Singkawang Cafe is located in a plaza across the street from Nick's burgers with parking available. In the plaza itself, there is a hidden badminton gym. I had this restaurant bookmarked for quite some time and finally got to try this restaurant two Saturdays ago. What initially made me bookmark this restaurant on Yelp was for the food itself (I am a big fan of curry laska) and also the outdoor dog friendly seating that also happens to be covered (which is nice when it's sunny). I went inside to let an employee know that we would like to eat outside, while my husband and our little girl dog were outside. The employee brought us menus. After we looked them over, we ended up ordering: #18, Mixed Rice/ Nasi Campur, $16.95 prior to tax- My husband ordered this dish. The dish came with 5 different types of proteins (chicken, crispy pork, Chinese sausage, barbeque pork and a hard boiled egg that is sliced in half) that is served on top of a bed of rice. It also comes with a small bowl of soup as well. I thought the barbeque pork was pretty good and well seasoned and flavored. But I didn't try the other items. My husband liked this dish but thought it was kind of odd that this dish had Chinese sausage because usually he has had that mixed in a dish or a side (such as sticky rice or clay pot rice dishes, etc) and not served like this by itself as a protein. #17 Curry Laksa/ Laksa Kari, $14.95 prior to tax- I ordered this dish and really liked it. But I did find it to be a little too spicy for me, as the spice lingered (I am not much of a spicy eater and my husband thought it was not spicy at all). This dish was was served with rice noodle, tofu, fish cakes and shrimp. I thought the dish was filling and really was a fair share to share. -------------------------------- (Total= $39.25 after tax + tip) Service was friendly and prompt. Our water dish was filled regularly even though we were sitting outside (and the only ones outside). Overall, I enjoyed my meal here. But I do feel that the price might be a little bit more expensive than what I was expecting. But would dine here again with our little girl.
Dined in for dinner on 10/31/25. It was empty and the parking lot was almost full for some reason. I ordered the seafood fried rice and my girlfriend ordered the Indonesian beef soup, but wow the food was delicious and affordable! Most dishes were less than $17 and the portions were big! If you want authentic Indonesian food, this is the spot! If you like spicy, they have it here! Seafood rice: good portions of seafood! 4/5 Indonesian beef soup: super flavorful! 5/5
3.5 stars for me. Came here with my family. We ordered calamari and fried chicken for the appetizer. The calamari was ok. Fried chicken had a lot of spices, but weirdly didn't have a lot of flavor and wasn't crispy. I ordered the beef ball soup. The flavor was a bit bland. The meatballs and tofu was what I expected. My family ordered a lot of other dishes like the Jump noodles, fried rice, pad see ew, laksa and some others. Most of the dishes needed more flavor, but if you like spicy then it may be good. I am not a big fan of spicy foods. The service was great! The server was very nice and the chef also came out to ask us how everything was. They had a variety of Indonesian snacks which was nice to see.
I've been going to this place for almost decade and I'm always excited everytime they're adding new menus whether it's seasonal or permanent. The staff are the friendliest and the most accommodating you could ever found. They have some Indonesian snacks available to buy. Parking is plenty in the plaza. It's located next to the badminton indoor court. Three vibes is homey.
