The service and atmosphere were great. The hot dogs were simply awful. No flavor or taste. Not sure what the hot dogs were made from.

I came here one day because I was having a pregnancy craving for hot dogs. I came right when they opened to beat the crowd. I walked in and I think they have a lot of regulars because the lady at the counter could tell I've never been here before. I told her I was craving hot dogs and she was so sweet and helpful and told me once I tried their hot dogs that I would definitely be back. I ordered the 2 hotdog special that comes with a 20oz bottled drink and bag of chips They were juicy and good but I couldn't taste the mustard or onions. The chili wasn't particularly flavorful either. I think it needs more of mustard chili and onions. Maybe the chili needs some seasoning. The interior was simple and could use some love like art on the walls or some simple upgrades in furniture and lighting. After eating both dogs and the chips I wasn't really full. I can't wait to go back! Not because it was such a good experience, but because I think they have a good product, and I want to give them another chance to impress me. Background: I was headed S on I-85, feeling drowsy, so I thought a snack might help me. It was about 4.15 in the afternoon. I took exit 54, Pelham Rd., and the first thing I see is Skins' Hot Dogs. Sounds good, so I pull in, go inside, and it's essentially dead. Partly because of the pandemic, partly because of a lack of imagination on the part of Skins', partly because of the aloofness of the 1 man working there. I waa the only patron in the store. There was no table service. (Pandemic) Restrooms closed. (Pandemic) Very limited menu. (Probably pandemic) I ordered 2 Hot Dogs. To go. With Mustard & Onions. While he was preparing my Dogs, I noticed they looked rather small, and asked what brand they were. Their own brand. I hope that's a good sign. Minutes later my Dogs were up. I paid and walked out the door. Got in my car and began eating the first Dog. Rather bland. I set aside the second Dog for later, and started to drive off. Crap! Feels like I have a flat tire. No worries. I park the car rather awkwardly in the lot and phone AAA. While I'm waiting for AAA, I'm still hungry. There's a Burger King next door, so I walk over, buy a burger, and walk back to my car. I eat my Whopper Jr., wait for AAA, and am on my way after getting my tire changed. When I arrived at my destination in GA, I still had the second Dog... I trashed it. Looking at the Yelp reviews for the various Skins' locations in SC, it seems that they have undisputedly bland Dogs, but make up for it with loads of toppings. Hungry for something simple and light, I stopped for a hot dog. I was expecting a delicious, plump, dark pink colored dog. How can you go wrong with a dog, right? Yes, you can and they did. That's not what was offered up (see photo that spares you the internal details). Don't bother stopping unless you want the bottom of the barrel. This dog is pretty sorry looking and tasted the same. For a place with hot dog as party of their moniker, I was/am disappointed. The selection of chips was nice but the drink selection was limited unless you wanted apple juice or chocolate milk. The remaining items were soda. There are a few locations in the area but no more Skins for me. In a hurry, I didn't review the photos before stopping in. Sometimes, it pays to slow down. read more

I drive by Skins several times a week and felt like I should give them a try. I went in at 11:15 AM and the restaurant was almost full. I noticed immediately that the workers had a good attitude and seemed to want to help. They recommended I order the "All The Way" Dog which, comes with Mustard, Chili and Onions. My Hot Dog was delivered within a couple minutes. It was hot with a small Dog and really overall a small offering. It cost $2.21 with tax. I would need three to fill me up. I will say the flavor was very good and tasted fresh. I will eat there again! That being said, expect to order three dogs for a good lunch. Additionally, they're a Pepsi restaurant which is unfortunate. I said all that to say this: Three-Stars for flavor and people with great attitudes. Minus one-star for the small size and minus one-star for Pepsi products. So go and be ready to drop $10.00 for 3-dogs, chips and a Pepsi product. read more

"All The Way" is the only way (chili, mustard and onions). Want to venture out- go all the way, add mayo. (Don't judge 'til you try). It's bottled soft drinks, chips and a slice of cake to round out the meal. Friendly service that starts with "for here or to go?". It was around 5:00 on a Saturday afternoon when I pulled into the Skins' parking lot and walking into the empty restaurant. Seemed strange but I went with it. The woman at the counter was ready to take my order before I had had a change to review the menu. Seems like most people coming into Skins' knowing exactly what they want. The cashier basically read the menu from memory which was pretty impressive. I got a hot dog with chili, slaw and mustard and it was at my table before I knew it. What was delivered to me was a hot dog with chili, a container or chili, and mustard was on the table. Hmmmmmm. I'm not above a DIY hot dog but that seemed odd. The chili was on the sweet side and the chili lacked flavor. I like the bread of the bun but wished it had been toasted. Seems like Skins' is a local favorite so I don't mean to upset folks but there are better hot dog joints out there. read more

