The pick-up and drop-off process was straightforward and easy. However, I am giving a one-star rating because I was charged a $600 cleaning/smoking fee, even though I do not smoke. In my experience, whenever I come to Denver, many rental cars smell like smoke, which might explain why I dismissed the smell at first. But in the future, I will make sure to check for any odors in the car and report them before leaving the lot. Additionally, I will take a quick video of the car's exterior and interior as a precaution. I contacted several departments at Sixt and successfully disputed the charges, getting them removed. When I turned in the vehicle the employee stated I scratched the bumper. There were hair thin scratches on the front right bumper which could only be seen if a light was shined on it. I did not see those scratches when I did my walk around because I didn't shine a light across the surface. Now they are asking me to pay $722 to repair something no one would repair on their own personal car. I never drove into anything. It would appear a bush brushed against the bumper, which I never did. The employee even stated the scratches could have come from road debris. I will never rent from this company again. read more

Returned a vehicle with a full tank of gas on Dec 10. I refuelled at the gas station located a mile from the return location. The Return receipt showed fuel 8/8. I received an invoice on Dec 15 and was debited $26 for refueling + tax. This amount of gas can literally not fit in that vehicle considering it was full. I tried disputing the charge with my credit card company and they asked me to settle this with Sixt. I called Sixt customer service and could not get anyone on the line after being on hold for over 25min. I am more than disappointed and will not be renting from sixt again. MY CAR RENTAL WAS NOT CLEANED BETWEEN RENTERS!!!!! NOT EVEN A QUICK ONCE OVER. Fries are under my seat, debris scattered on all floors, debris on the seats...A USED plastic, crumpled GLOVE is seen laying on the bench in the back seat, in plain site. Under normal circumstances, one would agree....completely unacceptable. Imagine checking into a hotel room that has trash, an unmade bed, and you are unable to talk to anyone at the hotel about it. Now add the STATE MANDATED restrictions put in place, allowing companies to operate during the pandemic under strict codes of conduct. To protect the spread of the virus. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER 888-749-8227 WOULD NOT CONNECT. It would produce a busy signal, no matter the time of day. When the the company closed for the day, the customer service number suddenly worked, instead of a busy signal, an immediate message to the effect of please call us during normal business hours. HERE is the TIMELINE of the number attempts I have made so far, to try and speak with anyone at SIXT, locally and nationally. 1. July 30th 6:48 pm MDT - exactly 30 minutes after signing for my rental at 6:18 pm. I called customer sixt customer service number 888-749-8227 and was met with a busy signal (though the hours are 4AM - 2AM Eastern Time we are suppose to be able to contact a representative). I call again, and again. By 6:53 pm I have received a busy signal 3 times, I confirm I have the correct number, and I do. I am concerned as this is within the FIRST HOUR of a 4 DAY RENTAL - of which I am paying $626.26 for a Hyundai Tucson Utl 2. July 30th - 7:04 pm, I pull off the road and record a time stamped video on my iphone xs 23 seconds long, to document the current state of the interior of the vehicle. The video attached shows my sixt car rental, I have officially driven off the Denver International lot 20-25 minutes earlier. Of which I expected in a parking garage with NO LIGHTS, after flying into town because my dad died. The video, does a quick scan of the car, showing, without documenting the interior in extensive detail....Fries are under my seat, debris scattered on all floors, debris on the seats. And I attach a file, as it is an option, to show why I need to speak with them as soon as possible and click send. No email, is sent to my own email, indicating customer service has even been contacted. 5. July 31st - 11:38am MDT - I take an additional step, insuring my message gets through, I google the customer service email which is CUSTOMERSERVICE-USA@SIXT.COM the message emailed, reiterated, I have contacted you via your websites directive for concerns, complains etc. Which included a video. etc I receive a response from sixt at 7:47 pm MDT 8 HOURS LATER which said "If you would like to speak with a live agent we invite you to contact us at +1-888-749-8227. Shortly you will be connected to the next available agent that will be happy to assist you". 6. After receiving an email directing me to contact the number that only produces a. busy signal. I CALL AGAIN at 11:39 pm - to my surprise, I am not met with a busy signal but an automated message asking me to call back during business hours. I AM HALF WAY THROUGH MY RENTAL, I HAVE BEEN CONTACTING CUSTOMER SERVICE 30 MINUTES INTO MY 4 DAY RENTAL, AND I STILL HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SPEAK WITH ANYONE. My experience with SIXT was horrible. The clerk at the Atlanta airport insisted on upgrading the vehicle. After declining multiple times he said "I got you" and went ahead and upgraded the car for "free". What I didn't realize is that he switched the insurance coverage to the maximum level cost double the car rental fee. When I contacted their customer service department I was quickly told there was nothing they could do. I am a traveling professional who has rented thousands of cars over the years, I have never had an experience this bad. Do not be fooled by their "impressive" line up of vehicles. They are trying to make me pay for damage to a tire that I didn't do. When they sent me the picture of the damage, you can't even see the scratch they are talking about. They are also charging me for a "leaky tire". We had the vehicle for 48 hours and no damage occurred. If they end up charging me for this (none of which I did), I'll never rent from them again. read more

