Scammers. Avoid. They charged me out of pocket for a "check-up" and cleaning that was fully covered by my insurance. This office was assigned as my PCP office for my dental insurance. I went in for a cleaning (check-ups and cleaning fully covered with no out-of-pocket) and they insisted they had to do a check-up even though I had been under care of a different dentist the prior month. Billed me for the check-up and cleaning and when I said it was covered my insurance, they showed me some bogus paper and insisted it was not. Sure enough, I spoke to insurance and it was covered. I have used Dr. Kniter's services in the past before the pandemic and never have had any issues. However, at least a few years have passed and I had a crown that I had done at UCLA fall out. This also happened about three or four years ago and was the reason for my last appointment with Dr. Kniter. At that time, she recommended an implant that I could not afford at the time, so she offered to cement the crown back in informing me that it wouldn't last long. It lasted for four years until recently when it fell out again. It had been years since I had a cleaning. Hence, I called her office, now on Santa Monica Boulevard, and informed the receptionist of my situation and also that I would like to schedule a cleaning since it had been so long. I knew that my dental insurance provided for one free cleaning every six months so I decided to have that done. I went on March 31, 2022, to have the cleaning done. I did not think to bring the crown that had fallen out, though I had saved it, because this was for a cleaning, not for the servicing of the crown. I received multiple x-rays and photos of my teeth, including where the crown was previously and then I received my cleaning. At the end of the cleaning, the dentist came into the office with a dental plan and also informed me that he would need to see the crown to know if it was still salvageable and that I would need to make another appointment and bring the crown in with me, which I did. After the cleaning, I was charged $134, which included a toothpaste that was recommended for me by the hygienist. I paid, but in the back of my mind wondered why I was being charged, as I had not yet had my free cleaning provided by my insurance. Also according to the receptionist I was not able to get an itemized bill at that time, I would need to wait a couple of days. which I thought was odd but it didn't bother me because I knew I would be back for my next appointment in a few days for the crown and could ask for a copy then. I went in and was charged $150 Monday of this week to cement the crown in again. I asked for itemized and was given the same response as last time. Today I was looking at my original bill and saw that I was charged for something called "Full Mouth Debridement" code D9630. I had to look it up and it is a medical term defined as "the removal of damaged tissue or foreign objects from a wound." I was charged this the day of my cleaning? Why? My insurance company called on my behalf and the front desk person, Marsha, claimed it was not a dental cleaning. Well in fact it was a dental cleaning and a "debridement" as far as I am concerned did not occur. This is why I was charged a fee on the day of a dental cleaning that is meant to be free and part of my insurance plan. After this experience, I will not be going back and I honestly do not trust how they operate in this office. I have changed over my primary care dentist immediately and Dr. Kniter's office will get not one more dollar from me. I would highly recommend you stay away from this office. It is 2022 and you cannot give me an itemized bill at the end of my appointment but you can collect your payment immediately based on these codes? This is a shady operation and my recommendation would be to steer clear of this office. read more

I wish I read all these reviews before...probably wouldn't become a victim of this dental office...They care only about money here and NOT patients. They will add wrong billing codes or unnecessary ones to your billing statement, so always verify EVERYTHING with your insurance provided from these guys. For example I was always charged for "doctor's visit"when it was covered by my insurance...and I blindly believed them...until they faced me with bigger bill. There is no customer service whatsoever. They inform about charges for their services AFTER they've been provided. So if you don't ask beforehand, they won't bother to explain anything to you. I am writing this only for future patients to reconsider visitng this office. It should be called Hollywood frown dentist instead of Hollywood Smile. I have been a patient for over 10 yrs when I did not have insurance, Then I decided to get some and the doctor decided to keep my reimbursement. It has been over 6 months and they have ignored my correspondences. I paid upfront for a root canal and crown and the insurance co reimbursed the dentist. The check was for $534.The doctor or Masha her account mgr with attitude said I was entitled to only $300 of the $534 since the EOB said the doctor undercharged me $200. The EOB is inconsequential since I paid upfront $1750 for the procedure. I even offered to negotiate and split the $200 and take $434 and be done with this mess. Silence. We are talking about not a lot of money in the scheme of things. This is about a code of ethics that this company has completely ignored. Now I have to go to small claims court to get my money. My advise is to stay clear of them if you have insurance. They will try to manipulate you and the system. I could tell you another doozy of a story but I dont want to influence anyone more than I have to. read more

