It has been over 20 years since I last stepped foot inside a Sizzler, but decided to give them another try this past weekend when I was up in the valley. I was pleasantly surprised of how good it was. Basically it's a smaller version of Soup Plantation but I think much better than Red Lobster and other chains. The shrimp at Sizzled is actually better than Red Lobster, they just have the cheddar biscuits. This location works by you place your order at the counter and then opt to add salad bar or not. The salad bar is only $12 so it's a really fair deal and it comes with all sorts of options as well as tacos and a dessert station. For my meal I ordered the New York steak and thought it was pretty good. It's not like a premium steakhouse, but it does taste like a really decent steak that you would purchase at the grocery store and cook yourself. It was not too fatty and I really enjoyed it. It is a bit expensive compared to the average lunch and is a lot of food so I would not suggest it for an everyday meal, but I definitely will give Sizzler another chance again in the future and would suggest to others looking for a good mini buffet option. The service was also very polite and they were very attentive with a drink refills. This location is quite large and has many different sized tables so it can host many different sized groups. There is also a large free parking lot attached so finding a parking space is very easy. read more

I have not been to a Sizzler in 30 years but I was leaving a doctors appointment and could not decide what to eat, so I popped in to check it out. The first thing I saw was the amazing salad bar. Salad bars are not my thing because too many people have access to the food. But I watched the staff, replace the cutlery every single time someone mishandled it. I advised them that one lady picked up lettuce and put it back in the bin and they brought out a new bin. I forgot how much food you get for the money. I just bought the salad bar to go and I got a huge salad, chicken wings, meatballs and clam chowder for $14.95. This also included ice cream Sundays, banana pudding and fresh fruit for dessert. Some people went back for 3rds. I can't imagine. The restaurant is clean and tidy. It looks exactly how I remembered it looked 30 years ago in a different state. They are all comfortably the same. There is a huge parking lot, so you do not have to worry about parking which is nice because there is not much parking anywhere else in the area. it opens at 11am. if you are going to go before too many people meander through the salad bar, that is probably the best time. read more

Sizzler is an iconic affordable steakhouse chain that's been around since 1958. Unfortunately, so many of their locations have closed over the years, but there are still a few remaining. We normally go to the Los Feliz location, but this time we wanted to try the Van Nuys location. I wanted to celebrate my son's recovery from surgery so we decided to come here for dinner tonight. There's a pretty big parking lot and it was pretty packed, being a Saturday night. We walked in and waited in line for a few minutes until David took our order at the counter. I got the Steak and Grilled Shrimp Skewers (2) with a side of Cilantro Lime Rice ($22.49) and an extra side of vegetables ($4.29). My son got the Italian Herb Chicken with Vegetables ($14.49) and his meal came with a side salad he could build at the salad bar. The place was clean and the booths are spacious. Our server Abby brought out the Garlic Toast followed by our food. I had to wait a few extra minutes for my extra veggies, but they were cooked to absolute perfection, just the way I like them. I had requested they be cooked extra when I placed my order and I'm glad I did. My son said his veggies were all raw, as if they had just been put on the plate straight from the cutting board. I enjoyed my entrée. The shrimp was absolutely delicious, grilled and seasoned perfectly. The steak was ok, it was definitely medium well/well done and I had asked for medium rare. It was also kind of fatty in parts. The rice was also pretty bland, but I'm not going to dock a star for these reasons. I still enjoyed the food. They have two restrooms, one for men and one for women. There are also plenty of to-go and third party orders coming and going. I want to be completely honest, Ashley is the star of this Show. She has the best attitude right when you walk in and she is very menu knowledgeable, Positive, and outgoing EVERY single time I've been at this location. A smile like that in this industry goes a long ways, I truly believe she can be a very successful waitress in a fine dining restaurant. In the Valley visiting family and suddenly I was like "I haven't had Sizzlers for a while." The closed all the Sizzlers in my area. We went to a different one but it was closed for maintenance and so we drove to Van Nuys. This one looked retro, but the food still hit. The salad bar is the best right now without Souplantation. It's still a great deal. I get an entree and then add the salad bar. Just get full off the salad bar and take my entree home. The staff were very nice and attentive. Having been to Sizzler's in a long time. But I'm glad I went back. I always get the same thing Malibu Chicken no ham and a baked potato. As always it was yummy. Also had a side salad which was good. But what truly it made the visit the best in a long time, was Elmer our waiter! He was so funny, kind and extremely helpful. He checked on