When my wife and I arrived at the Denver airport location for Sixt, we were told that "by accident" our car was at another location. We were told that it rarely happens, though it had happened four times already that day. We had to pay an Uber $100 to take us to the Cherry Creek Mall Office. The airport staff assured us that, although the mall location usually closes at 6 PM, they would stay open until 6:30 to accommodate us. My wife and I got there at 6:15 and they were shut down completely. Tarps over their desk, etc. It then cost us another 40 bucks to Uber to our hotel. To say we were livid is so inadequate. I've rented from SIXT multiple times because I enjoy the class of vehicles offered. The customer service is not the same caliber as the cars. BEWARE they do not inspect the vehicle before you take the car, you have to do it yourself. This was not a problem until my last rental. The Volvo they gave me had a scratch on the bumper which I noticed, but did not think it was a big deal. I did not take a photos. This was the time they decide to nail a repeat customer with a $771 charge. I call to dispute this and with no photo, you have no options but to pay. I was literally told by the agent that the company is so big because they are global that my business doesn't matter. Well, I work for a global brand too and I will tell every single person I interact with at my company to rent from another company. This one is just counting on their customers to not take photos. Had a very good experience renting from Sixt during our recent trip to Colorado. I can now appreciate why this company is so much more expensive than the other rental agencies at the airport: the service at the check-in desk went smoothly and the CSR was both knowledgeable and professional. The pricing was upfront and I wasn't mislead in any way. I didn't realize the vehicle I had reserved would encounter difficulties traveling up and down the mountain passes that were on my itinerary, and I truly appreciate that the agent cared enough to inquire about my plans and help me choose a more appropriate vehicle. The car itself was in pristine condition, well-maintained, and drove beautifully. I do wish, however, that more time had been taken to show me how some of the interior functions worked because I was totally lost on some things. The overall ease of rental and return was great, and every staff encounter was a positive one.. I needed to separate my review for a major reason. To start off, getting the vehicle was pretty straight forward. However, when I inspected the vehicle, prior to leaving, the rear tires were bald. That may be fine for some people, however, when driving in snow, bald tires are not beneficial. I walked back into the building and spoke with the representative about this issue....no questions asked, got me a comparable car in a couple minutes--went out, beautiful Arcadia, with 762 miles on it, new tires and just a great ride. Now, this is where my rating drops and it is a significant issue. I returned the vehicle and was informed I would get an email verifying the drop off, which would also include the price and the verification of a return of deposit. I did not receive an email to verify the drop off nor the return of deposit. When I called and spoke to some CSR--his statement is "We do not send email for verification as we have it in our computers". THIS IS A PROBLEM. How does the consumer know, they are not screwing with the vehicle or that the vehicle was returned? Other than me dropping it off, there is no verification of the action. The company NEEDS to provide verification of drop off and deposit return. Otherwise they can do anything they want and you, the consumer has the potential to be truly screwed. read more

