I was looking for a new place to have lunch with my coworker and we stumbled upon this café. Serves a combination of Thai and Indonesian food specifically Kalimantan style Indonesian food. We ended up ordering beef pad se you and crab meat fried rice. The graph me a photo wise to not have a lot of crab meat and was ok tasting. The beef dish was good but it was too oily. I wish it had more portions of beef. Overall this café has indoor as well as outdoor dining. There's also a small section where you can buy Indonesian and Thai style snacks. I had lunch at Singkawang Cafe 2 days in a row and was not disappointed! I tried both the "3 Flavors Fish" and "Pad See-ew" on the lunch special menu. First came out the included soup, which had a tasty sour kick that was actually pretty addicting. The crispy fish fillet had some sweet and sour seasoning with peas, carrots, and diced red bell pepper. I tend to like the sweet, tangy flavor of typical Thai food, and this dish more than satisfied my cravings. The savory pad see-ew noodles with pork were just as delicious, and the ratio of protein, veggies, and noodles was perfect to me. Both the Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee are rich, and I think the price is fair compared to some other places. The restaurant has an aisle of Indonesian dry food/snacks that you can purchase in the back. Just keep in mind that any orders totaling under $10 will incur an extra $0.50 charge on credit cards. The dining area is spacious, clean, and relaxed, with both ethnic and Western music playing in the background. The service was friendly and attentive! As Spring Break draws to a close, the last thing I wanted to do last night was mess up the kitchen and cook a meal... so good ol' Yelp recommended Singkawang Cafe... I ordered up a few items, and the Hub de Grub delivered it to my door in 45 minutes flat. This was our first time enjoying a meal from Singkawang, and it joins a growing list of restaurants I hope to visit with my family when LACDPH can figure out how to let us enjoy a meal without plenary and mercurial oversight. But suffice to say, the "dine at home" version is great. It seems the to-go menu is missing a few items that show on the "fine-in" menu... another reason to visit in person soon. We ordered the usuals: Pad Thai, Lardna, Yellow Curry, and a new dish I'd never tried: crispy pork with Chinese Broccoli. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the portions were sized for sharing. I ordered two extra small containers of white rice, and it was enough for our family of five. One note: to go did not give options for level of spiciness; however, the containers of hot sauce were some of the hottest Indonesian stuff I've ever enjoyed! Took my head off, and that's saying something for a guy who orders "Native hot" and fancies himself El Gigante Picante. Glad to support a local restaurant, and hope you and your family do too. Since it's opening, it was our first time trying Singkawang Cafe recently. We picked up to-go for dinner as this place was about to close. The thing I like about this place is that there's plenty of parking and it's close by my house. We ordered their Curry Laksa and Pad See Ew. Nice to see a mix of Indonesia, Malaysian, Singapore and Thai food here just to name a few. When I think of Laksa, I think of Litz in Monterey Park probably because it's really the first place I've had Laksa at and there are few places I know who has Laksa on their menu. Litz is also one of the better places I've had it. The Curry Laksa is a dish I enjoy a lot probably due to the taste of the broth along with the thin noodles. At Singkawang Cafe, the soup base was pretty good. Though the rest of the dish was ok to me; the thin noodles and the shrimp. The shrimp was a bit hard for me as I prefer the soft bite. As for the Pad See Ew, it wasn't too bad. Simple and not as oily which I liked. Few ingredients were a bit different than other places but I still liked it. I pass by this place once a month and I have said multiple times that I would come in and try the food. I started off with a Cendol. Definitely too cold to drink for winter. It tastes pretty good. A bit too coconutty. I was looking for that palm sugar flavor. The wait for the food was longer than I had anticipated. The chicken satay was good. The fish cake was amazing! The KweiTiao Goreng had great flavor and was soft. The papaya salad lacked flavor even though the papaya had a great texture. The Nasi Lemak was too spicy for my palette. Lastly, the Tom Yum was delicious but way too salty! Overall, the food was pretty good. I think it's a yes to return. When I come back, I would get the fish cake and Mie Goreng. read more

Pad see ew - stir fried flat rice noodles. My go to thai dish. This is the best pad see ew I've had in a long time. Smoky flavor and small cut chibese broccoli. They also put a lot of proteins inside, definitely not skimping on the meat and veggies. Soto Betawi is very flavorful with lots of goodness inside. The beef is tender, even my 10 yr old kept asking for more. Es Doger is refreshing, wish I ordered 2! The rest of the food is pretty authentic too, rujak, choi pan, and kangkung. Another hidden gem in the SGV. We have maybe 3 Indonesian spots in the area (this, Banana Leaf, and Medan Kitchen (which sells more of takeout style dishes you reheat at home, not a dine-in restaurant)). Banana Leaf wasn't great when I tried it, so I'm really glad to have found a good restaurant for Indo food!
