Of all Asian food styles, Vietnamese is my favorite. I found this place via Trip Advisor, driving there from Teterboro Airport. Arrived early, not knowing if the place would be busy (hardly anyone there at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday evening). Service started out really really slow, then picked up as the food started coming out. Ordered the Mini Spring Rolls. They came with lettuce to wrap around each roll. These were so-so. Also ordered the steamed pork dumplings, which were very delicious. My entrée was the Spicy Saigon Chicken, came with white rice. This was delicious, though I thought it should have been a bit spicier. Came with about 5 cut strips of duck on top of noodles and vegetables. Very tasty soup that I actually drank and finished the rest of the bowl, which I don't normally do. Just tried this place out for the first time over the weekend. My partner had just come back from a grueling 100 mile bike workout in preparation for next year's AIDS Run, and we happened to pass it by and grabbed a take out menu. Later that evening, we decided to order some in. I found the menu buried underneath a stack of International Male catalogs. I had the Pho and my partner got the House Special Noodles and two apps, the New Zealand Mussles and Curry Chicken skewers. The Pho (with beef) was wonderful, aromatic and hearty. I worried about the noodles getting soggy but the noodles in the take out bag came packaged seperately from the broth, great! The House Noodles were delicious, like a cross between a Pad Thai and a Lo Mein. The Mussles smelled divine, were a tiny bit overdone, as were the skewers, very very tasty but a bit over-grilled. All in all, we really enjoyed the food. Also, Tenafly is a bit off the beaten path so a huge plus for this place is that it gives you a solid Vietnamese choice right in town. I'm Vietnamese and from Houston, Texas (where a ton of Vietnamese live), so I've had my fair share of Vietnamese food. I took my girlfriend here and wasn't too impressed. I got Pho with shrimp (I usually get pho no vien and never ordered with shrimp) and while the broth was really good, the noodles were disappointing. They just didn't taste that fresh. The shrimp was great, however. My girlfriend got veggie fries dumplings and white rice. The dumplings were awesome and she loved it! We ended up getting some to go because they were so good. Service was good and really fast even on a Saturday night. The restaurant was it's byob and has outside seating. That made the restaurant 4 stars instead of 3. read more

I love love love the pad thai here!! I always ask for extra spicy but its never really spicy. But I could deal bu asking for extra chili sauce. I love the chips they give you before your meal to snack on. We often come in hungry for lunch, and it helps the excessive hunger and wait for food. They have a lunch special which is the several dinner items at a slightly lower price. The noodle soup however.. I ordered twice and will never order again. The soup is really really sweet compared to any other pho/viet noodle soup places. Even my friends think it is too sweet for thei tastes. So if you dont like sweet soup, I would just stick to the other dishes on the menu. read more

We were happily introduced to Simply Vietnamese about a month ago by friends of ours. We had a great time with some really delicious food and great company. So we just went back for my wife's birthday with just the immediate family and enjoyed the food even without the company and conversation of our friends. The sweet chili mango & chicken summer rolls (special) were an amazing starter, light and flavorful in a thin soy wonton...happy to see it wasn't fried. My wife loved the savory curry coconut shrimp while I decided to venture onto the specials menu again and have the grilled shrimp over pesto fried rice....amazing! Complex flavors in simple execution always comes out best. Portions are comfortable, but we don't need or want massive plates all the time. We had the appetizer Bao Bun with BBQ pork and Pickled Vegetables, and the Ginger Shrimp Entree with String Beans. The food was seasoned well, cooked to the perfect finishing state and tasted delicious. Both items were nicely plated, composed, not just thrown onto the plate and colorful. The food titles could use a little more description as the entree came with a nice dome of rice and another vegetable but one can not complain that a dish was even better than expected. Atmosphere was casual during our mid afternoon lunch. We were allowed to choose our seats and were promptly offered beverages and menus. Service was attentive and well deserving of a 20% tip. I had high hopes because of the good reviews, but this place left me disappointed. We had the beef pho, the spicy beef pho, and the roasted duck soup. I didn't finish the duck soup. It lacked flavor in the broth, the bok choi was overcooked and very bitter, the noodles might as well have come out of an instant ramen packet, and the duck was just ok. The pho was ok but nothing special. Broth was ok but the portions of meat and noodles were small. My cousins didn't like it but did finish theirs. We paid about $20/person total. I'd say that's about twice as much as pho should cost. Definitely not coming back here next time I'm visiting from SoCal read more

