The building I work in a little more than a mile down the street but offers few nearby options for breakfast and lunch if you don't want fast food. Our office was looking for catering options and we came across Sip. Stopped by to check it out and I am excited to go back. The coffee bar is not hidden but not in an overly obvious place so it was quiet and calm and easy parking. The decor is modern and the menu boards are beautiful! They offer a nice variety of sandwiches (breakfast and lunch), bars, and pastries. Ordered an ice coffee and it was good. The barista was friendly and assisted us with the catering details without getting annoyed with our many questions. I am happy I found this coffee bar. I think I will become a regular! read more

I'd say this was a great addition to NE, but apparently it's been around for a few years. I'd say I don't know how I missed it, but it's hidden in the Grain Belt complex, which isn't someplace I go since I don't have a studio or work for RSP (although I do like to gawk at the Brewhouse and pretend it's my castle). I'm glad I finally found Sip, location notwithstanding. The decor is perfect for a coffee shop, because it's somehow calming. The chair situation is not ideal - I'd like to see a couch or two. And for some reason they're WIFI hasn't worked the last two times I've been in. Fortunately, you can pick up a pretty strong signal from who-knows-where most of the time (linksys). The coffee is better than decent and they have nice teas. The sandwiches are tasty as well. I understand why it's not open past 4 - they must get 90% of their business from people who work in the Grain Belt complex - but it might become more of a neighborhood joint if they did try for evening hours. My mom and I went to Sip today at the recommendation of our banker at North East Community Bank (a great bank, btw). We walked up the stairs of a building behind the historic brewery in North East and were delightfully surprised by the chic appearance of Sip. Cool vases adorn one wall as you enter and the rest of the place, with cement floors, is sparse. I immediately wanted to know when there were spoken word and music performances there...then I saw that they closed early...OK... My mom and I order lunch, she an egg salad sandwich and I got a curry chicken wrap. My wrap was good. Too much lettuce (so, being a Yelper, I trimmed the tortilla and doubled up the chicken and had the sandwich I want!) and the curry itself was pretty good. A little more spice would be OK. Tortilla was really good. Then there was my mom's egg salad sandwich. We could have had a conversation had she stopped RAVING about the fresh multi grain bread and the yummy egg salad. I also had the blanco chili that was SUPER good. White beans that weren't over cooked and an unbeatable white chili flavor. Yum! My mom went back to get a snicker doodle and I had a cafe miel for dessert. Small espresso drinks are still $2.95, but very good. I love seeing cafe miels! And a nutella espresso? If I have time I'll go back for one of those... Great place in the corner of Mpls. Great ambiance and really good light lunch. All in all it cost us $17 for the whole kit and caboodle. It's a bit out of the way since it's down a ways from a big empty lot (due to be developed into a generic modern apartment building that will provide lots more residents within walking distance) and there's also a railroad track you have to cross, but it's certainly worth the detour *if*, and this is why the 4 stars, it's a weekday when they're open til 8PM. Saturdays though: 2PM. I live just blocks away, but by the time I'd be ready to go on a Saturday I'd have to leave in an hour to another coffee shop and Sundays they're closed all day, so without later hours Saturday this is a weekday only outing for me. The positives are the yummy baked goods made in house, of which I haven't had anything that left me disappointed. The espresso drinks are good too, as is the atmosphere which is modern, somewhat minimal, but there's enough color to make the environment feel more warm and relaxed. It has something on an Uptown feel to it, but in a good way. It's another great little spot on 13th. read more

Sip is a great modern coffee shop with delicious drinks, service and baked goods. It's the perfect place to stop off for morning coffee shop and/or breakfast item (granola, bagels, egg sandwiches, fruit, etc) or lunch for their soup and sandwich specials. Sip also has a coffee 'rewards' program type of thing where if you buy 10 drinks you get a similar drink free. I'd give 4.5 stars if available only because their hours are very (sadly) limited. They are closed Sundays and only open until 2:30 on Saturdays and 3:30 Monday-Friday. It's probably for a good reason as they are so tucked away. read more

