I came here for a quick to-go dinner and was amazed at their menu, everything sounded so good and almost fancy. Since it was my first time there, I got the first thing on the menu "chicken heaven?" It took a bit of cooking time but that's because they actually had to cook the chicken - so it was fresh. Flavour- the sandwich was so amazing! Not your typical fast food sandwich. This sandwich was lined with fresh veggies - not iceberg lettuce haha. Their chicken was so fresh and flavourful. Their sauce paired amazingly with the chicken and dried cranberries. Overall, great taste. People - the people working there seem super nice. Even if the wait was a little bit, they assured your meal was coming up soon. Recommend - definitely recommend the chicken heaven, even though it was the only thing I had, still enjoyed and I think everyone should try it! read more

I love finding reliable take out/delivery close by. This place goes beyond reliable. My absolute favorite thing is the "Greek with a twist" salad with chicken. I'm kicking myself for not taking a photo but it's a GIANT bowl of fresh romaine and then all the yumminess like roasted peppers and kalamata olives sectioned around it. They even send your hot protein in a separate container so your salad doesn't get mushy! I get dinner and 2 lunches out of it and it's delish! The roast beef is also awesome. I got the junior and it was more than I could finish with super tender roast beef and delicious sauce. My wife and I used to live in Beverly, and ate at Nick's Roast Beef on (almost) a weekly basis, which is truly a North Shore treasure and serves the best Roast Beef sandwiches in Greater Boston for 50+ years running (though I was miffed to hear about their tax fraud...) With that said, after moving to East Cambridge, we were delighted to discover Skampa, which serves the mouth-watering Northshore-style Roast Beef sandwiches that we have grown to love. There are three elements to a delicious Northshore-style Roast Beef sandwich: 1) Thinly sliced (almost shaved), moist, rare beef 2) Soft, griddled, greasy buns 3) The "3-Way" toppings, which includes Cheese, BBQ Sauce, and Mayo. I sometimes like to add grilled onions. Optional 4) A side of Small Fries, which is a small HEAPING on a plate, and enough to feed two people. I always ask for extra, home-made BBQ Sauce, so I could drizzle it over the drier parts. If this is what you're looking for, Skampa will not disappoint. With that said, the beef used is not of the same high quality as used at Nick's Roast Beef i.e. it's not so moist and tender that it melts in your mouth. There are tougher parts that definitely require more vigorous chewing. In terms of the venue, I hope you don't go into a sandwich shop looking for decor. This is a hole-in-the-wall sandwich shop that you go to for a quick bite, not a date. But the service is excellent, with some of the friendliest folks around. There's no restroom for customers, but when my 3-year-old couldn't hold it, they kindly let me use the employees' restroom. The TV is always on, there's always enough room to sit down, and there are high chairs for children. It's also a UPS Drop-Off spot, so you can try it out while you're dropping off your UPS packages. While I go here mostly for the Roast Beef Sandwiches, I will add that their Grilled Chicken Heaven Wrap is truly heavenly. It's a grilled chicken wrap, with generous amounts of shaved parmesan, sliced almonds, cranberries, carrots, greens, and ranch dressing. Ordered a pastrami sandwich and fries, first fries were banging and I wish I had ordered a side of ranch to dip them in. The reason im deeming my meal three stars is because the sandwich was more like a sloppy joe. The bun was a floppy, soggy, burger bun and the pastrami was all over the place. Ok, Skampa serves the greasiest pizza that I've ever had in my life. And while that could be a compliment, I guess, believe me that it's not. You could lubricate a F1 car with the grease from this pizza. You could slick back a Trump child's hair for a year with the grease from this pizza. Some places give you the option of extra toppings. Some places give you the option of extra sauce. This place gives you extra grease, and it's not an option. Aside from that, the space is sort of uninspiring. The floors were sticky, and the service was gruff. I'm a fan of a low down pizza and sub shop, but this is just not cutting anyone's mustard. This place is pretty gross. I've gotten takeout a few times, but tonight is definitely the last. Buffalo chicken fingers are awful, and the fries and onion rings that come with it are soggy greasy garbage. The steak bomb calzone is also soggy, the beef has a bad flavor and is very tough and gristly, worst of all it's totally lacking in cheese. It was delicious when I was done I went to order another to go for my husband Before I went to Order another person came in and asked "how much is the super beef" he ordered it the same way I did above the same guy behind the counter told the customer $7.25 which confused me Because I just paid eight dollars and I gave them a $2 tip so I paid $10 To be clear this isn't about the $.75 it was about the fact that you give one price to one person and another price to another person I was next so I asked what the difference was between a large beef and a super beef and he said the roll I said I'd like to order a super beef the same way as the last one & the same as he - the customer B4 me ordered it He said my total was $7.75 I began to remind him that the last time he charged me $8 and that he charged the guy behind me $7.25 just now FOR THE SAME SANDWICH I asked why $.50 or $.75 more because I asked it to be cut in half? Skampa is a total neighborhood type sub shop. The pizza which is $4 for a small and $6 for a large after 3 or 4 pm daily, is one of the best deals in the neighborhood. While not the best pie I've ever had, it's certainly more than edible. I've also tried the roast beef that everyone on yelp was raving about. It was above average but I felt like the toppings they had was really limited. I am a fan of horse radish and they just don't have that. The BBQ/mayo combination isn't really my cup of tea, so next time I'll go for plain. It's a generous portion for what you pay. Even the junior size can be a meal in itself. Prices are really good. Food is ok. Great if you're in the neighborhood but not worth going out of your way for. read more