I rented previously from Sixt in Germany, their base, many years ago and was pleased with them. My plan was to stay in downtown Denver, and then rent a car at nearby Union Station, for a trip to the mountains and return it there (taking the excellent RTD A-Line train to and from the airport). The station is a block away from the Sixt office). That office on 17th Street has only two service desks. I had a car reserved well in advance (via a travel web site). There was no waiting. The person at the desk first tried to offer me a more expensive car, for extra payment, which I declined. Then he told me the car I had reserved was not available. So, the upgraded car was substituted at no extra charge. This happens everywhere. He then tried to sell me CDW and I told him that my credit card covered that. He tried anyway. Then he told me that I needed to pay extra for potential roadside assistance. He said if I didn't take it, I would have to find my own tow truck. I told him that no other company expects extra payment if the car has problems, and I have no idea how one finds a tow truck for a rental and where does it go? Luckily, he couldn't figure out how to locate the car in the system and the site manager was summoned. She was terrific. She made it clear that they have a no-charge hot line for roadside service. She helped us with picking up the car at the nearby parking garage. The person at the garage answered all my questions about how to drive with the unconventional shifter and various adjustments. There was no owner's manual and no legal registration. I looked in the places where they usually hide. The car was clean and a pleasure to drive. The return to the same garage was easy and very informal. This contrasts with airport locations that require buses and the usual crowds and mass return centers. The manager at the Sixt Union Station office told me that the person at the desk was a trainee and she apologized for his mistakes. I appreciate the extra effort that was needed. Of course, I don't know what happened to the trainee and I assume he learned from his mistakes. Perhaps he received more instruction. His boss is a very personable type who should be a role model. I'd rent from Sixt at Union Station again without hesitation. On the road, after an hour, I noticed a warning about connection to an emergency line. We called the office. The trainee answered. He told us to bring the car in because of the problem. We were an hour away. So, we asked to speak with the manager. She told us that the warning was about connecting a cell phone and to ignore it. Worst rental company I have ever used. After renting a car from them for a month they refused to extend my rental by 6 days when my job got extended. Now I have to drive 3.5 hours back to Denver to "re-rent" the same vehicle then drive 3.5 hours back to my project. They refused to budge, refused to help, wouldn't send new contract electronically, nothing, no help, just f-you and have a nice day. Also, if you ever need to call customer service, expect to wait at least 15 minutes and listen to the most obnoxious man repeat "Sixt" every 12 seconds until they answer. If I could give 0 starts to this company I would! We rented a car with them In September of 2022. When we arrived at the airport and went to grab the car the car was not ready even though it says it's self check in, we waited 3 Hours in line because they didn't have enough people working that night. When we finally got the vehicle we went to our airbnb. For our surprise, when we woke up at 5 am to pick the rest of our friends from the airport the front side of the driver tire was on the floor, we had to call them to help us with the tires, they gave us another car the same day after a couple of hours. However, after 2 year of that trip they called me saying I owe them $130 for changing the tires of the car that was clearly already with bad tires on it when we rented. I just got a email saying that they put this amount in collections. This company is absolutely nightmare do no rent with them. I rented so many cars including on Turo, enterprise and Hertz and never had problems or issues with their vehicles. read more

When I went to pick it up, though, I found that the hatchback had no cargo cover, and when I called about it, they didn't have any other cars. Originally I had been renting from them for a little over 8 months. My very first rental I paid $485 for a SUV a week so a little over $1500. When I originally booked I booked for a car. Technically because they didn't have any I was supposed to get a FREE upgrade (which I didn't know). So I kept renting because I needed a vehicle. For the next several months the experience was okay. It was this last month that changed my mind. I went down to redo my contract (which I do every 28 days). The contracts last 28 days and that's for the same vehicle at the same rate. Well after I did my last contract, a week later someone closed my contract opened up an entirely new contract for 23 days at one time (I pay by the week) and tried to charge my card over $1000 without my authorization. I drove down to the buckhead location in ga to get this fix. They told me they don't know who closed my contract but they would work to fix it and try to keep my same rate at $265 for the week. They got busy and told me to go get food etc and once they get everybody in and out they will handle it. Instead of getting food I left to get gas instead because I was switching vehicles. Sixt charges $11.99 PER GALLON if you don't bring it back full. Gas in that area WAS only $4.65 at the time. I get back and it's finally my turn. Lisa tells me oh we have to charge you as a walkup and then proceeds to try to tell me it will be $1000 for A WEEK for a Mazda and I was paying less than that for a full size VW Atlas. The manager was not any help. Lisa then tried to charge for having the vehicle for one day when I never went anywhere but to get gas and then tried to say the gas wasn't full. I literally had to curse them out behind that. What they don't understand is I've made a few friends at that location because I was renting for so long. And I text them about the situation and they checked the rates for me the NEXT DAY. The rates were no where near the price Lisa gave me. It's crazy to me how they treat the long term customers who spend well over $1000 a month. I bring the rentals back and time, gas full, and cleaned. read more

After informing staff that I was a young women, it quickly became obvious that they felt they could take advantage of me and started charging me for any charge they could find yet could not justify. I too have similar experiences as many have outlined as it relates to damages not caused by my family while renting a car from Sixt. When we picked up the car my son noticed several scratches on the car and one ding on the rear corner. Because it was already a hassle to get the keys to the car, I simply took pictures of some of the larger scratches while actually telling my son that the ding was smaller than a quarter and wasn't something we should be concerned about given the many prior car rental experiences. As a frequent business traveler and renter of cars, I have definitely seen much worse damage that is usually overlooked or ignored. That said, when we arrived the morning our car was due the check-in people were too busy really to do a look over of the car and provide us a receipt. Fast forward a month, I wake up to a webform from Sixt blaming me for the ding and saying I needed to provide an immediate response on either taking responsibility for the damage or providing necessary evidence. I stated my case about the concerns with check-in, sent them pictures that I took of the car prior to leaving the facility, and also complained about overall return process and inability to handle any issues when we returned the car. I received the claim today saying I was responsible for $550 in repairs including a diminished value claim (for a car that had 30k miles on it)...sigh! I promptly paid them -- not because I was responsible -- but because I'm done with Sixt. I will never rent a car from them again. Quite foolish when you think of it -- penny-wise pound-foolish. You got your $550 but lost a customer forever. read more

