Don't. SIXT is not a good car rental company. We travel regularly and in particular to JFK often. Enterprise is our go-to: great inventory, prices and customer service. I tried SIXT because it advertised a reduce rate during a recent trip. Check in was bad. The SIXT team was standing around, no one addressed me as I approached to the empty counter. The clerk, who was friendly, in formed me that my model vehicle was not available and then proceeds to up sell me for over 20 minutes. I would have canceled the reservation and walked over to a competitor but SIXT's cancellation policy is unbending. I ended up paying being unchanged to the extent that the "deal" they advertised was moot. Pick up was bad. Unlike its competitors, SIXT hads you a set of keys and lets you know what spot number the vehicle is in. No one escorts you to the exit or outside. Of course, in my case, the spot number was wrong. So we had to press the key fob over and over until we found out vehicle. Also, because staff did not escort us to the vehicle, we had to be take pictures to preserve a record of the condition of the car because SIXT likes to upsell. I am sure they would be happy to add to the invoice at the end of the rental agreement. The vehicle was in good shape and clean. Unfortunately that does not set SIXT above its market competitors. The return was bad. The lot is not clearly marked and again, no staff greeted us. We parked the vehicle and stood around until a staff member rolled up in a vehicle, rolled down the passenger window and said told us to just drop the keys in our vehicle and head out. No verification of return, fuel levels, nothing. As one would expect, when got back to LA I received an email from SIXT that according to their records I failed to return the vehicle and that I needed to extend my contract. (I had dropped off the vehicle earlier than my reservation required). I had to call SIXT customer service line to be sure that they corrected their records and would not charge me even more money. Bottom line: car rental services are well done by so many brands it has been decades since I had even a so-so experience. Flew in from Cali, went through Priceline paid like $400+ for a 2 day rental WHATEVER it's NY. So i get there, and they tell me I'm too big for the premium car that happens to be a coupe, all they had were BMWs, whatever asked for a sedan, and then I'm told it's an extra $120 up charge for that, car literally had just came in and now it's mine out...... paid for tolls and stuff too and then they come with the insurance add on questions, ol girl literally tells me to get it because of the stuff she's seen them pull on tryna charge for damages (thank you for that ) added that on. Also saw these reviews so i knew the jig was coming. Dropped the car off at 6am it's now 7pm and i get a damage report about some scratch in the back. I rent cars often, VERY often, first time ever with sixt will definitely be my last also. I filled up right before dropping the car off at the BP right next to the airport and they have the NERVE to say the fuel was 7/8 and charge $15/gal for gas when it's $3 down the street. Long story long, i will never go through sixt again. First time and definitely the last, i paid for the damage loss waiver so they wouldn't be able to bother me about some cosmetic scratch scam. I refused their toll programs as I have my own E-Z pass adapter. I also registered on the official website for tolls in NY called tolls by mail and put that from 9th of January until 18th of January any toll that goes to the plate will hit my credit card. A month later Sixt is sending me mails and trying to charge my credit card even thought all tolls were already paid. After getting an email from sixth I contacted NY tolls and they confirmed all tolls were paid. So what is Sixth After? I called customer service and I was a transferred 4 times between customer service and tolls department of Sixt. At the end they hang up. I called second time and told the guy I already paid for all tolls and registered with NY tolls by mail that all tolls hit my credit card and my own EZ pass. Sixt- the guy in their tolls department told me " Donald Trump introduced toll in NY so you have to pay now". Tolls were in NY even before Donald Trump. Imagine if hat kind of people you are dealing with. I don't recommend you renting a car from this place unless you want them to keep charging your credit card whatever fees they want. Stay away. Also I had pre booked online a week before pick up and after I arrived they tried to charge me more money saying that was last weeks price. Can you even imagine? This place is a scam. Worst company to rent from. I wanted to mix it up from my normal enterprise rental but when I arrived at this location I was informed that I wasn't able to take a car. I was blocked from taking anything and was stranded at the airport. Manager on staff said he couldn't help. I.picked up the car after a very frustrating day of flight delays....Just about 6 hours later than I was expecting to. KING was the SIXT employee who turned our whole night around. He was so polite, friendly, honest and went above and beyond for us. He truly gave us the royal treatment. On the return as I was dropping off the car, King was once again the employee who helped me and he was once again so nice, informative, friendly, and amazing to work with. I 100% would recommend SIXT at JFK to anyone looking for a car. I should slap mention I flew to NY on Labor Day Weekend. Many other car rental places had overbooked amd ran out of cars. SIXT stocked up for the weekend so they were definitely who many travelers were relying on last minute. We were all do happy with the car quality- only 9000 miles !! STAY FAR WAY FROM SIXT!!!! This is the most incompetent car rental agency I have worked with, and I will never do business with them ever again. I've only rented from them once, and that is far from enough for me. If you want some peace of mind and not have to worry about a car rental agency screwing you over, I would go with other agencies as they have been the worse. I initially rented a vehicle for 1 day, as I went to the airport to pick up the said vehicle I was told that the type of vehicle I had reserved was unavailable but they had other options but I would have to pay a higher price for the new vehicle. Relentlessly I decided to agree as I had no other option. I returned the vehicle the next day as per my rental agreement prior to the time I had gotten the vehicle. The representative scanned a barcode on my phone and told me, everything was good and that I could leave. And so I did, and ordered a ride share app. A couple days later I open my bank statement and SIXT charged me over $1,100 more for this rental. I find out that SIXT charged me 3 additional days for the car. I call customer service and they told me to send them my plane ticket and I did. Few days later, I check their website and my invoice was adjusted but still incorrect and they still charged my 1 additional day. I call customer service again, and this time I send them my ride share invoice showing that I returned the car on time on Nov. 18. Still waiting for them to fix this issue. read more