While I was in Greenville recently, I had to stop in at Skins Hot Dogs on Pelham Road for a hot dog with the works. The menu is fairly simple here which offers hot dogs, meat chili, slaw, chips, chili cheese chips, Pepsi products, energy drinks, and various sweets (candy, moon pies, cake). They also sell Skins t-shirts, hats, aprons, and stickers. I ordered a Hot Dog "all the way" ($1.79 plus tax), which came out very quickly. This "all the way" hot dog was loaded with lots of ground chili beef and onions on a steamed bun, which is very similar to the Michigan Dog (hot dogs topped with ground beef). I am not fond of hot dogs however my husband loves the hotdogs at this restaurant. Admittedly they only serve one thing and they have many many stores and that does grab your attention. Over Christmas we decided to stop in and he would have hot dogs and I would later on have something else. Upon entering the restaurant the aroma of the chili hit me hard. We sat at the counter. I think perhaps my love of Skin's is genetic. I know my grandmother and dad grew up eating at the original store in Anderson. We talk about Skin's as the place to go for hot dogs. I always get two chili dogs (no weenie) all the way. Love the table service and how nice everyone is. When it's more than two of us we buy them by the bagful. They are small and addictive. I think you either love it or don't. My yankee husband didn't understand when he first had them. Oh well, more for me. I just wish I made it to SC more often to eat there. read more

When you only make one item, it better be good. What a bunch of NOTHING! We were ask to sit and get table service, and did, but I now realize there were so few patrons and so many workers, they needed the tip. In the south, I do expect slaw available for a hot dog. Here you have to pay extra and it's in a cup, (you add it yourself), and it's not homemade. Boiled hot dogs (not of good quality) on a steamed egg bun. Very disappointing! They do sell chips, canned soda, cake and some other such things, but the thing they specialize in was BAD. I don't think I could acquire a test for this hot dog and I love hot dogs. Not sure what ALL those people were doing in the kitchen or why they would need 3 waitresses. With what they were serving, I could just about do it by myself. NEVER again! The hot dogs are TINY! You need about 2 of their hot dogs to equal the size of one normal hot dog .. The hot dog bun is pretty good .. it taste toasted but the hot dogs are small and red .. reminds me of the little cheap red hot dogs you get in the grocery store for a dollar for a pack of 10 .. chili wasn't bad but didn't have much flavor .. Seems like it was just hamburger meat with pepper and salt .. What in the actual... People actually pay these prices for cheap boiled Oscar Meyer hot dogs. You can get better hotdogs from a few gas stations around here and cheaper as well. My husband and I arrived right after they closed but a man came to the door and asked if he could grab us some takeout. We were very impressed. We go here often and are NEVER disappointed. This place is GREAT.....Sorry to the folks that want to throw shade saying "Small" blah blah blah......Skins' started in 1946 and they have been selling the same hotdogs, made with the same chili the same way since then. Let me see, I count that as 73 years if my math is right. Obviously, this place is not for everybody, I took a couple friends there over the past 30 years who just didn't "get" a Southern Hot Dog. That's fine....again, not for Everybody. But they have several locations, so don't let the Nay Sayers deter you from trying this place if you are in the area. The only thing they did that I did not agree with is they switched from Coke to Pepsi products.....not sure how that happened considering their first locations are less than 2 hours from Atlanta.....the HOME of Coca Cola! Never heard of Skins'? Lemme introduce you to one of the best hotdogs you will ever have the pleasure of eating but that dog comes with a lot more than just a hotdog. At Skins', that southern hospitality is a big part of the success of this place since the 1940's where the Thrashers began selling dogs in Anderson South Carolina and it's not real fancy so you can come as you are ( as long as it is decent ) plus you will always be treated like a friend. I usually start with six but how many you eat will be up to you and still, I suspect you will love Skins' Hotdogs as much as we all do here in South Carolina. read more

Very unassuming place, simple menu. I got two dogs all the way which included mustard, chili and onions. On first appearance I was skeptical. Very plain even for a hot dog...Chili had no color...Then I took the first bite. Soft steamed bun, crisp onion and the "plain" chili was awesome. My only regret is not getting a bag full to go. I love hot dogs!!! I cook them at home and will stop by anything that looks like a hot dog stand. While I prefer Chicago Style, I'll settle for any dog from mustard and relish on up. I've tried Skins 3 or 4 times and have been somewhat disappointed. The atmosphere and people are great and service is quick but the hot dogs are kind of bland. The chili is almost tasteless and the rolls are steamed into limpness. $2.04 per dog is reasonable but I could do the same at home for less. read more
