The Skyway vs Swenson's battle continues. I live out of state now and haven't been back to the buckeye state in over 10 years. Swensons and Skyway have always been a standard go to choice in NE Ohio for a great burger! I was in town this August and went to the Fairlawn locations. So the first thing I can tell you is Skyway changed their bun. It's not the same, and it makes a huge difference in my opinion. The bun is bigger, has sesame seeds on it and taste bland. It was like I got a mouthful of bread. The meat tasted good, about the same as I remember, but paired with that bun it was just off. Swensons was great! has that same tasty bun and delicious beef, cheese and sweet onion flavor that remain outstanding! Swensons is the winner by far! Now if you like big, thick juicy $10.00 burgers, you need to go to Whitey's in Bath. I used to live in Bath, and this place was, and remains a top favorite in all of the USA. Whitey's used to be like a big house converted to a restaurant. Now it's a big place with sand volleyball courts and outdoor dining. Oh, the power of a good burger and great service! read more

Really surprised at how good it was. Stopped in on a Wednesday just before 4p and timed it before any crowd at all. Staff was friendly and responsive and food was quickly served to my car. Ordered a simple cheeseburger, fries and root beer. It all was great. Nice fresh bun but not just any white bread bun either, it was great texture and flavor. Burger patty was good too. But the fries were the best. Must've gotten them at the perfect timing out of the fryer. Golden crunchy exterior and super fluffy inside with a good potato flavor. Pic doesn't do it justice. I'm not a local to Akron and I know Swenson's is prevalent, but I tried Swenson's twice while in town and was disappointed each time. Skyway is the place I will try again. read more

Order a chili. When they brought me the chili the container was a little past the half way full. They only one size chili. I asked them if they would put some more chili in it. They said no that's the amount you got. For 3.99 that's not enough maybe a child's portion. If you want more you need to pay another 3.99. (7.98 for a serving of chili.) My family and I were car-shopping nearby when I opened my Yelp app and saw a Yelp ad for Skyway. My Mom and I were sooo happy -- we used to go to the one in Stow when it was open. We're not familiar at all with Akron, so we were happy campers to see this old-fashioned goodness was just 1/2 a mile away. Skyway has been around since the 1950's, and truly, the old school roots are what makes it so much fun. You pull up (lights for service!) and place your order with the guy or gal who runs out to your car. The menu is full of good ol' favorites. Burgers, fries, floats and malts, you name it. The intergenerational crowds of cars around you really speak to this. In the words of my Mom, "it's so hard to find a good malt anymore" -- and Skyway has that authentic, fizzy, rich flavor that is super crave-worthy. No one understands the art of the malt anymore. NO ONE. Shoutout to Skyway for keeping it alive. The menu is inexpensive, so just go ahead and treat yourself to whatever you want. Sauerkraut balls, fries, potato teesers, zucchini sticks... why not! Look, if you've made it this far, you're clearly not worried about calories. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers. This is 'thee' burger experience to have. If you incarnate on earth and you want the burger, fried appetizer and cola experience this is the place to get it. I've had five guys, in and out, swensons, all good of course but Skyway has my favorite fast food burgers around, and they are even better than the dine in and sit down restaurants I've had over my lifetime. The onion rings, my favorite ever. Get a side of sky hi sauce to dip them in. In my photos you will see I got the sky hi burger with extra pickles and the half pound burger with extra pickles. Some of my bites even had a full pickle slice in them, this was a delicious meal! Ryan was my server and he was super friendly! I got a chocolate and peanut butter malt to go! So disappointed. I grew up in Akron and am a loyal Skyway customer every time I go back for a visit but that may no longer be the case. This visit the service was awful. I called in my order and I was warned by my family in Akron to check the bag that they often don't fill the entire order. I should have more carefully headed this advice. When I brought the order home we were missing a sandwich. I called ahead to tell the mistake and went back to pick up but still I had to wait another 10 minutes once there. They apologized and gave me a buy one get one free coupon that they had clipped from the newspaper. When I finally got back home my family had finished their meal and I found out that the double cheeseburger I had brought home for my husband had really only been a single. I know mistakes happen but this was experience makes me question if I should just have gone to Swensons. read more

Everything on their menu is delicious and worth a try from their famous Skyhi (2 burgers w/ a bun in the middle and special sauce), Aunt Ruth's Famous Onion Rings (cut everyday and hand breaded), all the way down to their delicious milkshakes. I live near this Skyway and was hoping it was better than Swenson's. Not even close. I can only speak for this one in Green - and hold out hope that maybe the Skyway in Fairlawn or Medina can offer more. This particular location features food that sets a new standard in mundane. I hate to break their secret and share their recipes with you, but here is how you make food identical to the Skyway in Green: Buy a combo meal at Burger King and let it sit in your fridge for a week. It's been awhile since I stopped at skyway. But I was in the mood for a burger and didn't want fast food and didn't want to go far from home. So I stopped at the Skyway in Green on Friday night, the problem is they don't have a light for there driveway when you're pulling in, so it's hard to see at night, it almost looks like they are closed, except for the flashing open sign on the building. I called ahead so I just had to pick up my order, since it's a little cold this time of year. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I had ordered the mushroom burger, and my Dad had gotten the ultimate burger, both were huge and literally heavy!!! The ultimate burger had 3 thick patties if you compare it to swensons' they were twice as thick! My Dad always finishes everything... he couldn't finish this burger! And no way could I finish mine. It was twice the size of the double cheeseburger I normally get at swensons. And the sides were delicious!!! Got the fried mushrooms, onion rings and fries. I liked their fried mushrooms better than swensons... of course Akron area is blessed to have both. But with prices at swensons increasing, and the size of the food decreasing it's nice to know Skyway is here... definitely will be going back!! Soon... read more

That waiter, Tim the OG Arfonz, is the greatest server ever. The way he puts that pep in his step whenever someone pulls in makes me feel all giddy inside. There is no greater pleasure than seeing someone so happy to be at their job! Some people may want to do something along the lines of breaking a world land speed record with an Allison V-1710 aircraft engine, but I am more impressed with the spunk and vigor this server portrays while working. All other servers at any other store are incomparable to what this legendary man does every day. Not only is he a great server, but his future is bright. I would like only to ask one last thing... The Sky Hi burger is amazing. Way better than Swenson's. If you're like me and don't like your food disgustingly sweet then Skyway is for you. I find the galley boy at Swenson's too sweet (I guess if you make your food taste like a sugar bomb you'll please the general public) but the Sky Hi at Skyway is delicious. The people who say that it has thousand island dressing on it must be mistaking it for a something else. The sauce more closely resembles tzatziki sauce that you'd find on a gyro with a little more pickle action going on.