A surprise find, off the beaten path. They make a strong and flavorful iced latte, one of the best I've had. The raspberry white chocolate scone was fresh baked and not too dry (like some scones can be). I'm somewhat of a morning regular at Sip, and I LOVE it! I usually get a cold press and a pastry of sorts. They bake them here! The bran muffins are my favorite. The staff are always friendly and helpful if I ever want to switch up my regular order to try something new. The atmosphere here is great. I'm currently being serenaded by the Drifters with "This Magic Moment" as I write this review and check work emails. The coffee shop is always clean and well taken care of. You have a nice variety of seating options around the shop - tables with chairs, couches, chairs with side tables, etc. This is a kid friendly coffee shop, and they have toys and books in a shelving unit near one of the carpeted areas. How cool is that? I've only seen kids in here once or twice, and I thought it was great that they could come along with their parents. read more

The website looked great so we gave Sip a try. Not impressed at all! The barista/counter attendant was not friendly, personable or helpful. The almond milk latte was not good at all...the milk tasted old and it hardly had any coffee flavor. The atmosphere was nothing to right home about. Furniture had crumbs on them. read more

This is my second time here, and I've been quite pleased both times! It's a cute little indie coffeeshop surrounded by warehouses, which I find very romantic. Each time I've gotten an iced caramel latte, which is my go-to drink, and have been extremely happy with it-- it tastes like they use real caramel or something other than the same Torani caramel syrup other places use. It's very close to Ruff Love Dogs NE, which is another new discovery for me, and I've decided to try to bring my dog there for a few hours once a week and then get some work done here-- it's productive for both me and my puppy! The only complaint I have, and it is minor, is the furniture seems a bit cold. The red chairs are cute and I can see that perhaps they were going for a minimalist look, in which case they succeeded, but I like my coffee shops a little homier typically. Otherwise, great place! Everything here is good. Expertly prepared espresso drinks, delicious housemade deli sandwiches and super yummy baked goods made from scratch, you simply can't go wrong. The dining area is airy and modern and perfect for a quick meeting or just hanging out. Service is always friendly and hospitable. They've got lots of gluten-free options including sandwiches made to order and gluten-free salads. Good stuff. SIP has a very contemporary feel. I think it's a great space for studying/getting work done. And I appreciate the "tucked back" location, as others put it. Service was friendly and the menu looked interesting (but all I ordered was a latte). However, I was not impressed by my latte. It was fine. But that's just it- it wasn't particularly wonderful. As good as you would find most places. But when it comes to my espresso beverages, I have a cursedly high standard. I will return to sip. I often come to Sip to study. The vibe is relaxed and cozy. The coffee is some of the best in Minneapolis, but the pastries are amazing!!!!! I have been fortunate enough to walk in when they have still warm Danish and it is very exciting! My only real complaint about SiP is its location. It's tucked away in a low-traffic area, removed from the neighborhoods I generally find myself in. That said, I'm still willing to occasionally make a special trip there, and that says a lot. I love the look and feel of the place, and while the more modern aesthetic might not be to everyone's taste, it does make SiP stand out among other coffee shops. Service is not quite as quick as at some of SiP's rivals, but the coffee is top-notch, and you can tell that they really take the time to get it right. On my most recent visit, the barista was training a new person, and it was clear to me that they take the training process seriously and make sure everyone who works there is up to the same standard. I, for one, really appreciate that, even if it takes a little longer. SiP also has great food options, based on what I've sampled. Their sweet stuff is large and rich enough to share, and they have some unique offerings like the bread pudding muffin (save some room for that one). read more