I've been meaning to try more south eastern restaurants and had this saved for a while, just to realize that it was the restaurant connected to the badminton club (labc). None the less, the food was pretty good but I wouldn't say it was the BEST indonesian/thai food I've had. Still a good quick bite to grab if you're in the mood for these flavors
Stopped by with my mom during lunch time on Saturday, 06/07/25. This place serves my mom's hometown food! Ordered the following: - 1 #16 - Jump Mein = $14.95 - 1 #L12 - 3 Flavors Shrimp and Scallops = $14.95 - 1 Es Cendol = $6.50 SUBTOTAL = $36.40 TAX = $3.82 TIP = $10 TOTAL = $50.22 The food was really good and the menu gave us a bunch of options to choose from. My mom enjoyed her meal however feels like this place is a bit overpriced. This indo restaurant is very authentic; they also sell some indo snacks inside (mini market) which is also overpriced. We also received some complimentary soup and dessert (red bean).
This place is so damn good! Discovered this place from Peter and Lisa's YouTube video and it did not disappoint. It's a family-owned restaurant with a small market with snacks and other Indonesian goodies. The Choi pan (steamed dumplings) were different but tasty slightly crunchy and flavorful. Our favorite dish was the Nasi Campur (mixed rice). Each meat was cooked to perfection and so tasty. My partner literally said it's one of the best pork bellies he's ever had and all pork bellies should aspire to be that. Get the mix rice for sure.
Our party of 11 was taken in for dinner close to last call but they were accommodating and served up all our orders very quickly. My mixed rice has a tasty spread of proteins. The crispy pork had the perfect bite- not teeth breaking hard and not too much fat, it was rendered perfectly! Not pictured is the Laksa that was so flavorful, close to the experience I had in Singapore years ago. If you want are craving Indonesian, Singaporean, or Thai food, keep this place in mind!
I enjoyed my lunch at Singkawang Cafe. The kweitiau goreng was good and I loved the fresh in-house made soy milk. There are lots of Malaysian, Chinese and Thai options on the menu. Service was good and the TV had music videos playing.
o3.14.2o25 Very yummy food, even for to-go. I bet it'll be even be tastier if we dined in. We got the laksa curry with rice noodles, mixed rice aka nasi campur, and crab meat fried rice. The roasted pork were spicy crispy and the fried garlic sauce was still very crunchy even when we got home in a closed container. The laksa curry was really good with a kick of spiciness. Each orders came with eggs so we got to eat some eggs if you know what I mean. Hahaha Definitely plan on trying other dishes here.
Wanted to get take-out on NYE, when I called around 7:30pm , they said they closed early for NYE. So on 1/2, we tried again and got the crab meat fried rice and Nasi Padang. The crab meat fried rice tasted like shrimp paste. Very strong flavor. The Nasi Padang was quite spicy and delicious. Highly recommended this place if you are in town!
still 3.5, i got curry laksa and SKW fried rice. their fried rice was really good, i didn't like the laksa much though. I would prefer to have more flavor in my laksa, it did still taste good but felt like it was lacking something. i also got thai tea (premade so you can't ask for less sweet), still good.
In search of local Indonesian restaurant in the area, and very happy to try this place! Authentic Asian cuisine from Indonesia, Chinese and Thai cuisine listed in the menu. Abundance of choice for everyone. Opted beef meatball soup specialty of Singkawang (a place in Borneo in island) and beef fried rice; both are tasty. If you are craving for some Indonesian spice and snack they have selection at little store too. Awesome service, casual ambiance and authentic taste.