us multiple times. Went out of his way to make sure that our iced teas were always filled. At one point we were just chatting with him and another regular client joined our conversation. I might be a bit biased here because I grew up eating at Sizzler regularly as a kid. My parents loved it and often took me and my brother. I especially enjoyed their early morning kids salad bar, which had cereal and lots of other breakfast treats. Now, as an adult, I appreciate the grown-up version of their salad bar. I love making my own salad and piling my plate with their wings, which I genuinely believe are some of the best, especially when paired with their BBQ sauce. It's just so good! I usually go back for another plate to make nachos and finish it all off with some ice cream, which you can even take home. It's a satisfying meal for me. That said, the price has definitely gone up over the years. I remember when the salad bar was just $6, but now it's almost $20. Inflation really sucks. This particular Sizzler location is nice the staff has always been friendly but it can be pretty dirty. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars. The place can feel a bit grimy, and the bathrooms could use some work. Still, it's easy for me to overlook because I grew up with Sizzler and have so many fond memories. When I tell you walking into this location and being greeted genuinely felt nice! Elmer at the register was pretty great. The team here is solid from what I can see. Abby was our waitress, Jose and Esther were all great. It was someone's birthday and that party brought a cake, Elmer and the crew sang Happy Birthday which was nice. You don't see that often especially at other Sizzler locations. This location is by far one of the best ones I've been to and theirs not many around. This location has pretty stellar service. They all helped each other out, I saw Abby picking up dishes, Elmer helping clean up, I really enjoyed eating here. Food was just how I ordered it. Late 80s early 90s ambiance - Clean, delicious salad bar with all the dressings Steak and shrimp that is well cooked , and portioned really well. 2 1/2 minute read: There may be some out there who've never been to SIZZLER. I haven't met them. But I know this: SIZZLER, once you've eaten there- "I'LL BE BACK!" For years now, we've been to SIZZLER all over Southern California and consistency has been a norm. They do steaks perfectly. Every menu item gets appropriate attention from the cooks. As a restaurant, SIZZLERS has been successful but by no means are they perfect. Example: On my last visit, I craved a 14 oz RIBEYE steak but when my meal came, I noticed my steak was not RIBEYE. I was very disappointed but refrained complaining. The waitress did ask if there was anything else she could get us. I said, "No thank you" although my steak was wrong. We finished our dinner and enjoyed EVERYTHING, but I took my steak home, since I didn't eat it. I did taste a slice and it was perfect and very delicious. It it wasn't RIBEYE. The next day I called SIZZLER and spoke with the Manager, which btw, was the Cashier that took or. Dinner order last night- Leslie. Leslie listened to my story. Her bottom line conclusion was "You should have mentioned it to the waitress when that happened. I can't do anything about it now." I offered several solutions, She listened politely but stood her ground. Conclusion: Leslie did her job, followed set rules but failed to keep the Customer satisfied. I have been coming to the Van Nuys location of Sizzler for a couple years now, and I am so happy I have been. Elmer is the guy who commands the floor, and he brightens our day, because he has such a great attitude towards customer service. The rest of the staff are also outstanding. The New York Strip steak along with that very important baked potato, loaded or with the works, served with iced tea, is my favorite. And the salad bar on off-nights is perfect, too. $20/person for microwaved and undercooked food should be a crime. I attempted to feed my family of 4 at this Sizzler today and, while I went in not expecting much, was surprised to find I should have set my standards even lower. My burger tasted boiled and I've had butter that was harder to cut. I can't explain it any better way: this is not a grilled burger. I was confused as to what sort of consistency I was attempting to enjoy when I looked into the kitchen and watched their cooks throwing food in the microwave and plating it. Steak and shrimp? More like fake and skimp. How do you undercook rice? How do you send out shrimp that isn't even fully cooked? Is the health inspector paying attention? It might be time for an audit. Salad bar items are supposed to be fresh, so why does the soup taste canned? What happened to this restaurant? Why is this food not fresh, checked for quality, and deserving of the extremely inflated asking prices? This Sizzler has great customer service and the food is good. The atmosphere was nice with good lighting. The restaurant was clean inside and had a few televisions surrounding the walls to watch sports. This is the first sizzler I've ever been to that had televisions. We were avid customers of scissors back in the 80s. To this day, my husband still wants to go to sizzler's for steak and all you can eat shrimp. Many people look at him in a strange way, like really? But that's where we ate and that's what he loves to have. Although scissors is not what it used to be, you can tell that the scissors seem to genuinely care