We've been coming to Mammoth for 30 years and friends have been telling us to eat at this restaurant for nearly that long. I guess we're just tired after our hikes and cycling that we didn't want to drive back down to Convict Lake. We finally made reservations for Thursday night at 5:30 PM and headed down. It's really only a 15 minute drive from Mammoth to enjoy dinner in a very lovely setting. We had reviewed the menu online before we came and already decided what we wanted. Unfortunately, they were out of both of those items. I server was Daniel and he was friendly and helpful in choosing other entrees. We split a Caesar salad, which was refreshing. For Andres, we ordered the venison and duck. My husband was worried about the venison, but Daniel assured him that he would find it very tender. Both of the nails were very good, but I think we ended up preferring the venison. The plates were beautifully prepared and served. Our food came out within about 15 minutes. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service we received. We will definitely be back again and hopefully the lamb will be available. read more

The one and only restaurant located inside Convict Lake Resort and 5 minutes away from Convict Lake itself! You'll see the locals coming here and how that makes the restaurant come into life every evening. Location aside, this restaurant has a very cozy vibe which wooden exterior and interior, all big windows surrounding the restaurants and elegant booth seating areas. I can imagine coming here during the winter season and looking out of the windows to see falling snowflakes while sipping on my hot beverage. We rented a cabin at Convict Lake Resort and had prepared all our food with us. However, after cooking for ourselves for 2 days, we grew tired and decided to eat out. Why not? A quick research and we were surprised of how many great reviews this restaurant had. Because this was an impromptu thing, we couldn't make any reservation. We decided to go early around 5:30pm. Luckily the bar area was open on a first come first serve basis. At 5:30pm, the bar area was almost filled too with people without reservations like us. We were lucky to be able to grab one of the last few open tables. Our server, though very busy himself, was attentive and made sure to take our orders and bring out our food in a timely manner. I appreciated that a lot! We ordered burgundy escargot for appetizer, rack of lamb and beef Wellington for main dishes and crème brûlée for dessert. We were blown away by the burgundy escargot! OMG it smelt heavenly! It came out like a pillowy pie which you have to tap it open. As soon as it cracked and showed the interior, a heavenly smell came out that attracted attention of many of our neighbors. One of them even came over and asked which dish was it. The escargots inside were tender yet tasty and matched so well with the buttery pie exterior! They were super juicy as well. I'm still drooling now as I'm writing this and recalling the amazing escargot dish. Our main dishes, however, shined a bit less than the escargot appetizer. They were good but nothing spectacular. We loved the portion sizes and how everything was tastefully presented. Honestly, for a restaurant located near Convict Lake area like this, this restaurant exceeded my expectations. Had a fantastic visit on New Year's Eve. Food was all very delicious, wait staff was friendly. Made reservations ahead for a large party. They were able to split the bill for every couple which is always really nice, takes the guess work out. Luckily for us the 203 was closed so what would have been a jam packed evening was not. The welcome, however, was not warm or friendly. The food made up for our initial hesitation. The tomato bisque was perfectly balanced and served with a cheese crisp. The mouthwatering pear & endive salad was crisp and served with crispy prosciutto, candied walnuts and crumbled blue cheese tossed in a creamy blue cheese vinaigrette. I highly recommend the outstanding Beef Wellington, a filet mignon and wild mushroom duxelles in puff pastry-served with a bourbon glace de veau. Cherise was a personable and attentive server. Hubby had the Kentucky Manhattan with Woodford Reserve, Amaretto, and cherry. I had the blueberry mule (non alcoholic). The bread was served warm and was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. We split a Caesar salad; the romaine was crisp and the croutons were obviously house made. Hubby had the Steak Frites. He ordered it medium rare but it was a little more on the rare side but he did like it. I had the fettuccine with pesto. The serving size was perfect - not too big so I could finish it. For dessert, we split the apple strudel and it was a perfect ending to the meal. While the restaurant menu was upscale, the ambience was more casual - not necessary to dress up. read more

Food is absolutely fantastic. We tried the Beef Wellington and the New Zealand Lamb Chop. A definite repeat for these. The food presentation was amazingly beautiful and the Caesar Salad was perfect. A few notes about our first time experience here - The dining room was completely booked for the holiday weekend yet seating is available in the bar area on a first come first serve basis. We waited in line for the restaurant to open at 5pm and immediately went for a high top table in the open bar seating, however, Janice refused the two of us to sit at the high top saying the table is meant for four people and we would only be allowed to sit at the bar. We complied with Janice's instructions sitting at the bar, placing our dinner order - only to turn around and find two people sitting at the high top we wanted... What a BACKWARDS-BACKFIRE experience. As Janice said, don't worry I will take good care of you. And at the end of our meal, Janice did absolutely "nothing" for us. One would think that saying "I'm going to take good care of you" would have been a drink on the house or even a dessert since bar service was forced. I would have given five stars but what we were put through by Janice, then seeing two people seated is out right wrong in many ways. Shame on this crappy situation. read more