My boyfriend and I wanted to do a date night and since I was craving Thai food, he found this place. Singkawang is an Indonesian/Thai restaurant, which I thought was interesting because we both haven't had Indonesian food before. We ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice, Popcorn Chicken, and the Nasi Padang. Food and service was great and quick, would come back to try the other items :) read more

I was looking for a new place to have lunch with my coworker and we stumbled upon this café. Serves a combination of Thai and Indonesian food specifically Kalimantan style Indonesian food. We ended up ordering beef pad se you and crab meat fried rice. The graph me a photo wise to not have a lot of crab meat and was ok tasting. The beef dish was good but it was too oily. I wish it had more portions of beef. Overall this café has indoor as well as outdoor dining. There's also a small section where you can buy Indonesian and Thai style snacks. They have lunch specials for a reasonable price and parking is plentiful. Service is friendly and they are quick to refill our drinks. read more

Everything we had was excellent. I couldn't get enough of the Laksa Kari (Curry Laksa) it was comforting, delicious and hearty. The right amount of spice. For me. We also had the Nasi Lamak and Crispy Chicken Wings. I need to go back again and try out everything on the menu read more

Confirmed again that their Nasi lemak is excellent, and curry laksa authentic. Their outdoor seating is high walled, well spaced and shaded. I'm eating there next time. I've seen a lot of poorly setup outdoor seating, Singkawang is 5 stars in comparison and Covid19 safe! read more
As Spring Break draws to a close, the last thing I wanted to do last night was mess up the kitchen and cook a meal... so good ol' Yelp recommended Singkawang Cafe... I ordered up a few items, and the Hub de Grub delivered it to my door in 45 minutes flat. This was our first time enjoying a meal from Singkawang, and it joins a growing list of restaurants I hope to visit with my family when LACDPH can figure out how to let us enjoy a meal without plenary and mercurial oversight. But suffice to say, the "dine at home" version is great. It seems the to-go menu is missing a few items that show on the "fine-in" menu... another reason to visit in person soon. We ordered the usuals: Pad Thai, Lardna, Yellow Curry, and a new dish I'd never tried: crispy pork with Chinese Broccoli. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the portions were sized for sharing. I ordered two extra small containers of white rice, and it was enough for our family of five. One note: to go did not give options for level of spiciness; however, the containers of hot sauce were some of the hottest Indonesian stuff I've ever enjoyed! Took my head off, and that's saying something for a guy who orders "Native hot" and fancies himself El Gigante Picante. Glad to support a local restaurant, and hope you and your family do too. I called in my order for pick up: papaya salad 5/5, pad se ew beef 4/5, and lunch special spicy cat fish 5/5! Our order took about 20 mins for pick up. Definitely going to explore the menu more for lunch specials as it comes with 2 fried wontons, rice, and a delicious soup! read more

I had lunch at Singkawang Cafe 2 days in a row and was not disappointed! I tried both the "3 Flavors Fish" and "Pad See-ew" on the lunch special menu. First came out the included soup, which had a tasty sour kick that was actually pretty addicting. The crispy fish fillet had some sweet and sour seasoning with peas, carrots, and diced red bell pepper. I tend to like the sweet, tangy flavor of typical Thai food, and this dish more than satisfied my cravings. The savory pad see-ew noodles with pork were just as delicious, and the ratio of protein, veggies, and noodles was perfect to me. Both the Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee are rich, and I think the price is fair compared to some other places. The restaurant has an aisle of Indonesian dry food/snacks that you can purchase in the back. Just keep in mind that any orders totaling under $10 will incur an extra $0.50 charge on credit cards. The dining area is spacious, clean, and relaxed, with both ethnic and Western music playing in the background. The service was friendly and attentive! All in all, I look forward to coming back to try the Indonesian classics next time. read more

I was on my way to Santa Anita Mall to shop for some clothes, so I stopped here with my parents for lunch. Singkawang serves a combination of Thai and Indonesian food - specifically Kalimantan style Indonesian food. My father, who grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia, tends to prefer Jakarta style Indonesian food, but we still wanted to give this place a try, particularly because it serves laksa. We ended up ordering a curry laksa, nasi kuning, and yellow curry lunch special. The yellow curry lunch special is a fairly standard Thai restaurant lunch special, and comes with rice, soup, and two fried wontons. The nasi kuning was pretty good, though I wish the rendang beef portion was a bit more generous. The sambal was really good with the turmeric rice. My favorite dish of the day was the curry laksa, which was just the slightest bit spicy without being overpowering. read more
I love Indonesian and Malaysian food. A place like this is hard to find even in the sgv. The closest thing to this is Borneo in Alhambra. Im amazed there's a place like this just a mile away from home! Kalimantan refers to the Indonesian region of the island of Borneo which shares the island with Malaysia. Amhere you can get Indonesian, malaysia and thai dishes. Since thai restaurants are a dime a dozen I'd suggest you order Indonesian or Malaysian dishes here. Though I have to say the Thai food is good too. Food: Nasi Lemak - beef stew, coconut curry shrimp, fried anchovies, peanuts and rice. Pretty spicy plate. Very flavorful and one of the best nasi lemaks I've had leaving a bigger mark than the one I had in Malaysia. Empak Empak - fried fish paste with egg inside and sweet sauce outside. A bit doughy for my liking and fish cake lacked a bit of flavor. Curry laksa - curry soup with egg noodles, shrimp and fish cake. Flavor packed with nice spicy kick. Had this twice here. Very good! Pad see ew - stir fried flat rice noodles. My go to thai dish. This is the best pad see ew I've had in a long time. Smoky flavor and small cut chibese broccoli. Service: I dont usually rate service for covid period reviews but these guys were very attentive and they really do deserve a mark for that. Environment: Parking seems easy enough. We have been here regularly since our first time here. Searched for a good Asian restaurant and found this fantastic place. Always feel good to come back and have our comfort food. Finally got to try Singkawang! I've driven by numerous times, and for some reason just never got a chance to stop by. Ordered the Curry Laksa & Green Curry with Chicken (latter not pictured) - SO GOOD! The Curry Laksa was very fragrant with coconut milk and a slight hint of heat. The Green Curry was rich with a green bell pepper flavor and wasn't spicy at all. If you do like a fat kick of heat/spice, the dipping sauce provided with the meal is a real banger. It looks orange like Vietnamese spring roll dipping sauce, but it kicks in really strong. read more