BEWARE. The cars tend to have scratches and dents which is not bad but it forces you to buy the full coverage. Otherwise they charge you there's no attendant if you drop off the car early in the morning so you're stuck after the fact arguing with him did the dent happen before or during a rental highly advise taking lots of photos before hand, but be aware they're going to give you a hard time to meet or watt just lot safer to go with another agency. I rented from Sixt at Ft lauderdale airport. I had a reservation, and the pickup up was smooth and easy, the car was fine...However after the return it was a horror...an email letter for damages for $1431.26...that I didn't have anything to do with. The letter gave me 10 days to pay. It was SCAM...after I reviewed the pictures closely that they sent to me, it showed the damage was made prior to me accepting the car. I actually had a smooth and easy car rental process as opposed to the other reviews. Pick up & drop off both super easy. I paid extra for like the toll pass thingy which is 50$, although I definitely did NOT go through that much worth of tolls, but it's not their fault I just didn't want to worry about them. Car was nice too, not the one I selected online but it's okay I actually really enjoyed the car I got. The desk lady also kept the same price I paid for online even though it was a different car. After over an hour wait and I can't stand due to the spine fusion. They gave me car that smells like weed. They're supposed to clean cars before they give it to customers. If they had a star for terrible I'd use it. Everything went wrong. The people working the desk for pick-up couldn't "find" the car. Several folks had to go out in the lot to look for it. When they couldn't find it they switched me to a different car. Waited, waited, waited and no one brought the alternate vehicle. Had to complaint to several different employees. After 40 minutes finally got a car. Then the next morning I start the car and 5 (!) different warning alerts are on the dash, all saying "see your dealer," so was afraid to drive the car. Called customer service and they said that the car was safe to drive. I certainly didn't feel safe. They said I could exchange the car by going all the way back to JFK (I was in CT so meant a 3 hours away round trip) or could swap it out in their office in West Haven, CT (which was only 1 hour away round trip). The next morning while driving to West Haven the car bucked back and forth while at red lights. Super scary. Made it to West Haven without a break down (whew!) then the person working the desk said no, they don't do car exchanges there! I was due in Manhattan that morning . Fortunately a supervisor finally arrived and found a corporate car on the lot and was able to the exchange but by that time it was already past 11 am...GRRRR. The only saving grace was Jovel who handled our rental. I called the customer service number hours before renting the car what we needed to bring, as well as if we could rent without a credit card. He told us we needed our licenses and the card on file with proof of living at that address I.e. a utility bill. He was given our pick up location and we told him that we lived near the area. Come to find out after driving an hour through traffic that you can't rent with a debit card because it is not a local branch. Jovel was the only person who cared and explained that their customer service misinformed us. Get it together Sixt. If you ever have the misfortune to deal with this company, be sure to record everything. If Sixt communicate verbally, ask to have it in writing or record the agent talking. Either through incompetence or negligence Sixt can not be trusted to stand by their verbal guarantees. My family and I rented a car from Sixt at JFK on 1st June 2023. Car was fine. However, we phoned on the morning of Tuesday 6th June to ask if we could drop the car off at the Manhattan branch. They said no problem. We have now been incorrectly charged for dropping the car to the wrong location, despite the fact that we were informed by Sixt that we could do this. We emailed Sixt a screen shot of the cell phone call log to verify this. We arrived around 2.30pm that afternoon and dropped off the keys to reception. We were so careful with their car. Our kids weren't allowed to eat in it. They sat on their booster car seats in the Sixt reception and chowed down some Pringles while the drop off was processed. This all occurred before the deadline. We asked if there was anything we needed to sign. No all good was the response. However, we have since been charged for an additional day. Saturday 10th June we realize we've been charged $841.90 for dropping off at wrong location and late fee!! $841.90!!! The car park ticket was handed into the Sixt reception. Sixt has the evidence of this occurring both through CCTV footage and the physical ticket. Since then the interactions with Sixt have been incredibly frustrating. They claim to have no record of us coming into their reception in Manhattan. Sixt has no record of our phone conversation that morning Sixt have since had the audacity to offer us a voucher for $50 as a good will gesture. We do not want their voucher, we want our $841.90 back. We now have no other option but to pursue this through a third party. Don't do it to yourself. Save yourself headache and stress. To help a friend, I attempted to rent a car 3.11.25, then probably did one a couple years ago. A couple years ago, several extra unexpected charges were taken from my