We have enjoyed eating st Simply Vietnamese for over four years. The service has always been (and continues to be) friendly and professional. However last night was not up to par. Upon seating we noticed a number of gnats flying around the dining room. After killing a few, my fiancé was unable to continue our meal. I went to the front desk to ask for a check I told the person there (I assume an owner or manager) about our experience and he said without looking at me "ok ok no need to pay just go". When I told him that we have enjoyed dining there in the past and that this is something they should attend to he just continued to say "ok ok" without looking at me. I am a super big fan of Thai/Vietnamese food so have tried about every Thai and Vietnamese restaurant in the area. Simply Vietnamese has pretty good pad thai. They use pretty large shrimp which is a plus. The pho on the other hand was really bad and filled with MSG because it made not just me but everyone that had the pho sleepy. Save your money! This is the worst experience I've ever had with ordering from Yelp. People like this don't deserve your business. We ordered from them for the first time last weekend and the food wasn't bad. I had tipped 10% in addition to their $9 delivery fee, but the delivery guy gave ugly looks and didn't say a word (not what you would expect). I didn't make anything of it. My sis suggested that we check out this Vietnamese restaurant for lunch. I work in NYC so I rarely try restaurants in NJ where I live. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and soup dishes and entrees. Appetizers were rather disappointing. Not bad in taste but the portion was small. I had pho which was surprisingly good and tasted rich though slightly too sweet. My husband ordered duck noodle which was flavorful too. My sis had bahn mi which wasn't authentic and I don't recommend it. It had no pork pate and pork wasn't that good either...rather dry. My other sis had pai thai..while sweet, it was surprisingly good as well...portion was pretty good too. We also ordered a dish of jasmine rice with pork. They used the same pork uesd in Bahn mi..so it was rather dry. I personally would never pay more than $10 for a bowl of pho but I believe their pho is definitely more than $10 if you come here for dinner. read more

Light, fresh and authentic southeast Asian fare that is on another level. The spring and summer rolls are always a hit, he pad Thai is best around and the duck is unbeatable. Fresh herbs and great preparation go into every dish. It's very reasonably priced for what you get and perfect to share. Eat in, takeout and delivery are all great options. Despite coming here every other week due to its proximity from my church and a lack of better choices nearby, it's not hard to be objective about Simply Vietnamese. Don't get me wrong. There are things I really like about this place. The shrimp(?) chips and dipping sauce they provide as a snack are addicting. The spring rolls are pretty good. Most importantly, the pho is tasty without being too heavy, and you can opt for a vegetarian broth, even if you decide to put meat in. That seems contradictory, I know, but my wife loves it. That being said, Simply seems to tailor their dishes to American taste buds, and most of their dishes sadly don't even taste remotely Vietnamese. Take the banh mi, for example. I swear they put some kind of mayo in it, which essentially makes it NOT banh mi, but whatever. This has been my go to spot for pho since their other location closed in Fort Lee. We always order the pho chicken and bahn mi sliders. Our service is always good since we are regulars and they know all of our quirks (straws for water, no red onion in pho, extra shrimp chips, etc.). We always come back bc the pho broth is perfect. i've been here several times for lunch and dinner...probably because this is the closest pho spot near me and it's good but nothing super special to call out. i primarily come here for the beef pho and banh mi sliders..although i think their main entrees are probably more worth it - grilled pork chops, spicy saigon chicken, pad thai, etc. the service is good, but spotty depending where you sit.. they can forget about you aka filling water, checking up, bill. the resto has seating outside and pretty spacious inside.. no parking lot, just street parking but usually not an issue. nonetheless, i always find myself back here! read more
