Came here with my parents, it was my dads first time here and he loved the happy hour menu. We ordered 4 items: - Drunken Chicken: they gave us both dark meat and white meat, we thought both was really yummy! The white meat was not dry and had as much flavor as the dark meat. - Pig blood & skin: I thought this was okey, I'm not a super fan of pig skin. I prefer to eat it fried than stir-fried. For those who haven't had it, when you eat it stir fry it is like eating a gummy candy. Super chewy. The pig blood was okey too, I've had better/fresher ones. Affordable, tasty, and large portions! This is an amazing place for Cantonese food that can feed the whole family. I got their special three sides one soup combo (三菜一汤), which can easily feed 3 people for under $50. We got these dishes: 1. Soup of the day - rich chicken soup that is both soothing and clear 2. Snow pea leaves (a la carte) ($9.50) - freshly stir fried, is tender yet not soggy 3. Sweet and sour pork spareribs - fried bone in spareribs with a pungent sweet and sour sauce, perfect to pair with rice (rice is included in the meal) 4. Half chicken - chicken had a ginger sauce with it, and was super soft and tender, very easy to chew 5. Salt and pepper chicken wings - my favorite of the dishes, is both spicy (hot spicy) and savory, nice portion for the cost, crispy on the outside, smooth on the inside Overall, I would recommend this restaurant if you are looking for simple and cheap Cantonese food in large portions to feed the family. We always go here if not ones or twice a month. The food is already reliable, dishes are well prepared, seasoned and definitely worth coming back to. We ordered 3 items for $37 + 0.50 cents for any item with beef. We ordered eggplant with chicken and salted fish, salt pepper pork chop, beef with string bean and HK crispy noodles with beef. The whole totaled should be around $50-52. I guess tax really gets you about $6. I mean if they update the prices will be greatly appreciate and a proper receipt so we know how much everything really is. Service is always fast, food seemed to be ready within 10-15 minutes. We came in around 8:30 pm, they were very friendly, fast and the food came out so fast even though we came in near closing time. The environment is how I remembered it to be with the cute cartoon drawings on the walls. Good Chinese food for cheap! Just like many HK cafes, the workers do not have the best services in terms of attitude and mannerism but they are super quick! All of our food and beverages came out in less than 10 minutes! Our favorite was the salt and pepper tofu. My husband and toddler were munching on those non-stop at the restaurant! Everything else was standard for Chinese food and tasted good. Skyline Cafe has deals throughout the day! We came during the evening happy hour (before 6pm) and got a full meal for around $50 after tips and taxes. Totally worth it! The customer services are slightly better in person than over the phone and most of their customers are Cantonese speaking. One of the servers was kind and even helped us pack our leftovers. The cashier lady needs to be a bit more patient though. She seems to always be in a rush even when it is not busy. Unlike traditional HK cafes with the bright white lights, this place is filled with colorful artwork like Pokémon and Mario World. Service is what you'd expect of a hk cafe, hardly anyone speaks english but I'm just there for the food. Baked Pork Chop Rice- 4/5 Really generous with the pork chop, but their sauce is a little bit on the sweeter side. This is my favorite. Curry Beef Rice- 2/5 The curry was watery and it had a lot of bell peppers. Stick with the HK style food. Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings- 4/5 These were so juicy and crispy! Three different people took orders from us but one lady was a little rude and I didn't get good vibes from her. At the end of the day, I came here for a meal to fill my stomach up. The braised tofu was pretty tasty and flavorful, it soaked up all the sauce it was cooked in but I didn't try out the seafood because I'm not too big of a fan for seafood. The soup was delicious and refreshing to start off your meal, it was one of my favorite parts of the meal. The baked spaghetti was pretty mid to be honest, I didn't expect it to be like how it is in Hong Kong but it lacks in comparison to a lot of places in the Bay Area. The sauce was clumpy and almost tasted like flour, and there wasn't enough seasoning in the sauce but the pork chop was tender and delicious! The Peking sparerib was the definite winner here. Absolutely disgusting experience and I will not be returning. While waiting for my order, I witnessed something that was completely unacceptable. A staff member was cleaning up a table from previous customers. As I watched, she picked up a bowl containing leftover rice from a previous customer and, to my complete shock, handed it to another