I came around 4-5pm and there was no wait, the servers were friendly and got us to our seats right away. It's pretty quiet here which I did like because there was no need to talk louder over the music or chatter. You put in your order through an iPad at your table and then they bring out the food to you. I ordered a salmon udon and my sister ordered the beef udon. I usually get the beef udon but decided to try the salmon one because I love salmon. Both dishes are equally good but the beef is definitely more my taste. The only dislike I have is that it's hard to cook everything on the hot plate because it all gets stuck to the hot plate. Make sure to add the teriyaki sauce into your udon because if you eat it plain there's no flavor. Add lots of teriyaki sauce it's in a bottle on the table and it makes your dish so much better. Returned here when they first opened back up and it was as intimate, bright, open as I remembered. All the tables were set apart. They are still very generous with their portion sizes, and I love the natural lighting through the restaurant's large windows. I love that we could still order at the cashier and find our own table; The servers would then bring over our order (watch out because the plates are literally Sizzling). They only offer indoor seating, but there is plenty of parking in the parking lot of the plaza it's located in. Food: They have a pretty simple, limited menu. My partner and I absolutely loved our first time here, and will definitely come back soon. To sum it up, this place is DIY fried rice. Inside is very nice and spacious. The booths feel private, with divided between all tables. Although all of the ordering is through an iPad at the table, the servers were very kind. Pouring the sauce over the cast iron skillet was definitely satisfying. Food was decent. Everything was cooked well. Is this something that I necessarily would want to try again? Probably not as there are other restaurants with similar dishes but have a wider variety of options. The amount of food per dish was really filling. Price was good. There's more than enough tables inside but the wait in line during peak lunch hours just leaves you wishing they have a better system. My husband and I have been ordering dinner to-go from Sizzling Lunch over the past few weeks, as we explore new parks to visit while waiting out traffic from work commute. Our go-to is their kimchi beef pepper rice. Sure, this doesn't have the novelty of the food being sizzling hot and cooked however much you'd like, but we haven't been disappointed with our to-go orders yet.  The kimchi beef pepper rice is nice and hot every time we've picked up our orders. They don't skimp on the order either. There's enough meat and kimchi with every bite of rice. The meat is cooked just right as well and not overdone. Sauces are provided on the side, so you can add more or less flavor as you see fit. My only complaint is that their dish can be quite oily at the bottom.  There are lots of street parking available as well as a parking lot that is shared with other stores in the plaza. read more

We came on a Monday and it wasn't packed but we came like at 230ish which is a odd time to eat but it was after my eye appt. They had given me as much of each sauce that I need to put into the dish to make it tasty and not did it taste good. Finally, something that's Pepper Lunch-y that's not Pepper Lunch. I've grown to love the OG, not the US franchise though, so it's nice to have found Sizzling Lunch that serves just about the same quality and flavor I've known through the years. My favorite is the beef pepper rice. Beef to rice ratio is normal-hunger-level-good, but if you're feeling extra you could add more beef and customize it with any of the add on options. I like to mix the rice right away to avoid toasting the bottom while cooking and turning the raw beef on the side. I then bring it all together in a mound and smother it with garlic shoyu and teriyaki sauce and add more freshly cracked pepper on top. I love it because it's nostalgic to me, if there's one thing I'd change however, it would be the sizzling plate. The temp is just not right from start to finish and IYKYK. I'm excited they're expanding and planning to open new locations (Berkeley 2022, and more in SJ). I sure hope they open one that's closer to home in the near future. read more

You do all the work seasoning it to your liking mix it up and there you have it. I love the concept and being a chef the execution but I'd offer my customers more assortment of seasonings and sauces. I'd also have a higher grade quality of proteins. Now being and Islander I had to order the sugarcane juice Flavored with strawberry because the order flavor was sold out. My recent discovery! It is the Japanese version of a bibimbap. It is rice, veggies, meat served on a hot pot which cooks as you mix the ingredients. I had the cheese curry beef which was excellent. The rice was most interesting, it has the crispy texture, good beef meat, and strong garlic aroma. The whole thing was stir fried, very Chinese style, and just lumped into the container. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The croquettes (two of them) were brown and crisp outside, creamy and soft inside, and laced with nice veggies. The sweet potato fries were slightly underdone, but not to the point of hurting our enjoyment. Really, leave them in the fried for two more minutes please. The compliant was on the entrance queue. I came in Sunday for lunch and the line was already pretty long, thankfully I got in before the huge rush! I ordered a curry beef rice with cheese as I always do, and decided to try the sweet potato fries and cheese fries since I was with a larger party. The sweet potato fries were average, and I was super surprised by the cheese fries since I didn't expect it to look the way that I did. Both were pretty good though (especially the cheese fries!). The curry beef rice was spectacular as always. Tip: check in on Yelp for a free add-on! Their garlic butter is sooo good. It's your standard hot rice plate--perfect for your craving. I ordered the Garlic Pepper Rice and my friend ordered the Kimchi Pepper Rice. When our meals arrived, I liked how mine had a bit of garlic flavor on top of the rice which that is different from other teppanyaki locations I've been to. I tried a bit of my friend's Kimchi Pepper Rice and it was good too, but I'm not a huge fan of kimchi so I prefer mine more, so for the ones who do like kimchi it's still a good choice!