I pass by this place once a month and I have said multiple times that I would come in and try the food. I started off with a Cendol. Definitely too cold to drink for winter. It tastes pretty good. A bit too coconutty. I was looking for that palm sugar flavor. The wait for the food was longer than I had anticipated. The chicken satay was good. The fish cake was amazing! The KweiTiao Goreng had great flavor and was soft. The papaya salad lacked flavor even though the papaya had a great texture. The Nasi Lemak was too spicy for my palette. Lastly, the Tom Yum was delicious but way too salty! Overall, the food was pretty good. I think it's a yes to return. When I come back, I would get the fish cake and Mie Goreng. read more

I'm glad I was in the area and tried this place. Went with the Indonesian food, where I grew up with. The singkawang fried rice is legit and felt like I'm in Indo. They also put a lot of proteins inside, definitely not skimping on the meat and veggies. Soto Betawi is very flavorful with lots of goodness inside. The beef is tender, even my 10 yr old kept asking for more. Es Doger is refreshing, wish I ordered 2! The rest of the food is pretty authentic too, rujak, choi pan, and kangkung. Service is very nice as well. Definitely will go back when I'm in the area! read more

Was here for lunch special. Got here before 3 pm. I rushed in to order but the waiter(boss???) was on the phone. He seated me while he was still on the phone. So I waited for him to finished. Finally, he finished with the call and walk toward me. I pointed at the lunch special menu and he said oh no more lunch special because it passed 3 pm. Well, no shiit. You were on the phone the whole time when I tried to order the lunch special. But whatever. I was too hungry to argue. So I ordered Pad see ew. It was way too salty. Like.. are you serious.. is this serious? What is that? I was too hungry.. so I forced myself to eat this with a cup of iced water. Their Paw see ew was too salty.. I felt like I was drinking soy sauces... and it tasted like nothing but soy sauces. There was no other flavor beside saltiness. And it was $14.28 for this soy sauces noodles. Another hidden gem in the SGV. We have maybe 3 Indonesian spots in the area (this, Banana Leaf, and Medan Kitchen (which sells more of takeout style dishes you reheat at home, not a dine-in restaurant)). Banana Leaf wasn't great when I tried it, so I'm really glad to have found a good restaurant for Indo food! We got several dishes: - Nasi padang (weekend special) - Curry laksa - Kwetiau goreng SKW - Nasi goreng Singkawang All of them were 10/10; super flavorful, some spicy, some not. Fair pricing, good sized portions (these 4 dishes fed 5 of us). We'll definitely be back for the food, to try the drinks, and to maybe get some snacks from the grocery section. Came back twice already before this writing this review. Called in an ordered lunch take out. My favorite is the curry laksa with egg noodles. The soup is so flavorful, yummy! The nasi goreng (SKW fried rice) is delicious. The Choi pan was good but nothing compared to eating it there freshly steamed. Order the meatball rice noodle soup. The meatballs were good but nothing special. Tried the rujak (fruit and veggie salad with special sauce) for the first time... Pretty refreshing and tasty. I saved the extra salad sauce and made my own salad for lunch. Not shown was the El Doger drink which was refreshing on a hot day. Found out that they have happy hour 15% off Monday - Saturday 3-9pm. Will definitely come back again for the happy hour deal. Second time back we called and ordered the Curry laksa again and the mie goreng SKW. Everything was tasty and took advantage of the 15% off happy hour discount. It's located in a small plaza so plenty of parking unless they playing badminton. Service was good. Wow what a large selection of choices. There were so many dishes I finally settled on the catfish with rice. The staff here are super friendly and patient. Best overall you can come here to eat and leave with some wonderful snacks. read more
