I stayed at the Marriott across the street and walked over to grab a quick bite before bed. The moment I walked in I knew I was going to have a good meal. The cook who I am assuming is the owner, was incredibly polite and happy. With just a few words and a lot of smiles I had a cheeseburger sub and fries on the way. I took it back to my hotel to eat in front of the television. I wish I had eaten there so I could tell them how fantastic my meal was. Truly one of the best cheeseburger subs I have ever had and, I've had many! I'm in the Boston area a few times per year and have pinned this location on my Google maps for a return. This place is the best. Seriously. Not only is their pizza bomb (I'm a New Yorker and very snobby about a good thing slice) but the salads and wraps I've had have all been good too, and everything is super reasonably priced. What really makes me love it, though, is how nice everyone that works there is. It's a family owned small business that feels like a true neighborhood staple of Cambridge. I will give them a 3 based on the opinion of 2 people and 2 different subs. I had the steak and cheese (Swiss), mushrooms, hots, mayo and ketchup (had to add my own). Overall the sub was ok my likes = soft bread and full of meat Dislikes = dry, lack of any flavor at all. On the Italian sub: I have no comment I don't eat pork BUT my boyfriend who pretty much has no complaints ever said this isn't how he is used to his Italian subs and exact words "this is NOT it". The sad part is he barely eats pork and that is by default because I don't eat it so when he does it should be exactly what the doctor ordered. Nice girl at counter, she had a newborn which I made a comment about ho sweet they were. Food was fine. Not great. Not bad. Totally acceptable. 3 stars because Cambridge has a mask mandate and a manager was training someone and the manager was the only one not wearing a mask. This is not ok in a city with a mask mandate. The trainee had one as did the girl at the desk but the manager didn't put one on when I asked her. So silly- how is wearing a simple piece of light masking hard? She rolled her eyes at me. Ok. It's not my rule. She wasn't nice at all. I also ordered beef shawarma (on receipt) and got chicken. Family run place which it seems tries to have Mexican (carne asada and pollo asada Mexican) but also many others. It's a strange time and food was basic and ok. Nothing bad. Live in the neighborhood and there wasn't really any recent reviews so I was hesitant to order but also starving. To my surprise they had a great selection of paninis, subs, and wraps, as well as salads. Family friendly prices and the lady was friendly when picking up my order. I got a Greek chicken wrap on pita which was fresh and delicious, my husband had the turkey club panini and fries and said it was amazing and the bread was phenomenal. We will definitely be back! It was $10 ($1.00 to add hummus and tabouli) The size was very large, I was stuffed after just half and left the other half for tomorrow. It took an hour to deliver and was on the bland side. The amount of tabouli and hummus was very little for the extra charge and its stuffed into your gyro. There are about 3 slices of gyro and mine were kind of soft maybe from the long delivery time. I've order from Cafe Anthony a couple of times - so this is a delivery only review. One time I ordered some mozzarella sticks along with some iced coffee. The iced coffee was actually pretty darn good and it served its purpose - some cold and tasty caffeine intake. The order of mozzarella sticks was rather large and I couldn't finish them all in one seating. Of course these came with a side of marinara sauce which was enough for all the mozza sticks. The inside was incredibly cheese and perfectly melted while the outside was crispy - though I wish these were crispier. The batter was also pretty tasty though they could do with a bit less salt and pepper since you have the cheese going for you. I've also ordered the bacon egg and cheese from here which was pretty tasty and overall a well crafted and put together breakfast sandwich. They have some interesting french toast options which I would like to eventually go in and try. When I first saw this place I was pretty skeptical since they seem to offer a very very wide range of items across a bunch of different cuisines. Very disappointed with my experience. Food showed up 15 minutes late, which I wouldn't have been concerned about if the food did not also show up cold and incorrect. I ordered an omelette, it was so old and unappealing I couldn't even eat it. I ordered it with 2 portions of bacon and it had just cheese in it. I called them to try and make it right, they told me that I live too far away and they wouldn't come back with the correct item. Just stopped in for a bite as it was really close to the hotel I am staying at for the night. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the entire family and welcomed into their quaint restaurant. Not long after placing my order, I had a pizza ready and was out the door back to my hotel. I initially thought I'd eat 1/2 of the Chicken, pepperoni, jalapeño and mushroom pizza however couldn't stop myself! I ate it ALL!!! It was soooo good!!!! Deeply disappointed. I rarely ever post on Yelp, but I can't ignore my experience that I had with this restaurant today. I go to school in the Waltham area and use the food delivery app Grubhub on occasion. I was tired of campus food, so I decided to give Cafe Anthony a shot and order delivery through the app. Not worth it. I placed my order at 10:33 am, and got a notification that I should expect my delivery between 11:20 and 11:30. My order did not get delivered to me until 12:20, and if I myself had not contacted the restaurant, I wouldn't have even thought I'd be getting my food. The man who I spoke to on the phone was nice enough, but didn't think to offer me any type of discount, or even apologize for the absurdly long wait. At one point, he couldn't even get the delivery man to pick up his phone. The delivery driver also wound up on the other side of campus, which is an issue that could've been avoided if he had read my two notes I posted in my order telling him to call me as soon as he got on campus (when filling out the order form, you give your phone number so the restaurant could call me if an issue exactly like this arises) so I could tell him how to get to my dorm from the entrance. My school is only about 5 miles, or 20 minutes, from the restaurant. I can understand a 5-10 minute delay with my order, but an hour late is ridiculous. Now, onto the food. I ordered a steak and cheese sub, a grilled chicken and pesto roll-up, and some french fries. The total amount for all three of these items, including delivery fees and tip (which I'd given to the driver before my whole delivery fiasco), came out to around $32. All of my food was cold when it got here, the fries were soggy, and my steak and cheese sub...didn't have cheese in it. I'm still perplexed. Apparently I'm not the only one who was given a cheese-less steak and cheese- see Amanda R.'s review just below mine. I go to a school with 4,000 kids, and have strong ties to other schools very close by, who love to adventure out into the Boston area food scene. Rest assured, I will tell them of my experience here today and make sure that they don't encounter the same issues I did. My son and I came to Boston for A Little mini vacation working around a medical appt for my son. We started trying to order dinner at 4 pm. We set up for another rest to deliver dinner at 7:30. so, we use to order from here all the time. I work at a hospital and the food and service was always nice.. fast forward to today... Cafe Anthony is under new management and boy are they rude. First we asked for delivery and they said "we don't deliver" and we almost didn't go, but I decided to go pick it up instead. We called to get some salads and the woman who answered was so rude. We had asked for a specific thing with one of the salads and she pretty much fought with us and was mad that we had such a request. When I got back to work we realized that each salad had a different dressing than what was asked for. They sent balsamic for every salad...even the Greek salad. Now how does that make sense? One of the salads also had burnt bacon which was so hot that melted the container. We will not be ordering from here anymore. So sad that it was sold as the previous owners were awesome! What? one star review? I live near here and eat here probably twice a month. Nothin fancy. Fast food. Decent prices. A few tables to eat at. They have a small selection of Middle eastern offerings, such as Falafel and hummus-touboili salad with Tahini. They offer about 10 Vegetarian Wraps as well. Also: Gourmet Pizza, Panini Grilled Sandwiches,Combination Dinners with fries or rice and salad, Hot and cold subs, salads, soups........there is a great variety of food. I always get the Spicy fajita chicken on top of rice with provolone. Extra Spice please. Parking is in the Citizens back lot and the joint is located on the corner of the street Decent place. Damn the thing was good. It also came with a teeny salad and fries. The fries were surprisingly delicious and since when have carbs not improved a day? The salad came with no dressing and so I'm assuming was merely garnish and was treated as such. For what it's worth it looked pretty. All of this for about $6. Damn. Day = MUCH improved. I've never ordered delivery from here, as it's convenient to both work and home, so I cannot comment on those services. However. I have to drastically disagree with the 1-star review of this place. I've been hearing a lot of good buzz from the locals for a while now, so I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago. Had a cheeseburger sub and an order of fries, and I was pleasantly surprised. The ingredients are fresh - no pre-frozen burger patties here - and the quality and care really show. They batter their fries, so if you like them that way, you're in for a treat. And I have discovered, today, that their chocolate chip cookies are surprisingly tasty! They were perfectly done, with a tasty cookie batter, good consistency, and even at lunchtime the choco chips were slightly gooey and lovely. I have now ordered on a weekend, on a weekday evening, and at lunchtime. The lunch crowd is definitely their busiest time, but the employees were all friendly and helpful. Everyone made it a point to smile at me, and even though it was hectic, I never felt they had forgotten me - they made it a point to acknowledge and take care of me. They've always been friendly and welcoming - even when I went in at an off-peak time on a Saturday and weren't sure if they were even open. Whether they're overflowing or you're the only person there, they'll take care of you. A few notes: I probably wouldn't order the fries for delivery, as they'd likely be soggy by the time they got to you. They come out very hot and crispy, and they're best enjoyed that way. I haven't tried the pizza yet, but I've seen a lot of people eating it so it must be good. This place is definitely a neighborhood sub and pizza joint, although they profess to be "Mediterranean" on Foodler and Campusfood. Not really anything to go out of the way for, but if you're in the area, definitely try it out. Like me, I predict you'll be pleasantly surprised.
