1st visit & not ever coming back. Specialty Cocktails were served with crushed ice like in a fast food place & glass was mostly ice. Maybe 4 sips for a $14 watery drink. Food was very mediocre, Filet was good, nachos weren't bad, coconut shrimp were REALLY small. The vibe is we have chandeliers in the place so we are going to charge more & have an attitude. Sips had 3 other people in when we walked in @ 4:15 , we asked for a bigger table since we had planned on ordering several plates & drinks & felt cramped in a small bar table for 2, we were told with an attitude they couldn't do it . So you just lost out on a bigger tab (Birthday celebration) , by not having a welcoming vibe & while still waiting for customers to fill bigger tables 1.5 hrs later. To top it off the waitress tells us that the other waitress is mad at her that we got seated in her section and keeps asking her if we are done, because she needs the table for her. Went to Bedarra in Crown Point the next night, always consistent, great drinks and food & ALL staff is always pleasant. read more

I can't believe I live in St John and have just discovered this place! Went 3 times in the past week. The Holy Water drink is awesome and everything we have tried on the food menu is delicious. This feels like a Chicago restaurant. Don't let the fact that it is in a strip mall fool you - it is beautifully decorated and the drinks and food are unique and so yummy. read more

Yesterday was our first time at Sip & Stones--my husband and I. We've been talking about going for a long time and finally our schedule allowed us to stop in. We arrived at about 4:20 pm and there was a fair amount of people. We sat at the bar. While the bartenders were attentive when we arrived, it didn't take long before we were totally ignored as it got busier. Both ladies were appropriately nice, they were not warm or welcoming and came across as they were doing us a favor to serve us. We had wine--rose and cab, which were fine. We had two shared plates--avocado rolls and pork tacos. Both were good. We would have had another plate and drink, but we couldn't get service--and we were at the bar where there was plenty of staff coming and going. The atmosphere is nice, but it's small and would definitely fill up fast. I'm glad we tried it and now know it's not the place for us. We do not tolerate bad service. I hope others have a better experience than we did. read more

What a fantastic dining experience!! First of all the atmosphere is lovely. Chandeliers, ambient lighting, and comfortable seating are just a few on the list. So much work went into revamping the space into a beautiful restaurant lounge. The small plates are made from scratch and are ahhhmazing!! The hand crafted cocktails are so delicious. This is a hidden gem! Downtown feels 5 min from home! Both the food and drinks are amazing!!! I would go every week if I had a babysitter!!

I would give zero stars if I could but we did have a lovely server so I did appreciate her. I was a party of four and when we got there we were told there was a wait. No problem. After seeing a 6 top open we asked a server if we could be seated there and we were told that was only for tables of 5 or 6. We continued to wait. When obviously no one was being sat at the 6 top we asked again and were told that was a management policy and no we could not be seated there. After about 45 minutes 2 four top tables opened at the same time smaller parties started coming in. Only at this time did they then decide to seat us at the same 6 top table we had been asking to sit at for the last 45 minutes. The food was mediocre at best. When I spoke to the manager she was defensive and blamed most of the issues on her staff or that they were understaffed. When I pointed out her lack of managerial professionalism I was asked to not come back. I have been in the food service industry for several years and would never handle a situation as poorly as this manager did, from beginning to end. St. John is a small place but I'm sure you can find some where better. Oh and our drinks were wrong. Go figure. read more

The meatballs were VERY spicy! The cauliflower mushy. I ordered the steak which took forever and came out cold. There was so much spicy marinade on it I couldn't eat it. The chardonnay tasted like vinegar and left a rotten taste in my mouth. I won't be returning. read more
