as the real reason for my review being removed. However, Simply Vietnamese can do better by just addressing customers complaints directly. read more

I've only ever ordered takeout for delivery from here. I absolutely love my food every single time. When I'm in the mood for a really delicious chicken pad Thai, I come here. When I'm in the mood for fresh and yummy summer rolls, this place has got it! It's the only things I've ordered from here thus for. The food here is not THAT bad... but mediocre food paired with horrendous service is definitely a no-no. We ordered the house noodles with chicken. Please don't get this - it was oily and way too salty. When we complained, rather than apologizing, our waiter kept on saying that's how it's normally made. Thankfully, he gave us a new dish. The pho here is OK. The beef is thicker than usual, but it was fine. The broth was on the sweeter side... Not my favorite. We got the spicy lemongrass soup - this was better than the other two noodle dishes we had, but nothing special. The coconut and spicy flavor was good but again, it was too oily. Throughout the entire meal, we REALLY struggled with the service here. We were here on a Sunday afternoon so it was pretty busy but they never came to refill our water or tea. Every time we needed something, we constantly had to wave and flag down anyone who was walking by. Not once did our waiter stop at our table on his own. There really aren't many pho places in this area, so I would be willing to try here again because I've heard the duck noodle soup is really good here. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone because it's just MEH all around. I thought because of the name I was going to embark into a journey with my tastebuds. However that was not the case. Everything was bland, from the summer roll that had old refrigerator lettuce taste to the beef pho which was nothing like a pho I ever tasted. I was very disappointed and unpleased. After reading so many great reviews, decided to stop in for lunch. We were served complimentary shrimp chips with a side of dipping sauce. I passed on the chips, as I was so prepared to slurp and sip my Pho to the bare bottom of the bowl. I ordered the Spicy Jerk Beef Pho. I found no spice to this Pho. The broth had an overwhelming sweetness to it. I though it was my bowl since I decided to do the Spicy Jerk, and not traditional beef. My friend who had the chicken Pho, said the same thing about his broth. I had to cover my Pho with sriracha to rid the sweetness, but that didn't work. Came here 2 times, my 1st experience was good - got the spicy jerk beef pho which was a little bit salty since the jerk beef & broth were both seasoned. Second time around I got the Spicy Beef entree and it was just not good. The beef was swimming in hoisin sauce and my dish came with a side of raw baby bok choy that had a foreign object in it that looked like an insect wing (I could be wrong but that's what it looked like). Mystery foreign object is a nono for me, let alone an insect wing-looking thing. Overall, this is not an authentic pho place, everything is a little over-seasoned for my taste and does not compare to other places I've been to. Great place to eat in Tenafly! I've been a resident of this town for about 18 years and this restaurant is one of the best places I've been to so far. It has a very casual vibe so you can go with any kind of group. There is a lot of seating for mid-sized parties but a bit cramped for larger parties. I would say parties of up to 4 would be seated relatively quickly - whereas larger parties would have to be accommodated for. I've tried their Pho, Salad, Pad Thai - and ALL of them were super good! Eat their shrimp chips which they give to you for free to munch on while you wait for your food. Dip it in the sweet sauce :) and ask for more!! These are delicious! read more