They then told me I had to come back in two months for a deep cleaning and told me I had two cavities. I'm super picky with choosing my dentist--in the same way I would be with choosing a surgeon. At almost 50 years of age, and having lived in cities all over the US (and overseas) I've seen my fair share of dentists. Some great, some not-so-great. And some who shouldn't even be in practice. So, I feel my judgement comes from much experience. First off, I need a dentist who doesn't try to oversell me on procedures that aren't required. But more importantly, I need a dentist with steady and precise hands. I have a missing tooth in the back from about 12 years ago where my former dentist messed up what should have been simple, routine, procedure. This was mostly, I feel, due to her over-gentle, clumsy, grip on her tools. I went through several dentists near me in DTLA and had lackluster to poor experiences with all of them. Finally, I decided to check out the WEHO area in the hopes that since it's a more affluent area the quality of service may be better on that side of town. And, I was right. I found Hollywood Smile (Sinaida Kniter, D.D.S.) and I've been going back to her for about five years now. Making the 30 minute drive each way is worth it. She has a firm grip, both in a metaphoric sense--her office is full of competent, professional, and friendly staff that all operate together like a well tuned machine, but also in a literal sense-- she has great hands and my procedures always go smoothly. And the advise Dr Kniter gives me always feels honest and expert. I highly recommend her. She is moving her office to Santa Monica since her office building is being demolished for a new condo going into that place. But I'll happily make the drive from DTLA to Santa Monica to see her. read more

My review is lengthy but definitely worth the read. I have two fears. Two MAJOR fears. One is flying and the other is visiting the dentist. I know many people have fears of going to the dentist but I never knew anyone else's reasons for it. Mine have to do with the noises of the dental instruments and just over all the uncomfortableness. It was time for a check up. A check up really means it was time for me to go to the dentist and hear everything that's wrong with my teeth and everything I need to fix. This time was different... The best decision I ever made was to go to Dr. Sina. I came into the open shopping plaza and found parking in .02 seconds. I went up the stairs towards the office. There's an elevator right next to the office in case you can't take the stairs. I walked in and was greeted by the sweetest receptionist, Lana. Receptionist/boss (the kind of people you don't mind speaking to, hearing from, the ones that get to the point and make sure your visit is superb and most importantly, efficient. Lana was amazing. She knew I was coming in and was ready with my paper work. I sat down in this cozy waiting room, filled everything out and gave it back to Lana. I emailed my insurance card since I only had a picture of it on my phone--and was escorted to the back to have my x rays done. I've had x rays taken before but this was something else--no uncomfortableness and it was quick and easy. I'm telling you, they get things done fast and most importantly, proficiently. Dr. Sina came in, sweetest, kindest, most gentle soul. Beautiful! Truly nice to look at. Some of you don't care about that but I personally do (sorry not sorry). Dr. Sina is the type of person you want to keep talking to. She cares. She cares more than you would care about your own teeth. She looked at the x rays and made sure to tell me exactly what was going on with my teeth. She told me my problem areas and the parts that were good (that's nice to hear too). I got to see all my pictures and x rays on the screen in front of me. I had cavities, dental crowns needed replacement, my grinding situation needed to be fixed and much more. Dr. Sina gave me options of different ways to handle it all and every possible approach in order to get my teeth back on the right track. After I heard everything and felt good about the path I decided to take. Usually, an appointment like this would take double the time but I was in and out, feeling great! Dr. Sina walked me back to the receptionist, stood with me while I scheduled my next appointment and I left! With a goody bag of things :) I found the perfect dentist, everything you want in the person who truly cares about your teeth and invests effort into the future of your teeth. I left extremely pleased and even excited. I'm happy to say I have no fears about coming back to this cozy caring dental office! DO NOT GO HERE! SUPER SKETCHY. Here is what happened: Went in for routine cleaning, everything seemed normal with the staff. Yes, they tried to upsell me on some gum cleaning for like $300, no thanks. The dentist found one new cavity and recommended I get an old cavity re-filled. Ok, sounds great. My insurance covers routine fillings for free.... But the dentist told me it would be $200 for each cavity, and that insurance doesn't cover white fillings, only silver ones which they don't do anymore. NOT TRUE. My insurance told me that if an office does not offer silver fillings, they must give white ones which would be covered. I told this info to the office staff, namely Masha. She gave me the runaround, I heard things like "the lady who does the billing is out now and we don't know when she will be back" and "we are a dentist we do not deal with billing codes" FALSE. She even threatened that I owe them extra for coming in during the COVID pandemic...LOL. She also refused to provide me my medical records, until I showed up IN PERSON and demanded them. They gave me the run around for weeks. "We will have the doctor call you". Never called. Doctor doesn't seem to care if my cavities turn into a root canal... more money for them I guess? But no because I will never return to this place ever again. Extremely unprofessional its unbelievable. I usually do not write reviews but this was so bad I felt I needed to warn others. Always do your research. I speak from experience, as I recently learned my lesson the hard way. I had been sans dental insurance for about 10 years, so upon getting insurance through a new employer in January, I rushed to make all the appointments, including one with Smile Hollywood on Sunset and Crescent Heights. My company has every other Friday off, so I made an appointment for one of those off Fridays. But, when I showed up, they had no record of me or my appointment. This should have been a red flag, but I stuck around like a dummy. About an hour after my scheduled appointment time, I was finally shown to a chair where they did X-rays and the usual dentist-type checkup routine. I was told I needed a deep cleaning, (I saw that one coming), and I was also told I had something like 12 cavities. The dentist was kind of rude, too, as he scolded me, without sympathy, while I cried. As someone who has never had dental issues in her life, 12 cavities seemed excessive. I left in tears at the thought of someone drilling 12 holes in my teeth, and paying thousands of dollars (their original quote was in the upwards of $1,500). I opted to get Care Credit, as that's a lot of money for me. I looked them up on Yelp! and saw their terrible reviews written by people just like me who had been scammed by these fraudulent doctors. After seeing one star review after one star review, friends and family convinced me to get a second opinion. I made an appointment (AFTER doing my research) with another dentist in my network. I finally saw him on Friday, and he said, "Well, my dear, I'm happy to tell you that you don't have any cavities. Not even one." I was floored. What happened to the claim that nearly half my teeth had cavities?? I got the deep cleaning from him the next day and will be changing my plan and dentist in September for my 6-month checkup. If you're like me, get a second opinion. Or better yet, avoid these guys at all costs if you want to save time and money. read more