This place is so close to my house it's amazing that I don't come here more often. At first it seemed like it was mainly because they are cash only and I am a plastic carrying person. Also, if a place is pimping their roast beef we're probably not going to get along. Well turns out I've been missed the best effing fries on earth. Damn these things are good. I mean, I'm sitting here cursing the fact that I don't have cash on me and it's negative eleventy million (23 whatever) degrees outside so I'm surely not running to the ATM, they are that good. I can't speak to much else here, fries: delicious, mozz sticks: yummy, everything else? Not sure. I can tell you that the people who work here are super sweet, always with a kind word and a smile, the cops in our neighborhood frequent this place so that has to mean something, the restaurant is always very clean, and they keep weird hours. This place is awesome! Might be the most inexpensive meal I've had in Cambridge. Ever. They had a great deal on an tasty buffalo chicken sandwich and it came with perfectly crunchy fries and a soda all for 5 bucks! And this was at dinner. Side effects of consuming this sandwich include, but are not limited to, sticky fingers, BBQ-flavored burps, stained clothing, saucy grins, sudden feelings of contentment, and short-term food comas. Do not consume this sandwich alone, as it may be necessary for someone to drag you back to your place of work after consumption. Please consume in moderation. I would imagine their other products will need similar warnings, but I have yet to find out. Things I love about this place: Definitely a mom and pop shop and it's run by a husband and wife. The wife always greets you with a "what would you like hunny?" SKAMPA HEALTHY SUB ON A PITABREAD.I know, you'll read it and think that really sounds boring, but try it. I don't know what kind of drugs they put in this sandwich but I keep coming back for it. Best sandwich they make next to their roast beef! CHEAP ! You get a crazy amount of food when you get a dinner (rice,onion rings, salad and a desert for like 10 bucks. The pizza's kind of are bad but huge slices (1/4 of a pizza) and I am pretty sure they offer a one topping lunch special pizza afor 4.99 with a drink. The buffallo chicken sandwich is also REALLY good for 4 dollars or so. The roast beef is in a category all in itself. Just get the bbq sauce and mayo like they normally put it. Oh boy. I have a distinct advantage to most posters on this place, I live in all actually right next door to this place. On a cold day I can go get dinner and not need to worry about bringing my coat, I'm just not outside that long enough to get cold. So by association, since I live so close to Skampa, I eat there all the time, and I'm always happy with what I've gotten. Let's start with the roast beef, it's mucho delicious. Cooked just right, full of flavor and just a perfect definition of what roast beef should be. Now let me tell you about roast beefs cousin, the pastrami. What a savory treat I find in pastrami. As much flavor as the roast beef has, the pastrami multiplies that by a gizzilion times over. Finally, I'll talk about my new favorite, their calzones. Full of meets and cheeses with just the right amount of crust to hold it all together without feeling overly chewy. And cheep, you can get a "small" calzone for roughly the same price as their roast beef or pastrami sandwich for twice as much food. read more

