Wow. This place surprised me! You know when you walk in a place and it isn't fancy, but you know the food will be good? This is that kind of place. I got the spicy friend chicken and rice! Sooooo good Partner got the pork chop also amazing. We took turns stealing from each others plates. Will def stop in again when in the areas

Food was delicious! I loved the samosas and curry. The customer service was great, and the staff was so sweet. My friends loved it. I HIGHLY recommend the popcorn chicken

I absolutely love this place. It is a gem. I found it one rainy day looking for some close-by Asian cuisine and let me tell you this place does not disappoint. The menu is small so you know they do what they do good or shall I say great. I love the sisters that own the spot. They are very kind, attentive and even let me bring my bicycle in so I didn't have to watch it outside. The space is small, but it has a familiar feeling. You feel as though you are about to eat someone's families best dish. This is the yellow curry. It is some of the best curry I've had, especially so close to home. This time I got the passionfruit green tea and after the last few hot days we've had, so refreshing. I've also ordered the rose lychee green tea, and it's amazing! I recommend and will definitely be back!

    Beef Noodle Soup

The Beef Noodle Soup was great! Very homey taste as others have stated! I enjoyed it. Also tried the Chicken and Rice and wow the chicken was well seasoned and delicious. Joining the rice was a side of pickled veggies. Also great! Lastly I got an order of their veggie spring rolls. Very tasty and the sweet dipping sauce being a highlight. Looking forward to coming back! Affordable meals with great portions :) Service was great as well.

An extremely LA experience. The oldest Japanese restaurant in Boyle Heights and an official…read morelandmark in Los Angeles. It is the definition of "Mom and Pop" with a tiny staff and only 4 tables and some seats at a counter. We went on a Sat around 2pm and the wait was only 10-15 min for a table. People tend to be respectful and eat and move on knowing others are waiting. We ordered green tea, and my wife got Oolong tea, then complimentary miso soups came out that were exceptional. This is said too much, but you could, you could taste the love in the food. It was like someone was cooking for us in their house. My wife got a bowl that had the most amazingly cooked bok choy in it along with the salmon. I didn't know I would be getting excited about bok choy, but it was that good. I had the salmon teriyaki combo that included a salad and spicy tuna roll. I think I audibly moaned when I ate the spicy tuna roll. Just a different level of flavor and freshness. The only thing that sucked was there is no restroom for customers. We needed to go down to the metro station 1.5 blocks away and use the public toilet, which was free, clean and easy to use, but still, it was a big hassle when we just wanted to stay there and enjoy our food. I mean and we were drinking tea and eating soup, so you can imagine. Come and enjoy this amazing hidden local gem, just use the restroom before you get here.

It's a small mom-and-pop restaurant that feels like stepping back in time in the best way possible... The restaurant itself is tiny, maybe 3 booths and a few high-top seats, fitting around 15 to 20 people at most, so be prepared to wait if you come during peak hours. We visited on a Saturday evening around 5:30 PM. We waited about 15-20 minutes for a table, but it was absolutely worth it.. The place is run by what I believe are a brother and sister... The brother is the chef, and the sister runs the front of the house.. She seats guests, waits tables, and makes you feel immediately welcome.. She's incredibly friendly, bubbly, and helpful, offering great recommendations and explaining the most popular dishes... We ended up ordering a couple of their combination plates.. One was the teriyaki beef with a spicy tuna roll, which came with miso soup, salad, and rice. The other was the teriyaki chicken with assorted sashimi, also served with soup, salad, and rice. Everything was phenomenal... The sashimi was fresh and cut thick, and the portions were generous for the price... Honestly, it's one of the best values you'll find for Japanese food in the area.. Every bite tasted incredibly fresh and homemade.. The whole experience honestly felt like sitting down in someone's home in Japan and enjoying a meal they just cooked for you... Another cool detail is all the memorabilia and photos on the walls showing the history of the restaurant and the neighborhood... It adds so much character and reminds you that this place has been part of the community for decades. If you don't want to wait, you can always call ahead and order for pickup, but we wanted the full experience of dining in, and I'm glad we did.. This spot absolutely lives up to the hype !!! Five out of five stars !!. Highly recommend checking it out !!!

The spicy tuna crispy rice have a good amount of spicy tuna on top & I loved how crispy they made the rice underneath. The Kodo trio comes with uni, toro, & wagyu and the Toro sampler comes with o-toro, chu-toro, akami. All of these handrolls were phenomenal & just left you wanting more. The Wagyu katsu you cook on a hot stone at the table which I liked as an interactive dish. The Wagyu cheeseburger was dripping with juice but still had those crunchy edges. The Uni pasta was beautiful & delicious. The Chimichurri prawns I could eat multiple plates of- the shell comes sliced down the middle so you just have to peel it off. For dessert we ordered the Kodo basque cheesecake & Miso chocolate torte. I love a basque cheesecake & the sesame crumble added great texture. The miso chocolate torte made me wish I ordered my own. Dropped by on a Saturday evening with my brother, no reservation. I was worried we'd be stuck waiting for an hour or more for a table but we were seated in less than ten minutes, despite the fact that it was a full house. The menu has an interesting assortment of traditional Italian pastas, Japanese classics, and Japanese-Italian fusion dishes. It's not a huge menu, but is just the right size to have a number of dishes I wish I could've tried all at once. I went with the bacon and mushrooms Japanese style sauce, which was a dashi and soy sauce base with bacon and mushrooms and a garnish of grated radish and nori. This was incredibly delicious, unique, and a true blend of Japanese and Italian flavors. The bacon was phenomenal and there was a generous amount on the plate. My brother got the arrabbiata. He asked them to not make it very spicy, but it still had a good kick (I definitely wouldn't have asked for it to be milder, but to each their own). The flavors were rich. And in both dishes, the pasta was cooked perfectly. Dinner comes with a complimentary salad and rolls. Our food came out fast, and our server was friendly. The owners were really nice, welcoming people. I loved the vibe of this place, with its dim lighting and quiet, laidback atmosphere. At the end of the meal he apologized for forgetting the items and asked if we wanted a Togo bag for our meals which as you guessed he forgot again. I'm sorry but the restaurant was at like 20% capacity. Also they messed up on part of our order. All and all we will not be returning again Also the gratin we ordered was very hard to eat.

Had already left when we noticed it. Also told us cake fee was $10, but ended up charging us $20. Food-wise, very hit or miss. The unadon, hamburger steak, and curry udon were all really good, but the yakitori skewers tended to be disappointing. The Tsukune was dry, the Negima was quite bland. The Miso Black Cod was also quite overdone, became quite rubbery when served and also was cold. Overall, I would not come back again, or recommend it. The menu now leans much more toward fine dining, and the prices definitely reflect that. As someone who's more of a casual diner and really enjoyed the previous menu, this new direction just wasn't for me. The staff were very kind and took the time to explain all the changes, which I appreciated. However, we ordered about six dishes and were surprised at how small the portions were. On top of that, most of the items were unfortunately pretty bland. Sadly, I won't be returning, and I really miss the old menu.