employee behind the counter. Moments later, I saw that same rice being dumped back into the rice cooker. They were reusing leftover rice from previous customers and mixing it back in with what I assume was meant for new orders. This is beyond unsanitary. It's disturbing. It made me wonder what else they might be reusing for every customer. Once you see something like that, you can't unsee it and you certainly can't eat here in good conscience. There is no excuse for this kind of food handling. It's not just gross, it's a health risk. I've been here several times over the past years but never noticed how rude the waitress/cashier with the A-Line haircut is. We tried to flag down her down to take our order but were unsuccessful multiple times. There was once where she looked at us but looked away. Even caught her mumbling to herself, "I told them to wait." After she finished whatever she was doing, she dragged & clacked her feet over to take our order. We proceed to order the 3 dish + soup & an additional dish but she started to walk away from the table after naming 3 dishes. As she was walking away, she slammed the menus onto another table & said they ran out of soup. I'm only giving 2 stars, is because the waiter was nicer than her. And also, the food was ok. But it was pretty salty, causing me to constantly add rice into my bowl. For the price, you get what you pay for. Whoever was in charge of designing the restaurant's interior was lacking. There is just too much going on. From the art covered by huge Chinese words, a pile of wires in the corner, the camera motion detector lights & stained walls near kitchen entry. End of story, someone needs an attitude check. My mood was ruined through out the whole meal. I've seen rude behavior & poor customer service, but this is beyond. Deep fried flounder: nice and deep fried with the sauce. Unfortunately you can taste the fishiness of it and you know it's been in the tanks for a while. Gave us 2 instead of 1 big one and the red flag was spotted there. Chicken wings: Deep fried nicely and with moist meet. I did feel like it was missing the pepper portion, missing that small little kick. What more can you say about late night cheap food besides fast food chains. I've always enjoyed coming here for some cheap eats with my family. This time I came with just my mom and we decided to get the 3 dishes with the soup and unlimited rice deal for $33.99 (basically $40 ish with tax and tip). We ordered: - #67 tofu with salted fish and chicken - # 47 sautéed beef tripe - # 49 Peking Spareribs It came with a large container of steaming white rice and a chicken feet, carrot, and bean soup. The chicken feet soup was pretty standard, I did wish it was a bit more hot, it was just warm. The soup had about 5 chicken feet inside with small cubed carrots and beans. It was fairly decent size, about 5 bowls of soup for my mother and I. The tofu with salted fish and chicken (#67) came in a hearty clay pot. It was boiling hot and you can tell there was plenty of everything in that pot. A ton of salted fish bites that made the bowl indeed salty. Good thing there was so much rice to balance out the salty fish. I had not had salty fish in so long so this definitely brought back memories of eating at home and having the steamed salty fish on the side. The sautéed beef tripe (#47), marinated in a soy sauce base, was full of onion, green onion, ginger and tripe. The onion was perfectly cooked so it like a sweet onion but not too cook that it had no bite to it if that makes sense. Lastly, the Peking Spareribs (#49), YUMM. A fan favorite, and great balance of sweet and sour but more sweet than sour. They gave us at least 15 pieces of meats ranging with or without bones. Some may say that this is considered more "fake" Chinese food, but honestly it's so good I don't even care. Overall, if you are looking for cheap and quick eats with a variety of options, come check this place out. If you are looking for more individual meals like rice plates and spaghetti plates, they have those options too (it comes with a side soup) and ranges from $9.50 to $14.25. The looks of this place can be deceiving in terms of interior design (it looks a little run down) but it gets the job done. I had grown up going to D&A Cafe on Clement, but now live closer to Skyline Cafe and they have the same menu. Sure, the prices have come up quite a bit over the years, but the food is still good! I almost always go for their alphanumeric combo deals that comes with a protein, rice or spaghetti, and corn. If you dine in, you also get soup! I generally go for the black pepper beef (short ribs!), garlic sauce pork chop, or the fish fillet. Lots of good options and nice sized portions. I do wish they'd accept credit cards since prices are getting higher and I don't like to carry much cash around with me. Go ahead and opt for a watermelon juice when in season or some good ol HK milk tea!