Oh Skampa, I used to love you so much more. But somewhere along the way you lost your way a little bit. You always offered mountains of good food at a super cheap prices. But then I think maybe you started to think that to keep up with competition you thought that the best way to do that was drop your prices to CRAZY low prices (you actually call it "Pizza CrAzE" according to your menu), but to do so drop your standards. Your pizzas went from slightly small, but scrumptious thin crust, artful pies to super doughy with lower-quality tasting cheese. Bigger does not always equal better. With that being said, even with slightly declined standards, your food is still pretty good for the price. I think you've succeeded if your goal was to get customers to go to your restaurant for your prices, but unfortunately I used to go for the great food AND low price, but now it's more like when I want to eat for cheap. You were a 4-star for sure like 3 years ago and earlier, but now I think I have to go for the 3. Sorry. It pains me to do, especially since your owners/employees seem extremely hard working, friendly, and just trying to get by in an extremely difficult industry. read more

Yuuuuuuummmy roast beef! The Super Beef comes on an Onion Bun, while smaller roast beef sandwiches come on a regular bun. It's excellent roast beef. The fries are hit-and-miss - sometimes tasty, crispy, and wonderful and sometimes a limp, soggy mess. At only $1 for a small (which is huge - same size as a large at a fast food joint) you can always get them and throw them away if they're not good. Small restaurant and very hot in the summer, so get it to go. But I haven't found roast beef that can beat it in the Boston area. read more

Decent. I live right near this place and it definitely is where all the police and lawyers flock to for lunch. You can order pizza rolls and nice big piece of square pizza on the cheap I always get the chicken on rice pilaf and SO gets chicken wings dinner. I was skeptical, but the super roast beef sandwich is surprisingly good. The joint looks like your run-of-the-mill takeout with pizza, burgers, sandwiches and what-not on the aging menu. The roast beef was incredibly tender, and actually very fresh-tasting. Enjoy this sammy on the onion roll (the 'super' option), you won't be disappointed. I happened upon Skampa a year ago while searching for a futon at the nearby Boston Bed Company. I was starving at the time, so I really had no qualms about stopping in this unspectacular looking corner deli for something to eat. Much to my amazement, the sandwiches were actually very good. I marked Skampa down on my mental list of good sandwich shops and promptly forgot about it. These days I get to Skampa fairly regularly as I now live only a block away. The Super Pastrami sandwiches and the extremely cheap pizza specials keep me coming back for the occasional lunch or pizza night. As some of noted, the pizza can be very good. They have a good sense for a crispy, yet moist crust. However, and I haven't yet figured out why, I've found that these pizzas need to be consumed quickly; they can get soggy and unappetizing after about 15 or 20 minutes. I think some of this boils down to ordering the right toppings (e.g. simple combinations like pepperoni and sausage), Skampa is one of those good places every neighborhood needs. The portions are large, the prices are affordable, and the food is surprisingly good. I don't know if I'd go out of my way to to get something here, but it is a good choice if you're in the area. read more

I consider myself a Boston-area roast beef connoisseur, having grown up on the stuff from places in the city and throughout the North Shore. Skampa's roast beef is AMAZING -- in my opinion the best in the city proper. Get a super beef with cheese and sauce, comes on an onion roll as soft as grandma's belly. The other items on their menu...er...not so much. Fries and onion rings taste like oil deep fried in oil -- I could feel my arteries hardening with each bite. Their pasta dinners are huge and cheap -- taste isn't anything to write home about, but they're OK. Nice little Greek restaurant within a 10 minute walk of the Boston Museum of Science. When you order at the counter, the owner towers about 5 feet over you, making you feel like you're looking up at a giant. Her daughter was also present and entertaining to watch. Looking for a local place to deliver pizza for a quick office meeting. They were nice and right on time - when I asked them to be here at 3:00 they were here at 2:55. Slices are huge and everything came in piping hot, and the customer service was excellent. On to the negatives .. I ordered 3 large pizzas and they got 2 wrong. Didn't call them to let them know simply because I needed the pizza *right now* for the meeting. Also, they're a cash-only establishment, which is so very mom-and-pop of them, but also frustrating in a world where I have to beg coworkers for cash since an ATM is oh so far. Skampa has recently raised their rates so it's now more of a $7 dalliance with a pizza. Not as much of a bargain, for sure, but it still does the trick when you are hungry. And the exterior of this place, including the back door, sidewalks and complete dumping ground in the back needs a real cleaning. It's trashy looking.
