SkinSpirit truly is the best skin spa in Marin. I'm not a beauty-products junkie but I wanted a skincare regime that was both preventative and corrective. I can't tell you how many times I've gone into a beauty retailer and ended up with lotions and potions that deliver lackluster results and a bad case of buyer's remorse. For makeup, these stores are great but they don't have medically trained skincare professionals to help solve real skincare issues. How do YOU spell HEAVENLY?! S-K-I-N-S-P-I-R-I-T! It's official: I'm in love with this boutique chain of luxurious pampering. I've been to two locations: Palo Alto & now Mill Valley. It's so very impressive that both locations are equally run with the identical, seamless, white-glove approach. I attribute this to the impeccable taste & standards of their director, Stacey Yates-Sellar (yes, I sleuth-ed a bit to find out who, in fact, is steering this luxury liner). The touching part is that all of her employees ADORE her! This time I had one of their all-encompassing facials, perfectly administered by the most nurturing Emily (with the voice of an angel - which only adds to the "heavenly" aspect). Through the use of various potions, instruments, tinctures & temperature devices, she expertly nipped, tucked, plucked, sucked, plumped, firmed & hydrated my 40 (cough) plus mug to perfection. The only thing that would yield a similar result requires the use of a scalpel (I'll pass, thanks). I couldn't stop fondling my face afterward. Emily guided me through my first baby peel like a mother guiding her toddler on the playground; she did not leave my side. I tend to be the overly-reactive, fear of the unknown, freaker-outer type so I cannot underscore enough how much her professional, gentle demeanor means to someone like me. I felt sorry for her that she had me because, let's face it, I'm no treat. However, she unwaveringly made me feel "normal" (she deserves a medal). I then tootled off to my first Botox experience. Poor Tori, the unsuspecting nurse...after peppering her with several annoying questions, hemming & hawing on the seesaw of "i-don't-know-if-i'm-ready-yet" indecision, she tenderly gave me my first Botox with nary a trace of evidence that I had been poked with a needle so teeny-tiny that I barely noticed. 10 days later I must report that I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!! This was my first time at SkinSpirit Mill Valley. I scheduled a consult/possible same day treatment for laser hair reduction. Juan greeted me with a kind smile and warm welcome, got me a glass of water (in an actual glass with fresh cucumber), checked me in, explained what was happening and handed me an iPad to complete my patient profile. This process was smooth, easy and I felt very comfortable and welcomed! Melissa, the nurse, promptly greeted me at my appointment time with a kind smile and warm welcome. She took me back into a clean, bright and cheerful patient room where she reviewed my history and asked addition questions to ensure I was a good candidate. Melissa explained laser hair reduction process in an easy to understand and detailed way. She answered all my questions and addressed my concerns. We were ready to go! I don't know about you but having my bikini line lasered isn't something I do regularly or am excited to get undressed for. Melissa made it easy with no judgement and put my mind at ease. The process itself wasn't painful, gets a little warm and slightly pinchy but nothing I couldn't tolerate for 20-30 minutes. Again, Melissa explained the post procedure care in detail and answered all my questions. If you are hesitant about having a procedure done for fear of embarrassment or discomfort, go see Melissa! I got a facial and microdermabrasion here and have been purchasing Latisse through them and with everything they've been exceptional. I had never had a facial much less ever wear makeup and Linda walked me through all my options to get the results I wanted. I followed Emme Burg from another salon because I am such a fan of her facials. She was very excited to begin working at SkinSpirit and raved about their treatments and product lines, so it was a no-brainer that I would follow her to Marin, despite the fact that I live in San Francisco. I was not disappointed. I received a microderm facial as well as a peel, and the results are nothing short of miraculous. My skin feels great and, though it's only been a day, I can already see a huge improvement in clarity and texture. Emme walked me through the entire process so I felt perfectly at ease (this was my first peel, though I have done microderm before). She has a way of making a fairly intense treatment feel like an indulgence. Her massage was wonderful as was the aroma-therapy lotions she used. Emme also spent over 20 minutes with me picking out the perfect combination of products for me to use at home. I am excited to try them out. The new SkinSpirit space is lovely. I got a facial gift certificate for Christmas for my teenage daughter. Her skin was all clear before the facial but after the facial, every extraction spot was literally bruised and later scarred. SkinSpirit in Mill Valley is awesome! I needed serious repair for acne issues with my skin. My skin looked drastically better after just one facial. Emme took such good care of me and made me feel so comfortable. The facial was more about fixing my issues rather than relaxing, which was what I was looking for. However, the facial could have been relaxing had I needed that. Emme customizes the facial to be whatever you need. I've had two facials now with Emme and my skin is so much better. She also recommended products for me and helped me prioritize what I really needed so I didn't have to buy all of them. The product I did buy and samples I'm trying out have helped my skin a lot between visits. I also went to see Lisa about treatment for sun spots and redness and she was totally honest and direct with me. She did not try to push any treatment even though she certainly could have insisted that something expensive would be the right treatment for me. Instead, she explained all of my options and suggested that I first just focus on making sure I'm always wearing the right type of sunscreen. She explained the difference between types of sunscreens, it was such a helpful lesson so I know how to buy sunscreen going forward. The front desk staff are so nice and accommodating. I have spent many hours in the sun and much time currently on the golf course. I am so glad that I visited Skin Spirit to see what could be done about my aging brown spots on my face and hands.. I was so lucky to see Kate Ratto who recommended the IPL treatment. It is a high intensity light on the skin which brings the brown pigment to the surface. I just got back from my three month follow up for the Ulthera treatment I had done on my lower face and upper neck . I knew I looked a lot better but when I saw the before and after pictures I was really amazed. My jowls were not noticeable, the loose skin under my chin was tight, all my skin was smoother and thicker, and even the vertical lines above my lips were gone. I did not expect these kind of results! However, I do believe I got such excellent results with the Ulthera because of Skin Spirit's excellent nurse practitioner, Kate Ratto. She originally listened well to what I was trying to achieve, was good at educating me about the procedure, was an excellent clinician, and made the whole process from start to finish very comfortable. In fact I only used Tylenol before the treatment and although the deeper tissue treatment stung a little the superficial tissue treatment with the numbing cream was so benign I fell asleep at one point! Ultherapy at Skin Spirit is especially good for a couple of reasons : they give you a lot of " lines" for the price ( more lines equals more treatment to skin and therefore better results) and they have a medical professional like Kate Ratto performing the treatment. In fact the whole staff at Skin Spirit is professional, friendly and service oriented. I will return there soon to get the rest of my face done with Ulthera and will also make use of their other services. What a wonderful facility to have in Marin! read more