Ive never left a bad review but I just want to give my honest opinion for anyone thinking of going here. Initially, I had a decent experience - went in for a routine cleaning after my dental insurance assigned me here. Despite it being one of the roughest cleanings I've endured (and being charged after telling them my insurance fully covers regular cleanings), I haven't been to the dentist since 2020 so I figured I needed it. After taking a few x-rays, I was told I had 15 cavities. Which is astronomical but considering I haven't had a check up during the pandemic, I had no idea what to believe. I wasn't seen by the dentist in person but she called me back after reviewing my blurry x rays. The receptionist ended up quoting me almost $2000 in treatments, combining different insurance codes for one tooth to make it as expensive as possible. I ended up asking for a second opinion (fortunately, they sent me my x rays without a problem) and surely enough I didn't have 15 cavities + the procedures did not add up to $2000. Although I didn't mind paying that if need be, overcharging patients just to make a profit is disappointing. read more

These people are scammers. I went twice, supposedly just for a basic cleaning which was 100% covered by my insurance and each time they did a different cleaning that cost $$. They also tried to pull the deep cleaning and cavity scams on me that I've seen mentioned by other people on here. A change in insurance forced me to look for another dentist. So I selected this dental office based on customer reviews on my plan's website. During my check-up, I was due a cleaning and was upsold (from my free cleaning) to a deeper cleaning with antibiotics, costing me $120. Fine. I then was examined by a doctor who seemed inexperienced. Regarding my treatment, he made a dental assessment which contradicted previous dentists' assessments. When I challenged him, he said that he would consult with the managing dentist and he'd call me in the afternoon. I received no such call that day or the day after. The day after that, I received a text asking me to rate the service and provide feedback. I rated them poorly (as I had to be honest) and was assured by the survey that the information I had provided would be reviewed and the office would reach out regarding concerns. It's been a month and no one from the office has reached out regarding my unpleasant experience. Unprofessional to say the least. read more

I have only gone here just for cleaning since I've been lucky enough not to have any dental issues. I had a couple of good hygienists do the cleaning but they no longer work there. After that I only have had bad experiences, the hygienists are not very nice some are rough on your mouth. The staff is not very professional, also they try to get any extra money possible out of you by changing the price with lame excuses and constantly telling you they need to take X-rays when they are not needed, (I swear they must have taken like about 15 X-rays in a few years I have gone there). Do not recommend this practice. There are plenty other decent dentist offices to go to. read more

My experience with Hollywood Smile and Dr. Sinaida Kniter's office, happens to be one of the best experiences I've ever had with a dentist. I have a short story here.... In late 2019, I went in for a cleaning, knowing I had some other issues much more serious, including a root canal. My appt was on New Years Eve. When I arrived, I had a really good vibe about the place (new location). Unfortunately, once the attending dentist began the procedure, I had a panic attack, which stopped the procedure. They all were so nice and understanding about my situation. It wasn't due to anything they did or didn't do.... I was going through some other things. I rescheduled my procedure for two months later. That appt time came and I rescheduled it again, afraid my panic attack would reoccur.... and then Covid showed up. We rescheduled it May and finally completed the root canal, a crown and a couple other minor things. Bottom line.... my experience with Dr. Kniter's staff was excellent. Everyone of them! And Dr. Kniter was amazing and understanding about my situation every step of the way. I am happy to call them my Dentists! By the way, I've never been more happy with my smile!