Well hidden, I stumbled upon Sip by accident. I am now a regular morning visitor. The coffee is very good, but I am a huge fan of the baked goods. All made right there, most mornings, they are still warm. The interior is nice, wish they were open on Sundays, but with their location understand why they are not. I don't usually review coffee places-because they are usually a dime a dozen-except JAVA TRAIN-that's in it's own category of awesomeness. Anyway...I had a groupon that was going to expire and a paper to write for a class I'm taking..so off I went. It's in the Northeast-in the Tap House complex. It had a nice vibe-the baristas were great-and it seemed like most of the people must work nearby because they all seemed to know one another. I got a half sandwich and soup combo for six bucks-not bad at all. The split pea was great. I had a lovely latte and brought home a sandwich and an expresso brownie for Tim who declared it the best he'd ever had (since I'm usually the resident brownie maker, I wasn't sure if I liked that!) I had some too and I agreed-they were obviously baked right there-thick and amazing. Glad I had someone to give it to! Parking's a pain-but it's kind of an interesting place. Not sure I'd seek it out, but if I was in the area again...I might try to find another brownie of theirs! read more

First time here! Staff is super friendly and the cold press is great. Their homemade almond lemon muffin is incredible. Nice chill area, modern space and very very calm. Didn't have trouble finding a spot to read on Saturday afternoon. I wish they had more outside space (they do have some chairs and tables) but their options are limited with the space. I was looking for a coffee shop close by and I found this one, I like the idea of how they have there set up with the lights and furniture, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy my almond joy drink I wish I would have been able to change it for something I would actually enjoy. what a GEM of a coffee shop! i mean that in the two ways that come to my mind: perhaps hidden and more unique as well as being fantastic. when i went after work to catch up on my reading, it was pretty empty in the shop, which i love. perhaps it could have been the impending rain, but honestly i think another factor is that this shop is tucked away (again, in my mind, only adding to its gem-ness). i enjoyed the industrial look of the place. industrial, but not cold. i cozied up on the leather couch in the back and kicked back with my book. it's nice to find coffee shops branch out with decor rather than going for the Friends Coffee Perk or Starbucks vibe. SiP achieves an awesome coffee shop vibe without being a cliche coffee shop. and the coffee's great to boot, too! ;) read more

Amazing little gem!! I personally hate overcrowded coffee shops with loud music but this place hit the spot. Got a white chocolate turtle iced mocha (medium) and a banana chocolate muffin (which was both homemade AND amazing), both for $6.47 so pretty darn affordable!! It's air conditioned, quiet bliss and very very spacey with a variety of local magazines to digest if you didn't have anything to do but want to sit. 2 couches so good for first dates or hanging with a few friends. I stumbled across SiP as I started exploring my new neighborhood (Northeast) after my move. Needing a coffee shop to work done at for the afternoon, I decided to head in and give it a shot. The decor and feel inside is modern, which I'm usually not as in to but enjoyed at SiP. My coffee was tasty and hot, but I found myself wanting when I explored their pastries. Nothing really stuck out to me so I just got a pear instead (which was delicious as well). The Wi-Fi was strong enough and the tables accommodating enough for my work.. but for whatever reason, SiP just didn't stick out in my mind. It's certainly a quality coffee shop, I'm just not sure if it has the qualities I look for. read more

Super cute shop tucked into a smattering of warehouses, but incredibly snotty baristas. I simply ordered a coffee which, would have been fantastic otherwise, seems a bit sour from their poor service. They didn't even say "have a nice day" or "thank you", so i'm more intrigued than upset. They must have had a really cruddy weekend and no amount of their tasty coffee could compensate for it. I love Sip! If you are allergic to everything like me you will greatly appreciate the fact that they have both gluten-free and lactose-free options. I am not a fan of soy, and they recently started offering almond milk as an option which is awesome. The baristas are always nice and everything is pretty reasonably priced. They also have free WiFi. I went to the SIP after a few people telling me it was a great place, as I am a NE resident. And I work very close by. So I stopped over today and got half a chicken salad wrap and a latte miel...AMAZING. My latte was some sort of cinnamon honey frothy drink and not too sweet, which I loved. And I LOVED the wrap. Predone wraps are usually a fail in my book, but this one was fresh, delicious, and healthy. Very good recipe, not sure if it is made from scratch or bought, but very very good.
