I agree with andrew, this is a pretty terrible restaurant name, but don't let that fool you. The food is both cheap and delicious. When I went here I split an appetizer and an entree and it was plenty of food for two people. We had the eggplant salad to start, which was great, and for an entree some sort of phyllo dough stuffed with spinnach. It had a hard to pronounce name, but check out the menu and I'm sure you will find it. They were both excellent and I'd reccommend this place to anyone. read more

This used to be my favorite Turkish place in the city. The Greek salad was unbelievable -- very fresh, great veggies, good chicken. But sadly, they've recently changed the menu and the quality has gone downhill. The salad is much smaller (but same price) and no longer has the beets, cabbage, artichoke and fava beans. They no longer make the hot spinach appetizer with yogurt and onions. Please bring back these dishes, and I will be a frequent customer again. read more

LOVE here! I was craving for Turkish food and raki after 2 months in NYC. We ate Sigara boregi, Cig kofte, Lahmacun, Stuffed Mussels, Muhammara, Mucver and they all taste good. We are consistently treated to the finest food and warmest service from all of the professionals who work here. The hummus, among other appetizers, is spectacular as are the entrees - with a particular focus on the fish, beef dumplings and free range chicken. Vegetarians may have a more challenging time selecting items from the entree listing, but the appetizers, soups and salads are all excellent and present a nice variety. The wine list features Turkish wines which are great and well priced. The decor is also unique and reflects the attention to detail that the is echoed in the culinary offerings. read more

Ive spent a few week in turkey and the food is spectacular...i might even claim it the true international cuisine as you find it everywhere in Europe. Sip sak is exceptional! The bread is a fluffy inside and cruchy outside sesame. We ordered a cold lentil salad which was wonderfully seasoned with olive oil and a little lemon juice. Then we had the phylo and feta..they look like egg rolls..but truly melt in your mouth. Prices are a little on the high side but If turkish is what you crave..check this place out. read more

"Cozy" is a term real estate agents use when describing a small home without sounding negative to a potential buyer. I also don't want to sound negative while describing Sip Sak because it was a great experience from start to finish with the exception of it's "cozy" layout. Great food, friendly service and reasonably priced. If you're not sure whether you'd like Turkish food or are looking to explore the proverbial culinary space around midtown this is your place. On a hot sweaty smelly NY day in NYC, it's tough to decide what to eat. Having walked too many blocks looking for something, and going into too many over priced, badly cooked restaurants in this area in the past, I wasn't expecting much from Sip Sak. What a mistake. A frantic, busy buzz lines the air, and as long as you are willing to go with this Mediterranean family fueled frantic feel, then you can have a lot of fun here. We decided to sit at the "bar" - more breakfast bar than drinking bar. Lovely and cool, the marble just what we needed having been out in the heat for so long. The waitress, running around, gave us our menus, with smiles and enthusiasm. The owner (i presume) sitting at tables, chatting to everyone, making sure they were ok. The small plates menu. Not that small, and again, perfect for a light dinner on a hot evening. The squid, with it's light lemon dressing was exquisite. I would even go as far as to say, the best I've ever had. Fried so that the tentacle (which was huge - no body) was slightly crispy on the outside with a hint of fresh lemon, the inside, moist and... well perfect. Nothing chewy about this squid! We ordered then a plate of haloumi, fried - simple and effective. The shrimp were robust in their garlic butter without being overwhelming, and meaty. We had several small plates, and all were well executed and delicious. Followed by a complimentary glass of Raki, I was a happy girl. I haven't been in winter yet, so I will revise to 5* if our cold weather experience is as good as our summer exploit. No cheap, but it won't break the bank if you stick to the small plates. read more

Despite her having accidentally eaten some meat, the staff didn't apologize and attempted to charge her for the dish until we complained. My husband and were in NYC for the weekend and on our daughter's recommendation we ate at Sip Sak. This was the best meal we had all weekend. My husband had the fish special which was whole grilled Dorado. I am not a fish lover so I did not taste his meal, but he was over the moon. Best fish prep he ever had. I had the roast lamb special - shredded roast lamb with rice, currants and just the right amount of dill. I love lamb and this was delicious. The currants added just the right touch of sweetness . We started the meal with muhammara, delicious warm bread and shared a Greek salad. Add to this a glass of a Turkish cab, and finish the meal with Turkish tea and baklava. What you have is perfection. The staff was so pleasant. Had a chance to chat with the chef. We will be back in the city in December and plan on bringing our cousins with us for another great meal. read more

The food is great. Consistently. I've eaten here a bunch of times, in groups and solo. Service is always courteous and like I said the food is great. It's a solid, reliable choice. We went here for breakfast on a saturday morning. . We asked for a breakfast menu but they said they don't have one. They suggested a Breakfast platter which had a few cheese types and olives. The platter was good to be honest. We also ordered 1 egg dish with tomatoes and an order of feta cheese rolls. We shared everything we ordered between 2 adults and a child and ended up paying $60+ dollars. That's pretty steep for breakfast. How does a restaurant serving breakfast have no breakfast menu. We found out the platter alone was $40. Never again. We could have had lunch or even dinner for that price. Now, this place is a joke between us. I love Turkish food but this one was a real rip off. read more

Excellent Turkish in modest sizes. The borek is as good as I've had in Istanbul. The lamb is always wonderful. My one complaint? Sip Sak used to be an oasis where you could eat without music blaring. Can't give them 6 stars so I'll go with 5 :))) Was there a week ago on a Sunday night :) Had so much food that I wonder how did I not explode literally. Started with their home made bread and spreads... I stuffed myself like a maniac, followed by some liver and some lamb thingie that I forgot the name of but I do remember it tasted outstanding. Then the best of all arrived THE OCTOPUS, grilled to perfection and seasoned so :) Main course was broiled lamb shank with eggplant pure that just melted in my mouth. Have no idea how but I did manage to eat dessert too :) This place will be visited frequently by me and my friends as I just fell in love with their food :) read more