Phenomenal!!! Live in the area and haven't been here in about 15 years, I've been missing out. The service from Wayne was top notch, he kept our waters filled and made great suggestions from the menu. We tried a few different items and our fav is the beef Wellington, way better than Hells Kitchen in Las Vegas. Crème Brûlée was so good as well. No complaints about anything at all, couldn't have asked for a better evening to celebrate my brother's birthday. I highly recommend making reservations 1-2 weeks in advance of your visit. When we first looked at reservations it was 2 weeks before out trip and there were a lot of timeslots available, but when we checked one week before our trip our only options were 5:30 or 8:45 so book early or else you'll have to be ok with dinning in the lounge which is great for outgoing extroverts because you'll get to chat up some other visitors. While this restaurant is "fine dinning" the atmosphere is a bit more laid back. There will be kids playing outside (weather permitting) because it's located in a very family friendly campground resort. It's very wholesome, the day we visited there were kids playing soccer out front. We were seated near a window in the back facing a cabin and I watched the cutest grandparents setting up a game for their grandkids, then saw the whole family come out of the cabin to play the scavenger hunt like game with the grandkids. While there was no "lake view" there were pictures and paintings of the lake hung around the restaurant. The dinning area could benefit from some updates, but since it's in the woods the cabin vibes work. All of the appetizers sounded great and we were leaning toward ordering the escargot to enjoy with the warm sourdough bread, but we totally forgot to order it and it was probably for the best because we were not too hungry since our reservation was so early. I had the caramelized onion and mushroom soup and the Bosc Pear & Belgian Endive salad that had crispy prosciutto, candied walnuts and crumbled blue cheese tossed in a creamy blue cheese vinaigrette. This salad was so good we tried to recreate it at home the following week and failed miserably. My husband ordered the frenched chicken and he said it was the best chicken he's had in a restaurant. Our friend had a steak and loved it. They both ordered a couple martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives that looked outstanding. I wish we hadn't been so full so we could have enjoyed some appetizers and dessert. The service was top notch and the wait staff is very gentle about reminding guests that there is reservation behind yours and they need to turn the table over. read more

This place is legit !! There are lots of food options in Mammoth and I've tried most of them but on this particular day we were looking for something good and we've always wanted to try this place. Called looking for a last-minute reservation and the person who answered the phone was very accommodating and told me to head on over, which was pretty cool, Awesome setting at convict lake with deer outside while you're eating in a very old-school vibe in the dining area in the restaurant. They do have a bar area which is a little more laid-back, but we chose to eat in the dining area which offered some different food items, they have a very extensive menu with lots of good options. It's a break from the burgers and sandwiches up in Mammoth. If you're looking for fine dining look no further Service was amazing, waiter was funny and very accommodating with recommendations. We all had different things at the table and honestly everybody that ate with us really like their food. I think the food is priced perfect for the quality that they deliver.. I had the escargot to start which was delicious and then moved onto the beef Wellington for my main, which was also delicious. My buddy has a rack of lamb and even gave up a piece to me and honestly that was delicious. Also, my wife is vegetarian and she had the salmon and she had nothing but praise to say, for the dish, also very well executed. We like the food so much that we ended up coming back two days in a row. We had the bananas fosters for dessert and it's honestly like watching a mini show when they prepared table side, which was cool and my son got a kick out of it. The chicken was juicy, tender, and coated in well seasoned gravy. The vegetables that came on the side were perfectly sautéed, while the cauliflower mash was creamy and hearty, just like regular potatoes. Last but not least, I I love how the meal was served on hot plates since it kept the food nice and warm throughout. Many people raved about this place so we had to try it out and it was pretty good. The dining area was completely booked for 2 days so make a reservation in advance. The only available seating was in the bar area on a first come first serve basis. Although our intention was to sit at a high top we were told that we had to sit at the bar because they wanted to fill all the other tables with more people yet when we turned around and seen 2 others sitting at a high top, it didn't sit well or seem right. Keep in mind they open at 5PM and people were lining up before that to have a seat. It was really a treat to meet new people and have a chat while enjoying dinner. Causal setting. I believe the lady behind the bar was Janice if not forgive me, she was nice. The Caesar salad tasted fresh and was chilled. The trio of mushrooms was decent. The beef Wellington was tasty as well as the lamb. The fuji apple mascarpone strudel was good. I didn't enjoy the ice tea, somewhat tasted like hay. The Soup De Jour was absolutely delicious Cauliflower Soup with Truffle oil drizzle on top. Great with the warm bread n butter they brought out. After a long drive from San Diego, we checked into our RV campsite, eager to eat. After a quick map search and a chat with some locals, we drove approximately four miles to Convict Lake. We passed the restaurant by a few hundred yards to catch a glimpse of the lake before sunset--and it was the best decision we could've made. Surrounded by the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains, the lake was absolutely awe-inspiring. After taking in the view, we returned to the restaurant, which had a warm and inviting appearance, accented by decorative lights and large windows. While the main dining room--with its white tablecloths--looked appealing, we chose to sit in the bar instead. I ordered a Mammoth Hazy IPA, while my wife went with a double Tito's tall soda with a splash of cranberry. Be sure to ask for waters as well--this was easily one of the best waters I've ever had, making it into my personal top three! The menu was extensive, and after some consideration, we ordered the Burgundy Escargot, which came topped with puff pastry. As longtime escargot fans, we had never seen it presented this way before. After our first bite, we were both pleasantly surprised--it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered salads and a 10-inch Mt. Morrison meat lovers' pizza to share. After her first bite, my wife immediately declared both the pizza and the salads a perfect 10. I couldn't disagree--everything was spot on.