and want to give you the best possible experience and food you could enjoy. We enjoyed our meal. My granddaughter had the shrimp shrimp, shrimp special. I had a salad bar and my husband of course when I asked him what do you want to order? He looked at me like you know already. Yes that's right. He likes his steak and all you can eat shrimp. The waitresses and hostesses were all very welcoming and continuously checked on us if we are enjoying our meal or want water or more shrimp for my husband. It may not be like it used to be, but really I enjoyed our meal here in Burbank as we were staying nearby. Come down the street. Here's the thing with Sizzler... is the food great? Not always, except their cheese bread. The cheese bread always slaps, but the thing with this particular Sizzler is the service. I can't remember his name, but there was one older gentleman who was quiet, but was always on top of things when we sat at his table. And for our most recent visit, we were lucky to sit at Elmer's table. 10s across the board!! Such a wonderful spirit, he took care of us, and made us feel so comfortable. I was so disappointed when I went in to eat last night with my family. From the beginning the hostess was EXTREMELY rude. It had been years I had gone to eat at a sizzlers since I always went as a child with my family, and this experience as an adult now was dismayed. The price was inflated and the food was mediocre. The 8 oz steak was not even a steak an extremely uncanny piece of meat. My children's grilled chicken was unseasoned, my child did not even want to finish it. I have not been to Sizzler in an incredibly long time. I didn't even know they still existed in this area. So I decided to stop in when I was passing by, and oh boy do I regret it. The one thing I always enjoyed from the salad bar, where the corn fritters. I don't know when they discontinued them, and none of the staff even knew what I was asking about when I asked where the corn fitters were. If anybody reading this comment could let me know, when did Sizzler discontinue the Corn fritters? As for the rest of the food, the cheapest thing on the menu was the hamburger so I ordered the cheeseburger. It came with french fries. Unfortunately the burger was disgusting. Reminded me of cafeteria food, something you might get at the discount grocery store. My french fries were served to me raw. When I told the weight staff, they did take care of it and replace them. The food at the salad bar is below subpar. From the incredibly greasy disgusting taco meat, they now have an orange chicken or the corn fritters used to be, and it's overly sweet sauce, barely covering the chicken. I tried the chicken wings, and they were so dried out. The breading was so dry. It was disgusting. I had some pineapple and Jell-O, and the Jell-O was fine. The typical hard cubes and the pineapple tasted fresh from the can. Altogether I paid about $23 with my hamburger french fries and the salad bar, and I'm completely regretting not spending that money elsewhere. Sizzler can close, go out of business like all the other good Buffets did, and I would certainly not miss this place ever again. I most certainly will never return ever. The food is disgusting, this level of food shouldn't be fed to humans. Actually, I wouldn't even feed it to my dog. As for the service, the two guys are running around. The dining room were great. Refilled my water, replaced the frozen french fries, and they did their job. It's just awful. They have to do their job in such a disgusting place like this. And as for the decor, this place hasn't been updated in many of the year. Everything looked worn out, the seats, the tables, there's no money being put into this place. And it shows. I ordered the steak and grilled shrimp skewers, which comes with rice and another side. Not only was my rice clumpy and cold, but the shrimp was gray and undercooked. Out of the eighty dollars we payed in total for four people, only one of the dishes we ordered came properly cooked, and it was the chicken tenders. The salad bar is the only good value menu item here, everything else on the menu is overpriced for how terrible quality the food is. Didn't realize until the end of our meal that our food was prepared in a microwave very visible from our table. Someone at my table got soup at the salad bar that was very clearly chunky style canned chicken noodle soup, not freshly prepared at all and tasted oddly like fish. I've been going to this location for a couple of years now and it has been excellent. The steaks are always cooked according to order and the late staff are always pleasant and polite. On this most recent trip, the steak, which I ordered medium, came out medium rare. The char-broiling was excellent and it was really delicious. As someone that's been coming to sizzler after for a few years it's noticeable to the before and after. The prices have increased for most of the food, the best value is the unlimited salad bar that they have. The steak is good, but the portion for it is small. They serve garlic bread now compared to before with dinner rolls and butter. They have updated the menu from previously so it's easier to read. The service is decent depending on the time the server forgets to bring items if you don't remind them when it gets busy. Ambiance is good for lunch break to stop by to eat out. But if you're looking for more finer dining I wouldn't recommend it. Overall it's still a pleasant experience to come by for lunch. read more