AVOID the Hispanic guy with glasses! He very blatantly tried to scam us because he is a crook. We had a reservation for a car at 11am but our flight arrived a little early. When we went there the guy told us he would only be able to put us in a car at that moment if we pay an extra $35 a day for collision insurance. We told him we weren't going to do that so he said we had to wait. 10 minutes later we went to one of the other counters where the guy named Anthony basically, just immediately put us in a rental car, Told us not to pay the extra $35 a day because it wasn't worth it for collision insurance, even waived the young driver fee for the additional driver, and put us in a better car free of charge. read more

If you noticed already, Sixt is NOT where you want to rent from. Just pay a few more dollars and go with a name brand like Hertz or Avis. I was trying to save a buck in Denver on a 3 day rental and will never rent from them again, and have spent the morning posting my review and experience all over the Internet. I reserved and paid (thru BookIt) for a Toyota RAV 4 several day ahead of time. I arrived at their center and she processed all my paperwork, wanted an additional $200 authorization, which I didn't want to give, but did. I haven't receive the credit yet. Then at the very end (25mins after arriving), the counter lady said my Toyota Cross was in space 177.... I ordered a RAV 4! Yes it did say: "Or Similar", but a RAV 4 is a 5 seat mid-size SUV and the Cross is a compact, 4 seater. It's four inches shorter and 700 lbs lighter. Also, it was brand new with no installed hubcaps and the floor and cargo mats were in the trunk. I had to install all this in the rain. Not happy at all This is clearly a ploy, maybe used by other rental agencies, to add "or Similar" to the listing and then put you in a down graded vehicle. In my book I was deceived and cheated out of what I paid for. They are not truthful in their advertising and we all need to start calling them out on it! read more

Nobody picks up the phone and emails remain unanswered. Happy to be available to sell you upgrades, though. (Sorry, Denver, this is really a SiXT corporate issue) This is a followup to earlier review posts regarding a reservation with SiXT thru Travelocity in Denver that was cancelled back in July due to the widespread closure of air traffic. Our carrier cancelled our flight less than 12 hours before scheduled takeoff; we could not give SiXT 24 hours notice to cancel our car; they docked us $200 for that. For comparison, we cancelled another reservation with Hertz on the same aborted trip, and they waived the late fee on the first call (since we had no control over United, or the appalling weather). Since then... many chat messages with SiXT & Travelocity, and the net is that Travelocity says they act as SiXT's agent and thus must follow SiXT policies, and EVEN THOUGH THE REST OF THE REFUND WOULD COME FROM TRAVELOCITY, SiXT will not approve a waiver of policy. So, Travelocity says it cannot release the $200 penalty... and it is interesting that, when I chat with the SiXT representatives, I'm told that this is entirely a Travelocity issue. Here's SiXT to me, as of 27 Sept: "We are very sorry to hear that Expedia continues to send you back to us. We can see how this can be frustrating. Please be aware that in this case your reservation was booked under a wholesale rate. What this means is that they pre-purchased a group of reservations from us and then re-sold each reservation later at a price that they determined. We would be unable to assist you with the refund as we do not in fact have your funds." CAVEAT EMPTOR read more

I have rented cars from other companies and Alissa at Sixt did a great job! I rented and prepaid online, prior to picking up the car. I chose a mid-size SUV since we were driving to the mountains. The car itself was very clean, well taken care of, and drove extremely well. We ended up getting a Mercedes GLA with All-Wheel drive and it was so fun to drive on 70 in the mountains. Alissa did a great job checking me in, getting me setup with the right car, and into the car so I could start my adventure for the week. She was very professional and pleasant to work with; she deserves a raise of anyone on the Sixt team is reading this. When I returned the car, it was just as easy as check-in. Great experience renting a car in an emergency while staying in Denver. My rental car was held hostage by the local parking garage on a Friday evening through Monday morning - without any prior notification on the entrance - when I parked it Friday afternoon. All so the garage could be cleaned over the weekend of Covid (we all know cars are carriers). Alissa at the Sixt desk was SO nice and professional, the rental process was so much easier to go through than with any of the big names. I rented a car from Sixt, through Expedia. Expedia reserved car at wrong location. Despite having cars available at the correct location, near the airport, they would not honor the rental unless they charged us the newly inflated holiday rates. The wrong location was closed so we had no way to pick up the car. They were not helpful at all. We were stranded in Denver with no rental car. Sixt blamed Expedia. But they could have supplied a car. We never picked up a car from them and canceled when we found out it was the wrong location. They refused to refund. Expedia also refused refund. I would not recommend either Sixt or Expedia. Horrible customer service, they said this happens 3-4 times a week. Sounds like they won't fix it because they are profiting. read more