account. I had to formally complain and ask for an itemized receipt. Then I was appropriately reimbursed. Yesterday, I applied online, went to collect the car and was told that I needed TWO utility bills, not a paper copy, specifically lease agreement, utility or something else. I personally do not have debt or bills to provide, I was denied showing them my phone bill, wasn't accepted, my recent car ticket bill was denied, no real manager was present and I was denied the ability to rent a car. I was told it was in the fine print (LIES). Unlike many others, I read, I never read such a thing, why would I continue to go or even give my bank information over the website? My money was withdrawn and I cannot rent a car. The small print did say, no returns. While in the location, I was told that they cancelled my order and returned my money, but nothing of the sort has happened up to now. This place has gotten worse and are criminals for how they operate. It is company policy, I'm told and no bending unless they lose their jobs. I told them you need to advocate for your customers or continue to get cursed out. I think I have to BBB complain about sixth on sixth car rental company to ensure I get my money back. I rented from Sixt as a walk-in due to massive flight cancellations at JFK. The wait to be serviced was long, and there was no management of what turned into two queues of customers, meaning some customers were being served out of turn. The situation was chaotic, and when I finally completed my agreement, the car was not in the pick-up lot, and after searching in the rain, I had to come back to the office, where they eventually found the car and brought it to the pick-up area. Anyway, the issue I have is that I arranged for a one-day, one-way rental to Orlando. The rate was expensive, but all they had left was a top-end car (BMW X-5), and so I accepted. But at least they did not assess a one-way rental charge. Once I was on the road, my family called and advised they had found a flight to Orlando from Philadelphia. So, I drove to Philadelphia airport and returned the car there - 3 hours after I signed the rental agreement at JFK. When I received my receipt, Sixt had imposed a one-way rental charge, essentially tripling the cost of the rental - to over $600 for a 3-hour rental. I raised the issue with Sixt customer service, and althought they responded promptly, they refused to adjust the fees, and did not make any consideration for the fact that they assessed a one-way rental fee when the original contract did NOT include a one-way fee. While I understand contractually, since I changed the drop-off location, that they have the right to change the rental costs, the fees ended up being outrageous, and they refused to consider any adjustment via my attempts to correct the situation via contacting their customer service team. They have forever lost me as a customer, and I would suggest anyone else to avoid using Sixt as well. read more

I rented a same day rental through Uber. I had a 4:30 pickup and arrived at 5:25. Note: Sixt holds your rental for 1 hour. This is not on the rental agreement you receive when renting. The agent told me they did not have my car and tried to say it was because I was late. Once, I repeated the very policy she just told me. I asked her how they could have given the car away if I'm there, and they're supposed to hold for an hour. She refused to acknowledge that they broke policy and gave my car away before the allotted time. She also tried to tell me they had no cars except luxury vehicles, and if I wanted a rental, it would cost $500-$1000 deposit Issues: 1.The pick up time policy is not on the rental agreement 2. They would not call Uber to settle the issue or cancel or refund 3. Claimed there was no manager on duty 4. Agent would not admit to lying even after being caught in the lie about giving away my rental before allotted time 5. The rental office number is incorrect on the receipt. When arriving at JFK, if you want to experience the "rude New Yorker" then GO HERE for their customer service. The rental process as described by the employee makes no sense. Initially, they did t want to accept my credit card (MaterCard) for a reservation that was pre-paid with it since he had never heard of the Credit Union that it was issued by. He said it was the company policy but he would "be nice" and accept it. The he said abruptly "give me your phone". I was a bit taken aback so he said it again. I asked why and he said because they are paperless. Still not understanding why he needs to take my phone from me, he said that he needs to take a picture of his screen for me to show the employee at the exit. How about the process should be to text me a QR code for the exit for a paperless process?? Anyway, I give him my phone, he gives me the keys general area where the car is and says just click the remote till I find it. I find the car, very nice brand new BMW (the only consolation for this experience). I pull up to the exit booth and nobody was there. I waited a total of about 15 minutes, talking to the people that arrived behind me, all saying they will never rent here again. As I was about to walk back to the rental office, someone finally walks over. Never saying " sorry for the wait" or anything else. I show him my ID and the picture taken on my phone by the other agent and he says "give me your phone" I show him my name on the picture and he said he needs to take my hove into the booth to write down all the info.... On paper... you have got to be kidding me! I wanted to get out of there so I gave him my phone and was finally on my way. Weird culture for a car rental. Best to videotape your car on both pick up and return. The assumption appears to be that, if there's a scratch on return, it is your responsibility unless you can prove it was there in pick up (do they not keep detailed records of each car's condition?) Glad I was warned beforehand. Also, while the staff seems knowledgeable, nothing is speedy here, so build in extra time. First day of vacation, drove about 10 miles - car instructed us to pull over. We pop the hood, the oil cap was no where to be found, oil everywhere, radiator empty. They sent a flatbed, and a taxi (which was so small barely fit 4 adults w/one carryon suitcase each...) then had them drop us back at the airport. Gave us the a new one - same model.
